As most of you are aware, Club Nintendo's days are numbered. About a month ago, Nintendo announced that a new loyalty program would be replacing it later this year, with Club Nintendo set to shut down for good on 30th June. Shortly after the announcement was made, Nintendo made a plethora of new downloadable games and physical goods available, so the service could go out with a bang. Many of the new physical goods carried a high price tag, and while it may be that you can no longer register new games and products to earn coins, these physical items just became a whole lot more affordable.
Oddly enough, Nintendo chose not to make any sort of announcement about it, but the prices of all physical goods have been cut. Here's the full list of what the prices were and what they are now:
- Mario & Luigi Greeting Cards: 300/150 coins
- Nintendogs Greeting Cards: 300/150 coins
- 3DS Game Card Case: 2015 Edition: 400/300 coins
- 2016 Desktop Calendar: 400/300 coins
- 3DS XL Pouch: The Legend of Zelda: 600/300 coins
- Retro Mario T-Shirt: 700/350 coins
- Fierce Deity Link Jigsaw Puzzle: 800/400 coins
- The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D Messenger Bag: 800/500 coins
Will this entice you to grab anything before it's gone? For those of you that paid top dollar for these things before the price drop, are you frustrated that you could've saved some of your coins? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Hope they do this in Europe coz I may be able to get the Majora's Mask light.
This will just tick those off that spent all their coins early thinking none of that stuff would be available later on. Good job Nintendo!
Good thing I saved my coins, might have to get the pouch or the game case.
@Spoony_Tech
Add me to that list. I thought for sure the Majora's Mask puzzle would be gone within a couple days!
@Spoony_Tech @eLeightist That's exactly why i Spent 800 coins on the puzzle as soon it was revealed -.-
Nintendo is not the first time doing things like this. Back to the earlier days on Wii u they keep saying that the price of the console will not drop, and then drop it one year after it launches, and then do not even compensate for early adoptors. Early adoptors have paid a higher price with severe game drought.
Bottom line: Never buy a Nintendo console early. The price will definitely drop even it says it won't.
@GreatPlayer Uhh why is that only for Nintendo consoles? Never buy ANY console early if you don't wanna pay twice as much.
Dammit. I just blew through the last of my coins about a month ago...oh well, nothing I really needed/wanted so I'm good!
Honestly what the fudge man... why'd they do this, they know for a fact nobody can get these right? You can't even redeem coins anymore. Also when people say nintendo is lame just stick with them and then talk to me cause this is lame >
I saved my coins because I was hoping for a restock of the SSB4 posters but with these discounts, I'm grabbing two items for the price of one SSB poster. Yay Zelda puzzle!
@GreatPlayer Uhhh, just so you know, the Nintendo Wii remained at it's launch price for a LONG, LONG time. Or do you just have short term memory...?
Well nothing that I really wanted anyway.
@Starz
I check about 3 hours ago and there was no MM light. It was gone since last week. I would like the discount to come to Europe though.
I managed to have enough coins to get all the htings I really wanted, and I have like 265 coins left, but this still kind of makes me a bit mad. As others have said, thought some of the things would sell out after a couple of days.
Got my LOZ bag ordered, so that was the biggie. But now it's 300 coins. Grr.
Are... you... kidding me...
I could've gotten that Fierce Deity poster! Geez Nintendo, why to piss of people who spent their's already thinking that if they didn't have enough they'd never be able to get it.
The Zelda pouch is a steal now.
@DiscoGentleman rich man.
Wow, I was about to get a game with my leftover coins, but with the price cut, I got the Zelda pouch! Yay!
I think what you forgot to say was the stuff that is left is now reduced!
That's no fair I got the messenger bag for 800 coins and was stuck with NES remix(not a bad game) left overs had I waited I could of got Paper Mario. Oh well
I don't no what to do with my 205 coins either.
I'm now tempted to get the Majora's Mask puzzle since I found out that it glows in the dark.
@GreatPlayer
That goes for any console. But there are many of us, myself included, that would rather have the console day one and enjoy it for those 52 weeks rather than not play the console an entire year just to save 50 bucks.
