I just took a ride on Amtrak last month. They're heavily over-selling how comfortable things are. Much roomier than being on a plane, but with only one power outlet to be shared by two seats per row and the horrid state of the restrooms on the train... it leaves a bit to be desired.
My friends and I played Secret of Mana together on SNES back when it was new, and it's still one of our fondest memories. Felt great being able to treat my kids to that experience years later. Co-op adventures and RPGs are some of the best ways to bond... my daughter and I used to love playing Diablo III together, my son and I bonded over Salt and Sanctuary... the world needs more opportunities for couch co-op because Nintendo had it right. Playing together in the same room is the best way to do it.
Yeah, I enjoyed it too. One could do a lot worse when looking for a new MV to play. If you're sick of the genre, this game won't change your mind but if you love them (and I do), it's a fine addition to your library.
Played this on Steam. It's pretty fun. Not terribly long or challenging, but enjoyable through and through. I liked how you can be a little creative with how you build your play style with the sigils.
As an avid anime watcher, I do get bored with the high school setting, although I completely understand. As it was said, it's something just about everyone can identify and empathize with. Maybe a spin-off or a smaller game could explore it from another angle. I think there's a lot of storytelling potential for a middle-aged parent or burnt-out office worker dealing with some measure of Persona/SMT-related stuff.
I tried the demo for UO and I felt it wasn't for me, despite being visually stunning. I usually love strategy games but just as I didn't appreciate Ogre Battle back in the 16-bit days, it's not my kind of game... although I could see myself buying UO just to have access to the beautiful art. Vanillaware delivers like none other when it comes to the art and character designs.
It would be nice if they deign to port Dragon's Crown to Switch. It was on Vita and PS3/4... Muramasa was on Vita and Wii... they could do it and I'm sure it would find new life.
I enjoyed it enough on Vita to get to the endgame (eliminated my character's 'sentence' and all) but after a while, it did start to feel repetitive. I enjoyed my time with it though. Will I buy the remaster...I'm on the fence.
I haven't played it and probably won't, because the nature of a beat-em-up is that it has a variety of characters that play differently, and that doesn't seem to be the case here. It sounds like all the characters are basically just palette swaps. I get why that is when it comes to Power Rangers--wouldn't want a kid to not want to play as their favorite Ranger just because they might be too slow or too weak--but as a beat-em-up game it could have benefited to mix the characters up a bit.
Sounds like a fine Rangers homage, but a lackluster brawler.
It's not for me (those anime tropes are too cringe for my tastes these days) but I appreciate that games like this exist. It's inspiring to see a nice short game developed in a relatively brief time for a low price tag that delivers a polished experienced...very inspirational for indie developers.
I was a naysayer about the DS at first myself. Loved the Game Boy line, and especially the Game Boy Advance. When the PSP came out, I considered it the 'spiritual successor' to the GBA and wasn't interested in the ugly 'phat' DS when it came out. But then the Lite came along and I gave it a try...my gaming life forever changed. I liked my PSP, but it became the device I watched movies at work with while my DS became my main game system for many years. Loved that thing...happy anniversary.
I played the Game Boy games (in fact, the Final Fantasy Legend series were the first handheld RPGs I ever played and the games that solidified my love of handheld gaming in the first place) but I haven't kept up with the SaGa series at all since then. I always thought they sounded a bit too 'different' from the norm for my RPG tastes. I had no idea there were so many of them... I might want to look into a few with fresh eyes and thoughts.
I don't hate the Nitro Deck I have. When my Joy-Cons quit on me, I ran across a half-price sale for one of their models and it's... fine. Not too uncomfortable for me. But am I a huge enough fan of their work that I'd chase some FOMO-fueled high for their so called collectibles? Nah.
Welp...I hadn't gotten around to playing the full game yet, but I enjoyed the demo. The game seemed like it had great potential to be a huge hit, but it was probably hampered by Ubisoft's many other issues (making folks who would normally buy choose not to just to not support the company) and I think there was some issue with a launcher being required? I don't really follow things that closely.
I played the demo. It's okay, nothing too groundbreaking. Not the kind of game I'd move to the top of my wishlist, but I'd add it to my library as something to play between bigger titles.
This caught my eye at first, and the character design and animated trailers were really great, then I looked at the gameplay and realized I just don't want to play one of those games where every element is so dang small. 30XX does a nicer job of combining Mega Man X-style action with roguelite gameplay while looking clearer visually. I just don't get why the on screen characters and elements can't be a little larger, a little more expressive and retain the tight-knit action that these kinds of games go for.
