If Minecraft mania has taken over the planet, then certainly Cube Life: Island Survival has staked its claim for Wii U dominance. This Minecraft clone is now in #1 place in the Wii U eShop in the UK, Germany and France. Yes, that's right - above even Yoshi's Woolly World and Splatoon.
Slovakia-based developer Cypronia is not resting on its laurels however and plans to release upcoming update v1.1 scheduled for sometime in August which will offer the following features:
- Local multiplayer (Gamepad vs WiiU Pro controller + TV)
- Wii U Pro Controller support
- Pets
- 20 more items added such as doors
We are assured that the following issues found in the original release will be fixed too:
- Invert Y-axis button added
- HDR effect ON/OFF button added
- Hale of Bay – fixed crash
- Drowning on land fixed
- Better tool durability (axes, armour…)
- Hunger and thirsty drop slowly
- Water flood after loading fixed
- Animal drop items more frequently
- Increased gravity, when you fall
The creative mode also gets a few improvements:
- Icons do not change position
- Added explosives
- Added Flat terrain feature
- More colour blocks
We are assured that v1.1 is just the start and future updates will include even more maps for Survival mode and multiplayer, along with more animals, enemies and items.
Have you been enjoying Cube Life so far? Do you welcome these free updates?

Of course we welcome the free updates. I played the game very briefly and didn't think much - though my girlfriend has been really enjoying it. We'll have a blast on this local multiplayer for sure - especially since we can't do that on Minecraft. Well, we can on my TV, but not her old CRT.
Anyone here recommend this game? My nephew is keen, he watches Minecraft on YouTube but has never played it
Hm. I might ahould pick this up. Good on the developer for continuing to build (heh) on their base game. Now, I'm just hoping future updates will be designed to add more unique features that further differentiate it from Minecraft, rather than make it more like Minecraft.
Wow good to see this is doing so well. Congrats!
Good to hear the new features are coming soon, I've been wondering about them. I stopped playing the game because of certain issues, but they just so happen to be getting fixed so I might make up some space to get back to playing. Definitely glad durability and hunger+thirst are being fixed up because they both drop way too fast and it's not that easy to even get resources in the first place. It felt way too tedious to play at all.
Hoping they add Classic Controller support so I could try to get co-op that way, as I don't have a Wii U Pro. Keep the updates coming @Cypronia, this game has some serious potential to be a good one, or rather even better!
Those additions and fixes already sound pretty nice!
Not surprising at all, the Wii U Gamepad fits perfectly with these Minecraft kind of games. NoA missed out on a lot of money too as Mojang confirmed that Minecraft could've come to Nintendo platforms with Microsoft not being a barrier at all.
Is the local multiplayer a Co-Op experience or a vs. experience? The list calls it GamePad vs Pro Controller.
Glad to see they're continuing to improve the game I had a go when I was off last week I've still not quite fully grasped the crafting system as it's my first experience with this type of game but am sure I'll get there eventually.
I have been dragging my feet on getting this. I would rather have either Minecraft on the PS4 (which I really don't want to support Mojang since they have yet to give any reason for skipping Nintendo completely) or I'll wait for UCraft, since it seems like the better overall product. Glad they are giving people their full money's worth through updates. I have mad respect for them for doing that.
@Jayvir Which is why they have the game at a discounted price and even gave away codes on release.
They know the game isn't fully fleshed out yet, so they're providing it as it is but at a lower price before increasing it once they've taken care of things with the player's help. I think it's worth the price right now, it could still use a few more items, features and fixes other than the ones in this list but it's a great start and I can only hope they continue to give this game more longevity by fleshing it out accordingly.
Can someone tell me how the crafting menu works? All details please, because when I tried it before, it was forced touch controls and now that Pro controller support has been added it should be different.
@Jayvir Infact it has been revealed that Nintendo is the reason Minecraft hasn't come to Nintendo consoles.
I actually sent them an email with a few suggestions I had to make the game better, one of which was to make the sky and ocean not the exact same color for half of the day. Hope that'll be implemented, too!
@MJKOP: My kids (6 yrs old) are the same way. They had been begging for Minecraft, but are pretty keen on Cube Life atm. Ask to play it more than Splatoon. The controls kinda warrant me being there, as they tend to have a hard time controlling their position in the 3D world. But they are able to execute the structures they want to build. Might be a good alternative for the nephew.
@bluedogrulez thanks very much for the reply!
WAIT
So they wont fix the worst bug of all - enemy arrowsgiant spider web pass through walls to hit you?
