Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (20th September)

DennyCrane

Batman (NES) and maybe some Croc (Switch). Was considering perhaps starting to get to the end of Hollow Knight as save file been left for years now, but, too much running around in the game, so chose the above. Batman is a quick game to run through and have been meaning to replay Croc. Although, as of typing this, I have just decided to do a 100% completion, no death run on SMB3 and SMW with 40th anniversary here.

Re: Random: Wait, Is Donkey Kong Bananza's DLC Hiding A Neat Namco Easter Egg?

DennyCrane

Might just be a nod to Pac-Man as it released in 1980, with Donkey Kong releasing 1981. Both were absolute giants of the arcades, so this is just paying respect to what would have been competition/rivel at that point in time.
Games regularly give a nod to a game/company they respect, I imagine the same is here, either Nintendo as a whole or just developers/programmers.

Re: Nintendo Highlights Super Mario's Game History In 40th Anniversary Timeline

DennyCrane

@Max_the_German Mario Run is a Mario game (although not exactly his best), where as SMW2 is in name only to pull people into trying/buying it. It is a Yoshi game through and through. They did the same with Wario Land, calling it SML3 knowing people would more likely purchase it. Sneaky, maybe, but it prevented the crime of these games not being played as much as they deserve. Being left out is in an admittance to what they truly are, not Mario games.

Re: Nintendo Highlights Super Mario's Game History In 40th Anniversary Timeline

@Member_the_game Both great games. SML1 has looser physics than SMB1, but, is so flipping weird and unique it deserves at least one playthrough. Can be done in as little as 20mins once you know it and has a 'new game plus' after completion. Due to its short length I have replayed it countless times, I can hope on, have a full adventure in no time and walk away happy.
SML2 feels floaty to control, which can feel odd at first, but it is a great game that has some real odd moments and, indeed, enemies. Jason mask with a knife in the head stands out straight away. It's a much longer game, but can still be blasted through quickly and isn't very difficult at all. In fact the only challenge is at the end and I use the term challenge loosely.
Well worth the little time it will take for you to try them out.

Re: Opinion: Metroid Prime 4 Reminds Me Of Gears 5, And It's Making Me Nervous

DennyCrane

We have seen barely anything and what we have, we have absolutely no context for. That said, I wish I never watched it. It has me, perhaps completely unnecessarily so, concerned. I have loved this series since the NES, when I first saw those black, endless backgrounds after that incredible, foreboding title screen and up to this point I have felt nothing but hype for Beyond.
Truth is, it will very likely be amazing and as I've said, the concern is unnecessary. The first 2 trailers were amazing after all. But, the concern IS there and perhaps it's good it is. If this doesn't quite live up to standards or has some weird gameplay mechanic or design choice (open world) that feels out of place, at least I/we had expectations tempered beforehand.
Retro/Nintendo, we need a snippet more information asap!!!

Re: Review: Hollow Knight: Silksong - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Woven To Brutal Perfection

DennyCrane

8 out of 10. Beautiful and a very well crafted game. However, hated the diagonal slash, was pleased when I could say goodbye to it. Currency kinda of annoyed me. Some checkpoints still annoy me with distance from fights. Accessibility options would be good, perhaps 1lose per hit instead of 2, heard a number of fans of Hollow Knight that think difficulty is ramped up a little too much for their tastes.
Same as Hollow Knight, I'm beginning to tire of it now, so probably won't finish. It's very good, just as the first one, but I just like a shorter game and this game is made much longer due to having to repeat things and I feel done with it now.

Re: Opinion: I'm Celebrating Super Mario Bros.' 40th Anniversary By Finally Finishing It

DennyCrane

Dude, my pitchforks were not out because you didn't finish it, surprised maybe. My pitchforks are out because you reminded me that there was once a thing called Crazy Frog!!! Why would you do that?!

As for SMB, playing that on the NES upon it's release was just magical. Being the eldest, I was Mario on multiplier runs with my brother. Of course, nowadays, Luigi is this one who gets more love, but back than you HAD to be Mario.

Re: Round Up: Everything Announced For Super Mario's 40th Anniversary

DennyCrane

Was not a fan of the first Mario movie, felt too much like generic Illumination movie and less Nintendo. Hopefully this one will be better.
Honestly, I preferred the live action film, it was weird for sure, but it felt like its own thing and not like a bunch of other movies. I have grown fond of it over the years upon rewatches.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Finally Gets A Release Date, Open World Confirmed

DennyCrane

I really hope this isn't open world. Look forward to more information though. The more I think of the bike the more it just feels a little off. When it first started I thought it was MKW dlc, then as it went on I thought it was a cool little spin off and then the truth.
The direct as a whole makes me wish I didn't watch it, just felt meh when it finished

Re: Opinion: Silksong's Tight Construction Is Exactly What I Need After Too Much Open-World Loafing

DennyCrane

I far prefer I tightly structured game. It allows for a perfectly crafted experience that feels more focused on gameplay than plodding along for no reason than time wasting. Now that's certainly not slight against all open world games, whether 2D 0r 3D, there certainly are those that work beautifully, but so many just simply feel like what I'm doing for a large chunk of the time is pointless travelling that feels mundane and doesn't benefit the experience really. I gave up on the fast majority of open world games a while ago, sticking to those that are truly something special. My gameplay has consisted of mainly linear experiences and I'm much happier with my gaming time as a result. Games typically don't last as long, meaning I don't tire of them so quickly and less likely to put aside and never return and as I stated above, you get that perfectly crafted experience. The developers know how things are going to happen and as a result the moment to moment gameplay feels better, flows better and less likely to have those moments of boredom. Much like a perfectly edited movie.

Re: Talking Point: Is Hollow Knight: Silksong Too Difficult?

DennyCrane

I understand what people are saying, but i also see across other medias and a friends in US that love Hollow Knight, that are simply finding this to hard. I was on the phone yesterday to one, a huge Hollow Knight fan who has been eagerly awaiting this and has just been getting frustrated with it.
The talk of accessibility options as being a negative seems unfair to those that really need them. People have commented on artistic vision, but it wouldn't really be compromised so much, it would be compromised if players can't see what the game has to offer. Seems Team Cherry want people to enjoy and see the game fully, hence what they have done so far.
Film has subtitles and descriptive subtitles and audio description so that those of whom struggle can still enjoy the experience, even if not as originally intended. Books have audio versions, for those that don't have the time or indeed vision to sit and read but can still enjoy the story via it being read to them.
It's really sad to hear so much bitchiness to others from either side, it leaves a worse bitter taste in the mouth about Silksong than the subject at hand.

Re: Hollow Knight: Silksong's Upcoming Patch Will Nerf The Difficulty In Certain Areas

DennyCrane

@Athropos Because Hollow Knight and Silksong have a unique feeling and ambience about them, with stunning world and that is why people want to play it. They may not be competent enough or have the time to spend to keep repeating till they succeed, hence the desire for difficulty options. Options would in no way effect people like you, so there is no problem. What Team Cherry have done here is wrong, that does effect those that like it as it is.

Re: Hollow Knight: Silksong's Upcoming Patch Will Nerf The Difficulty In Certain Areas

DennyCrane

@user0 yep. I used to love hard games, but nowadays I am content to often play on an easier setting and if I like it enough to replay one day I will bump up the difficulty a little. I keep my difficult games to the likes of TMNT, Ninja Gaiden, Castlvania etc on the NES.
Also, not everyone is a competent gamer and can feel left out when they would like to experience a game that everyone is enjoying. Using an example, a friend of mine actually loved the look of Hollow Knight, but heard so much about it's difficulty he never bought it. You have to wonder how many people felt the same.
