Re: Nintendo's Switch 2 Announcement Reportedly Impacted Steam Deck Sales

Donutman

@progx the most I have done with any game is look up the best graphic settings for baldurs gate 3 because when playing on the tv, there was so much shine to everyone’s hair i had to do something. Outside that, I use my Xbox and my pro controller and to play everything on my tv, or just play it on the go with no issues. I’m sure the legion go is better, but I have no complaints with mine and it gets more use then my ps5 and its portal, combined. Sadly I think I’ve played more playstion games on steamdeck then on my ps5 the last 2 years too.

Re: Nintendo's Switch 2 Announcement Reportedly Impacted Steam Deck Sales

Donutman

My steamdeck has been a nice bridge between my switch and whatever was next, switch 2. The last 2-3 years of it, my switch has been my secondary console. It is dockable and you can use any controller. So for less then $500, you get an upgraded switch that had access to years of my already purchased pc games. I admit I can’t wait to get a switch 2, but I bet a lot of the games that aren’t 1st party, I’m already paying on the go, like bg3 and rdr2 at the moment.
It’s also a portable ps4/5.so I don’t know why anyone doesn’t have one.

Re: Nintendo: Switch 2's Backwards Compatibility Feature Is The "Best Direction" For Consumers

Donutman

This is by far the way of the future. I am have playing steam games for like 20 years. Most of my library is still playable today, via my steamdeck. I only bought a ps5 because of the amount of games I carried over to it from previous generations, and have access to while using portal. I will be upgrading all of the switches in my house for the next 8 years of gaming for the family. And hopefully this continues…

Re: Get Ready For More 'Dave The Diver' Games In The Future

Donutman

I wanted to like this, but it just wasnt for me. I love the kingdom series and after several hundred hours of those games, thought this might pull me away as my casual gaming fix. Nope, even just picked up the Olympus expansion the other day, probably play it this weekend.

Re: Feature: 10 Years Ago, Nintendo Launched The Very Best 3DS

Donutman

I had the original ds, then 3ds for years. Then one of my sons friends let me hold a 3dsxl and I bought one the next day. Then, day 1 purchase of xenoblade and the n3dsxl. The ds family was my favorite set of consoles until the switch. Now I just wish I could have like 3 more 3ds games moved to switch, like Metroid 2 remake and Zelda lbtw. Then Add in Zelda tp and I’ll never need another console in my life

Re: 36 Longest Switch Games Worth Playing To The End

Donutman

@Lizuka I just don’t understand the hate totk gets. I admit it took me a while to beat, and will doubly put as any hours into it as I did botw, but I don’t see how it isn’t better in every way. I built only enough to accomplish whatever needed. I loved exploring the wells and will me going back to find them all, bosses randomly underground in villages etc…
I am burnt out of playing most pf these games in general. Open world rpg is too common and they all require to many hours to beat. I couldn’t finish spider man 2, baldurs gate 3, totk all last year…not to mention the many other random games I play. I miss the 35 hour Zelda games. Right now I’m 71 hours into Elden ring, I haven’t hit a wall, have no idea what I’m doing, but keep playing. I don’t like looking stuff up, but I know I wont finish it before I move into Star Wars outlaws for a while until Zelda releases. I think that is totk real issue, saturation/fatigue of the market.

Re: Review: Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition (Switch) - Speed-Focused And Slight, But Addictive

Donutman

@Teksetter my kids are the same, they love Mario, modern Mario games. But smb3 or smw, they are too hard for a 5 year old to enjoy. However, Mario maker, or any 3D Mario has spoiled kids of today.
Mario maker has been a hit in my house with everyone just because it is what it is, any kind of Mario game experience you could want.
I will be getting nes champ because we still use our Wii U and they enjoyed remix.

Re: Nintendo Adds Multiple Upcoming Releases To Its Switch Voucher Program

Donutman

And people wonder why Nintendo is asking $60 for dk country or Mario rpg. Just buy the vouchers and get totk for $50. Or wait a year or 2 for the only sale Nintendo does, 33% off.
With people paying $5 for a skin on a free to play game. I don’t like digital, but I also love that my steamdeck plays half life from like 20 years ago. Switch could be that as well.

Re: 'Tales Of Kenzara: Zau' Director Addresses "Constant Targeted Harassment"

Donutman

I play video games to escape reality. I do not need political, religious, personal beliefs from the developers put into my games. I do not care if I play a man or woman, what color they are, I just care if it’s a good game. How many games do we play as an animal, I guess that’s a PETA issue. If you want to involve yourself in these types of discussions, then you are the issue.

The more lines we have up infront of us, the more divided we are.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Define 'Retro'?

Donutman

Anything post n64, ps1 is not retro and I will never classify it that way. Once online gaming came to consoles, they are not retro. Xbox, ps2, gc…are not retro.
As a gamer who had an Atari growing up, I think this is a good line to divide modern/retro.

