@Dev-N "Nice that she’s actually called a princess."
I caught that as well. It got me questioning if she's ever actually been referred to as one before, but...I don't think they have. It's pretty weird on Nintendo's part considering she's part of the princess trio.
I guess lore/story-wise in the games, she's not technically a princess of something, unlike Peach and Daisy who both come from actual kingdoms. Maybe that's why? I'm guessing the movie is going to have her be the ruler of some Luma kingdom or something
More "Mary Sue" Peach and now apparently... Rosalina as well? Whew.
Rosalina being powerful WOULD have been interesting and cool, if they hadn't already done the exact same thing with Peach. Why even have Mario and Luigi in the movie if those two can apparently do anything with perfect, flawless execution?
Such boring Hollywood-ified versions of their characters. Yes, I realize this sounds super negative, but the first movie's version of Peach was really generic imo
I hope they're scanning all of these pieces of artwork for an artbook release or something. I've always wanted high res versions of Toriyama's work on Chrono Trigger in one place
So NONE of the launch titles were made for Switch 2 at first. Yikes. The way things are going, this might be a "Wii U generation" for me, where I skip it entirely.
@riggah Double Dash has some minor problems, but it's still easily better than World. At this point, I'd say the only MK games worse than World are Super Mario Kart, Super Circuit, and Tour.
I mean, I don't think review bombing with 0's or 1's is acceptable, but the game is probably only a 6.5 or 7 tbh. It's the most mediocre MK (gameplay-wise) in decades imo and I think a LOT of people are already having the honeymoon phase wear off.
It has way too many issues in its current state for it to be considered better than any MK game post-Super Circuit.
Not owning a Switch 2, I'm curious to know if the NSO NES controllers are now incompatible with the console? They couldn't even be plugged in with USB-C like other controllers, so presumably they can't attach to the Switch 2 because they're not magnetic? Can anyone confirm?
It's hard to deny that the redesign fits the actual Mario aesthetic better than the old one, despite my love for all the old Rareware games and designs. I also just noticed that Diddy's eyes are no longer fused together lol. He looks pretty awesome, and I'm glad they didn't change much on him. I'm excited to see what other kongs are going to look like
Poor Grant. His work for Rareware and Nintendo is so GOATed and they didn't even have the decency to credit him for the iconic DK Rap. That's just sad.
@Metazoxan Sounds like this leaker was most likely a clout chaser then, as opposed to a game preservationist. Like you said, most leakers wouldn't release files that doxx employees. It's like this leaker just took everything they could find and leaked it all without a single thought behind what it might contain.
I don't necessarily hero worship leakers (because I know a bunch of them ARE just clout chasing), but I will always be sort of...thankful, I guess? Even if it wasn't their intention, they still did a great service for game preservationism. It's just a shame that the people behind it probably didn't even care about it to begin with
The leaker should have only leaked the game files/documents, not people's personal information. Putting actual employees at risk by leaking their e-mails, names, telephone numbers, etc, is just irresponsible and benefits no one. If the leak was just for game preservation, then I don't know why they would release that information
Still disappointed that the tracks in-between courses is a REQUIREMENT for Grand Prix. I just want to do 3 lap courses that aren't a straight line without need to do VS race or whatever.
Iwata and Reggie were really the ones keeping everything in line. They were always thinking and seeing things from a gamer's perspective, rather than just seeing dollar signs. I know Miyamoto is a legend for all he's contributed to Nintendo, but after listening to that Reggie interview, it just proves more and more that Miyamoto has mostly been a detriment for anything past the SNES era. He's got quite a large list of "sins". He's had far too many terrible inputs and suggestions over the years. It's actually more rare to find GOOD things he's contributed post-SNES lol
How can you be first in line when there is no "line" to begin with? At this point he's just a guy living on the streets in front of Nintendo's store. What's stopping someone from just going in front of him and claiming "first" in the already imaginary line? It's all just made up lol
People were already complaining about the normal price for the Switch 2, and now scalpers are going to artificially raise it even more? Anyone who buys from these scalpers might very well be lobotomized because I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would enable this scummy, low-life practice. Imagine a world where people had self-control and didn't buy from scalpers? Imagine how funny it would be for scalpers to spend all this money on products no one buys from them?
