Last month, Nordic Games mentioned how they had a game coming that Action/Adventure fans would appreciate. Many made the guess that this would be a port of Darksiders, considering that Darksiders II already came to the console early on. It appears that this turned out to be true, as Nordic Games has confirmed that they are working on a remastered Darksiders that will be coming to Wii U, as well as PS4 and Xbox One.
The game is expected to release sometime in the last quarter of 2016, with both physical and digital copies being planned. Online integration was mentioned as well, but it could easily just be referring to Miiverse support. Whether or not there'll be any additional content remains to be seen, but for €20/$20, it sounds like it'll be a steal all the same. If nothing else, it'll certainly help tide Action/Adventure fans over as they wait for Breath of the Wild. Here's the trailer from the original release:

What do you think? Will you be getting this? What did you think of Darksiders II? Drop us a comment in the section below.

I still need to finish II, but I've enjoyed it overall. I think I will probably get this one as well.
Wow major props to them for actually still releasing a game on the wii U. Don't think many other companies would do the same.
Maybe if it doesn't crash my system.
At last it's been officially confirmed. I think it's terrific news even if it is an old game. Darksiders II is a great game and this for €20 will be a bargain. A definite buy for me.
As I have enjoyed darksiders 2 very much, I will definitely pick this one up.
Q) What do you think?
A) I think it is pretty great timing for releasing this game on Wii U. There will be very little to compete with it for Wii U focused owners, particularly from Nintendo. It could very well receive strong support on the Wii U, and that in turn will be a good thing for both Nordic Games and delivering the message of 3rd party games being able to sell on Nintendo platforms. I've also heard plenty of good things about it, so this should give Nintendo focused owners a chance to enjoy a great game they likely missed out on.
Q) Will you be getting this?
A) Thanks to finally getting some work (casual contract job), I do have an extra bit of funds lying around, so the answer will be yes. I've heard good things about this game and it's series, and I would likely to support 3rd parties whenever there is a good released on Wii U that interests me.
Q) What did you think of Darksiders II?
A) I've yet to actually play Darksiders II, but it was a game that interested me at launch. The purchasing of other games took priority though, and for this year I've had to be careful with my money. With the release of the original Darksiders for Wii U though, I'll see to picking this game up somewhere, and storing it away until after I've bested the first game.
Sweet! Will be getting this. Already beat it but, love to get games on my system of choice. Hoping for good gamepad integration. Also hoping the series will be completed.
I quite enjoyed it on PC, I may get it on Wii U at some point.
Finally WII U managed to recive a new game that came out almost 7 years ago ! ...
Nice! I never finished II but with this announcement I'll definitely wait to play the first Darksiders so I can play them in order.
@Dark-Link73 Same here! Might as well wait now.
@Spanjard Why would it crash your system?
@peeks What about Twilight Princess HD or Wind Waker HD? Were they €20?
@Spanjard I experienced the same thing with Darksiders II. Wouldn't get past the load screen. Returned the game to the store. So have never played it and never bought it since to give it another go.
Good to hear a major AAA third-party game is ACTUALLY heading to Wii U. I hope that means Darksiders 2 sold well enough...
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Probably talking about Bayonetta
Probably will add this to the pile as I've enjoyed Darksiders II so far. It has to be a little more entertaining than rebuilding a NES library from the limited Virtual Console on Wii U.
Very happy for this news, I love both games. Had I know this would become a reality, I would have not played this game to completion last Summer vacations on PS3. Will pick this up for sure, replaying it sounds like a good plan.
Four years late.. I may get the PS4 version if there's little elso to buy this holiday season.
@RedeadLink I was being sarcastic. Most of us had already played Twilight Princess and Wind Waker before their HD upgrades on Wii U. Darksiders, however, as a Nintendo only owning gamer I've never experienced before. So this game is very welcome, as is its price(€20). Nintendo asked for €50 a piece for their efforts.
Well that's the right price for a day one purchase. I hope they make a profit on this one.
This will make up for the big gap in the Wii U's holiday lineup, and cover up that unsightly mound we all know Paper Mario is probably going to be. Looking forward to it.
I will be getting this just to show support for wii u devs. It's not s bad game in any way. It's not Zelda either. So I'll enjoy it once I get it since I did almost like the 2nd and I hear this one is better. Still, $20 is good deal .
Wii U game of the year: A 6 year old port.