@HyruliamOfHyrule
"Nintendo screwed us over again"
Hmm, I'm not sure I see how giving away free merchandise is screwing people over. Just because they choose to be generous now (and for good reason, like a store going out of business that marks their prices down 20%, then 50%, then the final week blowout gets 80% off what's left) doesn't mean you were cheated. They could start giving it away, but that doesn't make the original deal you got any less fair. Jus saying, it's free stuff and they gotta dump product. Let em be.
I spent my coins getting countless free vc games over the years. The only physical rewards I ever got are a Zelda 3ds game case, Zelda 2 world poster set and the Zelda mm puzzle. I think getting $5-10 game pretty much monthly for years was a better deal.
Boy, I figured there'd be plenty of salty gamers over this! I was really eyeing that MM puzzle when it was 800, but I unfortunately still don't have enough to get it.
sigh I spent 700 coins on the mario shirt, 70 leftover. At current price, I could've gotten the shirt AND the puzzle
why.
@GreatPlayer um... that applies for ALL consoles.
@outburst Hopefully Club Nintendo will get more stock & reduce the amount of stars. Then I'll be able to get one.
I have around a 1000 coins left so I may get a couple of physical goods then.
Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks Nintendo Life, just ordered each of my kids a t-shirt, which they'll grow into in about 3-5 years, and myself a messenger bag, which I can't imagine ever using, but it looks cool, and w/ my 160 leftover coins got another set of Mario et al greeting cards, which I'll also never use but they can keep the other set company. Maybe my youngest can have a Mario themed bar mitzvah party?
Guess I can really forget about CN now. for 2-5 months anyway according to their delivery estimate.
On the bright side, all that physical loot may make the $60 Splatoon price tag a little easier to swallow.
Dang. Should have waited and got the messenger bag instead of getting the wonderful 101. Oh well.
The retro Mario shirt is pretty sweet--way cooler than the NES Remix shirt I spent 700 coins on a while back--but unfortunately I don't have enough coins to get it, nor any way to add more coins to my account.
Ugh! I have 140 left.
Honestly, they troll me so bad.
Sucks I only have 85 coins.
That messenger bag isn't all that. It fits my 13in Mac and that's about it. It's kind of girly. It is all black but don't let the picture fool you. It has glitter all over the art work. The quality isn't bad but it isn't great either. I have hung it up in my video game shrine.
I got 60 Coins... anything for 60 Coins? lol
Now they need to reduce the game prices by half!
and what's the deal with my puzzle coming in a paper bag instead of a box... just sayin.
Well crap.
I'd love to have one more game case. Ah well.
I'm never gonna get to spend my last 30 coins.
@JaxonH
It's hardly "free". We did have to buy hundreds of dollars worth of games to qualify for these things. I mean I see your point, but can you honestly not see the annoyance from gamers that felt the prices listed in february were the final ones? If I'd know this would happen, I would have saved my 1000 coins. Just seems like a jerk move by Nintendo, honestly. Even though I do understand, I feel for people who regret their purchases now
@Operative
Yes, but like any business or store that's closing and marks its prices down further the sooner it gets to closing, we had no guarantee these particular items would still be in stock. It's easy now, in hindsight, to say woulda shoulda coulda, but these items very well could have sold out and your coins been wasted. So by by paying normal price (and that's another reason people shouldn't be upset, they got the same deal CN has always offered us for the same prices) we were guaranteed the item. Sure, now it's easy to say oh I shoulda waited. But we didn't know if these items would still be in stock. And neither did Nintendo.
I've no coins, and even so...meh. lol
@DarthNocturnal
I doubt even they themselves knew that at the time. It's hard to predict how many will buy what and how much. But ya gotta figure, they gotta do something with the rest of the stock before CN closes. Time to slap the ole orange clearance sticker on what's left.
@DarthNocturnal
Idk. That may be what they end up doing with whatever's leftover after June 30th...
@DiscoGentleman How about people who purchased Wii u a month before the price cut? N made no attempt to compensate.
Let me know when something drops below 55 coins.
I'd sure like another one of those 3DS cases, I'm sure glad I managed to get the LoZ game case.
