A few weeks ago, Game Grumps revealed it would bring its popular title Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator to the Switch and mobile devices in the “very” near future.
The estimated release date of 2nd July has now appeared on the North American eShop. It will set you back $14.99 and is expected to take up 2.7GB of space. We've also got an official confirmation from the Twitter account:
The Switch version is expected to be the same as existing releases, where you create your own Dad, date dads, unlock multiple endings and play Dad-themed mini and microgames. Read the Steam description and view the trailer below:
You and your daughter have just moved into the sleepy seaside town of Maple Bay only to discover that everyone in your neighborhood is a single, dateable Dad! Will you go out with Teacher Dad? Goth Dad? Bad Dad? Or any of the other cool Dads in this game? With minigames, sidequests, and a variety of paths and endings, Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator is this year's most anticipated Dad-based game.
Will you be downloading this one on release? Tell us in the comments.

@Galenmereth Can't say I found the appeal of sim games like this. Are the stories that good or something?
Where's the Dream Mommy game at? I wanna see hunky milf moms with dreads, big hooters and cameltoes that I can date.
@Kalmaro Dating sims take the self-insert fantasy to the extreme. And yes, they usually live or die on the quality of their stories...
And their "plot". lol
@Godlike_Virus I know it's just a username, but "Godlike_Virus" is a terrifying thought to me.
@Heavyarms55 Cool! 🤘🤘 It's actually two of my favorite KMFDM songs.
I call the ginger bear on the right! .......
..... I mean, cool release, not into sim games, just not my genre. But glad there is variety!
We're reaching Wii / DS levels of shovelware
I think you guys might be taking this game a bit too seriously. It’s all a bit of a joke really, the funny tone in the writing is what makes this game.
Do you only get to date the dads or can you have sex with them too?
I'm asking for my dad...
If I buy this does that make me gay?
Well at least it's not dating pigeons.
Will never buy this🤪
If you look closely, apart from the plus sized one and the one with the long hair - the others are exactly the same face.
@gcunit : It enables you to live out your hypothetical what-if-I-was-gay-and-subconciously-fancied-my-dad fantasies, that is, if you're into that kind of thing.
For once, I think Japan has been out-weirded on this one.
Bit behind the times here. Still playing Splatoon 2 and God of War. Looking forward to catching up and playing 2019 classics like this.
Not going to buy it.
@gcunit
"If I buy this does that make me gay?"
Absolutely NOT
You are still the same, it won't change your sexual orientation. 😉
(After checking from ESRB , the age rating and contents for Dreamy Daddy)
Okay, rated Teen for Sexual Themes, Language, Use of Alcohol and Tobacco. Not really explicit gay games, eh ? 🤨
But those shirtless hunky daddy..... 😘
Oooor, they can just bring Sims 4 to Switch. (:
Star bomb had a funny short skit about Dream Daddy promotion. This game and other visual novel sim things aren’t my boat, but I can appreciate that folks have more options. See a market, sell to it.
If only they released this on the DS, as it has the blow feature...
@Kalmaro The lady and I bought it in Steam on a whim a while back. The writing is pretty funny. There is a parody Pokemon battle you do with one of the dad's early on where you use your kids achievements as attacks.
The game doesn't take itself very seriously, just kick back and enjoy the zaniness.
I had to to reread the eshop page to make sure I was reading the game description right, lol. If it were a tad bit cheaper, I'd consider trying it out. Sounds like real riot 😂
This is actually a great little game and I love the impact it had when first released. Well worth the price tag, but also fun to watch on a stream if you are unsure if these kind of visual novel dating type games are for you.
I think I may have to pick this up still, heh. Just seems amusing enough as a random addition to my collection(and, no, not of daddies 😅).
Speaking as a (single) hot dad myself, I approve Glad there are games out there for all kinds of tastes.
The price is too much for me, but I might get it in a promotion. I love how fun and not taking itself seriously it is, but I'm not into those dating games.
