Re: Nintendo Download: 19th April (North America)

@SilverEdge92 NoA is really bad about updating the coming soon section on the US eShop. Or at least with the stuff people actually care about. South Park and Naruto not being listed on the coming soon section despite both of them launching next week is ridiculous.

Re: Feature: The Biggest Retail Games Hitting Nintendo Switch This Spring

IceClimbers

Ya missed Ys VIII again.

Not only that, but you somehow left out BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, Sushi Striker, and Lego Incredibles, which are three completely new titles - not ports, completely new games, and they all launch in the first half of June.

Also, if you're gonna include Wolfenstein like that then you should include SNK Heroines too, which is also a completely new game.

That's FOUR completely new titles that got left off this list that should be on this list.

Re: Video: We Feel these Top Ten Characters Deserve to Be in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch

IceClimbers

@impurekind Splatoon 2 has new weapons, new subweapons, new specials, new gear, a new hub, new maps, a new ranked mode, a new mode, a new campaign, improved graphics, etc.

You know, just like every other sequel. How exactly is that not a new game?

The trailer was a teaser trailer. Surely a port would've gone straight into gameplay since we've already seen it before. Nothing about that trailer suggests a port.

Oh boy, the dev time argument. Smash 4 entered full development in 2012 and released in 2014, giving it a dev time of about 2 years. That was on two platforms, by the way.

We know Sakurai started on his next project shortly after Smash 4 DLC wrapped up in early 2016, which would make Smash Switch's dev time.... about 2 years. Plenty of time for a new game, especially since there's already HD assets ready to use.

Smash Switch is a new game. Period. And no, reusing assets does not make it a port.

Re: Video: Will Super Smash Bros. Switch Be a Port or a Brand New Game?

IceClimbers

It's a new game. It's listed as a working title on the Switch news section and they'd have said up front if it was a port like they did with literally all of their other ports.

The only reason @SLIGEACH_EIRE is so insistent on it being a port is so that he can complain about more ports.

Tell me, is Fire Emblem a port? Is Planet Robobot the same game as Triple Deluxe because it reuses assets?

Re: Review: Kirby Star Allies (Switch)

IceClimbers

Kirby games have always been pretty easy, so no surprise there. That being said, it seems like if you're playing alone the AI controlled allies basically play the game for you. This would be best played with others.

Games being 30 fps doesn't usually doesn't bother me that much, but on the demo it was incredibly jarring.

Pass for me. Shame considering how great Robobot is.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Confirms He's Working On Super Smash Bros. Switch

IceClimbers

@SLIGEACH_EIRE That "original game" is referring to Smash 64.

The article in the Switch's news section specifically refers to it as "Super Smash Bros. (working title)".

It's pretty clearly a new game. It will probably reuse quite a few assets from Smash 4, but it's a new game nonetheless.

They'd have said if it was a port.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 8th March

IceClimbers

I thought it was a solid Direct even without the Smash Bros mic drop announcement.

Crash and South Park were the two ports I was hoping for, so I was really happy about that. Little Nightmares and Okami HD were nice surprises. Undertale coming is great news, with the doorway finally open to more Game Maker games.

Mario Tennis actually looks really solid - from what they've shown it looks like the most effort that's been put in a Mario sports game in over a decade.

Captain Toad was a nice announcement. Think it's clear all the major Wii U titles will make their way over at some point. Sushi Striker coming to Switch was leaked beforehand, but I'm glad it's coming. Also just yes at the Solaire amiibo. Just yes.

The 3DS stuff was surprising. Wish Luigi's Mansion was on Switch. I didn't see the Bowser's Inside Story remake coming, and the fact that the 3DS is getting something in 2019 is quite mind boggling (I'm not complaining though).

The Splatoon 2 content update is great, looking forward to that. The Octo Expansion was a really hype announcement, and that trailer (and that music!) was awesome.

The biggest announcement, of course, was Smash. I'm beyond hyped. Inkling was the obvious inclusion. 100% positive that it will be a new Smash game, though it'll probably reuse assets from Smash 4.

Overall a solid 9/10 Direct for me!

Re: Super Smash Bros. For Switch Is Coming This Year, And It's Got Inklings

IceClimbers

@thesilverbrick I don't think it'd be more ambitious. If Smash 4 took two years to develop (not counting DLC) while developing for two platforms and trying to get things to match as much as possible as far the core gameplay/balancing goes while making a lot of things from scratch, then a Smash 5 on only one platform that can reuse assets from Smash 4 (including a modified engine) shouldn't be quite as demanding (not to say that it isn't demanding, just that the work done on Smash 4 and only having one platform to develop for should speed up the process)

They wouldn't have to rebuild veteran characters from scratch again unless they're updating their designs or changing their movesets (Link, possibly Mario).