@GreatPlayer No one forced them to buy a Wii U then. They could have waited the same.
I can't blame people for jumping on physical items quickly. Seems like this stuff is manufacture-on-demand as opposed to the old "We made X, we sold out, you'll never see it again." I have 80 coins left and I don't want Grill Off Ultra Hand, but I'd gladly spend them on a Game Boy game if the price was slashed.
I spent all my coins early; I could have got a couple games with what I overpaid for physical goods--which I don't have yet!
Wow! Man am I glad I saved my coins then! I was going to jump on Wonderful 101, but I've been waiting to pick up a Portable Hardrive to put it on first so I can actually fit it on my Wii U- but now, I guess I don't have to worry about that Got the Majora's Mask Fierce Deity Puzzle (that apparently also glows in the dark) ordered!!! Will probably spend the rest of my coins on Golden Sun download + the Ultra Hand game nobody wants, but I'll wait a bit.
@nintendude1229 I didn't save my coins but I have the case and it is the best physical reward I have bought from Club Nintendo. Your coins will be well spent.
Only had enough for Doc-Louis, so this doesn't really affect me.
I can certainly understand people being annoyed that they reduced coin prices so drastically like this. In my opinion, Nintendo should've had some way to refund the people that have already made coin purchases on these items to ease the pain a bit- it makes sense for them to cut down coin prices and finish up their current stock, but it sucks for the people that bought earlier and spent all their coins when more of the digital currency can't even be earned anymore. Maybe some of you all should try emailing Nintendo support for this idea?
@Nico07 I ended up getting the pouch, but I'm sure the case would've been worth it too. Personally, my fave. item I bought with coins was my Gold Nunchuk
I had 80 coins and chose to give someone a free grill off code, so if they reduce the games down to 80 or less coins, I will...sort of hate myself, lol. I thought it was safe to assume Nintendo wouldn't pull this but now I don't know.
This pisses me off so much. I F5ed club nintendo for 12 HOURS STRAIGHT to guarentee a reward from CNintendo, because they suck with stock. And now this happens. FML
Are you kidding me? I would have saved 950 coins if I knew this was going to happen.
I would have saved 700 coins with those reduced prices... Enough for star fox 64 3D, damn it!
While I am disappointed, there's nothing I could do. I really wanted that jigsaw puzzle though
So glad I waited it out. The Majoras mask bag is mine!
Damn it, shouldve saved my coins. Could've been able to get the pouch plus another game.
FYI to all: The puzzle comes in a bag, not even a box like pictured. Very disappointed indeed.
3DS Game Card Case: 2015 Edition: 400/300 coins / 3DS XL Pouch: The Legend of Zelda: 600/300 coins / Fierce Deity Link Jigsaw Puzzle: 800/400 coins
...So I could have had 800 coins to work with, had I held off on the above. Enough to have now got: 2016 Desktop Calendar: 400/300 coins / The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D Messenger Bag: 800/500 coins
Yeah, count me salty.
At least I got my Animal Crossing playing cards, something I definitely wanted (somehow started collecting those...), along with the complementary SSB posters (which we still need to hang up).
Now, expecting a coin-drop in the games. Because,... that's life!!!
This is garbage. Way to stick it to your loyal fans who already paid for these a couple of months ago.
Wow... Wasted 300 coins for nothing!
I really hope some of the games get discounted. I have 120 coins left I would like to use up.
@nintendude1229 I would have bought the gold nunchuck but it sold out at the time. I did get the bundled gold controller with Skyward Sword though.
Super lame considering people might have held on to their coins for these deals if they hadn't told us the program was ending and left us with the belief we should just unload all our coins, and of course now there's no way to earn any more coins to take advantage of these deals. People that redeemed for physical rewards 3 months ago only just got them about now, coincidentally when they drop the prices, and a lot of people are expressing disappointment with their quality as it is. Way to leave a bitter taste in our mouths, Nintendo.
I agree, this does seem a little unfair to the people who have already spent their coins. It's almost like Nintendo is just throwing your final coins away. I think the only people who would disagree are the people who could not afford any of these items previously.
