Re: Feature: The Man, The Mascot, The Moustache - The Many Faces Of Mario

DennyCrane

@Banks Enjoy!! Don't forget, if playing NSMBU on switch you can have the twirl mapped back to triggers instead of the annoying A/B they put it on in this version by holding down left stick for 3 seconds at title screen and whilst still holding it, press L/R to start as you normally would. Only Nintendo would ruin controls then give you a weird work around to play how they originally were.
As for the games, DS and NSMBU are my two top picks. NSMBW can feel a little empty at points, I guess due to multiplayer and NSMB2 is just a little to uninspired, but all of them are still fun as I said before, just feels like Nintendo put minimum effort in thats all

Re: Hot Patootie! There's A Rocky Horror Show Retro Platformer On The eShop

DennyCrane

Unexpected but most definitely not unwanted!! Looks great, will get later in week. I loved the film and the live show, saw some interesting dresswear at that.
Now, give me Seymore and a plant that needs feeding to go along with this game! Which, with the thought of pixel plants, randomly reminds me of something long forgotten, how much I longed for a Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors game to come to the NES when I was younger

Re: Best Super Mario Games Of All Time

DennyCrane

SMW is still my fav. I long for it to be topped but hasn't happened yet. The graphics & sound create a beautifully joyous atmosphere that for me no other game has topped, it controls like a dream, the levels are a good mix of exploration and just being able to blast through and that map, oh that map. Nintendo has yet to beat it, the shear amount of freedom it offers is unapparelled, want to go straight to the end boss after only a handful of levels? You got it. Want to skip just one world? You got it. Want to skip a level or two? You got it. There are so many variations of paths.
M64 is a extremely versatile game as well, always willing to offer you choices and allow you to forge your own path. And again Nintendo have never offered this level freedom in their 3D games. Odyssey may offer freedom of moons, but only offers you twice (both only 2 options) to veer of the path laid before you. Two console games back to back that offer you a playground and give you as much freedom to explore them as reasonably possible. I feel like Nintendo is scared to offer this again, I thought they were going to with Wonder upon discovering Special World but atlas they didn't.

2D games
1 Super Mario World
2 Super Mario 3
3 Super Mario Bros/Super Mario 2/Wonder/Super Mario Land (IDK something about this game I adore, plus I can blast through and have a full adventure in like 20mins, 40mins if including the new game plus, great for limited time gaming)
I know the above have games at same rank but I simply can't say which I love more, each has their own gameplay reasons

3D games
1 Mario 64
2 Galaxy
3 Odyssey
Galaxy can often feel number 1 to me but I boot up 64 and the charm wins me over, so I suppose they are inter changeable

Re: 'Croc' Comparison Video Shows A Solid Yet Familiar Graphical Evolution

DennyCrane

Awesome. I loved this back then. It's nice this era is getting more and more love. I'd really love to see Die Hard Trilogy or Tenchu brought back, that game had good thick atmosphere and was great for early stealth and Die Hard was just plain awesome. Many PS1 games worth going back to and giving a lick of paint too, many that aren't as well to be honest.
Surprising that we havent seen a bundle of the first 2 GTA's and London to be honest.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Time For Another Side-Scrolling Zelda Game?

DennyCrane

@Jack_Goetz 3 of us
Zelda II is an amazing game, flawed for sure, sending you back after death is just mean, but the game is superb non the less. The simple yet fun levelling system, combat is fantastic and the atmosphere is awesome.

I've wanted a side-scrolling Zelda for sooo long and I'd love to see a new one too, I have enjoyed the side sections in EOW and love the styles combined but its also made me want a dedicated side-scroller so much more.

Re: Can You Name These Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom Enemies?

DennyCrane

I finished this game last week so I may do this later if I have time, will be interesting to see how much stuck, I kinda got tired of the game. On subject of enemies, I do wish they had of given Zelda bow as a permanent weapon of her own. I think it would have been nice to have an option for her to fight on her own. Zelda has had a bow many times before in games and in those films where she becomes good friends with a dwarf who doesn't like to be tossed.

Re: Review: Crow Country (Switch) - A PS1-Style Horror Homage That Blends Old With New

DennyCrane

Been really looking forward to this, will purchase this week for sure.
On regards of ammo, I think this review might be a bit little misleading saying it's not plentiful, you can go to your car to fill up on ammo whenever you like and from the other reviews I've seen ammo was never an issue and easy to source. Not that it makes much difference really, its clearly an amazing game regardless, but just a point to pick up on.