You guys who complain about this...know you don't have to buy it right? Oh no, it's a dating sim that doesn't involve women, it's not like the switch is already DROWNING IN THEM
@Fazermint
This is actually a decently rated game elsewhere.
@Galenmereth
Maybe for you. For me personally, the way someone treats their kid tells me everything I need to know about them. Great litmus test.
@TeslaChippie Utterly valid litmus test too!
Even if this was aimed at men and full of women I still wouldn’t buy it. Just not the dating sim player (he says after wedding Leah in Stardew Valley).
@deadpixels Haha
I generally don't enjoy typical dating sims either. I like the dating mechanics in Stardew and Rune Factory 4 though (eerily similar games by the way). I'm actually working on an action-adventure / dating sim hybrid game myself
@gcunit Yes, very.
@TeslaChippie Funny you mentioned that. As I was typing that I had a few ideas for a dungeon crawler where you’d get buffs dependant on your relationship level. I was trying to mentally create a game where dating could draw me in, even that idea failed.
However, it went a long the lines of you can date multiple people to get multiple buffs, but the best buffs only come from a solid relationship. I still wouldn’t play that, but it was a fun mental excercise.
Game of the Year contender incoming. Dad for Smash confirmed?
@gcunit Buying this absolutely makes you a homosexual.
Expect your card in the mail.
@Indielink That actually sounds hilarious xD
Is it weird that I think at least one of these dads will be voiced by Jontron?
@Ralizah Hey! I never got a card!
Now that I read this semi-train wreck (seriously a lot better than most threads, bravo), wanted to shed light on this.
First the game: Never was into VNs, but always been curious as to why almost every homosexuality focused game is ultimately forced into the fantasy dating scenarios. Like, why can't people write stories like Fear Effect anymore? Always feels very one-dimensional goal focused.
That being said: Let this game exist, the conflation of the anti-SJW crowd is just as bad as the progressively minded that bursts out at everything. The people made this game intentionally to be this vision, that's what we've been fighting for is protecting against censorship. You can touch it, it won't make you gay.
Okay, why did my last bit of my response get edited out? Max characters?
10/10 Excellent, would dad again.
@TempOr My question was intentionally posed in a way that it could be interpreted in at least two ways.
a) Does just the act of a male buying the game (implying that they are interested in dream Daddies) confirm that they're gay?
b) Could playing a game about 'shirtless hunky daddy' make someone gay?
And in doing so, secretly also asks the question, "Can anyone be triggered by posing a harmless question?"
Day one purchase
@deadpixels The game you are trying to think up is the entire Persona series.
@Kalmaro it's fantastic.
@gcunit
"a) Does just the act of a male buying the game (implying that they are interested in dream Daddies) confirm that they're gay?
b) Could playing a game about 'shirtless hunky daddy' make someone gay?"
A. Ah, who care if you buy a male dating sim game. If you really have genuine curious / interest with handsome dudes, just go ahead. Remember, even The Sims 4 already celebrated the pride, rainbow flag of LGBT community.
B. Oooh.. I have played The Sims 4 just for Beautiful houses, Vivid neighbors, Activities and.... A lot of Shirtless Six pack guys. 😛
I felt like in heaven to able to create my handsome six pack guys walking around my town. 😘
Can’t wait, Day one for me!
I kind of want to play this.
I was confused at first. I was thinking you're one of the daughters going around dating people's dads XD
@gcunit Nah, it won't make you gay... though it couldddd confirm something depending on what you enjoy out of it, yeah. Hey, you could just enjoy the humor involved in it. There are the odd gay guys that buy Senran because they are amused by the jiggly mechanics or whatever.
Your first question reminds me of this valid meme I've seen where the question basically is 'so guys are expected to play with hunky men action figures and that means you are straight yet guys who play with 'pretty girls'(dolls) are gay? 🤔'
@Anti-Matter Six-packs need to just go away. They ain't attractive, my friend. 👌🏾
@YourLastSurprise Well...about that...