(aside from that, great game, great update, im playing it too much, more than i should)
@MJKOP It has pros and cons over Minecraft. It's creative isn't as good, but it's certainly not bad. But the single player survival mode is more fun IMO.
It has that Cast Away (Tom Hanks movie) feel about it. Minecraft didn't do that for me.
It's well worth it's price IMO.
I look forward to the multiplayer too.
A great update to a great game! And this is just the beginning...
@Butt he has a 3DS XL, a Wii and Wii U, no PC. Thanks for all your replies
@MJKOP the difficulty is higher than minecrafts by quite a bit and you'll probably have to refer to the Internet a lot in survival mode but if he wants it strictly for creative mode then it is fun where it's at but I'd get it after the update. But it is a recommendation from me
why is Minecraft not on any Nintendo machine anyway?
@BarryDunne I'd rather not have guesses, the update has come, so...
I would appreciate the PDF though.
@Grumblevolcano when was that made a fact? According to an article on nintendoeverything, posted today, there isn't any reason why it hasn't been ported.
My guess is its because Nintendo is the only console maker that hasn't thrown money at mojang for a port.
I think Gyro controls are important.
Cube Life is a Wii U exclusive and shouldn't it be standard if it had Splatoon's accuracy?
And I'm fine with the tool durability. I have just crafted wooden and stone tools and those should break faster than, say gold, ruby or diamond tools. There's a sense of reward if you finally craft tools, weapons, and equipment from better materials and it would get lost if the early tools were overpowered.
I agree, it would be cool if hunger and thirst wouldn't drop so fast and an update that fixes all the known issues.
But the gravity is alright! I don't want to fall faster. I die too much from falling already, and I built a treetop area where I need to jump just as far as I can now.
I'd also like to plant trees, or trees that automatically regrow. I had to leave my island and build a new base in a different section of the map just to find a few more coconuts.
Yay, that's great! Still wish they were introducing the third mode I suggested...
Wait, this is coming in August?!?! Ugh... I guess that I'll hold up until then. I just can't handle the tool durability and drop frequency. I spent most of the game just farming for leather armor and pork. Plus, I remember mining five pieces of stone only to end up with a broken pickaxe. I'll be sure to hop on when this update comes. It is a very beautiful game!
I've been waiting for Ucraft which looks good but also very meh, but I won't get it if its delayed to next year.
Doors !!!!! Fantastic Cypronia !! An awesome game on the improve, thanks so very much !!!
Now just waiting for the oz release
I am 55+ days into survival but I stopped playing because of the some of the issues that will be fixed soon and for lack of time (Splatoon is still taking up a lot of my gaming time). Looking forward to the local co-op because my son and I have been dying to play the game together instead of one watching the other play. Great job Cypronia!
Bought this today and really like it. Multiplayer will be a welcome addition.
Good game so far, but the frequent crashes are annoying…
Anyway, my current suggestions @Cypronia
Survival : Random maps, Oxygen meter should refill much faster.
Creative: It should be possible to remove the HUD and weapon for nice screenshots.
Keep up the good works!
@Cypronia By the way, just in case you missed my suggestions:
Being Adventure Mode, it should also have a backstory, and an end (but letting you play AFTER the end too). That's why I would change the way the cannibals look (just dress them differently, couple of variants, some white too), as they won't be 'cannibals', but thieves, part of a big criminal organization based in one of the islands (that can be randomly placed on the map when the game start, so for every player will be different). The player has to find it, destroy their base and eliminates the boss of the organization.
I hope they also include classic controller and not just controller pro for the second player. I would like to do 2 players but not buying a new controller just for that. Shouldn't be too hard to include that as well.
Oh my. I never knew this game existed. I liked Cube Life 3D but I found that nights were way too dark. I wonder if nights are just as pitch black here.
When's the update????
I think you should make a way for everything to otomatice and add water bottles and sprinting and crouching and add a water refinery to refine your water.
I aggree with that other guy. When is the update

anyone know when the next update is
when is this update
i love this game
@AwesomeDj: This is straight from cypronia (rec'd yesterday): "As you may know, we have just roughly planned the first updated around August. Now, the update is completed from our side, it is under testing and it will be send for Nintendo approval soon. If everything goes well we will release it in September."
I would like it if in survival mode it started you on random islands instead of the same ones everytime
WHERES THE UPDATE!!! YOU GUYS SAID IT WOULD BE RELEASED IN AUGUST. WELL AUGUST IS OVER AND THERE IS NO UPDATE!! I THINK YOU JUST DROPED IT AND GAVE UP!!
please just tell us a for sure reales date. its making alot of miiverse people angry. and im going insane waiting everyday for dissapointment.