If there's no single player mode then I'm not playing this, simple as that. I'll write it off like I did with that Déraciné game he made as it required PSVR to play. He's one of my favourite game directors of all time, but it doesn't mean I need to play absolutely EVERY game he'll ever make.
Honestly, the thing I now find most disappointing about all this is that it means we might be waiting until at least 2027 to get a new game directed by him... that ISN'T Duskbloods. I sincerely hope it isn't the only game he's been working on because the wait will be so long otherwise.
I'm mostly surprised it looks so... SIMILAR to the original Switch. I guess I'm still not fully used to the Switch being a hybrid console because I was expecting a lot more variation like they did in the past with non-handheld systems. I suppose it's no different than GB to GBC, or DS to 3DS. Maybe it's a smart idea that they called it Switch 2 to avoid another "Wii U" situation; where people didn't even realize it was the next generation.
It being backwards compatible will also be a big selling point. Loved that about the Wii, DS Lite, and original 3DS. Bigger joycons is a huge plus as well because a lot of people I know say they can't stand using them due to how small they are. Love the magnetic attachment for them too. Much better than having to slide them in. I'm very interested in seeing what more the Switch 2 has to offer.
@Thomystic Yea, I agree that "annoying" is the better term lol. My hope overall is that 24 racers is a separate mode because I don't see a good reason for the change. If not, then I hope at least item distribution will be balanced differently to fit the new gameplay.
I'm also now wondering if courses will be much longer/larger as well? You'd think with that many racers that people would start getting lapped pretty easily.
Either way, I can get over DK's design change, but the gameplay is what worries me. Here's hoping that the proper showcase will do it all justice
Can't say I'm thrilled about the way it looks. It look graphically identical to MK8 and Donkey Kong's design was ruined despite being perfect ever since his DKC redesign. The Mario Movie already affecting the franchise in ways I feared it would...
Also not sure how I feel about 24 racers. MK was already chaotic enough with just 12. 24 feels like an unnecessary change. Hopefully the Direct in April can change my mind and bring my hype up but right now I'm not feeling much excitement at all tbh.
I'm good, I have emulators and ROMs. In a world BLOATED with subscription services, I'd rather save money and play games I've already owned before...but for free...and more accurately.
Nintendo has the better way of doing it. The retro games available through NSO are more like a bonus than the actual main feature of the service
If these leaks are actually real, seems like a dangerous move on Nintendo's part. Honestly, as long as they don't call it "Switch 2", then I don't think we'll have another Wii U situation on our hands, where people don't even realize it's a brand new console lol
@fenlix I mean, if that's what you want to use it for, go right ahead. I get wanting to emulate something to essentially overclock or mod it, but I don't think it means you shouldn't be buying the games either. But that's just me. I'd rather buy and play the games on the official hardware until support stops then later switch to emulation for after market stuff and general convenience.
I think emulation is extremely necessary for game preservation....BUT!...I think people should also only develop emulators once official support for the console has ceased. I honestly can't blame Nintendo for going after an emulator of their current console as it's really only serving as a method for piracy. If these emulator devs were smart, they would develop these in secret and only do a public release after the console support is over.
I mean...the person paid for the game, and is just playing how they want to. Whether you like it or not, they're not doing anything out of the legitimate bounds of the game or rules. Yea, it's extremely petty and unsportsmanlike, but unless someone's actually cheating/hacking, then I don't care how they play a game.
If their enjoyment is targeting one player, I can't even be mad. They have every right to do whatever the heck they want, just as I do. If someone you're playing with is making it so you're not having fun, then leave the match and start a new one with different players. Simple as that.
Also, making a salt post online about someone being "a menace" is only going to encourage their behavior more. You probably just inspired more people to do this kind of thing by bringing attention to their antics. Oh and look! Now there's an article on Nintendo Life about it! slow 👏 claps 👏
@EthanZack Just wanted to give you a heads up that the composer's name for the game is spelled incorrectly throughout the article! Her last name is "Shimomura", not "Shimamura".
It's like a Mario game, but without the soul or charm. Something about it looks too sterile and uninspired. Even the designs of all the robots just look like rip-offs of Eve from Wall-e lol.