SOLD! I don't get it. Nintendo are not releasing anything on Wii U this year, so what's stopping someone porting something like Chronicles of Riddick (hint hint) and taking advantage of a captive audience!?! I applaud Nordic for seeing this as an opportunity.
I'm starting to like Nordic Games!
This could be great, if the game runs smoothly. I think that is not much asked, as the original was released a long time ago, and Darksiders II runs decently on Wii U. Maybe they will even take some effects/animations from Darksiders II to make it look better.
Was that price (20£) mentioned by Nordic games, or is it just a guess?
I already own it - bought it twice actually - but I'll buy it again - hopefully they'll finish the series - I think they should try to combine the 3rd and 4th into one big finale for the series. 4 Games would be awesome - but it seems like they are having a hard time with the business side of things.
Got DS2 for WiiU on a sale...would totally get the first part on there too.
Mind you, I already own them both on PS3
@The_Dude_Abides Production is stopping in 2018.
I bought the last two releases from Nordic games on Wii U, and I wish I could support this, but I'm passing on this one. This is a game I quite literally cannot beat. Unless the game is modified to make the boss fight with Tiamat easier I won't touch this franchise again.
Its too bad I can't pass that part as I really wanted to see the rest of the game.
Honestly, I gotta give Nordic Games major props for this. While "mainstream" third party's have largely crapped all over Nintendo and its fans with sloppy ports, poor support and a lot of double talk, Nordic has actually stepped up to support Nintendo Wii U fans at a time when most would say not to.
I think this strategy is pretty smart and will serve them well when they start putting things on the NX as the hardcore Nintendo owners will be far more likely to trust and support them and their games versus EA, UbiSoft, Warner Bros., etc. who have done a lot of bridge burning with Nintendo fans over the last 4-5 years (in some cases even longer than that). Honestly, their approach got me to take notice as I finally gave Darksiders 2 a shot (great game) leading to me buying Legend of Kay Anniversary (really fun game) which has led me to wait in anticipation for the original Darksiders on Wii U. Kudos Nordic Games, I'm on board when you ultimately release Darksiders 3 on NX.
Yay! I love Darksiders II. Hopefully they iron out the kinks from DSII in this rerelease.
Great news and lovely price!
@TreonsRealm,
Agreed! They also earned my respect!
Awesome news that we thought was coming but great to see it confirmed. I'll be picking this up for sure and right away. Thank you Nordic Games.
Yes, but only if it is stable with a good frame rate.
Loved the original. For that price i'll probably get it again.
If the retail version should indeed cost a mere 20 euro only, I'd even buy that on day one, to show my support for that decision. Given that the port is decent, of course.
The original does look somewhat dated though (also in comparison to the sequel), so I hope the graphics will be improved even on the WiiU version.
Just finished the first one today. A great game, would need a lot of extras to make me get this version. If it had Wii Remote Support I would be all over it though!
It's pretty stupid they released remaster of 2 before 1. I guess there is nothing better than playing games out of order.
I liked 1 better, because it didn't try to be RPG as bad as Darksiders 2 did. Although the world map was also annoying.
I hope that someday we will get 3, because those were breedy gut games
@Grumblevolcano Yippee?
I really can't say I'm too excited about Wii U getting a game 7 years after it released, 3 or so years after getting it's sequel, in a series of games that may not ever get finished. But since it is a "remaster" of sorts, whatever they are calling it, also getting released on PS4 and X1, well then I guess that's good.
It was a really good game, enjoyed it much more than the 2nd, but at this point in time I'd actually be more excited if they announced NX was getting it rather than Wii U, I've moved on, and it feels like Nintendo has too. Though the 2 Starfox demos were nice of them.
Would be nice if they made a double pack.
There's money to be made here for Nordic Games otherwise it wouldn't be on Wii U nevermind getting a physical release. Other major 3rd parties should take note. Some haven't even made a single Wii U game. Meanwhile, here's a smaller company willing to take the chance and earn some major brownie points(they already earned some for The Book of Unwritten Tales 2). This'll be their 3rd physically released game in about the last year or so.
@rjejr I'd argue the bigger positive would be if Darksiders 3 is on NX. It's kind of like how I doubt a Pikmin trilogy (1,2,3,DLC) or Bayonetta double pack (1,2) would happen on NX despite sequels likely being on NX (Pikmin 4, Bayonetta 3) so Darksiders 1 on Wii U is fine. If Darksiders 1 was on NX, I'd expect a Darksiders 2 remaster on NX as well (which likely wouldn't happen).
