Don't be gullible LRG apologist saps like Charlie; If there's a non-LRG, standard retail international version, with the same content, buy that instead. I feel very burned after buying the original TMNT:SR from LRG 2 years ago. Never again. 😡
The reason they "give" you Shantae is cause LRG and Wayforward's owner are close personal friends, which to me is a conflict of interest. Outside of NA, it's just any old standard release that no one gives two poops about, still readily available years later, unlike NA.
What's worse is the disregard some in this comment section have for legitimate issues with LRG have been highlighted for years, that continue to happen with them (like the low quality CD-Rs that wouldn't play D and their total lack of transparency), brushing them off as "entitlement" or "being crybabies". In reality, The lack of critical thinking or objective criticism towards LRG by some here is astonishing.
@World You should try to look past, errr, past depictions of the Rabbids, and focus on the Mario characters and the tactical gameplay of this series. They're two of the best strategy games I've played in years. ❤ Plus for me, the Rabbids are actually amusing and make the game better.
@Serpenterror That's true, and I had completely forgot to mention that that buyout happened with Embracer (one of the worst companies in the industry). I agree 100% with what you said; they aren't indie owned anymore, so there's no need for LRG to pretend like they are. The limited FOMO crap is BS. 👍
@yohn777 I was associating lunacy with lunatic, which to be fair you didn't directly call me that, so fine we can put that to rest. And yes of course you're "allowed" to have different opinions. Anything otherwise was never stated nor implied.
Ironically, some of those Star Wars games end up going to regular retail, like Podracer/Republic Commando and the Jedi Knight 2-packs. I wish I that was true of every Star Wars re-release.
Fighting a bot for a title that balloons up to $200-300 on eBay, vs. under-printing certain games that have exceeded demand (like some of the Shantae Switch releases) is not infinitely better. Same BS, different way of going about it. Their insistence on never reprinting anything only serves to benefit one who already got a copy when it was cheaper. LRG hasn't solved the FOMO problem at all.
And btw, go to Playasia and what will you find? Japanese or SEA copies of several Shantae titles at a reasonable price as one comparative example.
There are obscure games, and then obscure games that people actually want. Games that get many, many requests. LRG should focus on those. Even they've realized some titles like Bill & Ted sold poorly. You can't argue for LRG to expand their business, and then in the next breath disregard their product selling poorly by their own admission. That makes no sense. If you ran your business like that, you'd be bankrupt.
Your buying habits with games sound exactly like mine; after housing and food, games & entertainment takes a lot of my income that is disposable, because I'm a lifelong gamer and I adore the hobby; as a pass time, as a business, as an art form, the joy it has brought me, you name it. Cheers. 🍻
Oh that's completely fair about the big publishers point. Something I didn't explain at all. After a Ubisoft, a Konami, a Sega, etc.. does such a deal once, it's going to happen again. And again. And again. A giant, multi-billion dollar, multi-decades experienced publisher, should not be using a boutique retail label, when they had previously published these games themselves in years past. The fact these huge companies are doing this, and so frequently, is outrageous to me. They aren't "Indie studio 154" with 2 employees, pouring everything they have into making 1 game, let alone the pipedream of seeing their game in physical form.
This does go back to my above point that many Japanese or SEA games, one can find those at regular retail like Playasia or Amazon Japan (like Shantae), but here in North America, some games get held hostage by LRG/their publisher, when other regions do not, which really bothers me. (The owner of wayforward and LRG have a close personal relationship, hence why Shantae is now always LRG exclusive in North America).
I would like them to improve. The one area I can give them credit on (see, I'm not unreasonable) is their shipping prices have drastically gone down, at least as of this year. What was commonly $15 USD for a game every time, is now like $7 USD. They just kind of had to add a new drawback by taking away other payment options, so... 🤷♂️🤦♂️
Some independent stores such as Videogames Plus or PNP games here in Canada routinely stock various LRG (and others) titles, so I try to use them if there's a LRG title I REALLY want. They've already made the purchases, plus it's usually cheaper since they get a volume discount (and $0 shipping), and it supports a local business, which is easier to stomach for me.
@yohn777 LRG has published many Star Wars Aspyr titles. SW is owned by Disney, and all associated products and re-releases. Did you forget that?
Did you not see my quotes around "indie"? How could you miss my ironic use of indie? Of course LRG isn't an indie publisher anymore. That's the whole point of part of my criticism. 🤦♂️ The abandonment of their roots. They wanted to help Indie titles from Tiny development teams find a path to retail; now they can't wait to promote and publish the latest title from Ubisoft, Bethesda, Konami, and now apparently Sega.
The lunacy of my statement? Talk about hyperbolic. I've been burned by LRG. Waiting 12+ months for some past orders. Paying $15 USD shipping throughout most of their existence. Scott Pilgrim's false advertising of requiring an online check to boot up, when LRG advertises " always being able to play everything from them offline".
Their weird obsession with trying to publish a lot of junk titles for the lulz, like Plumbers don't wear ties or Bill & Ted (the latter bombed), is annoying and foolish from a business and fan perspective.
The recent fiasco of them using low quality CDRs for the 3DO release of D, and they didn't tell anyone beforehand.
They've even recently taken away other payment options, like PayPal and Sezzle. Not only is one limited to a 30-day window, but now one has to pay all at once, rather than split the payment up over a few weeks. Talk about adding insult to injury.
Please inform yourself on LRGs history and practices before attacking and name-calling others.
