Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 6th)

Gamecubed

Finally getting around to playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey. 20 hours in and I'm addicted. One of the best games Ubisoft has made, IMO
I wish they'd have just made this a stand-alone historical epic RPG instead of attaching it to the Assassin's Creed brand though. It's not much of an AC game. It pulls even further away than Origins did. More like "Witcher Effect: Zero Dawn", which I am totally okay with.

Also have to give them credit for putting some real thought into the stories that are told in the side quests. Huge improvement.

Re: Nintendo, Sony And Microsoft All Under Investigation Over Online Gaming Services

Gamecubed

These online memberships aren't really the most consumer friendly thing on the planet, but I wouldn't say they are doing anything super illegal. I was easily able to cancel auto-renewal on PSN. Last time I was a PS Plus member, they notified me a couple times via email to say that my membership was going to expire soon and that I could renew it or set it to auto-renewal or whatever. Haven't used any online services outside of that.

But that said, I am a believer in being able to get a refund on digital content. It's a real grey area and it differs from company to company. I'd say there needs to be a standard set that says you are eligible for a refund up to X number of days/hours after purchasing or something like that. It's becoming almost too common for kids to purchase a bunch of games/add-ons without their parents knowing until they get the credit card bill.

Re: Random: The Conspiracy Chatter Is Growing: Maybe There Is No Star Fox Grand Prix

Gamecubed

Could possibly be what Retro was working on between DKCTF and their recently announced shift on to the development of Prime 4. Development may not have been going well, and any assets ended up getting handed to Ubisoft to use in Starlink.

Let's be realistic here folks.... a new F-Zero would sell better simply because it's established as a racing franchise. Besides, think of how many people would be screaming in rage if Star Fox came out of left field with a sci-fi racing game, yet F-Zero is sitting on the shelf.

Re: Take-Two Says Civilization VI Sales "Significantly Exceeded Expectations", Excited To Support Switch In Future

Gamecubed

A surprisingly good console port. After all these years, developers have seemingly been able to come up with a winning formula for console controller controls. Glad to hear that it has done well for them. Also good to see they had realistic expectations for it, and not like EA's pie-in-the-sky numbers.

The absence of GTA V is perplexing. The Switch could easily handle the game since it was a 360/PS3 title, and if you believe the rumours, there was a working Wii U port at one point. This leads me to wonder if they're having technical issues with porting it to the cartridge.
That said, there is a laundry list of games 2K could bring to the system, now that they know they have a stable base to sell to.

Re: Metroid Prime 4 Development Scrapped, Will Be Restarted Alongside Retro Studios

Gamecubed

I'm completely okay with this. Not many companies would come out and publicly state that the development has not been going well and it is not up to their standards so they're starting from scratch. Most companies nowadays would just push it out anyway.....

Actually a bit stunned by Nintendo's forthcoming honesty on this one, but glad that they have a quality standard. If anything, this is proof that Nintendo cares about Metroid (more than many of us thought). But with this delay, I don't expect to see this game until the end of the Switch's life.
But at least we finally kind of know what Retro is doing.

Re: Looking For A Brand New Wii U? That'll Be $800 Please

Gamecubed

Unopened consoles or even consoles with their original boxes will always fetch a lot of money. If you're dumb enough to buy it for that price, you deserve to be scammed.
I still have my white basic 8GB model (with external hard drive, of course) hooked up next to my Switch and PS4. I hardly use it, but I don't have the heart to put it away.

Re: Reggie: Nintendo Would "Love" Red Dead Redemption 2 On Switch

Gamecubed

The game takes up two whole blu-ray discs. It's massive. It'll never happen. It'd be nice, but it won't happen. I mean, the game seems to have a hard time running on PS4/XB1 to begin with, but it somehow manages to work.

Now, the original Red Dead Redemption, that'd be something that I'd be interested in seeing again. Also surprised they haven't brought GTAV to the Switch yet.

Re: Rumour: German Retailer Lists Assassin's Creed Compilation For Nintendo Switch

Gamecubed

It's not a big stretch of the imagination. The Ezio trilogy was released for PS4/XB1, and Nintendo has a good relationship with Ubisoft. I don't see why the Switch couldn't have a shot at getting that release.

If it's something different (like a new compilation collection), I could see AC3, AC4 and Liberation/Rogue getting an all-in-one re-release. I mean "The Americas Collection" did come out on last gen systems, so it could just be a simple repackaging of that release for PS4/XB1/Switch.

Re: Japan's My Nintendo Store Is Now Offering Free Posters, Switch Online Trials And More

Gamecubed

Now I miss Club Nintendo. I mean, yeah it kind of sucked, but at least you were offered physical items. I still have the Hanafuda cards, the Majora's Mask soundtrack, the Majora's Mask puzzle and the ALBW poster set. I have several game downloads from it on my Wii U as well.
My Nintendo is a free complimentary service, but when you replace your rewards program with a lesser program, how can people not complain?

Re: Pokémon: Let's Go Sells 3 Million Copies In First Week, Becomes Fastest-Selling Game On Switch

Gamecubed

I'm personally really enjoying my time with the Eevee version... and yes, I've been around since gen 1. SHOCKING! Gamefreak tried something different and I'm okay with it!!! GASP
I hope they make "Let's Go Johto" in the future, because there is something very charming and refreshing about this game.

But seriously, I'm going to just assume most of the people bashing the games are over 20 years old. You're an adult getting salty about a Pokemon game, what are you actually doing with you life? You could just not buy it? But that's too difficult, I guess.

