Re: Work For Volkswagen? Better Delete Pokémon GO From Your Phone

Gamecubed

My older sister is a financial advisor with one of the major banks here in Canada. They have a private staff forum type thing where they can talk about their work experiences, share work stories and give work advice. She told me that 95% of the topics on the staff forum are about Pokemon Go.

I imagine they've had a few situations now (some people are unbelievably careless while playing Pokemon Go) and decided the easiest way to deal with it is to make the staff not have the app at all.

Re: Poll: How Excited Are You About Pokémon Sun and Moon?

Gamecubed

Sun version probably with Litten as my starter, I'll have to see all of evolutions to make my final choice.

Would like to see what these games have to offer in terms of post-game content though. The more recent games have been incredibly skinny when it comes to post-game.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime on Why the Wii U Was Misunderstood

Gamecubed

I honestly don't know if even Nintendo knew what their concept was for the Wii U. After watching the DYK Gaming episode on the Wii U, it seems like no one knew exactly what they were doing or where they were going with it.

I've enjoyed my Wii U, I have almost 30 games for the system, but it just feels like there is wasted potential there.

Re: Darksiders is Coming to Wii U

Gamecubed

If the price is right, I'll probably get it and then add it to the backlog. I like supporting the releases we get on Wii U as much as possible and I'm glad Nordic is stepping up to the plate. I really don't imagine it selling incredibly well on any of the systems, especially the Wii U.

Played the second one on PS3 and enjoyed it, though I didn't finish it for whatever reason.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's NES Classic Edition is Just One Way to Revolutionise the Virtual Console

Gamecubed

I'm getting three of these things. One for myself, one for my dad and one for my sister. The price is fair enough. I feel like this is something we've been asking for silently for a while. I've always wanted a Nintendo version of "Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection" that came out on PS3/360, but this will do just fine.

I think if this does well (and I think it will do EXTREMELY well based on the reactions I've seen today), Nintendo may do a SNES version and maybe even an N64 version in the future. I would buy those too.

Re: Review: The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 (Wii U)

Gamecubed

I got this and haven't played it yet. I love the old point-and-click games, and I'm a little disappointed the gamepad isn't utilized like I'd imagined. But I am happy Nordic is taking some initiative to bring games to the Wii U (Legend of Kay, Books of Unwritten Tales and they've recently confirmed that they're working on another game for the system right now).

Honestly, these types of point-and-click games, RTS/TBS games and world building type games seem like the logical fit for the Wii U gamepad and for some reason nobody is doing them. I mean, genres that have previously been pretty much exclusive to the PC or just better on the PC could have translated well to a console for once.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Thinks You Should Give Star Fox Zero Another Try

Gamecubed

I takes the entire duration of the game to adapt to the controls. By the time you have it figured out and are having fun, the game is over. You can go back and replay the levels (which I did a few times), but not everybody wants to do that. Bill's comment rings true to this. Games are becoming a consumable thing and many people will just play it through once and move on to the next one. You can't do anything about that though.

The fight with Pigma in Star Fox Zero was freaking painful though. You couldn't just chase him and shoot him. You had to keep doing U-Turns and Barrel rolls in the same place to get a shot at hitting him. I turned the game off for a week after that fight.

Also, I personally believe Pikmin 3 is the best game on the system, next to Mario 3D World.

EDIT: also somehow forgot to mention Bayonetta 2 as one of the best games on the Wii U. Haven't had my coffee yet, obviously.

Re: Poll: Did Nintendo Triumph With The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at E3?

Gamecubed

I think it's obvious that Nintendo firmly believes that they have something special here. Who am I to question that? I think we need to appreciate that Nintendo has taken a big chance here and they have clearly pulled away from the formula. From what I watched, it reminds me a bit of the Witcher 3. But when I played the Witcher 3 for the first time, I thought of it as the 'M-rated Zelda', and maybe that's why I enjoyed it so much. I remember when I was playing and I found myself saying 'oh, it'd be cool if they had that in the next Zelda game'.

I almost see this game as if the format of the original Legend of Zelda from the NES had translated over and gotten to evolve in 3D instead of having the series stuck in the "3 dungeons-plot twist-more dungeons-endgame" pattern. I feel like this is the natural progression of the original Legend of Zelda.
I've been excited about this game ever since they first announced they were working on a new Zelda game. It'll be a day one buy for me. Would love to get some info on the story and some characters and I'd like to see some towns too. But, I'm happy with what I saw.

As for Nintendo's E3... er... showing two games just doesn't cut it for me. But with the Wii U on the way out... can you blame them? They probably don't have a lot to show that isn't NX related. I would have liked to have seen Paper Mario Color Splash though.

I think Sony brought the heat again this year. Next year with the NX will be definitely be the E3 to watch though. Metroid is coming, I just know it.

Re: Video: Check Out a Graphical Comparison for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD

Gamecubed

Looks like they're going to do the proper unflipped Gamecube version. I played on GC first and when I played on the flipped Wii version, I was terribly confused.
Can only really see the difference when they're side by side though. It's not like WWHD where the change was notable from the get-go. Of course, this isn't out until March of next year, so there is still plenty of time to smooth it all out. I don't think it was completely ready in time for the Direct, but after all the leaks and whatnot, I think it kind of forced Nintendo's hand a bit.

Re: Chris Prangar, Nintendo Treehouse Staffer Who Recently Spoke About His Work, Confirms He's Been Fired

Gamecubed

I'm not sure how I feel about this.
On one hand, it's probably in his contract that he can't speak publicly about his work and he should have known better. We all know how crazy Nintendo is about their image.

On the other hand, it's very sad that the guy has a family to care for and he got canned for appearing on a small podcast. It's not like he said anything bad.

Re: Nintendo: Wii U GamePad Is The Only Real Innovation This Console Cycle, But We Didn't Showcase It Well Enough

Gamecubed

Just PR blabber.

The games that should be on the Wii U aren't there.
How about an RTS or a TBS or some sort of world building game? They would probably translate very well and be amazing on the system.

I've had my Wii U for two years now. I didn't mind the gamepad at first, but now I just find it incredibly annoying.
Wish they would stop "innovating" and use that money on improving the system's power and making games instead.

Re: Disney Infinity Sales Struggling To Maintain Momentum

Gamecubed

1.0 was superior to 2.0 in most ways. It was simple but it offered variety, whereas most of the sets in 2.0 are just the same thing every time.

Their classic characters and films that would sell like hotcakes don't even get proper playsets and instead trickle in as single figures.
I mean, if 3.0 came out with a Beauty and the Beast or Little Mermaid or Alice in Wonderland or Lion King set, I'd lose my mind.
I mean, I like the figures. They're really nice, but 3.0 isn't even on my radar (aside from Mulan).

Re: Satoru Iwata Didn't Apologise For Nintendo's E3 Digital Event, Says Reggie Fils-Aime

Gamecubed

99% of the time, suits from companies don't come out and flat out say "I'm sorry" unless they've done something absolutely horrible. In which case, there's nothing to apologize for here.
Yeah, the presentation was pretty ho-hum and we're getting the exact opposite of what everybody wants. But dear lord, they're a video game company, they screwed up and people are acting like they just gave everybody cancer.

Re: Video: The Nintendo Life Reaction to Nintendo's E3 Digital Event

Gamecubed

The muppets were hilarious, I'll give them that. But seeing them now just makes me think of the slight disappointment. E3 had been pretty good. We'd had some pretty good showings from everybody in some way shape or form. So we were expecting Nintendo would follow suit. But it honestly felt like they were saying "hey, thanks for coming out.... we'll see you in 2016".