It also has a very "corporate" feel, considering the game is packed with other Sony characters as robots. It's as if they felt it couldn't stand on its own and needed a bunch of references for the type of people who go "oh look! It's a reference! I'm freaking the heck out!! Aaaaaahhhh! wojak face"
So, not only are BotW and TotK in their own universe...but they don't even connect to each other. That explains why a lot of people were mad that TotK basically treated BotW as if it didn't happen. Makes me even more glad I didn't actually play TotK tbh. It feels more lazy than anything, and it explains why stuff like the Sheikah tech was completely missing from TotK.
BotW/TotK being in their own universes also explains why so many things don't legitimately make sense when considering previous games. For example, Sheikah being alive and Zora and Rito existing at the same time. I wouldn't be surprised if Echoes of Wisdom doesn't fit anywhere either considering Sheikah seem to be alive in that game too. Guess Aonuma decided he doesn't care about making games fit anywhere in the timeline anymore lol. Shouldn't have bothered connecting all the games only to abandon it later on
Very minor gripe, but why change Dampe from a gravekeeper to an inventor? Why even use Dampe at that point? That would be like putting Beedle in the game, but now he's a hardened blacksmith for no reason lol
I have nostalgic memories of following the Smash Bros DOJO every week during Brawl's development. It was always so exciting to see what would be announced next, even if it was something minor. It feels so long ago now, especially when you see that the posts are from 2007. Good times
These games are all fun and you don't REALLY need to know Japanese to play through them, but I'll never understand why they bother releasing any games untranslated on NSO.
Seems really lazy on Nintendo's part. It's like they don't actually care if you know what's happening in the game or not.
AI "art" has been nothing but a detriment to the world of digital art. It now plagues the internet and even floods search engines when trying to search for images.
I have yet to see a use for it that's an actual positive. Considering it requires plagiarism to work in the first place, I doubt there ever will be 😐
@Lofoten thanks for the detailed and informative response! ☺️ And yea, it's also been so long since I've seen Yooka Kaylee gameplay that I didn't even notice the new coins or gameplay changes that might have been in the trailer. Bizarre decision for them to not make it more clear when most people will see the trailer and come to the same conclusion I did.
I actually backed the game on the original Kickstarter and was super disappointed with the final product. I'll keep an eye on this as well in case they actually fix the core issues the original game had. Here's hoping that's the case!
@PineappleLake As unfortunate as it is, I have to agree. I was initially pretty excited about Peach getting a new game, but the gameplay for this looks so incredibly basic and boring.
I also HATE the voice direction that Peach's voice actress was given for this game. She sounds NOTHING like how she should in most instances in these trailers. The SMB movie really has started to taint parts of the Mario franchise as I feared it would.
@GarlicGuzzler I'm curious to know what kind of jobs people were being laid off from. Were they jobs the company deemed "unnecessary"? Or just cutting back on the amount of employees hired for the same positions?
Curious to know how much this would affect everyone's workload at these companies
Errr...I don't know why people aren't talking about it, but what's up with her voice?
Did peach get a new voice actress and I didn't notice? I've been playing SMB Wonder and she sounds a bit different, but here it's like a totally different voice.
Doesn't really sound like Peach tbh....but im also listening to this at a low volume through my phones speaker at work 🤣
Damn, this looks cool as hell! I love pre-rendered graphics and this looks as authentically PS1 as you can get. First time I've heard of this game but I'm super interested now.
I miss this type of art style and look so I'm glad to see people are still keeping it alive
By the sounds of it, using AI just to speed up the process of programming doesn't sound bad at all to me. For me, the issue would be if they started using it for art generation.
Is it too much to ask to want interesting unique NPCs, classic dungeons/bosses, and actual proper unbreakable items again? I'd take a linear Zelda EVERY single time if it meant we got that. It's not even a matter of nostalgia, I just think it makes the games more memorable and enjoyable.
It makes me sad knowing that as long as Aonuma remains the producer, we'll continue getting massive filler open worlds and NPC's that are just essentially random Mii faces.