@Paraka
Try Swery's The Missing
oh, ignorant as ...kind of people are coming. Just dont buy it and move on, k?
Is this appealing to straight males? There is no way on gods green earth you can be straight, be who you want to be but this is for the gay community, saying it’s the humour and good writing that You will play this as a straight is a complete cop out of admitting that this is your thing as it interests you.
@Paraka dude calm down lol straight males don’t want to play this not because they are against gays but because they have ZERO interest in the storyline! Like the game about dating pigeons, don’t want nothing to with it. Also yes this game is for gay people which is nice they have games like these, the target audience is not heterosexual males.
Watched playthroughs. This is a really cute game. They should make a lesbian dating sim next!
@gcunit playing pretty much every other game on the market didn't make me straight so the answer to your moronic question is no.
So are you playing as a dad dating other dads?is that ehat it means by dad creation?
@rjejr I totally forgot about this that vid! xD
@Dalifano yep, you're a single dad whose lost his wife/husband (depending on what you identify as.) And is starting to get his life back together again dating dudes!
It's really sweet and funny!
Cool, can you unlock more dads to date? And why we have this and not Love Plus Switch or Tokimeki Memorial 5?
@Deathwalka think of it like this: gays, lesbians etc. Have been enjoying all these other movies and shows for a pretty long while now. And there's not a lot of gay romance in that. But I'm still rooting for people to get together and stuff. I really enjoy the moment they finally make out or stuff.
This is the same. I've seen a lot of open minded straight guys actually really enjoying this. The game is really funny, there's a nice plot, It's a good game!
It doesn't immediately turn you gay, just like everything else doesn't turn me straight!
@dimi every dad has it's own campaign, but you can't unlock more. I should check out your suggestions!
I can't get into the theme of this game, but I'm glad its out there for those who can.
@Deathwalka
Straight man here, and I'm going to play this. I've spent the last 30 years playing games starring dudes like me. It's always refreshing to get an opportunity to play as someone very different from myself.
Nothing about this makes me uncomfortable. I don't know why it should. You can't turn gay any more than you can turn straight. (But, like, who cares if I did turn gay. Oh no, now I like dudes! Darn!) You are what you are. If this game is making you feel something, maybe explore what and why. You might learn something about the world or yourself (or both).
@Deathwalka - Uhh, not sure where I am upset or had heightened emotions. My response was initially towards the little spat of "Oh Gnoes! A Gay Game!" That is seemingly been cultivated out of the comment section.
Literally it was just me simply saying to let it be, cause it is. My only grievance was about why, when it comes to homosexuality, do games generally take a VN direction. Which is more a simple observation than anything.
It's a VN, so I ain't down. But there is a weird dating like dungeon crawler where you date human personifications of your weaponry being developed. Steam has a page for it, and I am actually down for that.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/674930/Boyfriend_Dungeon/
Cool, fun story but visual novels leave me cold
@Godlike_Virus You have literally described just about every other game to come out of Japan over the past decade.
My gut feeling tells me it won't but I hope this game gets treated the same way other fanservice games gets. As in, if it gets a good grade they will mention it will be despite the fanservice, like they usually do in the ocationally review of games with fanservice that gets a decent grade.
@KennyBania Well, they are digital pictures, so technically... No.
For those asking if playing a game with a dating sim element to it might change one's sexuality, the obvious answer is, if that the vast majority of gay men would have been turned straight as children because they've constantly been exposed to heterosexual relationship material in games, movies, etc.
That said if you do play the game and start wondering, congrats you've discovered that you're at least somewhat bisexual.
Is it bad I kinda want to play this? Then again I played Lovers of Aether
This sounds hilarious. It might not look great but giving where it comes from I imagine the writing is solid. Wont be picking it up for itself as it's not generally the sort of game I like, but I might recommend that the wife does
@gcunit @Ralizah
@rjejr What film is that - I've never seen it but it looks like I should have done...
