Well, I can't now as I am just about to start Mr & Mrs Smith (1941), but I will absolutely play it tomorrow. For now, Happy Anniversary Operation C, you are a fine game
That is all well and good, but the only shooter I really want them to bring over is Halo. The Trilogy and Reach and I will be a very, very happy Denny Crane
@Twilite9 Zelda looks very different as well, the writing on it. Growing up with these and having the image ingrained on the mind it's easy to spot an abnormally.
I think much of the dialogue (all NPCs) in the game feels kind of cheap, but it is what it is and it hasn't soured the experience. However, calling on the radio was annoying and made worse knowing when you next need to look at your map you have to sit through a time waster. A simple option to toggle on/off would have been welcome
@JohnnyMind How you liking Zelda II?? It's a great game, with some quirks no doubt, but a great game none the less. If you are enjoying it you should try Battle of Olympus, it's like it and a lot of fun. Here is two links for you if you want to learn more SNESDrunk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHj3uisp-bQ and James and Mikes Mondays https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhx3ulRjphU&t=328s (any excuse to watch the two)
Was going to continue with a Prime 4 run, doing a speedy run through casual after discovering that the end boss in hard mode sucks. It just boring and tiresome, first phase is awful for reasons those of whom have played are likely well aware of and the final one just goes on and on and on, bullet sponge to the extreme, so I stopped as I simply wasn't having fun. Running through on casual, no scans and limited upgrades is super fun though and fast.
That said, I fancy another type of old school (or should I say skool) game and may stick on Croc for the Switch instead.
Silent Hill: Enchanted Wonderland Come one, come all to our amazing new attraction at Silent Hill, Enchanted Wonderland. Mingle with the local residents whilst enjoying the local town (we take no responsibility for your personal safety). Enjoy the sights (if you can see them) and take in the spectacular view from atop the ferris wheel that sits in the centre of our new theme park, where a dense, overbearing, depressing fog rolls as far as the eye can see. After a busy day, relax and have a peaceful night at one of our many beautiful hotels, where there is plenty of space and our world famous hospitality will ensure you have the longest nights sleep of your life (we take no responsibility for you being disturbed and any ritual use you may take part in willingly or not).
@molkom your more than welcome. If you get it I hope you enjoy it. I for one am already blitzing through my next playthrough and have no regrets at all. It has it's flaws, but what doesn't and it is a fine experience despite them. Happy New Year to you too!!
Happy New Year to all the NintendoLife family (staff and readers alike), both past and present and I wish you all the best
Special mention to @Ziondood and @FelixSandwichez, your loss from here will be felt, but may your new adventures turn out prosperous and most importantly, fun!!! Good luck to you both and thank you so very much!!
It's nice to see the positivity here. The internet can have a loud voice that can drown out other opinions, but beyond that voice it does seem most people are enjoying their experience with the game, warts & all and really, what more can you ask for from a game.
@Pillowpants Yeah, the green crystals did suck, but as I said above, on repeat playthroughs it will be so easy given how quickly those 'boulder' things fill up your meter. It would have been nice if that was a bit clearer for those not wanting to get 100% of them their first time round though.
Well, I like the print outs but I don't have a smart phone to do it on, rocking my Nokia! As for the game, I will be starting a new playthrough with voices off and given that I have 100% crystals for concept art, I don't need to worry now and can just get what is on my way to places and wait for powerbomb to very quickly blitz the rest which will reduce the collection time to next to nothing. Despite the issues I have with the game, I had a lot of fun and I am growing increasingly more & more fond of it and can't wait to jump back in. I think over the years I will have many, many playthroughs under my belt. Can't wait to see what the future holds for Prime with a good clean development, exciting times.
@molkom Added you as saw your comment as about to finish mine. It has it's issues, but it really is a good time.
So, now I have finished it, I can finally see reviews of the game (only did NL's and one very short one in youtube) and something I have noticed in the gameplay of others is that people don't seem to be aware there is a jump button for the morph ball, everyone is using the bombs. So, for those playimng that don't know, there is a jump button, no need to wait for bomb detonation
@SoIDecidedTo Retro really should carry on. They worked with ideas they knew would end up a problem, but had to carry on. Now they are ready to go, it will be great to see what they produce.