Re: Pokémon Let's Go Might Be The Final Time Junichi Masuda Directs The Main Series

Gamecubed

This would be a good change both creatively and professionally. This guy still has plenty of time left in his career, but it'd be good to see him take on a more... supervisor-ish role.
Nintendo has been having a great deal of luck allowing their new and younger talent to have more say. I mean, Pokemon has been in this weird backward stasis state ever since the end of gen 4.
I didn't care for gen 5 at all, gen 6 was forgettable and gen 7 was the definition of handholding.

The Pokemon world is just an untapped hotbed for creativity. There are so many stories and types of gameplay that could be explored. Colosseum and Gale of Darkness are some of my favourite games in the whole series, and they didn't follow the traditional path. I think they need to look at concepts like that more while moving forward.

Re: Sony Responds To Nintendo's Success With Its Very Own PlayStation Classic Mini Console

Gamecubed

I love PS, but I didn't have a PS1, so I don't really have any strong feelings attached to it whatsoever. I played Crash Bandicoot and Spyro on my cousin's PS1 a fair bit when I was little, but that's as far as my memories go. I'd sooner buy an N64 Classic.

$130CAD for 20 games seems a little too dear for a system I have no connection to. You could buy a used PS1 system and the games you want to play for less.
I don't play my Nintendo Classics as much as I'd like to. I just put my SNES Classic away a couple weeks ago. So I take that as a sign of what to do. Besides, everyone knows the PS1/N64 era games have aged like milk in more ways than one.

Re: Cities: Skylines Is Out Now On The Nintendo Switch

Gamecubed

Quite a surprise.
Great game, I have it on PS4 already. The controls on console are surprisingly decent.
Good game for anyone looking to fill the SimCity void, though I find it lacks the difficulty those games had (though I think the DLC packs may remedy this, as one adds natural disasters). Once you get your population over a certain number, I think it's near impossible to get a Game Over.

I also suggest Surviving Mars to anyone into these sorts of games, if it also comes to Switch eventually. It's a bit more challenging.

Re: LEGO Harry Potter Collection Brings The Magic To Switch Next Month

Gamecubed

Easily some of the better Harry Potter games in general, and they're also some of the better Lego games, along with Lord of the Rings and the original Star Wars games.

I have them on PS3 from years ago, and I recently got the collection for PS4 out of the bargain bin. Don't think I'll buy again, but maybe someday I will if I get a deal on it. I do love Harry Potter.

Re: Rollercoaster Tycoon Rated By the Australian Classification Board

Gamecubed

Seriously guys, if you're looking for a theme park game, don't buy Atari's modern junk. Planet Coaster should fill the void just fine. Great game. Love to see some kind of console release of it. Cities Skylines and Surviving Mars on PS4 proved to me that these types of games CAN work on console.

SimCoaster/Theme Park was a good game too, though it wasn't AS good as RCT2 and it had that blue b**** in the bottom right corner popping up and yapping at you every 30 seconds.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend?

Gamecubed

Spiderman the Movie Game for OG Xbox. Played this on Gamecube as a kid, still love it. Bought the Xbox version recently at a yard sale so I can play it on my 360 with HDMI.

Might play some Pokemon Omega Ruby as well, we'll see. It's going to be an insanely hot and humid weekend here, so I don't see myself wanting to leave the house much.

Re: Reggie Knows You Want Nintendo To Localise Mother 3 And Make Another Animal Crossing

Gamecubed

Basically corporate lingo for "WE KNOW! Shut up. Stop asking. No promises, but we'll see". I think I'd get annoyed with being asked all the time about Mother 3 and other franchises.

Nintendo has proved a few times in recent years that they are listening to us. I think they're listening now more than ever, but you can only do so much and things can take a long time to come together.

Re: Nintendo Says Switch Success Is Due To Clear Marketing, As Opposed To Wii U's Failure

Gamecubed

People still don't even know that the Wii U existed, or if they did, they didn't know it was its own console. Everyone thought it was an overpriced add-on for the Wii.
I think they'd have sold twice as many units if they'd just named it something else. Even something as lazy as "Super Wii" would have been better.

I love my Wii U, but once you go from holding the Switch in handheld mode to the Wii U gamepad, the difference is amazing. The gamepad feels like a Fisher-Price toy in comparison.

Re: Poll: As "Gaming Disorder" Becomes A Thing, Is It Time To Assess How Much You Play?

Gamecubed

The media has always singled out games, and this is just the latest attempt to beat a dead horse. In the 90s/early-00s it was violence and mature themes. In the mid-00s some kid ran away from home because his parents took his 360 away from him, and the media told everyone that he MUST HAVE been picked up by some stranger he met on Xbox Live, so online gaming services are bad.
Now we're going to treat people that play games like they're an alcoholic. Way to freak out all the parents again.

ANYTHING can be an addiction. But I don't know how being addicted to gaming is any worse than being a cellphone zombie? I think we have more of a wide-spread issue with people gazing at their phones for hours on end and having a symbiotic relationship with it. They can't go to the washroom without it. I've seen people have panic attacks after losing their phone. Why is that acceptable?

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's E3 2018 Went Big On Smash Bros. But Left Us Wanting More

Gamecubed

It was definitely more of a Nintendo Direct presentation than an E3 one.
They said they'd focus on Smash, and they did. But it just kept going on and on and on. It looks like a super doped up deluxe release of the Wii U game (not a bad thing). Which would be fine if it were a Smash Direct, but this was E3. Was expecting "one more thing before we go.....", but it never happened.
Where was Metroid, Yoshi, No More Heroes, Bayonetta etc?

Nintendo does announce some stuff through their Treehouse presentations as well, but this just seemed like a huge missed opportunity. Microsoft and Sony also had fairly underwhelming shows this year, so it's not a huge deal.

Happy to hear that Dragon Ball FighterZ is coming to Switch though. Almost bought it the other day for PS4, glad I held off.
