Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (4th October)

@dartmonkey I bought a PS4 for cheap just to play The Last Guardian, after playing it and Spider-Man I sold it for more, so no loss there. But, as for the game, please, play it. It is very special game and whilst it has it's flaws, it sets out what it wanted to achieve and succeeds wonderfully and for me Tean Ico's best. It will always be a treasured experience.
I warn you though, you may fall in love with Trico.

Re: Talking Point: Can Metroid Prime 4's Title Screen Go As Hard As The Others?

DennyCrane

@ShieldHero You should rectify that. As @Robot99 stated, best to start with Zero Mission or Super. Zero is faced paced, smoother controlling (more modern feeling) and relatively easy to never get lost, almost feels linear. Super is damn near perfect, only negative for new comers, wall-jump can be a pain and may feel clunkier (buttons can be remapped in game via settings).
All of them are great mind, but NES and II have aged, II less so and is quite frankly a fantastic game, but it depends on personal tastes with older games. I think all are worth a play at some point, although have a map at hand with the NES to avoid frustration on first playthrough.
(Super is best)

Oh and gyro aiming is available in 3D All-Stars, it's how I have got all stars twice (including Luigi). I used gyro for aiming, stylus for blowing and pull stars and gyro with trigger held down to keep centred for ball and manta. It's now my preferred way to play it and can not wait to try Galaxy 2 like it.
Edit - Forgot that I use a NexiGo GripCon. So, despite playing in handheld it technically is not. However, seen as it performs the same as the new releases, I can say handheld is amazing

I have been gaming since the Commodore 64, I have owned all Nintendo consoles (excluding Virtual Boy), Playstation 1,2,3 and briefly 4, XBox and 360 and my brother had Master System and MegaDrive, I have played so many games over the years, but not one has ever felt has though it was the distillation of magic as Super Mario Galaxy. I will never forget playing that for the first time, it gave me the feeling of being a small boy on Christmas Eve, it truly was something special. I remember thinking, how will they ever better this? They haven't really, not as far as the magic goes, but that doesn't surprise me. Galaxy 2 couldn't even manage it, although it made up for it with outstanding gameplay, but despite this, the first is always my preferred to play.
When it came out, I devoured the game, all articles in magazines, but craved more. My house-mate, or more precisely, cottage-mate, was sat on his computer, I asked him if we could search Mario Galaxy, we did and I hoped on a little site called Nintendo Life. This was my first time on the internet and reading the review for Mario Galaxy was the first thing I did (I believe the review was spread over 2 pages), all because I needed more. Who would have thought that 18years later, not only am I still using Nintendo Life, but I am reading a review for Mario Galaxy. Crazy.
I got my pre-order (£42, bargain as far as I am concerned) and can not wait to jump back in, despite only playing them through again earlier this year.

Re: Bendy And The Dark Revival Scores A Switch Physical Release Today

@hisownsidekick It's probably a better one than most, I'm basing that on it's popularity as I haven't played any others, but it wears thin and becomes a little boring. It's actually a sequel and you can pick up the first one very cheap, so would be worth playing that and it will give you an idea on this one, save some pennies that way. Despite what I said about it becoming a little boring, I would say that is just my opinion and the games became popular for a reason, so please don't be put off by that.
As for the subgenre, I remember hearing something like 'episodic survival horror' to describe it, don't know if that helps

Re: Opinion: The Mario Movie Was Okay At Best, But I Can't Wait For The Sequel

DennyCrane

A one time watch was enough. It was okay. Sadly, due to it I'm simply not fussed about the new one. Honestly, prefer the live action, it's a weird film, a weird Mario, but it tried and is a really fun and wacky romp. Besides, Mario, particularly the first 6 games (GB included), was always weird and tried to be different each time, the film kinda did the same, to the extreme mind you.

Batman (NES) and maybe some Croc (Switch). Was considering perhaps starting to get to the end of Hollow Knight as save file been left for years now, but, too much running around in the game, so chose the above. Batman is a quick game to run through and have been meaning to replay Croc. Although, as of typing this, I have just decided to do a 100% completion, no death run on SMB3 and SMW with 40th anniversary here.

Re: Random: Wait, Is Donkey Kong Bananza's DLC Hiding A Neat Namco Easter Egg?

DennyCrane

Might just be a nod to Pac-Man as it released in 1980, with Donkey Kong releasing 1981. Both were absolute giants of the arcades, so this is just paying respect to what would have been competition/rivel at that point in time.
Games regularly give a nod to a game/company they respect, I imagine the same is here, either Nintendo as a whole or just developers/programmers.

Re: Nintendo Highlights Super Mario's Game History In 40th Anniversary Timeline

DennyCrane

@Max_the_German Mario Run is a Mario game (although not exactly his best), where as SMW2 is in name only to pull people into trying/buying it. It is a Yoshi game through and through. They did the same with Wario Land, calling it SML3 knowing people would more likely purchase it. Sneaky, maybe, but it prevented the crime of these games not being played as much as they deserve. Being left out is in an admittance to what they truly are, not Mario games.

Re: Nintendo Highlights Super Mario's Game History In 40th Anniversary Timeline

@Member_the_game Both great games. SML1 has looser physics than SMB1, but, is so flipping weird and unique it deserves at least one playthrough. Can be done in as little as 20mins once you know it and has a 'new game plus' after completion. Due to its short length I have replayed it countless times, I can hope on, have a full adventure in no time and walk away happy.
SML2 feels floaty to control, which can feel odd at first, but it is a great game that has some real odd moments and, indeed, enemies. Jason mask with a knife in the head stands out straight away. It's a much longer game, but can still be blasted through quickly and isn't very difficult at all. In fact the only challenge is at the end and I use the term challenge loosely.
Well worth the little time it will take for you to try them out.