My hype for new Zelda's used to be off the charts but the series has essentially become a shell of its former self since Skyward Sword (in my opinion). Fujibayashi being the director is also definitely one of the reasons for the massive change. The series doesn't feel like it's for me anymore, something I never thought I would ever be saying in my lifetime.
Yea...doesn't really seem fair to rush the acceptance speeches for non-english speakers. The speech is already going to be a bit longer in the first place due to needing a translator repeating what they say.
@ricklongo Yea, I'm not a fan of the art style. The color palette is also pretty ugly to me as well. I get what they're going for, which seems to be a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive look, but it just looks unappealing to me.
@JimNorman hahah, no worries! OoT being my favorite game of all time, I felt very passionate about getting those questions..."wrong" 😂 thanks for adjusting the quiz! I really enjoyed doing it!!
@FunGuy That's blatantly incorrect information. I'm surprised even Zelda Dungeon named it a Lizalfos. That's a Geru. Totally different enemies than Lizalfos. Question 13 is just plain wrong. https://zeldawiki.wiki/wiki/Geru#The_Adventure_of_Link
I also feel cheated about the song question. You don't "learn" the Scarecrow's Song. @JimNorman

Re: Microsoft Lays Off 1,900 Xbox, Bethesda And Activision Blizzard Employees
@GarlicGuzzler I'm curious to know what kind of jobs people were being laid off from. Were they jobs the company deemed "unnecessary"? Or just cutting back on the amount of employees hired for the same positions?
Curious to know how much this would affect everyone's workload at these companies
Re: Princess Peach: Showtime! Trailer Reveals Ninja Peach And Cowgirl Peach
Errr...I don't know why people aren't talking about it, but what's up with her voice?
Did peach get a new voice actress and I didn't notice? I've been playing SMB Wonder and she sounds a bit different, but here it's like a totally different voice.
Doesn't really sound like Peach tbh....but im also listening to this at a low volume through my phones speaker at work 🤣
Re: 'Alisa Developer's Cut' Channels PS1 Survival Horror In All The Right Ways
Damn, this looks cool as hell! I love pre-rendered graphics and this looks as authentically PS1 as you can get. First time I've heard of this game but I'm super interested now.
I miss this type of art style and look so I'm glad to see people are still keeping it alive
Re: Hideki Kamiya Hopes To Return To The Video Game Industry In 2024
Wasn't he behind Viewtiful Joe? I'd love to see him make some games for Capcom again
Re: Square Enix To Be "Aggressive In Applying" AI Going Forwards
By the sounds of it, using AI just to speed up the process of programming doesn't sound bad at all to me. For me, the issue would be if they started using it for art generation.
Re: Zelda Producer Responds To Fans Who Want A More "Traditional Linear" Adventure
Re: Random: The Game Awards Urged Eiji Aonuma To 'Wrap Up' Zelda Acceptance Speech
Yea...doesn't really seem fair to rush the acceptance speeches for non-english speakers. The speech is already going to be a bit longer in the first place due to needing a translator repeating what they say.
Re: Eiji Aonuma Comments On The Possibility Of A Playable Zelda In The Future
There's two games now that star Peach on top of all her other playable appearances.
Not sure why the possibility of a playable Zelda is such a big "maybe" all the time. Just create a spin off series like they have with Princess Peach.
Re: Meet The Bosses Of 'Penny's Big Breakaway' In Gorgeous Animated Trailer
@ricklongo Yea, I'm not a fan of the art style. The color palette is also pretty ugly to me as well. I get what they're going for, which seems to be a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive look, but it just looks unappealing to me.
At least the game looks like it'll be fun
Re: How Well Do You Know Zelda: Ocarina Of Time?
@JimNorman hahah, no worries! OoT being my favorite game of all time, I felt very passionate about getting those questions..."wrong" 😂 thanks for adjusting the quiz! I really enjoyed doing it!!
Re: How Well Do You Know Zelda: Ocarina Of Time?
@FunGuy That's blatantly incorrect information. I'm surprised even Zelda Dungeon named it a Lizalfos. That's a Geru. Totally different enemies than Lizalfos. Question 13 is just plain wrong.
https://zeldawiki.wiki/wiki/Geru#The_Adventure_of_Link
I also feel cheated about the song question. You don't "learn" the Scarecrow's Song.
