Re: Gollum Publisher Daedalic Entertainment Shuts Down Internal Development

JohnnyC

@ozwally I read somewhere that they're still committed to a patch to eliminate the bugs, but the consensus from critics is that even if all the bugs were gone it's still rubbish. Even if this had been well-made, literally nobody was crying out for a game based on playing Gollum. I'll stick with Lego Lord of the Rings/Hobbit and the two Middle Earth: Shadow titles.

Re: Hip-Thrusting Is Just One Of The Weird Minigames In Everybody 1-2-Switch!

Same as the first one, it should be free to NSO subscribers as a tech demo. This isn't a £30-£40 game, and the first one only sold because aside from BOTW it was the only exclusive at launch. I'd pay £5 max for either of these out of curiosity, as there are routinely much better games available on all 3 current consoles for that price in sales.

Re: Sonic Fans Are Already Really Mad About Sonic Origins Plus

JohnnyC

Got the Mega Drive Collection on PS3 which at this point I play maybe once evey couple of years (the game; still boot up the PS3 more than that thanks to the old backlog).

When the PS3 finally dies, I may look at getting a new version of the Sonic titles but experience has taught me that there's almost always something I'd rather be spending my increasingly limited gaming time on.

Re: Poll: Will There Be A June 2023 Nintendo Direct?

JohnnyC

I agree, no Direct for June. Leaving aside a possible one-off for Pikmin 4, I expect the next Direct to be about dlc (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 3 and probably Tears of the Kingdom - maybe also a surprise for the New Horizons fans?), and maybe some quick wins to fill out what's expected to be the Switch's final year, like the long-rumoured Twilight Princess and Wind Waker, and maybe also F-Zero GX. Any big titles that Nintendo's working on now are likely going to be cross-gen titles rather than Switch exclusives. I can't see us getting to Christmas 2024 without new hardware from Nintendo.

Re: Mario Kart Tour Lawsuit Calls Out "Immoral" Lootbox Gacha System

JohnnyC

@nocdaes Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Governments are constantly told not to be a nanny state and that parents know what's best for their children, and at the same time there's crying out for more controls. My kids aren't into Roblox but I let them start playing Fortnite a year or so ago. They have their own child accounts so the only way to add money is either if I give them money from my PSN account, or if they redeem those gift cards. Appreciate what you say that some people may not be aware of these controls, but that goes back to my original point that responsible parents should know what their children are doing. For better or worse, parents are the biggest influence on children's lives.

Speaking as a parent, some people really need to stop letting TV and computer games serve as un-vetted babysitters for their kids and then blame companies when they later realise what their kids have been seeing or interacting with. Do some research, find out what they're watching, playing with or listening to, and restrict/allow as you feel appropriate. Oh yeah, and maybe don't give them access to your bank account.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's GBA Library With Three Super Mario Games

JohnnyC

Good versions of great games, but my feeling here is the same as it was in the early 2000s - not really bothered playing these games for the umpteenth time and would prefer if Nintendo released something a bit more unique instead. GBA has plenty of more interesting titles in its library than this. Hopefully there's a shadow drop on one of the other platforms this month in addition to what's announced, as we've seen a few times recently.

Re: Sega Looks Set To Raise Its Game Prices Up To $70

JohnnyC

Can't think of any of their console games that I'd pay £50 for, let alone £70. Due to the realities of gaming on a budget, unless it's something like Tears of the Kingdom or a multiplayer title I'm into (I'll be getting Street Fighter 6 shortly after launch) I usually wait for a discount for most games. Usually happens within 12 months, and frankly I haven't got the time to play everything I want to play at launch anyway.

Re: Expect More Open-World Zelda Games Going Forwards, Suggests Eiji Aonuma

JohnnyC

@Eggolor What I mean is same feel, but modern tech. I didn't mean in the sense of splitting a game over 3 games across 10 years. Agreed, that would be a rubbish way to play it. Ocarina first and then Majora's Mask would be fine though. I acknowledge it will likely never happen as Nintendo generally seem to favour remasters rather than rebuilding from the ground up.
