Re: 'Tales Of Kenzara: Zau' Director Addresses "Constant Targeted Harassment"

Donutman

I play video games to escape reality. I do not need political, religious, personal beliefs from the developers put into my games. I do not care if I play a man or woman, what color they are, I just care if it’s a good game. How many games do we play as an animal, I guess that’s a PETA issue. If you want to involve yourself in these types of discussions, then you are the issue.

The more lines we have up infront of us, the more divided we are.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Define 'Retro'?

Donutman

Anything post n64, ps1 is not retro and I will never classify it that way. Once online gaming came to consoles, they are not retro. Xbox, ps2, gc…are not retro.
As a gamer who had an Atari growing up, I think this is a good line to divide modern/retro.

Doesn’t mean that there are not retro games developed today, just that consoles stopped being retro during that time.

Re: Talking Point: Which Games Were Just The Perfect Length?

Donutman

I think botw and totk are good example of how to do a modern sandbox open world game. You can breeze the story in pretty much as little time as you want, but put hundreds of hours into the world if you want. I have not finished several other games this year, despite putting 50+ hours into them.

Re: Soapbox: Where The Heck Is Fallout 3 On Switch?

Donutman

Considering I’ve only played this and 4, this was my favorite and I’d rebuy it instantly on switch. I only recently played 4 and ran into problem I do with most of this gen’s games, 40-50 hours in and I’m burnt out and haven’t touch the story. End up going back in a year or 2 to finish. Too many games coming out and they all too long.
My fan boy side prob shows, but atleast I can say that both botw and totk have stories that you can play as quick as you’d like, or do as much side quests…so I beat totk after 35 hours, 30 of which was first month, and then went back to finish this past winter. Now I’ve also racked up another 30 hours since just playing the side quests whenever. I try to muscle my way through fallout 4 (and recently rdr2) but they just too long. I’ve moved onto a replay of the mass effect series, 1-3, and am like 20 hours in and we shall see…

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Xbox's Grounded For Switch?

Donutman

These survival craft games I want to like but always end up feeling too much like work in a game that I only played like 3 hours of this on my steamdeck and deleted it. Sadly this is the story for too many games in this genre…7 days to die, project zombies are others I’ve tried to get into recently.

Re: Every Game In Nintendo's 'Partner Spotlight' eShop Sale (North America)

Donutman

@TCKuma however, since that post, my friend convinced me to pick up rainbow six siege since “it’s what we all playing”, and a backbone to play my Xbox and iPhone which after testing, works great through my WiFi. Going to try via data while my truck gets a service this morning. I have fully embraced portable gaming, my steamdeck works with my pc the same way, and of course there are multiple switch’s in my house

Re: Talking Point: What Would Make You Happy To Give Up Physical Games And Go 100% Digital?

Donutman

Being a 40+ year old gamer that has been mainly a pc/Nintendo gamer…my entire steam library I have is still playable today. It’s all digital, and with a steamdeck, mostly portable as well. iPads are no different. But home gaming consoles are not like this yet…but they are getting there.
Also, paying for the service of psn/xbox and now Nintendo is dumb when I don’t pay for it on my pc.

Re: Contra: Operation Galuga Gets Release Date, Free Demo Out Now

Donutman

Been looking forward to this. My kids love mechextermination force and are playing it right now. I love that contra is going to be 4 player, since there are 3 of us who love to play these games. I just hope there is an option for easy and brutal difficulty. Even if it is just extra lives via a cheat code

Re: Soapbox: I Hated Metroid: Zero Mission At First, Until I Loved It

Donutman

As a kid, I played Metroid 2 on my gameboy countless times. Then super came along and it blew me away at how awesome. I had a hard time with the prime games at first, since I skipped them until they were Wii and I was so used to the 2d games. Now, Metroid is one of my most loved series, I’ve played every one atleast once, and even other m has had some love over the years. Other m I beat 100/0% and really only wish it was more Metroid exploration, and you could skip the terrible cutscenes.

Re: Random: Skipping Zelda: TOTK's Great Sky Island Tutorial Is Possible, With The Right Glitches

Donutman

@quinnyboy58 I don’t want to agree with this but I partly do as well. Totk feels like it could have come out sooner as a paid dlc. But I feel this way about a lot of sequels that really don’t do anything that evolves the series like Zelda games usually do. I was use spider man as an example. I really enjoyed the 1st, but miles morales and now spider man 2 don’t feel deferent enough.
Last complaint about totk, the dungeons I want are more like twilight princess, skyward sword. Traditional Zelda. Totk is a great game, and the caves/wells are worth exploring as a game alone, but I just go t have time for the 200 hours games like that demand, so I beat the story and moved on, 75 or so hours compared to the 400 in botw. Maybe they will release dlc/hereo mode, and I’ll replay it, but I’ve moved on

Re: Don't Expect A Remake Of Final Fantasy 6 Soon, If Ever

Donutman

I will never play the ffvii remake just because it will tarnish the nostalgic memories and how it was a near perfect experience that did not need what they are doing to it. It will be how many years before we can see that story to the end, and then they thinking about doing same thing again to another game.

Re: Round Table: Let's Talk About Palworld - Comparisons, Controversy, 'Copying'

Donutman

I do think this crosses the line as to how nothing is really, truly original…but people can still create original stories/games/music, art etc…. This game is on the side of 0 attempts trying anything original. I can see why people think AI made the game, it looks as if someone just asked ChatGPT to make a game for them and this is what it came up with.

Even if it is not AI generated stuff, then I still give it a 0 for any attempt at trying to be original.