Re: Opinion: Hyrule Really Needs To Take A Look At Its Prison System

DennyCrane

@JohnnyMind @VHSGREMLIN crime may be low until Link goes out to save the day, then no ones goods are safe. He uses the opportunity to steal all he can, entering peoples houses taking whatever he wants, random acts of vandalism both public and private, the guys a menace, yet gets a pass because of his heroism. I have to wonder whether him and Ganondorf are actually partners in crime, Ganondorf sets the stage, Link steps to be the 'hero' taking all he can, then they act out a fight and share the spoils. Its the perfect crime.

Re: Best Zelda Games Of All Time

DennyCrane

@axelhander Zelda II is criminally under rated, Its a pain on the backside admittedly due to sending you back to start after death, but other than that it is a damn fine Zelda game that is so full of character. Superb combat, great atmosphere, an enjoyable but not complex levelling system and great enemy design. The temple/dungeons feel like really dangerous places too. I would love to see Nintendo return to a style like this.

EoW a loved to begin with, but its just tiring, I struggled to finish it. Its a good game, its just not a good Zelda game, ironically enough given the staring role. As far as top down Zelda goes, Minish Cap is still my favourite. That game has a wonderful joy and sense of wonder to it, and the pixel art is gorgeous at times, especially when shrunk. Given how much more powerful consoles are, I'd love to see a return to pixel top down Zelda, with the most stunning pixel art ever done by Nintendo, we could easily be looking at the best looking Zelda game, whether being compared to 2D or 3D, if done right.

Re: Random: Blimey, This 3D Printed Hyrule Model From Zelda: LTTP Is Massive

DennyCrane

Good video. The water being done was fascinating. The only issue was the way he placed buildings in middle, I know he said it was his hyrule so that was creative part, but they are so haphazardly placed. Still, very impressive.
@BoFiS The base about a week or so, the printing over a month, then it would have been the details, painting, gluing together etc. So, all told, about 6 weeks odd

Re: Christmas Comes Early In This Blatant Super Mario Bros. 3 Clone

DennyCrane

At £3.84 I imagine its a short little thing, but something thats fun to blast through once a year. I'll def be buying. When I see something like this it's hard to see it as a rip-off of Mario etc, seems more like a love letter to Nintendo's games, made by people with a deep passion for the games and just made something out of them. Even the title screen is a nod to Zelda, I imagine there will be many more to other games tucked in the game

Re: Mario Movie Actor Says Second Film Is "Very Exciting So Far"

DennyCrane

I wasnt the biggest fan of the first one, felt it was okay. Kinda felt generic, so similar in animation and comedy as many other films of that type, nothing made it fell special and as @N00BiSH seems to have suggested, the writing was rather bland. I hope the sequel gets injected with some magic and would love to see another big bad, a new one perhaps, bowser seems even less of a menace in film form.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom?

DennyCrane

I gave it an 8. Its very good but I found I started to tire mid way, so hopped on mario galaxy and did 50 stars. I'll finish it up, later this week. I dont think I'll be too fussed to replay it to be honest, so will run it to cex whilst I'll still get back what I paid, in fact I'll make a penny. Selecting an echo can become a real chore is my biggest complaint, I dont mind frame rate so much, but can see how people would. I like the art style more in this than I did with LA, but do hope they leave it be after this game and try something new.
Minish Cap is still my number 1

Re: Review: The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom (Switch) - A Bold Blend Of Old & New That Ranks With The Series' Best

DennyCrane

I am so UTTERLY DISAPPOINTED in this game! Preordered on announcement and has been much anticipated since. Today it arrived, my heart began to race as i cracked open the case. Nothing. What, what is going on I asked myself. Perhaps the ambience is wrong, so I darkened the room with only the flicker of candles to light it. Much better I thought. So, once again I cracked the case, nothing, I opened it a fraction more, nothing. Where is the shining light? Where is the build up in music? I opened it fully and in a vain hope I took out the game, held it aloft whilst posing in the traditional manner. Nothing, not if a faint whisper of Da na na naaa. My heart broke audibly, I throw the game to the floor and stamped on it, over-come with emotion and cremated the shattered remains over a candle. Then proceeded to huddle into the corner of the shower as a wailed and wept bitter tears. 0 out of 10, I cried, 0 out of 10!!!
On hindsight I may have over reacted somewhat.

Re: Review: Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed (Switch) - A Lick Of Paint Works Wonders

DennyCrane

When this first came out I thought it looked interesting but ended up ignoring it. Read the review of this new version when they released and was kinda set to ignore it again, but watching the video review I think I'm sold. I love the darker Disney and older Disney had a magic that has slowly been lost the past two decades. I'll pick this up as soon as I can spare some cash.