I have already ordered the light in AU. I hope they do not come out with another cool item for EU / AU for people to spend their stars on and then discount the light. What a beautiful (not) way that would be for Nintendo to treat their loyal customers when they close down Club Nintendo!
Gee, THANKS, Nintendo. Thanks again for nothing. I already spent all my coins about two weeks ago, reinforcing a lesson I should really know by now- if I want something, wait a while, then wait at least another month. Inevitably it goes on sale, or they will announce a version I like better.
Like when I finally bought my 3ds xl (after waiting til E3 was over in case new models were announced, which they weren't) and less than a week later the Link Between Worlds bundle with the Triforce 3ds was revealed. That's why I won't buckle and buy a New 3ds XL now, even if they are on sale this week. The standard size that I wanted will finally hit the states if I get an XL.
Why the constant need to stick it to your loyal customers? We're the only customers you have left.
Can you redeem for more than one of the same physical rewards? e.g. say I have 2000 points and want to buy 5 jigsaw puzzles?
@Jayrcee Don't see why not, but why would you need more than one?
I got 550 coins i might buy myself a puzzle idk lol.
@Spoony_Tech
Yes!!
So here I am in Europe waiting patiently for 3DS Game Card Case to come onto the catalogue (it should happen given America and Japan both had them in updates) only to see it get a price drop implying there was not much demand in America.
And you Americans moan about the European club Nintendo, yet you get that ddeal. And we never got Doc Louis Punch Out neither, and probably never will.
Also, how can anybody complain about being an early adopter for the WiiU, Nintendo had the premium promotion for those with the premium bundle, and they extended it for an extra year when they didn't have to.
And they did a double promotion on Mario Kart 8. If you downloaded Super Mario Kart, Nintendo took that price off Mario Kart 8. Then they gave away a free digital copy retail game if you registered MK8 within the first week of it's release. And that free game added points to the premuim promotion too.
If you didn't take the opportunity of those offers, that's your fault and you can't really complain. I know that I won't, I've had over £105 worth off free games, and that more than makes up for the lack of an ambassador programme.
Good thing I've been mostly saving mine, but dang... I'm 15 short to get the MM bag................. If only.
People will complain either way... But isn't it better they actually made more than enough to everyone and now are getting ride of the extra, than most people being unable to get it because they didn't made enough?
So I spent 800 of my last 810 coins to get a puzzle that comes in a small bag when I could have spent half that and g it a game? Nice. Sorry, I know someone doesn't like that I'm complaining because it's all free stuff anyway, but it's still a bit frustrating
@Spoony_Tech I agree! I'm kind of ill now. I wanted that Zelda 3DS pouch, but got some Wii VC games instead because I was 100 coins short. That's lame of them!
Well well well, what a perfect storm. I had a bit over 500 coins left, waiting for just such a situation, and it just so happens that my brother has recently moved to New York City to get a master's degree. Meaning not only I was able to order the Zelda pouch, but also I have a US address to have it shipped to.
Of course they did. Ugh!! I hate.
No regrets spending my last coins on Urban Champion!!!
I must be in the minority that is happy about this since I figured this might happen (only got the 2nd smash poster set since it started). Well tba I thought it would be like EU and get more rewards but this is nice too. Still have 700 coins saved but I'll hold out again just in case something happens between now and June.
The heck! Has no one ever been in a store going out of business? First, and unfortunately it may come as a shock, no one is entitled to anything, hell not even the next day. Second, it's normal for stores that are liquidating all products to reduce price to ensure they will all be gone. As to what, well normally you would expect all the good stuff to go and the 70%+ off is usually the offal. Heck I'm sure that they are just as surprised that some really nice loot are still available. It's one thing to be a little bit upset that you missed out on some good deals, but to come off as Nintendo has cleverly pulled the wool over your eyes and slighted you big time is nothing more than asinine logic you would expect from a toddler.
Oh, everyone just get over it! You guys will seriously complain about everything Nintendo does; even when it's something good like giving discounts on their complimentary rewards, a service that they don't even have to offer us if they don't want to. It's free stuff so stop whining!
