I don't really see the problem. Want to play the game but don't want to play anything? Then don't pay anything. Your play time might be limited but you can still play it.
I wonder if Nintendo would care more if people refuse to download this or download it then never pay a single micro-transaction?
Good Luck but I think the games RCMADIAX has released are actually preforming well for the type of game they are. I think they are preforming better on Wii U than can be expected from other platforms. We will see.
I was hoping to see at least 1 big game from the developer this year but looks like that won't happen. (when I say big I mean standard indie size)
Hopefully they price their products better in the future, it could help a lot more with their sales I think. Their games always seem slightly more expensive then they should be in my opinion.
I have been interested in QoL but with no hard facts about what it is I can't get excited. It may just be talk and go no where or it may be the greatest thing since sliced bread...
I don't see the problem honestly. Before this you couldn't upload a Nintendo video without facing a copyright claim. So all they would be doing is making a second channel that is purly Nintendo. I don't see how it would affect your first channel (which most likely doesn't have any Nintendo videos or the videos you do have wouldn't be affected) The only negative I see is them spending their time making a video that may not make them money (which is already a possibility on their own channel, just more of a risk on their Nintendo only channel)
The vetting process will most likely just be like Nintendo's Lot-Check for games. They don't make sure the game (video) is good or delivers a positive message. They just make sure it passes all their legal standards. A lot of people are putting words in Nintendo's mouth about that part.
If the cut is 40% then I recommend that some YouTubers might want to make a second account that host just their Nintendo content, that way the cut is only 30%. It would also be interesting to see how views and subscribers are interested in Nintendo only channels and if it is negative might be good evidence that Nintendo should cut back on the individual video stuff.
It is currently in beta, both Nintendo and YouTubers should take advantage of this to prove how things need to change. Ignoring them isn't going to fix the problem. You need to have proof on how this won't work. So I encourage YouTubers to try this out, even if it is only with 1 or two videos.
Well Nintendo isn't stopping the community from being expressive. The only issue currently (in the beta) is the list of games. I hope YouTubers can calm down and follow these rules. It isn't like they will be missing out on that much. I heard Nintendo is only taking 30%
@Anyone that says this is going to stop people from making Nintendo YouTube videos
How is this worst than Nintendo just making a copyright claim? That is what they were doing. This way you can make Nintendo videos while making money and not receiving claims against your account. I understand how this isn't good compared to other companies (from your perspective) but isn't this better than what they were doing? So if you were already making Nintendo videos, how does this stop you? If you aren't making Nintendo videos then how does this negatively affect you?
These arguments always come down to one side saying "they shouldn't be doing this." and the other side saying "they have every right to do this." These stances aren't directly against each other.
Personally I think there should be more structure for YouTube videos. There are to many out there that add nothing and become popular by people not playing/buying those games or for how the YouTuber looks. More structured YouTubers (such as ProJared) are obviously different but the majority aren't. I think Nintendo also wants to make it more like a business partnership which may give YouTubers less freedom but it may make them even bigger (like those YouTubers that got to meet Miyamoto) But this is just a personal opinion.
Why is ZombiU so expensive. I would love to get it digitally but not at that price (I already have it physically, I just don't want cases laying around)
This is just going in circles. NintendoLife actually does get creatin things from Nintendo that they are allowed to put on their site. Fair use covers reviews and criticism. Fair use does not cover uploading entire works so you make money. You can say games are meant to be experienced by playing them, but that isn't how everyone experiences games. My wife is content watching me play some games. That is her experience. Some people are content with just listening to a movie and not watching it. Some people are content feeling the bass of a song without actually listening to it. There are multiple ways to enjoy entertainment. Ask any actor the proper way to experience Shakespear's work and they will tell you to watch a play in person. People still pay to see those works on TV and Movie screens. The way something is supposed to be enjoyed doesn't matter. What matters is that YouTubers are not following Fair Use and just throwing that in people's way cause it is easy to twist. I got to get to work but you guys have fun carrying on this conversation.
Personally I can easily ignore this. Why can't YouTubers? Many of them try to make a living off their videos. If Nintendo (or another big company) was going after my way of living, the way I support my family and I know I was legally correct and they were legally wrong then I would challenge them. I would risk my own life for the people I love.
The reason why YouTubers don't have a leg to stand on is because they are using copyrighted material. it doesn't matter if they are showing the game in a different way than it is supposed to be seen. The material they use is copyrighted, which is a fact. The owner of copyrighted material has rights that protect the way their copyrighted material is used. Nintendo is using their rights to protect their material. Team Four Star and other abridge series go through certain steps to keep their videos running (and part of that is not making profit off those videos) Why should another video that uses copyrighted material not have to go through any steps?
Might be relevant to the article but not the conversation that we are having. Not sure what part you are referring to, the "free advertising" remark or the fact that people aren't trying to stand up against Nintendo for what they think they can "legally" do.
@Yorumi
People go after big corporations all the time. What is stopping people from going after Nintendo? If they really believe the law is on their side then what do they have to lose? The reason why no one is standing up against this is because Nintendo have the legal right to do this and people are just upset that it is happening.
Can we put the whole "free advertising" thing aside? That has nothing to do with what is going on. This is about copyrighted material being used without the permission of the owner of the copyright.
It is just different ways of presenting the work. You can either experience the gameplay by watching someone play it or by playing it yourself. You can watch a movie on the big screen, tv screen, or whatever screen or stream it on YouTube. It is just presenting the work in different ways. This is just a big grey area but if Nintendo had zero right to do this then it wouldn't be happening. I wonder how long until someone takes a company to court for claiming copyright on a Lets Play.
The point is that YouTubers are showing massive amounts of copyrighted material. Whether it is the art, music, gameplay, characters, story, or cinematics it is all copyrighted. They should have to follow the same rules for any other copyrighted material. Nintendo is offering people a way to use the material instead of just taking down the videos. Nintendo is basically handing them the rulebook.
At that point what are LPers transforming? They are not transforming the gameplay. They are showing the gameplay, the cinematics, and the music all of which is copyrighted. Them adding commentary doesn't transform the work, it adds to it. I can't record a new scene for a movie then sell the whole movie + my scene without the permission of the copyright owners of the movie. It is not transformative.
@Yorumi if the game isn't important than why even show it? How do game sales get affected by YouTubers if the game they are playing is important. The fact is people are making money off copyrighted material without paying or partnering with the company that owns the copyrighted material. It is the reason why Team Four Star isn't making money off their videos (they make money off their merchandise) and they have the warning before every episode about who actually owns the content. This new Nintendo program is going to help YouTubers become a bigger role in Nintendo's marketing
I have a feeling this will be the first Wii U game to offer Hard Drive installation (like how the other two consoles require every game to be installed)
After playing through the first game twice, once on 3DS and once on Wii U, I am not to excited for this. I want to see more. I want to see Max's next adventure, not just harder levels. If there is more to this than just hard levels then I will buy it day one. If it is just hard levels then I will wait for a sale and will probably only buy it on 1 system
I bet someone has already said this but it isn't cross-buy. They said if you buy one version you get a download code for the other version... might mean that if I buy the Wii U version I can give my brother the 3DS download code.
@BLPs The thing is that you have to be able to separate the hate and the constructive criticism. As long as you make games that you are proud of then a lot of the hate will just brush off. Also I have noticed that as a developer never try to counter anything anyone claims is bad in your game and just celebrate what is good. If you start going on forums defending your game then you are going to have a bad time lol