@Jhena I would love to see what Bandai had going as a curiosity
It is a shame MP4 didn't sell as well as it could have. It has it's flaws for sure, but there is a really fun game in there despite them. The bike and therefore the desert suck me out of it and the NPCs would have been better if they were more like Ice Belt fellow, but I had a fantastic time. The internet has been so aggressive with the flaws that it would have put some off, sadly. I have been playing the series since '89, so no doubt i was going to own it.
@Max_the_German despite the sales (expected) and reception, there will for sure be another soon. They have pulled together a team, a team with experience now who can start from scratch and they will take on board criticisms. Prime 4 went through hell to get here and now they are set up and ready they will not just walk away from the franchise
@electrolite77 exactly. Its a good game and I am having a lot of fun. Sure there are bits I am not to fond of, but it doesn't really matter as I am having fun. I think that's all anyone can ask for. Given the development I think it turned out well. The internet can be overly negative and that sadly helps shape others opinions which then amplifies the whole thing, which has no doubt stopped some buying it. Shout out to the alien architecture, that is just plain beautiful and really helps sell the alien world.
I think with the desert they should have had sections of desert outside the areas, but had a train or some sort of travel system to interconnect to each other. Doing this they could have made the desert feel grand, perhaps far grander and still had some good and most importantly, tighter exploration areas within the desert. The travelling between really pulls me out of the game. It's not the desert as such that does this, but having to hop on the bike, it really feels disconnected and a different travel system could avoid this feeling.
Having said that, the bike is fun and feels awesome and whilst I don't like it in this game, it would have been a great spin off title, much like Prime pinball. Races, combat, trials to do etc, it really could be a fun little game.
As for Prime 4, it's a good little game, it has it's problems but it is good. Feels closer to Prime 3 then 1 or even 2, but that's okay and I am pleased it exists. What comes next from a now developed team who can start from scratch is where the series will shine again. This, unfortunately, was never going to be all it could be given the troubled development.
@Ristar24 you are indeed wise with your Arkham take. Here's a comment I made elsewhere a while back.
Asylum is for me the best too, but as far as the odd one out, I have always looked at Knight for that. Where the others have kept that gritty comic book come to life feel, even if they do not lean on it as hard as Asylum, Knight feels like a movie in video game form. Knights gameplay keeps it feeling connected as such, but it really loses the Arkham 'feel'. So much so, in fact, that when playing it, I feel it has become it's own entity, a stand alone game and even with it's story ties, it just feels disconnected to what came prior.
The combat also felt like it was pushing a little further away. It was of course being sped up in the 2 releases after Asylum, but in Knight, I remember thinking when I first played it "Is this Spider-Man in cosplay" (given the release of Sony's Spider-Man after it actually holds a little funny to look back on now). It just felt a little too fast and athletic. I mean it feels fantastic, the combat is great, but it just ended up not feeling so 'Batman', less powerful, less gritty and too fluid.
The lack of tight indoor areas seemed to push against the grain as well. Arkham series, even when going open world, thrives in tight, somewhat restricted indoor spaces, the devs knew this and thus the 'meat' of the game remained indoors. The outside area was simply to help build the character of the city and allow for some free-play and joy of traversal. Knight, whilst still having some indoor sections, seems to be more content to have its focus outside in the open air and I really feel the loss of the claustrophobic, tight rooms and corridors really have an impact on that Arkham feel. It chose the feeling of being cinematic and it's sheer scale in size over intensity and whilst that choice is fine for a game, even a Batman game, I feel it was not the wisest choice for an Arkham game.
Going back to the movie feel of the game, I am really pleased a Batman game exists that looks this good, that feels like an epic blockbuster, but I really wish it could have been its own thing, a spin off. As the final to the Arkham games I was disappointed, not at first, I was wowed like everyone else, but, as time moves on the disappointment from the feeling of disconnect to the series grows stronger. As a result, along with the sheer size of the game (I prefer a tighter experience), it has become my worst entry.
