"Lots of tedious quest design" is the answer you should give to be instantly hired when having an interview with Ubisoft and the question arises "What do you think makes a good game?"
@Noelemahc Just not my cup of tea. Think I'd get irritated by it as the game goes on. Not putting a slight against the idea, many will love it, it's just not for me.
@Noelemahc I was tempted to get the Mummy upon release and again in the recent sale, but that death mechanic doesn't appeal to me and I didn't want another part finished game. I know it is similar to Infestations deaths, but it took it to the next level
@Potimarron That's why people went nuts over the announcement and release of Dread. We waited soooooo very long!! A new Metroid game was amazing news as it was, but when the word Dread revealed itself it was a very special moment.
I played through the game twice, once upon release and again about 7-8 years ago on the 3DS. Was a good little game, think those2 playthroughs were enough though and I sold my copy a couple of years or so ago as a result. To anyone who hasn't played it, I concur with PJ that it is well worth it.
I was wondering why I was woken to profanity's being screamed from all directions, then I see Battletoads has been released. All good games here, despite Battletoads difficulty. Kid Icarus on GB is well worth a shot for those that haven't tried it before and is better than the NES game in every way, although I actually still prefer the NES game. Bionic Commando on GB was my first taste of the games, tried the NES one a good few years after GB, both are fun. If you like the NES game, the one most people have played, the GB one is well worth a go.
I think gameplay etc will be spot on, the only problem I have still is the over clean 'cheap' looking graphic style. It's so close to looking good but it needs some grit.
It was a fine game and glad I have it played before, but so much gun blazing that just goes on and on. I have been wondering whether it's worth a replay but considering I was put off playing the others due to this one, I think I should pass. I think it was the third one that had a more traditional feel, so if ever that arrives I will try that one.
@jake1421 I have to wonder if what you said about the boring late stages and run time is part of why I feel the way do about this game (as stated in the comment above). It does feel like it was artificially lengthened in the last third
TMNT NES is my favourite. I love the varied gameplay, music is banging, I love how the Turtles look in it and the fact it's a blend of the original comics and the animated show. Sure it's tough, but the game rewards future planning and is really rather short. As for Shredder's Revenge, when it released I would have said it's the best Turtles beat em up ever, however, now some time as passed I don't think that is true. I keep coming back to likes of Hyperstone Heist or Manhattan Project, but honestly don't think I'm too bothered to play SR again. I can't explain it but the artwork feels kinda off somehow and honestly, whilst that first month with it at release was great, I find the game tiring and a bit of a chore now. I tried booting it up last week and just got that 'I really can't' feeling after a minute.
Went for Europe. I like the art on Japanese but the box is so bright it's off putting, shame it wasn't a black background as those colours on the artwork would look fantastic popping off a dark background.. US is kinda cool with it's chunkier feel, but that console is monsterous. Europe has the sexy console, great colours and feels inviting. A plus for Mario and Yoshi artwork too.
I keep meaning to play something, have done for a few weeks, but haven't as of yet. The most I have done is to be sure to buy Castlevania Advance/Dominus and Contra collections to join my Castlevania Anniversary, as I loved how the games looked on OLED and found myself playing them more due to handheld. I own all the games anyway, but it's great having ease of access and as I said, handheld.
Now, if I do play a game this weekend I think it will have to be Super Mario Odyssey, want something easy and fun. Will start a new run as I wanted to a couple of weeks back. Time to choose a file to erase...again
Whenever I hear the word joystick my mind races back to the 80's of the days of C64. But, the one I remember the most was for the NES, the Quickjoy NI-5. It always reminded me of a fighter pilots joystick. Anyway, well done Mr Kong!!!!
@Whirlwound I never played the arcade game to be honest. Super Nintendo was my first R-type experience, Super R-Type and later III (the one I managed to get quite far on). I actually had it for the GameBoy as well. It was seeing the images of bosses that pulled me into these games. R-Type and Axelay were my go to shooters, I liked the slower more complex style of them. Well done for your arcade achievement!!
Always loved R-Type, but I'm not good at them and get my arse kicked. Never finished one, never will, but thats okay, some games are just fun regardless.
I love me some Marmite and indeed, Vegemite, but this isn't really for me, despite looking like it could be fun. I'd play it for like and hour or two and be like 'that was cool' and never touch it again.
Random, I actually prefer Vegemite as it spreads easier on bread and butter/olive spread (whatever) than Marmite.
@turnmebackwards yep. The higher prices will put people off games they would have bought on a whim normally, but, that does mean you are more likely to buy games you really want, avoiding such a big backlog and a bigger appreciation of those that you do get. Silver linings
@canaryfarmer Been meaning to for ages, but since I have all the games anyway (bar the arcade Contras, but I always preferred the console versions anyhow) I simply haven't done so yet. But after seeing how Anniversary looked on the OLED I have been waiting for a good sale as it got me pumped to have them on the Switch. So looking forward to seeing Circle of the Moon on that screen, being that it is my favourite of the Metroidvanias. Blends the classic and modern beautifully and I always thought it a real shame that the team never got another shot, I honestly think we would have seen something truly special.