Either way, it doesn't really change the 1 Wii U game in 9 months logic because Darksiders has been playable on last gen for a while.
As much as I wish Wii U was getting all the games possible, I actually expect this game won't sell particularly on the system. It's just the kind of game I imagine might have done well enough at the start of the system's life and will possibly do pretty well on the other current-gen consoles, but now it seems almost pointless putting it on Wii U. I am, however, happy to see another bigger-ish third party title on there at least. I just hope it doesn't have the opposite effect it should and instead of being a good thing just reaffirms to the big third parties that they were right in not supporting Wii U. I ultimately can't really blame the third parties though, because Nintendo basically stacked all the decks against this console from the get-go.
Darksiders 2 is very good, I like it a lot. At 20 euro this is a day one buy for me.
Many did not like U but I did. But after Star Fox 0/10 I can't watch U suffer anymore. It's time to euthanize the Wii U.
Given that the Wii U versions of Darksiders 2, Legend of Kay Anniversary and The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 (all from Nordic) are buggy, I won't be rushing to pre-order.
Day-one purchase if it's a decent port/remaster though.
The art style kinda reminds me of WoW, which I'm not a fan of. But I guess it's great news for everyone who enjoyed the 2nd game.
If the price is right, I'll probably get it and then add it to the backlog. I like supporting the releases we get on Wii U as much as possible and I'm glad Nordic is stepping up to the plate. I really don't imagine it selling incredibly well on any of the systems, especially the Wii U.
Played the second one on PS3 and enjoyed it, though I didn't finish it for whatever reason.
@Gamecubed It's €20/$20.
Finally. Been wanting this game on Wii U since launch when Darksiders 2 dropped.
I enjoyed the PC version of Darksiders enough that I will double dip and get the Wii U version as well.
After Nintendolife speculated that this might come true about a week ago, I picked up a copy of Darksiders II on eBay for $9.50. I wanted to own it, and was worried about the price of the game increasing like when Bayonetta 2 went from $25 to $50-60 after Bayonetta was announced for smash. Anyone think that Darksiders II will see an increase in demand with the news of the Darksiders remaster?
Fantastic news! I loved Darksiders on PS3 and played 2 on WiiU. Though both are great I think I preferred the first overall, so I'm glad others will get to experience this great game too now.
Plus maybe this will lead to enough money to fund the next two horse men's games
So glad to have something new to play during winter this year. I hope they patch Darksiders II so the clipping issue stops as well. Maybe? Maybe?!
@Spanjard this made me laugh
@NESlover85 Darksiders 2 on Wii U crashed... alot
loved ds2 on Wii U sadly i'll be picking this up on PS4
I've played them both and liked them for different reasons. This one was definitely more akin to a traditional Zelda game, which I absolutely loved.
Certainly interested in getting this. Darksiders II has been playing nicely for me on Wii U and I'd love to know the back story that got things to where it is now.
I'll be getting this game Darksiders 2 was amazing really good gamepad functionality not expecting Darksiders 1 too have that much gamepad features but at 20 bucks you can go wrong.
I'll def get this. Preferred this to the second one. I think being more linear worked better for this sort of game.
I will be getting day one . Fair play to um!
I got to play it a little a few years ago on a friend's PS3, and I didn't like it. It just wasn't for me. I don't see that changing now. I did get the 2nd game on my Wii U thanks to the Humble Bundle, but I haven't gotten around to playing it.
All that said, I hope the game turns out well for everyone else. The Wii U could use some more games not from crappy indies.
Great to see a third party put out a Wii U retail game (that's neither Skylanders nor Just Dance). All the same, I just finished Darksiders II a few days ago and I enjoyed it. The crashes weren't too terrible for me either. I might just get this if have an extra twenty bucks.
@Shiryu I have the second darksiders from the humble bundle but also a huge backlog. Since I have time on my side, is it worth playing the first game(story wise etc.) Before I play the second?
@ULTRA-64 Yes, wait it out and play the 1st game before the second.
I am so getting the first darksiders on wiiu. Can't wait to play it! The wiiu is almost dead but not completely dead yet.
Just wanted to give my recommendations for this game. It's still one of my top 5 PS3 games to this date. It's a grittier take on the Zelda formula which does a lot of things better than the Zelda games. It's better than the 2nd game imo. 20 bucks is a steal for this game.