Doesn’t mean that there are not retro games developed today, just that consoles stopped being retro during that time.

Re: Talking Point: Which Games Were Just The Perfect Length?

Donutman

I think botw and totk are good example of how to do a modern sandbox open world game. You can breeze the story in pretty much as little time as you want, but put hundreds of hours into the world if you want. I have not finished several other games this year, despite putting 50+ hours into them.

Re: Soapbox: Where The Heck Is Fallout 3 On Switch?

Donutman

Considering I’ve only played this and 4, this was my favorite and I’d rebuy it instantly on switch. I only recently played 4 and ran into problem I do with most of this gen’s games, 40-50 hours in and I’m burnt out and haven’t touch the story. End up going back in a year or 2 to finish. Too many games coming out and they all too long.
My fan boy side prob shows, but atleast I can say that both botw and totk have stories that you can play as quick as you’d like, or do as much side quests…so I beat totk after 35 hours, 30 of which was first month, and then went back to finish this past winter. Now I’ve also racked up another 30 hours since just playing the side quests whenever. I try to muscle my way through fallout 4 (and recently rdr2) but they just too long. I’ve moved onto a replay of the mass effect series, 1-3, and am like 20 hours in and we shall see…

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Xbox's Grounded For Switch?

Donutman

These survival craft games I want to like but always end up feeling too much like work in a game that I only played like 3 hours of this on my steamdeck and deleted it. Sadly this is the story for too many games in this genre…7 days to die, project zombies are others I’ve tried to get into recently.

Re: Every Game In Nintendo's 'Partner Spotlight' eShop Sale (North America)

Donutman

@TCKuma however, since that post, my friend convinced me to pick up rainbow six siege since “it’s what we all playing”, and a backbone to play my Xbox and iPhone which after testing, works great through my WiFi. Going to try via data while my truck gets a service this morning. I have fully embraced portable gaming, my steamdeck works with my pc the same way, and of course there are multiple switch’s in my house

Re: Talking Point: What Would Make You Happy To Give Up Physical Games And Go 100% Digital?

Donutman

Being a 40+ year old gamer that has been mainly a pc/Nintendo gamer…my entire steam library I have is still playable today. It’s all digital, and with a steamdeck, mostly portable as well. iPads are no different. But home gaming consoles are not like this yet…but they are getting there.
Also, paying for the service of psn/xbox and now Nintendo is dumb when I don’t pay for it on my pc.

Re: Contra: Operation Galuga Gets Release Date, Free Demo Out Now

Donutman

Been looking forward to this. My kids love mechextermination force and are playing it right now. I love that contra is going to be 4 player, since there are 3 of us who love to play these games. I just hope there is an option for easy and brutal difficulty. Even if it is just extra lives via a cheat code

Re: Soapbox: I Hated Metroid: Zero Mission At First, Until I Loved It

Donutman

As a kid, I played Metroid 2 on my gameboy countless times. Then super came along and it blew me away at how awesome. I had a hard time with the prime games at first, since I skipped them until they were Wii and I was so used to the 2d games. Now, Metroid is one of my most loved series, I’ve played every one atleast once, and even other m has had some love over the years. Other m I beat 100/0% and really only wish it was more Metroid exploration, and you could skip the terrible cutscenes.

Re: Random: Skipping Zelda: TOTK's Great Sky Island Tutorial Is Possible, With The Right Glitches

Donutman

@quinnyboy58 I don’t want to agree with this but I partly do as well. Totk feels like it could have come out sooner as a paid dlc. But I feel this way about a lot of sequels that really don’t do anything that evolves the series like Zelda games usually do. I was use spider man as an example. I really enjoyed the 1st, but miles morales and now spider man 2 don’t feel deferent enough.
Last complaint about totk, the dungeons I want are more like twilight princess, skyward sword. Traditional Zelda. Totk is a great game, and the caves/wells are worth exploring as a game alone, but I just go t have time for the 200 hours games like that demand, so I beat the story and moved on, 75 or so hours compared to the 400 in botw. Maybe they will release dlc/hereo mode, and I’ll replay it, but I’ve moved on

Re: Don't Expect A Remake Of Final Fantasy 6 Soon, If Ever

Donutman

I will never play the ffvii remake just because it will tarnish the nostalgic memories and how it was a near perfect experience that did not need what they are doing to it. It will be how many years before we can see that story to the end, and then they thinking about doing same thing again to another game.

Re: Round Table: Let's Talk About Palworld - Comparisons, Controversy, 'Copying'

Donutman

I do think this crosses the line as to how nothing is really, truly original…but people can still create original stories/games/music, art etc…. This game is on the side of 0 attempts trying anything original. I can see why people think AI made the game, it looks as if someone just asked ChatGPT to make a game for them and this is what it came up with.

Even if it is not AI generated stuff, then I still give it a 0 for any attempt at trying to be original.
