I think the only way to do Early Access Correctly is to not pay the developer/publisher until the game is released. People pay for a game in early access but Nintendo holds onto that money until the game is released. That way you don't have people over promising and taking the money and running.
I don't really care since the experience will be a lot different on XB1/PS4, probably worst, and as long as a Nintendo system still gets future installments of the series.
I feel like the sale logic behind "Voice Chat as an option is never a bad thing," could be applied to "Multiplayer as an option is never a bad thing"
There are reasons why games might include or exclude certain features. You may not personally agree with those reasons but it doesn't make those reasons invalid. I don't want Voice Chat in Splatoon, just like I don't want Online Multiplayer in Mario Party, just like I don't want Multiplayer in Dead Space. More features =/= better experience.
Sadly when a few companies try to take advantage of consumers it destroys the trust. Then consumers won't be willing to give another company a chance on high priced items, even when those items are good quality. People claim they want an open market, to make it easier for indies and others to create and sell games but they don't want to take the responsibility to actually support those indies that try. People, don't wait for sales. If you have the money and are interested in a game then buy it. Waiting for sales just shows that the company should make smaller cheaper games and it is a downward spiral.
Also surprised the article didn't bring up Shantae and the Pirates Curse
I am sad to see so many people not buy the game just because of the price. Shantae and the Pirates Curse is $20 but people still bought that. I am going to buy it at full price once I can afford it but I don't think $20 is to much. Hopefully more of you will come around by the time the game is actually released. Also I hope the developer markets the heck out of it. They need to do a full interview.
I completely agree that there is room or larger and deeper games on digital stores. It is a little difficult going from 1st for $3 to the 2nd for $20.
Also I feel strategy games have this unique aspect of unseen content. The strategies the developers have to think of and balance that might take the consumers months or years to develop is unseen content that the consumer needs to pay for. Hopefully there is enough content and good enough gameplay for most people to purchase this game. I want it but the price will mean I have to wait at least a month.
I was perfectly fine ignoring this game until now. I will check it out at E3, but if it doesn't blow me away then I will most likely be able to skip it. I am already collecting Amiibo and Disney Infinity. I hope this Doctor Who Lego stuff does well enough to justify a stand-alone Doctor Who Lego game.
I think it would have been smart to have two separate downloads for this game. Either at $15 each or at $20 each but a $10 discount if you own the other one.
I think the event should be the whole weekend. They could get a lot more data and give more people a chance to play it. I already have plans with my wife on Saturday, so I will only get to play it tomorrow for that 1 hour.
@Quorthon Nintendo isn't going to save the Wii U. What they need to focus on is their brand, like sony did with the PS3. If they can prove a Nintendo system is worth the investment, even if the Wii U isn't selling well, then their next console will be in a better position from launch. Nintendo probably shouldn't launch a new system if their reputation shows it will just be replaced before it can get traction. Ride the Wii U out as long as possible (3DS and Amiibo will keep money flowing during that time) and once they have recovered their brand recognition, then bring out a new system. They don't have to make the Wii U a success (they probably can't) they just need to show it being a worthwhile investment before replacing it or we will see the same thing that happened with the Wii U
@JaxonH Well thanks. I don't think I have the answer to all of nintendo's problems and my answer may be wrong, I just think if people really thought it out, they would realize that Nintendo making the same machine as Sony and Microsoft wouldn't be the smartest idea.
Why would anyone without a Wii U or plans to buy a Wii U buy a NX given Nintendo's current reputation? A new console won't change their reputation automatically.
I wasn't trying to say Nintendo is in the same situation as Sony was with the PS3, but I think they are similar enough to draw the comparison. Nintendo ditching the Wii U for the NX to me would be a lot more like Sega, pushing hardware out to create buzz. If Nintendo wants to be more popular next-generation, then they need to start changing their reputation now. It might be difficult to do that on the 3rd Party front but they can change things in other ways. If Nintendo charged into the NX now or even in a year without changing their reputation I don't think things will be much different. Supporting the Wii U now isn't about making money now, it is about changing their reputation to make money in the future.
the thing is that if Nintendo burns bridges with the people that are buying their systems right now, then who will be buying their systems in the future? While it may not seem like a big lose compared to the gain they might be able to make, the idea of dropping support for the Wii U to early could result in bigger loses for the NX. If we look at the PS3, it wasn't doing well in the beginning of its lifespan but Sony kept supporting it and through that they were able to claim the "crown" this generation. A lot of people's reasons for buying a PS4 are because of how well Sony continued to support the PS3 and a lot of people's reasons for not buying a Wii U is how dead the Wii was the last few years of its life. Instead of burning the bridge to your current customers, satisfy them while giving incentives (like the best version of the newest Zelda) to buy the NX.
And each remake had some slight edits it them to make them more user friendly (maybe not OoT 3D) I think it would be the smarter way to go. Give people holding off on a Wii U and big enough push for the NX and give people with a Wii U enough content to be satisfied with their purchase with a incentive for the NX.
Right but I don't think the title needs to be rushed anyway. I think if they just finished the product they set out to make that we could have it december 2015 or early 2016. that would still give them plenty of time to make a Director's Cut for NX and give them experience for developing on the NX (like Wind Waker HD did for Wii U)
I think delaying Zelda two years for the NX release (the most likely release time for the system) is crazy. Honestly at this point I think it would be smarter to rush the game and release it then put those two years towards making a new Zelda. maybe prep a Director's Cut version of Zelda U for the NX. There are smarter things to do then to keep paying for production of a product just to release it at that time.
$20 doesn't seem to bad. I will be very interested in how well this sells. I know for download only titles the high point is normally $15, I hope we can start having more of a mix in prices and scope of games.
I really hope all those screenshots are the same level. The background seems pretty boring, especially if I am going to have to look at that throughout the whole game.