@TempOr let's try another thought experiment: would buying and enjoying gay porn make me gay?
Looks like this game has missed Pride Month then, that's a missed opportunity.
@N64-ROX for you and other people concerned, there's no explicit or graphic sexual content in this game.
@gcunit Stripes. Fun early 80's comedy film.
@garfreek again I don’t think anyone in this thread has said playing this game will turn you gay lol
@gcunit What @Ralizah said. Bill Murray was everywhere back then - Caddyshack, Stripes and Ghostbusters were his triumvirate, Meatballs was my favorite. I think most people know him from Groundhogs Day though. Never did see that one.
@Lalivero
"Six-packs need to just go away."
Six pack guys are my favorite. 😘
@rjejr You've... never seen Groundhog Day?
You should see Groundhog Day.
It's an amazing film, with a nearly perfect blending of comedy, drama, romance, existential horror, and a meaningful theme that doesn't club you over the head.
@Link-Hero @Link-Hero hmm I personally wouldn’t say straight, I think only game reviewers who are straight would have reason to play. Like I said you are all on about the humour and great story telling which is about being GAY and wanting older men, no matter what way you try to portray it, does not change the fact it appeals to gays, bisexuals or men who think about other men in that way. Nothing wrong with if that’s want people want to do but please don’t pretend straight men enjoy it because of its great humour and storytelling which is based around the sexual desire and comfort of older men! Instead of people hiding their feelings just embrace it, you are what you are.
@Deathwalka
In that line of thinking, only people with criminal tendencies enjoy GTA; only people with murderous tendencies enjoy Mortal Kombat; only Japanese people enjoy Persona 5; only women enjoy Tomb Raider...
You see, none of those concepts threatens your worldview, so you see no active connection between enjoying the role-play and the character of the player. But as soon as the game is about a minority sexual identity suddenly we all have gay tendencies inside.
I do embrace myself, and I'm not the least interested in men sexually. No shade, just not my jam. I'm interested in this game, though, because I hear it's a well written lark and I think it's cool to spend some time in the shoes of people who are different from myself. I'm not sure why it needs to be more complicated than that. The fact that you seem utterly driven to make it more complicated says an awful lot more about your inner conflict than I think you're prepared to face.
@Ralizah It is weird. I kind of feel like I don't have to now though as I've seen 50 First Dates. Which I'm sure wasn't as good but close enough.
@rjejr ...you're comparing one of the best films ever made to a cheap Adam Sandler comedy.
Are you trying to make me sad?
@Deathwalka If straight people can play Zelda, they can play this fine.
@Ralizah It's really a cheap Drew Barrymore movie. That's how I got through it anyway, by ignoring the co-star.
@rjejr
Psst...
Oh, wait.
We have seen a "gay" couple from Beauty and the Beast 2017 Disney live action movie.
I guess you have already figured it out. 🤣
@TheDanslator how do I seem “utterly driven” lmao what by telling my opinion?
Also your example is one of the worst examples to try and relate my post with, it’s completely comparing apples and oranges.
You seem upset by me pointing this out, you advocate so much for it yet can’t understand why you might want to experience the dating of older men in a safe simulation. There is nothing wrong with if you want to, but my point is legit. I wish you were with me now, I’d take you for a drink or even to my huge workplace and we can ask the actual GAY men we have in the office, one is a friend and he 100% agrees with me! So you need to come to terms with that your opinion is very much in the minority. Again you can do what you like and there is no need to tell me your sexuality, just accept it and everyone. But my point still stands that no true straight man has an interest in playing this, that’s all so stop getting offended at your own insecurities.
@Beatley82 😂 that is the silliest example of I’ve ever heard!
@Deathwalka Sure, man. Whatever you say.
@Anti-Matter If you're talking about the video I posted I think it's from 2015, four years ago, so they probably didn't know about that 2017 movie yet. 😉