I'm only getting it if it actually plays properly.
Darksiders II was too choppy during combat and that alone killed my interest to continue playing it entirely.
Good framerate would be nice next time.
I'm really excited for this! I haven't played II, but if it's a different take on the Zelda formula (which I love), I'm all for it. Still, I'll be waiting for a review on this one since it'll basically be a port; I don't mind things like choppy frame rate, but I don't want my Wii U to start randomly freezing like it has with ACIII.
i dont know why everyone is complaining about a crashing system.
i happen to enjoy a broken game and gaming systems just freezing up in the middle of my game. its kinda like a mini game of sorts. live wild.
I've been meaning to try out the Darksiders series, so this is good news for me.
@Seanmyster6
If you like Zelda then I don't think you'll be disappointed with Darksiders
And people said the WiiU was dead...
LOL!
@Trinexx I didnt had any problems with ACIII on Wii U... offline. This game on every platform are experiencing issues when successfully connecting to uPlay server, especially Wii U and PC versions. The difference is that the PC client has a offline mode that the console versions don't have. They averted this on Black Flag, that has a offline mode.
One thing that I hate in Ubisoft is that ALWAYS they manage to fix some problem of the game on their sequel, instead of fixing right away. Many games have complaints on the uPlay forums, but they do nothing.
€20 sounds like a steal for the original game (my PS3 disc got banjaxed.)
It would be lovely if this was pointing to a potential 3rd game in the series coming out in the future and hopefully for NX.
@TheCodemastr: Other than some major issues when starting up the game for the first time (resolved by re-downloading the updates to the game; I have the physical version), I had no issues for over a month until it started randomly freezing.
At the time, I had no clue what was going on and tried everything I could think of: I checked the disk, made sure my system wasn't overheating (it wasn't), shut off my internet, changed my Miiverse settings to English-only, etc. The freezes weren't game-breaking, so I pushed on through them and finished the game.
A couple months ago, I realized that the problem may have been related to me accidentally OK-Ing the game to transmit to Ubi's servers; this popped up each time I loaded the game, and one evening I accidentally allowed it. To my knowledge that action can't be undone. I never logged into Uplay, however.
Thanks for mentioning that Black Flag has an offline mode. I picked it up around the same time as ACIII and have been apprehensive about starting it. To be fair, the only issue I ever found with Black Flag online for the Wii U was a weird obscure one that was reliant on Miiverse, which I barely use.
Could Nordic Games finally patch Book of Unwritten Tales 2 so the game becomes playable?
If it's $20 for all consoles, then I'll gladly triple dip on this game (I own the original) on ps4 and wiiu to support them. However, if things change down the line, my main priority will be on ps4 to experience the game Remastered with richer visuals
I'd like to play it on the gamepad but I have to see the quality on all systems first. Darksiders 2 wasn't enhanced much at all on ps4 and actually ran worse than the previous gen and Wii U versions.
I thought the demo I played of Darksiders 1 was pretty awesome actually, so this is pretty good news.
Excellent, I have it for PC already, but got to support this awesome company and will be buying Darksiders for sure when it comes for Wii U.
I got II with the Humble bundle, and finally started playing it. I had always been curious, and thus far it mostly doesn't disappoint. It's highlights are its upgradable components, it's Zelda/Prince of Persia action components. Loading can be annoying as it wants to be seemless but can interrupt the flow when entering new areas, but it's minor compared to the intense screen tearing.
I hear the original is better, so if I get through II I'll definitely check out the original.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE they did score when purchasing up the rights to those THQ games. Their history on Wii is shovelware city. It's a smart sell at the right time for Wii U only owners, who have little in terms of retail releases in the coming months, Just don't put it out at the same time as Paper Mario.
@Trinexx Mine is physical too, even with some DLC that some people were complaining of glitching the game (again, with all versions, not only Wii U). I know ACIII is very glitchy regardless of the platform, but nowhere near as Unity.
@RoomB31 That concerns me a little. I already played Darksiders on PS3 and it was a screen tearing fest, but perform good on most part (the final one, that you have to revisit come locations is very glitchy). Wii U games have forced v-sync that I like (on PS3, almost any game has screen tearing and this is very annoying), but on the other hand, the game can run worse because of the forced v-sync. On PC games, it is well known of deactivating v-sync for better performance.