@Virtual_Man I very much doubt you'll have any worries there. 2D Metroid will return, Dread was very successful and 3D/Prime will return as well. Retro are now set up to handle a game like Prime again, they will be taking the reigns from the start and have experience with Prime Remastered and this, it will be smooth sailing continuing forward. The future of the series is going to look bright.
I wish the staff and all the NintendoLife family that frequent the comments a very happy and magical Christmas. Spoil your loved ones (not necessarily with gifts) and let them know just how special and important they are. Have fun everyone!!
Good for them! Honestly nice to hear things like this when the norm seems to be rush it out the door. I hope it turns out well and wish them all the success
@The_Nintendo_Expat I wanted to take a brief moment to wish you a very 'Happy' Festivus!! I hope you give and take all your grievances well, may you pole stand straight and tall (that sounds wrong, I know) and the best of luck in your test of strength. Happy Festivus one and all!!
I was 6 years and had only played C64, BBC Micro and a little Atari when I first played this. It was mind-blowing. Still is a great game and a lot of fun to this day. Proof that well made games don't age
@Paraka I get what you are saying there, but looking at 4Automated_Unit_4937 comment above yours, they have been stuck for a month and so an easy mode would likely provide that same experience that normal mode would for others. It is a very difficult thing trying to balance and cater for so many.
I liked the first one for what it was, but the over reliance of gun play was a chore for me. The third one has always peaked my interest, so should that release I think I will make a purchase.
So, the only games on this list I played this year was Croc, Galaxy 1 and 2 collection and Silksong. Silksong was alright, but same as Hollow Knight it was too long and I got tired and quit. I prefer my Metroidvania style games to be done and dusted at the 12hour mark max usually and rely on replays to bump up play time. Croc and Galaxy seems odd to vote on due to rerelease, so as a result I am not voting. Metroid Beyond will be Christmas day because as I previously stated I am letting my mother dearest give it to me, still regret that.
Next year I will pick up a S2, just haven't felt the need thus far as only a 1 or 2 games of interest for me. It is odd not getting a Nintendo console on release day. Excluding the NES,SNES and GameBoy, which were given as gifts due to young age, I have had every console and handheld by Nintendo on release day.
Random information- N64 was a big one to remember obviously, but the release day that really hit was the GameCube and seeing Rogue Leader run for the first time. This was the moment I knew we were in the future of gaming.
@Zuljaras completely agree about the industry and many do to be honest. Great thing is there is three decades of great games, so even if it gets worse, there will always be plenty out there to discover or replay.
I have yet to watch Fantastic Four or Superman. Honestly think it is because having been so burned the last few years, excluding the likes of The Batman which is a masterclass in visual and audio film making. Once The Penguin has fully finished I shall do a binge watch, presuming I can hold out. I tend to wait for a series to be fully completed before watching so I don't have to wait ages to finish the story.
I didn't even know a Supergirl was releasing next year, such have a distanced myself or ignored anything that doesn't include the Bat or a Spider as both tend to be of a higher calibre. Hearing about it though makes me want to watch the extended cut of the 80's film again. I should be ashamed to say but I really kinda love that film (extended cut).
Thor Dark World is miles better than the awful Love and Thunder. I genuinely couldn't believe what I saw in that film. Bale was pretty cool though, shame he felt wasted in a film like that.
As for the this game, it has me intrigued and it's certainly a feast for the eyes, so maybe next year I will give it a try.
@AlanShore Alan?? Is that you Alan?? Please tell me your name sake on here is from what I think it is. Anyways, I haven't tried it, just did the updates.
@MirrorFate2 I think it's because I have never started Galaxy 1 as played through it a few times last few years on 3D All-stars, so it didn't start the update unlike Galaxy 2. All is good now

@MirrorFate2 I think it's because I have never started Galaxy 1 as played through it a few times last few years on 3D All-stars, so it didn't start the update unlike Galaxy 2. All is good now