I'm sure it's well made, just not for me after all.
I have never heard of Yars Revenge so I have no nostalgia or past connection to what this game was inspired by, but the protagonist is adorable looking and the gameplay sounds fun, and MVs are my favorite kinds of games these days... so I think I'll give it a go.
Played the mess out of the original when I was a kid. I felt the characters had a bit of a sluggish feel in the demo, but nothing I couldn't get used to. And the visuals are incredible. I'll be getting it.
That was fun, I actually decided to answer all the questions. I guess folks just love sharing their opinions in some way which is what makes polls so attractive.
I would like the Switch 2 to be powerful enough to shut up all the people saying the Switch isn't powerful enough. Plenty of great, well-performing games have been made for the console but it's never enough for some folks... if it can be akin to a portable PS4 or better--like the Steam Deck--and maintain physical media, I see little reason why Nintendo's next hardware won't print money the way the Switch does now.
And they really need to fix the E-shop. It performs horribly and doesn't do a very good job of highlighting actual good games. It needs some sort of rating system so the cream can rise to the top instead of seeing the bombardment of cheap shovelware that gets added every week.
@Yalloo watch YouTube on the DuckDuckGo browser. It has a special "Duck Player" that lets you watch YT videos with nothing but the video. No like buttons, no ads, no comments, and you can just click a button to go to the normal page if you want to give the creator a like, comment, etc.
I played lots of these (beat far fewer of them), and can confirm that MHGU will absorb you for ages if you let it. My final time before I moved on was over 600 hours.
If it's technically sound and priced fairly enough, I'd give it a go. Sure, it's not that original, but it doesn't look offensively derivative either. It's just another game in the sea of games, and sometimes that's enough.
Kind of interested, but those prices for these kinds of side scrollers seems a bit high. But it's WayForward work... yeah, that's going to be hard to resist.
I had a great time with this on my Steam Deck. Didn't even know it was coming to Switch. I saw everything I needed to in about eleven hours, but it was a fun time while it lasted.
Pioneer of the indie gaming scene that it was, that ship has long since sailed and far more interesting games have been made since then. Sometimes a game is just great for when it came out and a remaster/remake/re-whatever isn't going to set the world on fire.
I enjoyed this article. Reading Nintendo Power is what got me started with my love of playing and making games and the maps that accompanied so many reviews was probably the number one reason. Inspired me to doodle up my own game designs when I was a kid. VGMaps is one of my favorite sites too.
At this point there isn't much I'd play on Switch if it's available for Steam and works on the Deck (and I play mostly indies, so that's pretty much everything I'd want) unless it's a game I really want physical, and I can't think of anything.
I started following the dev on Twitter recently and saw he was referring to some game called FA but it's only now I know what it is (I didn't really do my research). From his posts, he's really passionate about his work but isn't having the best of success. I hope this positive review gets things going in the right direction. The game looks and sounds compelling; I'm going to give it a try.
@canaryfarmer you nailed what I was thinking. It's so much Metroid-derived that it just feels like a lifeless mishmash, even with the creative aspect. And I hate lazy main character design in games.
I've played enough of these games that I'm used to the quirks, and I enjoyed the demo, so I am definitely going to add this to the library ASAP. The real time portion of battling is severely underdeveloped but it also could have not been there at all, so it's a nice touch.
Basically talking out of my behind here, but I had a thought... I'm no industry insider, but I would think even if a dev team isn't immediately revealed to the public, they still get credit for the work that they can add to their CVs and resumes and such, so the dev team being openly credited right away isn't as big a deal as it might seem. Perhaps the media is less important in this regard.
These are all great games. I've played them way too heavily to invest in the collection, but anyone who wants to enjoy some classic platformers can do far worse.
@gabrigoes most Ys games are completely standalone though. There are loose connections, but the stories in each don't require any real understanding of adjacent games to enjoy them.
I'm glad to see my favorite game series enjoying such success. I believed in it ever since Gamespot gave Monster Hunter Freedom a 5 score (or something like that) and the user reviews exploded with 8-10s. Sided with the users and have enjoyed every game in the series I managed to get my hands on, including over 600hrs in Rise/Sunbreak.

Yeah, I enjoyed it too. One could do a lot worse when looking for a new MV to play. If you're sick of the genre, this game won't change your mind but if you love them (and I do), it's a fine addition to your library.
