Re: Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution GBA Limited Run Pre-Orders Now Live

EVIL-C

@AstroTheGamosian Meanwhile, games that get standard releases, not the FOMO limited time crap that LRG pushes, many are still available easily years later at retail, without some arbitrary cut-off date. Not counting this GBA novelty, Shantae games for modern platforms like Switch, PS, etc. also get standard releases in other regions, like Asia. They're not held hostage by LRG like in North America.

Re: Xbox's Pentiment Is Getting A Limited Run Physical Switch Release, Pre-Orders Coming Soon

@Aneira That's the issue. Many of us are interested, but we're sick of seeing multibillion dollar companies like Microsoft, Konami, Bethesda, Ubisoft, Disney, etc. using a boutique publisher that was originally geared to providing indie titles a chance at retail. We're sick of paying $15-20 just for shipping. We're sick of the 1-year+ turnaround times on most of their stuff. We're sick of seeing games that would otherwise cost a reasonable amount, balloon to $150 and higher because of this artificial FOMO one-print-only BS. Do you know what Nintendo did when, for example, Torna: The Golden Country was OOP, and the game was selling used for $100+? THEY PRINTED MORE. Suddenly, I could get a copy for a reasonable price again, which I finally was able to. Good luck doing that for anything from LRG a few years down the line, when you discover an interesting new game and check for a physical version. 😳

Their release of Scott Pilgrim even requires Ubisoft Connect to even get it to work, DESPITE having the physical copy. This defeats the entire purpose of buying a supposed "complete, fully playable offline" hard copy.

Limited Run is a cancer on the industry. It was commendable at one time when they were legitimately helping indies get to retail, but now its been completely bastardized. There is absolutely ZERO reason they couldn't offer a second round of preorders on very popular, expensive titles, like for example the Switch version of Shantae and the Pirates Curse. It's pure artificial, FOMO nonsense.

Re: More Switch 2 Rumours Surface In New "Exclusive" From Reuters

EVIL-C

@GrailUK Reuters has been around since 1851, and they're also based in the UK; London specifically. Being from the UK and not knowing the name at least, is quite surprising.

Anyway, this "exclusive", didn't tell us anything we didn't already presume; 2024 release date, with a custom Nvidia chip, like every other rumour. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Re: Princess Peach: Showtime! Best Buy Pre-Order Revealed (North America)

EVIL-C

@HeadPirate Yeah fair enough. I re-watched the debut trailer and it does raise questions. Nintendo could've communicated the specifics a little better of what the seemingly non-platforming levels will be like. What's the level progression like? Will some of these, like the Patisserie Peach game, be a mini-game or an entire level? I've no doubt it'll be a fun game, but Nintendo should've given more details about it by now.

Re: Shantae And The Pirate's Curse Reprint Revealed As Limited Run's "Final 3DS Release"

EVIL-C

@AstroTheGamosian I remember when the PS3 could conveniently rip soundtracks. I got some soundtrack CDs πŸ’Ώ through Wii games, Nintendo Power magazine issues, and other random CE's, and I'd just rip them all onto the PS3 effortlessly, Hahaha. πŸ˜‚

But I do agree with you that more companies should add their official game soundtracks to audio streaming platforms. They're great for listening to. Some of the best music ever composed was created for a video game, and many are just as enjoyable listening to on their own outside of their respective games. πŸ™‚πŸŽΆ

EVIL-C

@RupeeClock Yeah I did see those updates. That may address, at least on paper, some of the multitude of criticism of LRG. We'll see. I'm just grateful to have the last North American 3DS release and was lucky to not miss it. Finally... πŸ™

@AstroTheGamosian Same, I legit wanted a hard copy. I loved Pirates Curse all the way back when it released digitally. Never bought the Rising Star published copy, so I bought both the regular and CE of this one. Onto my shelf it shall go. Thus, I shut up, and LRG took my money. Sigh... πŸ˜“

@Zeebor15 The Best Buy/LRG partnership thing is or was sold through the US only. Notice my avatar? I'm from Canada 🍁, so I never took advantage of it. LRG titles weren't sold in CDN Best buy stores, or on the CDN website.

That's cool about Akka Arrh. I love seeing old, lost projects finally get completed and released. πŸ₯Ή It reminds me of how Airworld was also finished and included in Atari 50. I must get around to playing that compilation.

Re: One-Third Of Game Developers Impacted By Layoffs In 2023, GDC Reports

EVIL-C

@Kiyata I think it's a combination of many factors. The market is absolutely saturated with new games; far more than we ever could've imagined in the 80s and 90s.

Budgets for blockbuster titles have really gotten out of hand in most respects; with one mediocre performing title can cripple a studio, regardless of its quality.

It's very hard to complete with free games like Fortnite, or cheap titles like Minecraft that still enjoy enormous popularity with huge mainstream appeal, which can easily be supported with DLC and loot boxes, etc.. So anyone just mostly focusing on that, isn't going to spend much money or time on other titles.

Then we've got your straight up classic greedy a-holes like Embracer that tried to gobble up everything they could, choked, and bankrupted a bunch of studios. No mystery there. R. I. P. (again) Timesplitters... 😭 😭

Those are just four examples, but I'm sure there are at least a dozen more significant issues contributing to the decline. πŸ˜”

@Fiskern If you're referring to Chicken Wiggle, I'm fully aware. I'm on the KS list. I backed the game. It's coming soon. The point is, it should have been out AGES ago. Same goes for Treasurenauts.

I've got the personally signed Dementium 2 poster from Jools that was given away prior to the original DS release of Dementium 2. I've followed Jools for years and am a huge fan of most of their work, including Moon, Mutant Mudds, Xeodrifter, even got the Atooi collection from the scumbags at Limited Run, every though I didn't need it. In recent years however, Jools has not been delivering at all. Games like that Soccer title for Switch are garbage. It's a stark contrast to the RK/Atooi of yesteryear.

Re: Atooi Shadow Drops Adorable Roguelike Dungeon Hopper On Switch eShop

@wideawakey There's very little actual journalism within the gaming industry. Real investigative work, grilling CEOs with tough questions, holding publishers accountable when they do or say really stupid stuff, for example. Nlife would have to be blind to the negative feelings towards Atooi(formally Renagade Kid) /Jools, but they seemingly just ignore it, because that would otherwise open a can of worms they are clearly avoiding.

I'm just waiting for my backer copy of Chicken Wiggle at this point. This Qbert clone doesn't look appealing at all. What happened to this company's vision? It's bizzare and sad.
