Re: Switch 2 Sells Over 10 Million Units, Nintendo Increases Forecast Even Further

DennyCrane

@Striker21 Nintendo have a monstrous fan base with the young. Sure they love nostalgia, it works well for them, but they cater to the young and families alike. When the first generation of Nintendo lovers disappear there will always be the next generation and whilst catering to them they will be creating the new generation. Despite negativity that can surround the company for one reason or another, they know how to appeal to families, providing entertainment and joy to them. They will only fail when they stop producing endearing high quality games, which is something they pride themselves on. Even when experiments fail, whether games or hardware, they learn and come back stronger. They will be around a long, long time yet

Re: Feature: The Art I 'Stole' From Nintendo

DennyCrane

Great article. Really great.
Well done for all you did with the artworks, was heart-warming to read..
The ones you kept and framed, I do hope that the creators are still a fan of Nintendo's and see or hear of this article. That would be the icing on the cake to this all.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (1st November)

DennyCrane

After watching Interview with a Vampire (94), 30 Days of Night (07) and Dracula (92), I think I will spend some time on my favourite of a fangtastic (apologies) series, the one that started it all, the mighty Castlevania. Presuming I don't get the urge to move on to Simon's Quest after, I shall get my inner ninja loose with Hagane. It's been a while since I played through it and that game is soooo much fun.

Edit @Kingy @LightSpirit I see I am not the only one letting their inner ninja out

Re: Review: Luigi's Mansion (GameCube) - A Spooky Little Romp That Still Sucks You In

DennyCrane

@slowpoke_tail @KimBread
I think the problem is that it feels like it was made with a 3DMario mentality, where anything can go, any idea can be thrown into the pot and the whole will work, but that doesn't work with a LM game.
I know we will never get another game with the same feels as the original, which is a real shame, but I am fine with the cartoon ghost house as long as we see a return of a truly coherent design philosophy, instead of a disjointed group of ideas thrown together.

Re: Review: Luigi's Mansion (GameCube) - A Spooky Little Romp That Still Sucks You In

DennyCrane

@KimBread I was actually a bit heart broken with LM3, when it was announced I imagined a game like the first, but on a grander scale and the hotel setting was perfect, absolutely perfect. The idea of it all beautifully interconnecting and becoming one cohesive whole was tantalising to say the least.
But, it turned out very different. I actually struggled to finish it as the gameplay got tiresome in last third to quarter and shows that the shorter length of the first was a wise choice, with replayability being more of a focus.
I've said this before, but the third game also wasted ideas. I can't help imagine a LM game set in a pyramid or one like night at the museum etc etc Instead these ideas were wasted on gimmick levels and in reality that's just what they were, levels. It's not bad, just not the thing of beauty it could of been.
Still, I'm pleased it was loved by many and I can't be bitter, despite my disappointment, as I'll always have the first and that was and still is a mighty fine experience.

Re: Xbox Reiterates Its Support For Switch 2

DennyCrane

I love the Halo series and have been hoping for a long time to see them on Nintendo. Given the support Xbox showed the Switch, I think its a definitely coming and I cant wait. I have gone right of FPS since the end of the 360/PS3 era, focus on online multiplayer etc that I have zero interest in. Annoyingly I have had a real itch to play some over the last couple of years, but, unfortunately the ones released on Switch havent been my cup of tea, either Doom/Quake style which I have never been the biggest fan of or ones like Metro, new Doom etc which are too dark and gory for my tastes. I loved that late 90's to 2010 period where we got the darker ones for those that wanted it, but also some that just felt plain fun, using the Bond games across multi platforms and Halo etc as an example. So, yeah, really hoping/looking forward to these.
As for Xbox as a company, the best thing they could do is to forget their consoles, continue to branch out with various ways to play their games and put the resources into developing good games, investing in small companies and trusting them to deliver such as Ori. There is no shame in bowing out of the console market and reshaping yourself to deliver good content across multi platforms, it would be to the benefit of far wider audience of consumers, which is the best thing a company based on consumerism can do.
The interesting thing will be if another company steps forward to introduce a console, much like Microsoft did as Sega stepped away. But then perhaps the Steam Deck is slowly doing that anyway

Re: Anniversary: SNES Action RPG 'Terranigma' Is 30 Years Old Today, And It's Still A 10/10 In Our Book

DennyCrane

I adore the whole trilogy and have all 3 on my SNES Mini. I vastly prefer the action RPG to turn-based and the SNES had the best of all time, it's a shame we don't see more of them, other than a small handful most are turn-based (I'm speaking of 2D). I always thought that it would be great if RPG's offered you the choice at the start whether to be action or turn-based, I have only ever completed Chrono Trigger, every other turn-based I gave up on due to not enjoying the game mechanic. Obviously, action would lose out on some of the more spectacular effects etc, but for those that do not like turn-based but would love to experience the world and story, it would be an okay sacrifice. Using an example, Sea of Stars, I wanted to play that game so badly, the world just grabbed me, it was perfect for my tastes and from what I gather it had a great story too. Sadly, I will never get to experience it, if I bought it, I would get a couple of hours in and stop, whereas, if it option for action as well, perhaps a simplified magic system too, I'd have played through and been very happy. Still, can't please everyone and I accepted my fate to just admire screenshots of turn-based games a long time ago.