Re: Poll: How Much Internal Storage Would Be Reasonable For 'Switch 2'?

Donutman

It doesn’t matter, it won’t be big enough and you will run out of space and have to start juggling what you want downloaded. My steamdeck with its 1tb still can only hold so much when baldurs gate 3 takes 137gb. My switch is no different. Since the n64 days, I’ve been deleting saves to free up blocks and that will never change. Every device I’ve ever had, pcs too, run out of storage and either you need to upgrade, or start deleting.

Re: Talking Point: What Game Do You Wish You Could Forget?

Donutman

Dark souls. If I never played that game, I would have prob 10000 hours back. Had to sell my ps3 to stop myself, end up buying a new one for ds2. Had to get ds3 on ps4. Played both those, a bunch of eldin ring, blood borne, but still keep coming back to ds1. With it on switch, it’s been a right of passage for my kids as they get older. 2of my 4 still play it and we just finished playthroughs over Xmas break.2 more kids who haven’t even played it yet. I couldnt care less about any sequels, ds1 is the best game ever.
Botw would prob be the next in this list, but no co op hurts…

Re: Soapbox: "Go Outside, Get Some Fresh Air" - Why Won't Outmoded Gamer Stereotypes Die?

Donutman

As someone in their 40s, been a gamer my whole entire life….have seen exactly why this stereotype exists. I still have friends that fit in this while I have wife/kids/career while they still live at home with their parents…in their 40s. I could say I have multiple cousins in their 20s who still live at home and spend more time in virtual worlds then in the real one. This has been a challenge as my kids get older to have gaming not be their life, but be a part of it. I tell them if it’s going to be their life, then get a job in the industry.

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Go Another Year Without A Switch Successor?

Donutman

@JaxonH I’m going to add that I’ve recently started putting games like gow and spider man on my pc, but playing them through my steamdeck via WiFi. Works fine for single player. But I agree, steamdeck/switch is the best gaming combo since it was always pc/nintendo____ over the years. But my switch stole most of my gaming these past couple years, and now I can’t stop playing my steamdeck

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Go Another Year Without A Switch Successor?

Donutman

I would love to see a switch 2.0 that is exactly what we want, just a more powerful switch with backwards compatibility. I think Nintendo’s biggest mistake was holding the Wii U back maybe 2 years longer then it should have just bevause the Wii sales were still going strong. If the Wii U came out 2 years prior, it could been so different. I hope Nintendo doesn’t wait too long before releasing its next gen console. My steamdeck has quite a backlog after just over a year of having it, and I barely touch my switch now.

Re: Talking Point: What Was The Best Switch Moment Of 2023?

Donutman

2023 was the first year since launch that my switch took a back seat. I played mostly games on my steamdeck and little on switch. Totk, Metroid, and Pikmin would be my only real time sinks that came out. Great year for all gaming, but I do think it’s time for a newer Nintendo console. Just upgrade the switch and keep doing what they been doing.

Re: Oh Dear, Contra: Operation Galuga's Physical Edition Is A Download Code In A Box

Donutman

I’m sorry everyone, but digital is going to be the future. Unless everyone stops paying subscription services for games/movies, which is were the bulk of gaming money is going, why would a dev want to support wasting time/money on physical stuff when they make near nothing from it. This game will be on gamepass or whatever and the devs will make more from that deal then they could selling a few physical games.
I will only be getting g this game day 1 if it’s priced cheap or as soon as it gets a sale. I don’t pay full price for something I only own. You are only renting it.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Like To See More Streaming Media Apps On 'Switch 2'?

Donutman

I’m fine with my switch for gaming and my iPhone/pad for everything else. Still going to have both devices, why waste resources on the apps for switch. But that’s me, until my switch is really an iPhone but Nintendo branded, I’ll need both devices since I don’t game on smartphones.
That being said, I am happy my Xbox play dvds since it’s used more for that then gaming. I guess if my tv wasn’t a smart one, I’d need the apps on my Xbox but even before that, I always had a Roku player.

Re: Reaction: What's Your Gut Feeling On The Zelda Movie News?

Donutman

It’s one of those where no matter how good it turns out, how can you take hundreds of hours or story/lore spanning decades, and condense it into a 2 hour hollywood movie that captures the essence of the series??
I’m approaching it with cautious optimism:)

I did enjoy the uncharted movie, but that series was already an action movie. So it was the onscreen chemistry of the lead actors that made it so good. Link doesn’t talk…so…

Re: Metal Gear Solid's Launch Trailer Is Full Of Love And Hugs

Donutman

These are just like a lot of complaints people have on gaming nowadays and nobody talks about…if you can’t get into the story, the same gameplay over and over, it makes it hard to enjoy playing every game in the series.
I bought Spider-Man because n my steam deck. Played like 30 hours. Haven’t beat it. Bought miles morales, played maybe 10 hours since the gameplay is pretty much same. Dont care about story in either enough to finish. Why do I need spider man 2?

Sadly, this is also where I stand after 50 hours of totk, and also 400 hours botw(100% master mode etc…). I’ll never beat totk in the same way I did botw, burnt out of this open world genre. I am actually happy to hear assassins creed may have learn something.

Re: Poll: What's Your Switch Controller Of Choice For Super Mario Bros. Wonder?

Donutman

I will be buying a snes controller just for myself to play this. The pro controller is just fine, but I miss the simplicity of only having buttons that you need and not the bulkiness. And there is going to be many years of this game being played in my house. With 4 boys and myself, we have multiple files going. We haven’t beat it yet, but I bet we have like 50 hours since Friday.