I might finally pick up Castlevania Advance Collection and Contra Collection as would be lovely to have them on the Switch as well. I did pick up the Castlevania Anniversary a few months back and the games look beautiful on the OLED and have since been my preferred way to play.
I keep reading Switch 1 & 2 as 1-2 Switch. Never even played the game or even know that much about it, yet it keeps happening. Alternate header '46 Switch (Family, Duo, Siblings) Games You Should Check out.....' I presume the change will be made immediately just to cater to my whims
@JohnnyMind Awesome, good for you. 4 is much action than horror, some tense moments and some gruesome looking things etc but definitely action orientated. Hope you enjoy it. My personal favourite is REmake, so if ever you do get round to that I'd love to hear how you found it. The newer ones though definitely lean harder into horror elements and won't hold back in doing so, so I would acquaint yourself with the older ones first for sure.
It's good to see Link's Awakening (GB) higher than DX or the Switch version, it is for me the best version and for many, many years was my favourite top down Zelda game, then Minish Cap came out which easily stands toe to toe and depending on the day, beats it. Today it does. Zelda II is criminally overlooked or bullied into the corner. It is a fantastic game, albeit with some flaws, but the moment to moment gameplay is simply fantastic. The world and music are superb, the graphics set a unique tone that reminds me of Harryhausen. This style of Zelda really deserves to be revisited. As for 3D, Windwaker and Breath sit at top for me
Just came back to read it properly as only skimmed it earlier and I see you actually mentioned Bamboozle that I referenced in my last comment (I have now changed my profile picture accordingly and then realised it actually looks like Denny Crane from Boston Legal, so that worked well). I will absolutely get this at some point soon, sounds like a nice, surreal blast from the past. Also, I have always loved 4:3 and actually prefer it for programmes, leaving anything wider for film. I like that it has a very focus viewpoint which seems to fit better for the human eye. When watching older series that have the transition to widescreen a few seasons/series in, I always get a twinge of disappointment when it happens.
I used to love the quiz on teletext called Bamboozle, with the guy in his blue suit, yellow face and black hair. He used to give you a lovely greeting every day and then you would start the quiz.....time to search the internet for memories on that one
@Jack_Goetz Eurotrash was so bad, yet somehow, weirdly enjoyable. It's name was very apt
@kal_el_07241 it was always going to be due to the way people have to participate. I while back I did the Metal Gear one and trying to get it to be even close to my ranking was impossible, let alone doing it with 100 games.
I have been avoiding spoilers, Metroid is one of my favourite gaming IPs and one of the reasons I still game. I wanted to go in as blind as possible, but when Arlo's video came up, something inside me said you better watch this. I am both pleased and disappointed I did. It's good to know this before I go into the game, it would have been a harder hit hearing the "he's behind me, isn't he" humour whilst playing, at least this way I am prepared. But to know it's in a Metroid game is a tough pill to swallow. I'm all for NPC's being added, building the lore and universe whilst still keeping the core intact, but I am confused with the choice to put that sort of humour. Humour can work in a game like this, banter between NPC's it could work, but the type of humour that would need is not this. Truth is, we don't how much of the game has this, it could just be a little and at the moment I will still remain hyped, despite the tarnish, because it's a new Metroid game and I have been in love with Metroid since 1989. Still, I can't help but repeat to myself "Why?"
I am still super looking forward to this, not many games get me as hyped as a new Metroid game and the day I hold that new cartridge in my hands is going to be a glorious one.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to leave this video and maybe the article, he is going a bit more in-depth than I would like. Boycotting Metroid stuff till sometime after the 4th then
Boosting about playing more than me/us, honestly, I would not want to play it for just an hour, I'd want to start and keep going till the credits. I adore Metroid, both 2D and 3D and playing for an hour and having to wait would drive me nuts
As if I needed to be any more hyped for this. However, green area=check, desert area=check, cold area= check, lava area=check, tech area=check, c'mon guys. It's going to be fantastic, I have no doubt, but a little more alien flair in the imagination would have been nice. As for the people, expected that after Corruption, but it did feel reminiscent of another franchise. Either way, cant ****ing wait. Metroid is one pf my all time favourite gaming IP's and I am so grateful for another visit to an alien world with Samus. Only a few years after the last time as well.
Hyrule Warriors has impressive sales. Not my cup of tea mind, I tried the previous one but got stale quick. PS5 game snuck in there, but being Dragon Quest I'm not surprised it did. DQ has been hugely popular there since it first entered the scene many years ago.
I will see it some day. The first one really left me disappointed. A fancy trailer showing off a bunch of recognisable stuff from the games is not going to pump me up for the film. I really do hope they produce something of worth, something with substance and not something shallow like the previous film, relying on 'look remember this in that one game', because I truly would love to end up watching it one day and really enjoying it. But, for now, I am just going to have to presume it will be the same old illumination film only with Mario characters and a watch once for the prettiness and be done with it. I've said this before, but Mario, the Galaxy name and indeed children, deserve more than an empty, pretty film. Man, I do hate to be negative about such things. I'll keep a quiet optimism inside me
@Broch83 my thoughts exactly, mainly because Illumination. If they somehow knock it out the park then fair enough, but I'm expecting another generic Illumination movie with Mario slapped on, just like last time and both Mario and the Galaxy title deserve more