Re: Terminator 2D: No Fate Trailer Dives Into How You Can Change Key Movie Scenes

DennyCrane

Been really looking forward to this coming out.
Is it wrong I'd like to kill John with the T800? Better yet, can I just toss him to the T1000 with a "You and pretty boy here can sort this out yourselves" and then head off for a nice bike cruise whilst stealing myself a new winter wardrobe. Obviously, there is Sarah to think about, but I'm pretty sure she'll stay with John, which is not an issue really, she got pretty grumpy and mean after the first film and is a tiresome travel companion tbh.

Re: Poll: How Many New Games Do You Buy In A Year?

DennyCrane

This is surprising to be honest. I understand when it comes to full retail AAA games, but when you can pick up an indy or something for just a few pounds in a sale I would expect people to buy more than 2 a year. However, the question 'new game', are they referring to a brand new release or new to the player? If a brand new release I can understand but a new game to the player, well the results seem odd.
I didn't vote as a result. If referring to new release, then honestly, it's usually a first party Nintendo release, so this year Galaxies and Metroid Prime 4 on release and that's it (haven't as of yet picked up a Switch 2, waiting a little longer, although DK is calling me) as I know I will keep and replay them often. It's mainly the big 3 Nintendo IP's that have kept me gaming since PS3/360 era ended.
If referring to new to the player, then it would be much more. Digital sales and preferably cheap physical (new or second hand) I can play and then trade or sell on with little to no loss, then much higher.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Super Mario Galaxy + Galaxy 2?

DennyCrane

10, outstanding. . Whatever people may think of the price point, it can't take away from the sheer quality of the two games. 3D Mario at its most inventive peak. Sure, he isn't quite as nimble as 64, Sunshine, Odyssey, but it is a very different type of game and given the areas you are platforming in, it may have been awkward to have him perform like that. Again, a 10/10 or is that 20/10?

Re: Poll: So, Did You Get Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 For Switch?

DennyCrane

@Mgalens I hated it in Breath. Trying to do those things in handheld turned me into a contortionist, truly awful. You mentioned rolling ball shrine, well for me it was the ones where you had to turn the platforms, I had to hold my Switch upside-down over my head whilst twisting the Switch. I never did it with joy-cons detached, but I imagine it was a lot easier, but I prefer handheld.
As for Galaxies, Yoshi, when it comes to flower swing things, is the only bit I noticed it wasn't great with the gyro, but it wasn't bad, just not as good as it was. One bit took me 2 tries instead of doing straight away. As for the rest, small movements was enough and remember to press R to recentre when needed. Most of the time its just grabbing star bits anyway, pull stars are easy to grab, shooting stuff with Yoshi is easy etc. I mean, it's never gonna be as good as the Wiimote, whether you play on a TV or handheld, but it's as good as it can. Once you get the movements down, you'll be flying through the game like it's second nature. If/when you decide to pick up a copy, I hope you have a lot of fun, I certainly have.

Re: Poll: So, Did You Get Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 For Switch?

DennyCrane

@Mgalens Honestly, i love handheld mode. It is my preferred way to play them. I said above, you only need the slightest of movements with gyro. Yoshi is not as good as pointer, but really wasn't a problem. In galaxy 1, the sling star level, and 2 direct the blowing thing levels did feel better with touch screen, but thats only 3 occasions. The ball, manta and bird levels feel better with gyro, I just hold the R button to keep gyro centred, just in case. I have done 120 stars in Galaxy 2 so far and due to me using a Nexigo Gripcon, I played and 100% twice Mario Galaxy 1 on 3D All-Stars with gyro in handheld. If touchscreen was the only option, then it would suck, but it feels great, it really does. I really wouldn't want to go back to wii remote or indeed, joy-cons

Re: Poll: So, Did You Get Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 For Switch?

DennyCrane

@sketchturner Also, with Galaxy 1 I did find the direct the blowing section and the sling stars easier to use the stylus/touch screen, but thats it, so about 3 times. I would also advice, that when doing the Manta race or ball rolling section to just keep the R button pressed to keep gyro centred.