When you complain about other people getting a better deal than you or not getting everything you wanted because the prices were higher so you had to make a choice; you are essentially reverting to a small child whining about other kids getting more birthday presents than you. Grow up.
Also, I'm stoked to be getting more stuff for the small amount of coins I had left!
Well that's messed up. Thanks again Nintendo for burning your only loyal customers.
I feel bad for jumping the gun and ordering too early but there really wasn't much of a choice. Given Club Nintendo's past record for physical goods selling out the only safe bet for getting the items you wanted was to order ASAP. As they say: "Hindsight is 20/20." Still sucks though.
@Spoony_Tech Yep, would've had 1000 more coins. >>
I can understand why a lot of people are annoyed, but I never cared much about the physical rewards anyway and over the years I've gotten over 20 free games through club nintendo including Pikmin 3, Game and Wario, Pokemon X, Mario 3D Land and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, so I'm definitely not complaining.
@eLeightist
I just got that puzzle in the mail...and it comes in a damn plastic pouch...not even a box for our 800 points...
If only they had some Fire Emblem stuff...I would be all over that, but since I'm not a big MM fan I might not wanna get the jigsaw puzzle and I can't afford the bag... What to choose what to choose...maybe I ahoukd wait and see if they mark 'em down again.
I spent all my coins...
i youtubed the shirt and its ugggly. you got this HUGE mario overpowering your shirt on you hip area. just youtube unboxing and you will see. the graphic is so much larger than the image on the site. 350 though.. for a shirt
i could wear it inside out haha
Well, procrastination does pay off sometimes lol.
Just ordered the Retro Mario shirt. Got 125 coins left now, hope some games get knocked down so I can use them (and I really don't want the other physical items).
Just got off the phone w/ Nintendo. They said they're not doing anything about it right now, but definitely call in and POLITELY lodge a complaint about it. They're reps are usually super nice, so please do not be a jerk to them. Just let them know how much you spent on these discounted physical rewards and how much you would've saved if you'd waited to buy them at the discount. There's no guarantee anything will happen, but I'd imagine if they got enough complaints, they'll do some kind of compensation, if only some free digital games.
TLDR: Call Nintendo, POLITELY lodge a complain and something might happen.
Nintendo: 1-800-255-3700, options 5,1
@dizzy_boy
Yes....we in America get a deal that comes with 99% of us already blew our coins previously.
@hypercoyote
lol.......they won't do anything. People would be wasting their time.
@GreatPlayer
A price drop after a year isn't early.
All 3 consoles have had significant price drops from RRP within the first year. This always happens with every console. You paid to have it early, not to get a reward later for buying early. You got exactly what you paid for.
If they did this with the games I could probably get one more game with the coins I have.
@darthllama
It took me all of 7 minutes to call and place a complaint. I'm one to at least try something to make a difference. You never know, Nintendo did the Ambassador program when they dropped the price on the 3DS within 5 months of release, so I could see them doing maybe a digital reward as compensation here.
Got the puzzle! I thought it would have sold out by now, but it's cool that I got it for such a cheap price.
Glad I saved some coins until now so I didn't have to stick with just digital games.
For everyone mad about the price drop, just think of this as a clearance sale. Nintendo is now more motivated to sell these than they once were. Just because the price is lower now doesn't mean you're entitled to that lower price.
@Funbunz Exactly! By now you should know their habit: stating that price will not go down, as in the case of Wii U console, and then cut the price and package a better game one month later. Never buy their console until one or one and a half year later. Loyal Nintendo fans never pay: you suffer from severe game drought anyway and they will never compensate due to your loyalty to them.
ugh n0 way I was going to get the majora's mask messenger bag and it's already gone.
bye ;___;
If NoA has surplus stock of items they could always send them to NoE Club Nintendo as I've 5400 stars left to spend (annoyingly I wanted the Majora's Mask light but 5 of my points cards for 3DS & WiiU had expired so couldn't get it!)
I have 55 coins left...... this means I don't get shit.... I could have made other choices but whatever..... it WOULD be pretty neat if they did SOMETHING for their very LOYAL and long term customers that have a "less than usable amount of coins left over...... throw us a digital bone guys......