Sega has joined the scumbag tier of Ubisoft, Konami, Bethesda, Disney, etc. in using an "indie" publisher to release their title. 🤦♂️
LRG is a cancer on the hobby, and the big publishers fuel it.
@Grumblevolcano Yes very true, Astrobot would be right at home on Nintendo. It looks very Mario-like. I just personally won't hold my breath, (plus I'm fine with playing Astro on PS5) but stranger things have happened. 🤷♂️
@Zeebor15 Oh I forgot that Team Asobi developed Astros playroom. The debut trailer for Astrobot just screamed "Nintendo", since they really seemed to strike the aesthetics and style of what one may find in Mario Galaxy or Odyssey. My hopes for Astrobot remain high. 😄
@Grumblevolcano Should anyone have expected Astrobot on Switch 2? Aside from being Sony published, I don't see the connection. Just like I wouldn't expect The Last of Us on Switch 2 either. Let's just be glad that LHA is coming to Switch at all. 👏
@Elbow At the risk of sounding too political, especially over one incident with LRG I'm barely familiar with, since many companies, and not solely LRG, are fire-happy when it comes to employees, as well as online trolls who actively try to get people fired, best thing I can say in general is be mindful about what one says online, and that goes for everybody. Most workplaces lack democracy as well, so it's difficult to even adjudicate a wrongful termination claim too, but that's an entirely seperate can of worms.
All of my issues with LRG are with their product quality, pricing, shipping times, the FOMO peddling crap, not being transparent with their CDs for the D release, Scott Pilgrim requiring an online check to work, recently focusing too much on terrible crap like Plumbers don't wear ties, losing touch with their roots as an indie-focused publisher, too many deals with established publishers like Bethesda, Ubisoft, Disney, Konami etc.. when they should be handling their own titles; those are just the criticisms off the top of my head. But hey, if that user wants to fund LRG with money, on an average 3D platformer from 25 years ago, it is what it is. 🤷♂️ But I'll give my rebuke iff they call me out first, lol. 😂
@Qwiff @Ristar24 Turok 2 is an absolutely outstanding game, but holy crap is it difficult, and easy to get lost in the levels. Thankfully, internet access to a guide is much easier now than in the late 90s when I played it. 😅
That reminds me of how Super Noah's Ark 3D is just a reskin of SNES Wolfy 3D. If I had to guess, Wolfy 3D is probbaly worse than the Doom port? Oh dear...
@sword_9mm Considering Rebecca Heineman was only given 10 weeks to port the entire game by herself, the result is remarkable, albiet still awful to play, sadly. 😅 At least the 3DO version had good music. 🎶
1. Lol, no. If Nintendo for example announces the release date of "Game X" as "February 21st", that usually means both digital and physical will be available the same day. Sometimes physical is delayed, like with Pikmin 1 + 2, but this isn't the norm.
A digital release, with some LRG release 8+ months later, is not the same at all. The Tomb Raider collection is another example. I could've played it months ago, but having to wait on the weird/stupid, LRG/standard retail hybrid release is ridiculous. Another 7 months... 🤦♂️ At least it went to standard retail.
2. So it took them 10 years to reduce their shipping. slow clap 👏 You know how shipping could be reduced further? By just releasing a standard physical edition (like many Asian market releases), so I can get the benefit of free delivery. At least with the multi-billion dollar publishers, they can afford it.
3. My first few Switch games were all fine, I never said they weren't (and you'd know this if you engaged in good faith with the critics)... until Scott Pilgrim. That's when I knew LRG was not on the level.
You don't need to have experienced it (3DO issue) directly. It was widely reported. LRG immediately acknowledged it admitted they f-ed up, and that they hadn't disclosed what their release plan was. LRG literally were hoping no one would notice. That's plain-faced deceitful business practice. Either you're calling all those customers liars, or you're defending dishonest business dealings; that's exactly what a tool of something would do, as I was pointing out.
Since you've given zero pause to any of the legit criticisms of LRG, and are still shaming those of us who continue to bring awareness to the ongoing issues with this company and their practices, it's fair game to offer an impression of you; "SQUAK! 🦜 LRG PERFECT! LRG ALWAYS RIGHT! SQUAK!" 🦜
@Lightsiyd @Purgatorium @Mattock1987 @Fizza @ZZalapski @cmlobue I absolutely love all the shots at "JP Mandel" occurring in this thread. 🤣 🤣 You fine individuals all win this thread! 👏 🏆
@Pak-Man Getting stuff isn't the issue, it's waiting upwards of a year that' is one valid criticism.
Also, multi-billion dollar publishers shouldn't be using a company founded on getting indie games to retail. Some of their other products are also not as advertised (3DO copies of "D", Scott Pilgrim) , plus being partnered with Embracer Group is not good.
@LadyCharlie That's very dishonest. There are multiple, fair, legitimate reasons to criticize LRG. You either don't care, or choose to keep your head in the sand. The long wait times, the increasing reliance on established IPs from MB$ publishers, using low-quality CD-Rs for 3DO games, Scott Pilgrim requiring an online check, oh and they're also owned by Embracer Group, the literal worst gaming company in the industry.
At this point, after all this, you're a tool of LRG. 🤷♂️
@DTFaux I wouldn't view AI tools like ChatGPT as a "culture war" "issue"; unlike most of "that" hyperbolic nonsense that isn't worth the time of day, AI is an actual tool, a useful one at that, and now that it exists, that isn't a cat that can be put back into its bag at all, regardless of the subset of people who cry hysterically about it. 💼❌🐈
