A while ago we told you about a new title being developed by Arc System Works, Chase: Unsolved Cases Investigation Division – Distant Memories, which was being led by Taisuke Kanasaki and was employing the talents of multiple staff from the now shuttered CiNG studio. They're well known for narrative-driven titles on the DS in particular, including the likes of Trace Memory, Hotel Dusk: Room 215 and Last Window: The Secret of Cape West.
The new title has a similar look to the latter two of those, and pleasingly Aksys has now confirmed that it'll be localising the release as Chase: Cold Case Investigations - Distant Memories, with the following snap from a panel at Anime Expo.
That Fall arrival applies to North America, of course, though hopefully this will make its way to Europe.
The pedigree of those involved and the style of the title certainly caught our eye when it emerged in the Japanese press earlier in the year, so we're pleased it's coming to the West. A couple of screenshots are below for your perusal; let us know what you think in the comments.

looks like a more serious investigator than the ace attorney. btw phoenix wright showed up in that capcom fighting game, ultimate marvel versus capcom 3. since arc system works also makes fighting games, maybe this guy will show up in a blazblue or guilty gear title.
Will make sure to get this. Hopefully it's more like the Nintendo games instead of how Again was, painfully dull and too focused on the puzzles.
great news =D was hoping this would come to the west
Seems that they decided to completely drop the rotoscoping altogether.
It still looks great, just with a little less personality this time around.
Anyway, those are totally Kyle and Rachel in the screenshot isn't it?
Great News !!

I hope they are because I like Kyle Hyde. If not, they're a huge rip-off.
I don't quite remember how I wound up with it, but I had a copy of Hotel Dusk that had its sticker rubbed off, so it was kind of a "mystery cartridge". Very fitting for this game, actually.
Are the other games in this series part of the same storyline/canon? Or are they just stylistically similar?

Yes.
This is excellent news. I'm really happy. Hotel Dusk was great and I've been wanting to import Last Window from Europe for quite some time now.
I liked Trace Memory more then Hotel Dusk but both were/are great. I haven't gotten to play the sequels yet but would like to at some point. I'm now looking forward to this.
Looks very good indeed.
Definately interested. I'll keep an eye on this for sure.
The art style alone -no matter how much they changed it, I recognize Kyle Hyde from a mile away- brings back great memories. I never knew Last Window was going to be released, I caught a glimpse of the box through the window of a game store, went in, and bought it. I LOVED their games, and their DS adventures were mostly great. The three mentioned are among my favourite games on the system, and the fourth one wasn't released in Europe as far as I know, wasn't as good either, but I have it imported nonetheless.
Since that is no longer an option, please bring this one to Europe as well.
Will keep an eye on this one. Really enjoyed Hotel Dusk.
Nice! I'll be getting this.
@fikriharish just wanted to let you guys know that at least in the Japanese version, its not Kyle Hyde. The story takes place in urban Japan with all Japanese characters. The lead looks very much like Kyle Hyde though.
I think this is awesome. This will probably not get a physical release, but I think that I will still purchase it nonetheless since I was a big fan of Hotel Dusk.
They can't use Kyle or Ashley because Nintendo has the rights to them unfortunately, I naturally like that Nintendo has them but highly doubt they would use them elsewhere so they're stuck in limbo basically.
@Lizuka I bought Last Window on ebay a few years ago(pal version) and it played fine on my 3dsXL. Did some research before i bought it. It was a great game as was the first one. Cing has a game called "Again" which i thought was great too. I do miss Kyle Hyde though....
Yeah! Good news for me I loved the Cing games
@AlienX we can pretend this is Kyle Hyde's distant Japanese relative so its still in the same universe.
i'm not familiar with this, but it looks like my kinda thing.
Ah, a sudden flashback to Cold Case, a too short-lived U.S.(?) crime procedural that didn't make me writhe in irritation. Meanwhile: NCSIS: SUV...
I had problems with Hotel Dusk, but that's probably because I was playing it fresh off the heels of 9 persons 9 hours 9 doors and wanted more games like that.
Once I'm completely done with Zero Time Dilemma, I will check into these ones again. I did always like the art style. Just hope I wont be forced to hold my 3DS on it's side.
Sure hope this game have a physical release.
I remember Jake Hunter was a pretty good one too along the same lines of interactive detective pulp novel. Was Trace Memory any good? There are a ton of them going for dirt cheap at my local EB Games.
I also hope they will consider releasing Last Window to the North American market - they did re-release 999 for 3DS so I haven't given up hope!
I've been waiting for a game like this. The Cruis Ship Mystery game is pretty good but it has things missing that this game will fill in the gaps. I have really been hoping for a JB Harold type of murder mystery game. I hope this it. The detective sim games don't have enough good games in the that genre. The screenshots look like top notch artwork. I can't wait to see this
Need this in Europe!!
On my most wanted list!
@Hey-Cha-La I immediately thought "Jake Hunter" as soon as I saw the game's artwork in the headline. In fact, they share similar titles as the original Jake Hunter DS game had a remake on the same system subtitled 'Memories of the Past.' I felt Trace Memory was a very good game. It has a moody and kind of eerie vibe to it, plus the artwork is great and the story is really good, too. It stinks that the sequel (which was oddly released for the Wii instead of the original target which was the DS) never made it stateside.
Loved Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk. THESE are the point-and-click/adventure/novel games I love and can NEVER get enough of. CiNG may be gone, but I am absolutely, fangasmicly, hype that the staff has risen from it's ashes. I will be following this game with bated breath (time to whip out the gum).
@c1pher_c0mplet
Cool! I'll pick up a copy the next time I'm in the store. I also have the Jake Hunter follow up as well.
Oh wow, it looks just as awesome as their previous games. Will be for sure bought if it comes to Europe.