Re: Super Tennis

DennyCrane

Greatest tennis game ever made. So much fun and man those ball physics, honestly don't think they have been matched since.
Try it, stick with it and be amazed by it.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online SNES Game Ranked

DennyCrane

Ah the SNES, a contender for the greatest console of all time. I dont have NSO but do have all the games I love on SNES mini, including NES, GB and GBA. Many of these games I've bought multiple times such is my love for them. The SNES has some of the best pixel art ever too, so many games being a thing of beauty.
Super Mario World is still my fav game of all time, it the music, the graphics that I just adore, the versatility in how you want to complete it with the map, that still no 2D has come close to topping. Simply a masterpiece that Nintendo will top one day and I cant wait for that day. Super Metroid, despite clunky controls is still my fav Metroid, a game I hold very dear, man that atmosphere is unbeatable. Mega Man X, best Mega Man ever? Quite possibly. A system full of masterpieces and many many games that whilst dont reach masterpiece level are still incredible.
So pleased that Americans can play Super Tennis, the amount of hours pumped into that game with friends when younger is unreal.

Re: Review: The Plucky Squire (Switch) - Enormously Charming, But Not So Plucky On Switch

DennyCrane

SwitchUp didnt seem to have as many fps issues. Said its fine with a few little drops.
30fps 60fps 120fps! I would love for a developer to be like "Oh, hey guys. We can confirm that our much anticipated game Freaky McDingo 2 - Revenge of the Woolly Willy Warmer will be 83fps on PC and home consoles and a rock solid 37fps on Switch!"

And a random thing a stumbled upon yesterday for anyone interested, Dire Dire Docks with lyrics by Man on the internet. The vocals could be better but the lyrics really fit the music, an interesting curiosity. Its a few years old now so perhaps I'm last to know but just in case. Re: Rumour: Nintendo May Be Looking To Add SNES Mouse Support To Switch Online

DennyCrane

@Edu23XWiiU
I do get that, but Galaxy can be loose with pointer so it works okay just to waggle around and grab, were as light-gun shooters demand quick accuracy and the joycons would struggle not to mention recalibrate mid flow. It could work and would be ok as a substitute, but would certainly feel lesser for it and belittle the games a bit. I do hope that in the future we get a great way to play these and new games like these, there is such an unbridled joy to light-gun games.
All this talk of light-gun games is really making me wanna play some!!

Re: Rumour: Nintendo May Be Looking To Add SNES Mouse Support To Switch Online

DennyCrane

@premko1
I did comment on that earlier, saying "I had it for the WiiU actually. Wasn't bad, but had to use a cross target to be accurate, you could do it without but that was a pain in the butt." I did enjoy playing it on WiiU, wasnt as good as original obviously due to target being needed instead of just the eye but a good work around none the less and whilst not as satisfying it was still a lot of fun.
Come on Nintendo, time to restart that IP!!

Re: Rumour: Nintendo May Be Looking To Add SNES Mouse Support To Switch Online

DennyCrane

@Edu23XWiiU
Can't see them doing the Wiimote thing on Switch, maybe the next console and as for Joycon what IceClimberMain said "Would it work well? Absolutely not but it might be playable and wouldn't hurt to be an option." which to be honest kinda makes it not worth it for Nintendo. But, I absolutely think Nintendo should consider adding a Wiimote style controller for such games, plus the possibility of new games in that style and of course downloadable wii games, for which there is no shortage.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo May Be Looking To Add SNES Mouse Support To Switch Online

DennyCrane

@KingMike
I had Operation Wolf, got it for christmas '89 if i remember right might have been the year before, I was 7 or 8 at time and had only played Duck Hunt with my Zapper till then other than brief go's on Hogans Alley at cousin. OW was a fun game, can't remember finding it too bad with Zapper but back then had a different mentality playing games. My poor brother had it for his Master System but didnt have a light-gun for like a month or so, used to just stare at the case in longing.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo May Be Looking To Add SNES Mouse Support To Switch Online

DennyCrane

@RobbWes
Oooo good point and as for a new one absolutely I would imagine that would be the way they would go if going down that route. The mouse is easy enough with usb ports and you could very easy do a similar thing to do with sensor bar etc to play light-gun games from the 8 and 16bit days, but I imagine that would likely be a route for the next system, especially the wealth of gaming options available, adding Wii games to download could be a large earner for Nintendo

Re: Rumour: Nintendo May Be Looking To Add SNES Mouse Support To Switch Online

DennyCrane

@IceClimbersMain
I had it for the WiiU actually. Wasn't bad, but had to use a cross target to be accurate, you could do it without but that was a pain in the butt. I'm not sure how you could do it with joy-con, it's a shame the sensor can't be plugged into the switch, could then use the Wiimote option again. I think, unless light-gun tech can be reintroduced some way then those type of games are going to remain on older systems to not have any sacrifices to gameplay. And boy were there some great games, playstation had some awesome ones, Die Hard 2 on the Die Hard Trilogy will always be very fondly remembered
