@Folkloner It's the constant passing around of the same news. I tend to use Nintendonews - essentially an RSS type thing - and the amount of exactly the same articles passed around every Nintendo or gaming themed website is laughable.

@ParasolStars My thoughts exactly. When wading through the ‘See? Just like the WiiU’ comments I consider that so far it’s scalpers, new toy fans, and die hard fans.

I like Nintendo, I think they’ve got a bit up their own backside and stale with some games but on the whole I enjoy them. I was playing Pikmin over the last few days, rather than another console.

I want to see them do well. I want to see them constantly improve. I think they’re making a misstep here when casuals are faced with the bill for the console, and then the cost of games. I hope I’m proved wrong enough for price drops but not failure.

If of course this does all pay off then I think this is a good release strategy. Get it out now so the die hards can get their fill, then allow time for stock to build and word-of-mouth and other marketing to make Christmas a seamless experience for those that want one.

@HammerKirby But the argument isn't about launch units is it? It's about consitent buy in and growth. Is it going to fall off a cliff after the initial run? Is there going to month after month, Christmas after Christmas buy-in? That's the WiiU comparison talk, not launch day sales.

Honestly, I'm as tired of reading this sort of comment as I am those supporting companies with this 'games are well cheap because of inflation' rubbish.

Either have a coherent thought, or keep it to yourself.

I’ve been replaying through the Mario games recently and I’m struck with a real sense of not enjoying them. However. I would be interested in an expanded version of Bowsers Rage or whatever that Mario 3D World add-on was called. I’m a bit over open worlds, but I’d like to try it on a Mario (non-Kart) game.

But these games wind me up at times something rotten. Even worse when you watch speed runners whose Pikmin behave themselves.

Fun commercial though, certainly much less irritating than the usual smiling family you get pretending their having the best time of their lives.

Edit to add: while I’m not interested in buying a switch 2, I’m getting bored of the slathering fever that accompanies every launch of everything these days. It’s always a sold out mess. What if you need one of these cards for a gaming adjacent hobby? For work? Oh no you can’t get one / prices have gone up because something new got released and people, plus scalpers, can’t help themselves.

In case I missed it, is there no way to skip the drive to the next track? I really don’t want to have to bother with that all the time, even more so when the novelty wears off (see: Forza Horizon).

The key thing though, and keeping in mind I’m nearing 40 and been playing this series since the snes. They. Just. Aren’t. Grabbing. Me. But then, perhaps I’m out of that demographic they want to capture anyway.

@Eel Ah that’s interesting to know; they got me hook, line, and sinker. Bought it fully believing it was a prequel. I enjoyed the game don’t get me wrong, but I just don’t enjoy ‘what if’ stories.

On the one hand I’m glad we’re moving away from ‘console wars’ and more towards games-across-systems.

On the other, I could do without so much Camp Councillor Phil bringing out the feelgoods all the time.

Like the rest of every other industry the only way this nonsense resolves itself is the end of big companies and an increase in small indie teams / shops / companies.

I could be wrong, but didn’t they say that AoC was canon when they were marketing it? It absolutely was not.

This should be a free pack in game, and Nintendo apologists should get their head checked.

I think the design looks horrendous. But then, I'm not wanting to discourage Nintendo from potentially hiring me in the future.

@Switch_Pro Politicians are not wholly responsible. I'll direct my ire where I wish. Companies, politicians, and for the short-sighted, patience-less people who buy whatever slop is put in front of them for any price.

@The_Blue_Mage Also, it's a racing game. I hope if I do pick it up they put in a traditional GP mode were I can just play the races. I don't want to drive to my next race. Feels like padding to me.

@BaldB3lper78 Echo chamber. Too many throwing around 'we understand inflation', 'we're happy to pay'. If people don't buy and can keep a grip of themselves, Nintendo and the wider industry will course correct.

Also, isn't this typical of Nintendo? Doesn't ever successful generation get followed by hubris?

Same for the others really: PS3 was initially met with derision, as was the Xbox One.

@Switch_Pro Why? Companies expect US to take home less money. I'm not accepting giant pay rises for shareholders masquerading as inflation. It's greed, pure and simple.

Perhaps the industry needs a correction. Less expensive slop and more games that are mass bought making the ROI. Paying more because they haven't appealed to a bigger market isn't my problem to solve.

@-wc- Yeah I hate this constant focus on being online. Though I was speaking to a friend and I don't think I'll be bothering with Mario Kart this time anyway. My friends have moved away from gaming, I don't want to play online, and I don't want to play it by myself.

Any before fanboys descend on me, yep, I'm almost 40. I've seen and played it all (most) already so companies have an uphill battle with me to convince me to part with my cash. I haven't binned old consoles. I don't need to buy anything new I've got plenty to play.

And that's the point, yeah you've got young people so invested in Nintendo that they don't mind paying the money (that might change as they get older and see companies for what they are). But they need to think about us and how much harder it is for us to part with our money. There's a thin layer of 'sleaze feeling' over their current offering that's putting me right off.

Which is ok. I don't need to buy, and I won't. I have the patience to vote with my wallet.

And I realise it’s not just you. Inflation or otherwise there is a perceived value attached to numbers. Games are not worth the prices they’re asking regardless of inflation.

I hope the Switch 2 marketing is to stop clicking their fingers at me.

@Spider-Kev Definitive Edition is the one I’ve got.

It’s on my list of potential buys if I can a) learn how the battle system works in X1 (whichever one came out on switch that’s not 2 or 3) and b) clear my backlog. Time isn’t what it used to be.

@8bit4Life Yeah I had the same madness, and I refuse to do it again. I'm happy to go on a 'can wait' list, so all those eager kids, teenagers who are desperate for one for birthdays can get one first.

I'd like an FF7 remake style ... remake. Ideally with less copy & paste side content in.

I adore this game, and I can see me wandering aimlessly in it for hours if it was a full remake. More so than I've done with Rebirth.

I don't understand why they don't do away with 'pre orders' as they currently are, and convert them to 'wait lists'. I'm not really in the market for a Switch 2, but if I was I'd be happy to pay a small deposit and have it fulfilled when it's ready.

Much better than this checking around, stock trackers, website crashing, scalper paradise that we are currently experiencing.

Or keep both, that way the Cannot-Wait's can try and find one that gets delivered next day, and the It-comes-when-it-comes crowd don't have to think about it.
