Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (30th November)

After introducing Ganondorf to the business end of the Master Sword last weekend, I'm planning to crack on with "completing" Tears of the Kingdom now that I can see my percentage completion. Currently sitting at just over 55%. Got all shrines, all side adventures and all but one of the side quests (finding wells - yay!). Like Breath of the Wild, I doubt I'll ever get to 100% in game as finding all the Koroks doesn't appeal to me, but we'll see how we get on.

Otherwise, got back into FF7 Remake. Managed to get Rebirth for £35 in Black Friday sales, so hoping to work through those back to back.

Re: Video: Footage Of LEGO's "Unreleased" James Bond Video Game Surfaces Online

They made a Lego James Bond Aston Martin. Looking at the properties they did adapt, I think they could have found a way. Indiana Jones has lots of gunfights and killing, and they managed that. In terms of the bed-hopping shenanigans (as they did with Tony Stark in the Lego Avengers game), just leave that out and focus on gadgets, gunfights, chases and puzzles. Seems like a perfect fit to me.

Re: Sony May Be Plotting A New PSP To Compete With Nintendo's 'Switch 2'

JohnnyC

It'll be super powerful and have little/no first party support.

See PS Move, PSVR2 and PS Vita for examples of this approach (and, based on recent years, the PS5 too). I own/owned all of those aside from the PSVR2 and there's no way I'm splashing out upwards of £300 on new hardware (which is what this new thing will cost) until it's got at least 3 or 4 games that I really want to play.

Arkham City. Beat the story on the Arkham games ages ago on the original versions, and again a couple of years ago on the remastered versions of the first two. Recently got 100% on Asylum, so trying to do the same on City. The challenges appeal to the longtime fighting game fan in me. Great games, always enjoy revisiting them, that have proven to be timeless. For all the talk of the PS5 pro's bells and whistles, these still look amazing too in my opinion.

Re: Gallery: Unboxing A Nintendo 64DD Development Kit

JohnnyC

I remember back in the 90s, hearing rumours about this disc drive that was definitely coming soon for the N64 from the other kids at school and seeing a couple of pictures of it in magazines. When I started hearing about Project Dolphin, I realised that sadly I'd never see this in person. I do hope that the DD games come to NSO or something one day. Can't see any reason not to do that, and they shouldn't be a stretch for the Switch.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Tetris Forever

JohnnyC

Always been curious to try Tetris 2. I hope that makes it to one of the NSO apps. I get why Nintendo wouldn't allow their versions on this collection due to it being multi format, but I was hoping to see some exclusive content for the Switch version like with Starlink or Soul Calibur II and have that as a workaround for getting at least GB Tetris in the collection. As good as this collection is, not including the GB version (not by choice) is like talking about the history of Man Utd without talking about Alex Ferguson.

Re: Fear Not, Sonic Team Plans To Support Last-Gen Consoles For A While

JohnnyC

A top-tier PS4 game still looks great, so this isn't a shock as while I haven't played a Sonic game in a while, none of the footage I've seen suggests they're as demanding on the hardware as the likes of Uncharted 4, The Last of Us Part II, Gran Turismo 7 etc. Developers can't afford to make games that push PS5 hardware to its full capabilities unless they're confident it will be a hit. To be honest I've not played many games on the PS5 yet that don't feel like they could run on a PS4. Granted, I have a PS4 Pro so maybe that's why the lines are a bit more blurred.

After a long break (according to my save file, the last time I played was January) I'm back on Tears of the Kingdom. After beating all the shrines and a good number of the side quests/adventures last year, I got distracted with a few other games in my backlog in the intervening months, all of which I've thoroughly enjoyed, but decided that now is the time to introduce Ganondorf to the pointy end of a sacred blade.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (21st September)

JohnnyC

Finally finished the main Pikmin 3 Deluxe campaign, with all fruit recently. Not a difficult game, just kept getting distracted with other things. Working on some of the side missions, and once done I may finally treat myself to Pikmin 4, having completed Pikmin 1 + 2 earlier in the year. Otherwise, challenge rooms on Arkham Asylum and mopping up the Skywalker Saga, which currently sits at 96% complete.

Re: Poll: Are You Ready To Move On From The Switch?

JohnnyC

If it launches with a new 3D Mario, Mario Kart 9 or a new 3D Zelda, day-1. Otherwise, carrying on with the backlog. I only bought one console in my life for the sake of the console and for the first 6 months of owning it, I regretted it (PS2, had nothing worth playing in 2000, the good stuff came from 2001 onwards, mainly used it as a dvd player at the beginning).

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Urban Champion

JohnnyC

European version would have caught my eye as a kid when NES games were on shop shelves. The pixel artwork put me off buying Super Mario Bros 1 and instead focusing on Mario Bros 2 and 3.

At the time it wasn't retro, it just looked cheap. No, I don't think like that any more, just saying how I saw it at the time. The power of good marketing on a primary-school-age child!

Re: Video: Sakurai Explains The Need For Online Updates And Patches

JohnnyC

Fine with patches in big games. They do their best, but with bigger and more complex games it's just not possible to anticipate and test every scenario prior to release.

What I don't like (and thankfully, what we don't see with Nintendo) is using patches as a crutch for rushing out a half-a***d effort. Cyberpunk and the GTA Trilogy are two of the most recent and infamous examples, but there are many others.

Re: Random: Zelda Fan Jailed For Carrying Small Master Sword Replica

JohnnyC

@quinnyboy58 Probably intended to be a knife crime deterrent, assuming it was metal with a sharp point and not a plastic toy, but I can't see imprisonment for possessing a plastic sword happening so I suspect the former.

Personally I'm not bothered if it's themed like Zelda or any other franchise, if someone you don't know is out in public carrying a 6-inch blade for all to see, it's reasonable and sensible these days to assume the worst. This guy just lacked basic common sense.

Re: Poll: What's Your Switch Game Of The Year Of 2024 So Far?

JohnnyC

I haven't bought a Switch game this year, or a game on any format. The last new games I got were at Christmas, when I got Hogwarts Legacy (PS5), Jedi Survivor, Spidey 2 and Mario Wonder. This year was initially about beating those and then ended up being largely a year for blasting the backlog, which I've very much enjoyed.

Got a holiday coming up, so planning to get either Pikmin 4 or Luigi's Mansion 2 as a treat. Next new Switch games on my radar are Zelda: Echoes and the new Mario Party.
