Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase July 2025: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer

IceClimbers

Very underwhelming Direct.

The big thing with Switch 2 was that we'd get to see heavier hitting 3rd party titles... and this had largely the same stuff that we saw on Switch 1.

They knocked out the 2 most obvious ports (Sparking Zero, P3R) and then had Kiwami 2 and Cronos, but nothing super major past that as far as ports go. Weak showing for your 2 month old console port wise.

Also, what was the point of showing Age of Imprisonment just to show another teaser with no release date??

Re: Third-Party Launch Games On Switch 2 Reportedly Sold "Very Low Numbers"

IceClimbers

Not surprised. You're buying a $450-$500 system not including tax, and then any accessories to go with it. In today's economy that's a lot to ask, most won't have much money left over for games, and if they do they're gonna buy Mario Kart, not full priced ports of titles they've played elsewhere for cheaper.

Also, the key card thing isn't that big of a factor, and won't be long term. Most general consumers aren't aware of what a game key card is nor do they care. It will have played a role in the weak launch sales though, as people who pick up a system at launch aren't the general consumer; they're the more dedicated enthusiast who are well informed.

Re: Nintendo Updates Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility List

IceClimbers

Glad to see the progress they're making! Appreciate Nintendo's transparency and proactiveness regarding the BC issues.

Hopefully Nier Automata gets patched soon. Also surprised to see that Pizza Tower is getting patched soon, as I assumed that one would take a while due to the studio most likely not having a dev kit yet

Re: Nintendo Expects To Sell 15 Million Switch 2 Consoles This Financial Year

IceClimbers

Switch should surpass DS and thus become Nintendo's best selling system ever sometime this summer, probably in July/August so we'll hear about it in October. As for beating PS2's record, based on their estimate I'd say Switch is going to absolutely crawl to that record. We'll see if it can get there.

As for Switch 2, it should have no problem meeting that estimate so long as the price of the system remains as is. If tariffs cause a price increase in the US, then it will probably fall short.

Re: Opinion: A Few Too Many Questions & Unwelcome Surprises Are Taking The Shine Off The Switch 2 Reveal

IceClimbers

I think if they priced Mario Kart at $70, the vast majority of the backlash would be non existent.

That being said, all of the "Nintendo has lost the magic, they only care about greed and shareholders!" is a bunch of sensationalist BS. Newsflash: they were always about the money, even during Iwata's tenure. They were always greedy, just like any other corporation out there. There is no such thing as a "pro consumer" move - if it's done in the name of making more profit, then it's not pro consumer, it's just optics.

Re: Community: Which Switch 2 Games Are You Wishlisting?

IceClimbers

I'm interested in Mario Kart World (via the bundle), DK Bananza, and Metroid Prime 4 primarily. Those games are absolute musts. Will also grab Yakuza 0 and the upgrades for Kirby and Mario Party. Oh and I plan to finally upgrade to the Expansion Pack, so that's GameCube games as well as GBA/N64/Genesis.

Whether I get Switch 2 at launch is dependent on what happens to the price in the US. I can do the announced price, but too much more and I'll have to wait.

Re: 'Nintendo Today', A New Mobile App, Will Deliver Fresh Switch 2 News Every Day

IceClimbers

This app makes a lot of sense. They created the Nintendo Direct originally as a way to share news directly to the consumer because traditional media sites kept muddy-ing up their messaging during the late Wii/DS era and the 3DS's launch. But they still made announcements themselves on social media platforms (primarily Twitter).

In the time since then, social media in general has become a clusterf*ck in the age of the "algorithm", with fake news, engagement bait, click bait, and rumor mongering run rampant. Twitter has become especially toxic.

This app allows them to skip all of that, not rely on social media and give those announcements directly in their own feed on their own platform. It also doubles as a sort of spiritual successor to the Smash Dojo. Oh, and you get all news in one place rather than having to follow multiple accounts for things like tournaments or mobile game events.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Direct Predictions - What Do You Want To See?

IceClimbers

@Grumblevolcano You really can't get past the idea that they'd announce a set of games for Switch 1 and then announce a separate set of games for Switch 2, can you?

Switch 1 games will be released alongside Switch 2 games, just as 3DS games launched alongside Switch games. And no, Switch 2 being backwards compatible doesn't change that.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch 2 To Launch In June With 3-Phase Software Plan

IceClimbers

To everybody commenting "no 3rd party games at launch".... where did you read that?

The article quite clearly says that the launch will be focused primarily on 1st party titles, not exclusively. There will of course be 3rd party titles from major publishers like Square Enix and Microsoft on day 1, but Nintendo's 1st party titles will naturally be the main focus.

As for the dev kits, the article does a poor job explaining that bit. It most likely means that dev kits will become widely available in June and not just to the major AAA publishers who have had them for ages.
