Re: Reggie Defends Continued Support Of 3DS Line, Believes Next Gen Of Players Need To Start Somewhere

DarkKirby

Looks are article.

Looks at 3DS upcoming game release list.

The only "new" game Nintendo is actually publishing is the Bowser's Inside Story re-release.

And there are like 3 or 4 new games total coming out in the next 5 months.

There are no resources being "drained" into the 3DS, and furthermore, I haven't actually heard any complaints about that in the first place.

And Nintendo has said in the past they weren't going to stop supporting the 3DS even though nobody believed them and it very clearly has happened.

I feel like this quote was made more to try and draw attention to the 3DS and try to squeeze out more sales since the 3DS, or the 2DS, which is what Nintendo is really pushing in commercials for kids, rather then because anyone was actually complaining about the 3DS being supported, which it isn't.

Re: Random: Nintendo Is Now Refusing To Offer Stock To Amazon France After Disagreements

DarkKirby

Based on the description in the article, another possible reason was Nintendo was probably afraid the Switches being sold at a lower price than they wanted would devalue the Switch everywhere, and thus refused to sell it to Amazon France if they discounted it too much (even if it was Amazon who was taking the hit of of the discount).

Another example of this is how many luxury retailers straight burn their unsold products because allowing them to be put on sale would devalue their brand.

Re: Hands On: Starlink: Battle for Atlas Feels More Like A Star Fox Game Every Time We Play It

DarkKirby

Not sold yet but Starlink is seemingly doing what Star Fox fans have wanted for a long time.

Advancing Star Fox in both game play and story(?) while keeping it a game about space vehicle combat.

Most importantly, it's not Star Fox 64 again.

Although despite being a spin off, I assume this means they are rebooting the Star Fox franchise from 64 again since it's Peppy instead of Krystal in the game.

Not sure about the business model for this game though.

Re: Nintendo Keeps Switch Online Cloud Saves For 180 Days After Membership Expiry

DarkKirby

I hope people aren't going to congratulate Nintendo for alleviating a problem they intentionally made themselves to try and sell people on the subscription service.

And it still doesn't solve the self created issue of not being able to back up your saves to the SD card offline, and the only back up option being a paid subscription service.

Reminder that nobody has a paid subscription service as the only means to back up your saves, including Nintendo before the Switch.

Or the nonsense of not allowing certain games be backed up because they think it'll be used for cheating.

Re: Telltale Games Begins Majority Studio Closure With Mass Layoffs

DarkKirby

They made some good stuff in the past but got too complacent with a never changing formula.

At this point, they're probably the most famous company for the use of "illusion of choice".

That said, I wonder if they're even going to finish the final season of their Walking Dead game at this point.

I also really liked they're unique portrayal of Batman, which had a heavy focus on Bruce as an actual character and not just "Batman's mask".

Re: Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - An Old-School Point-And-Click Adventure In Every Sense

DarkKirby

If you like point and click games this game is okay.

It's a traditional point and click and like many of them you're often solving problems in unconventional ways.

The story is okay, I wouldn't say it's amazing, but they do a decent job of pacing out the story to make you want to find out more of what's happening (and keep playing).

There are times when what you have to do to progress the story is unclear and too abstract, and you may need to look up what the game wants you to do in a guide.

At least that's what I remember from when I played this a long time ago.

Re: Soapbox: Why I'm Not Excited About Playing NES Games On The Nintendo Switch

DarkKirby

Despite Nintendo suing tons of emulator sites before the launch of the Nintendo Online Service, people having been playing NES games for free on emulators for years already.

You can play NES games on your phone through an emulator app, which is actually more convenient than on the Switch, even if it wasn't free.

So the perception of value for NES games is practically nothing at this point.

Re: Senran Kagura Reflexions - Cheap Titillation Masquerading As A Love Story

DarkKirby

@Moroboshi876

The main Senran Kagura games are beat-em-ups, in which while the hook is the destructible clothes, most fans stay because they grow to like the characters, many of which have pretty good stories written behind them. But the games have many spin-off titles, and this one of them. In no Senran Kagura game, is there actual nudity. At most in any game, you see censored nipples and crotches via a white light.

Re: Telltale Admits Its Game Engine Has Let Fans Down In Recent Years

DarkKirby

The "Telltale engine" could be improved sure, but that's not what fans are let down by.

It's that Telltale games, by now, are quite famous for their use of "the illusion of choice".

The games give you a bunch of choices, they even tell you your choices are important, but it's all lies, at the end of the story, none of them really matter.

You can never really save someone with your choices, if someone is scripted to die or leave, the best your choices effect is when and how it happens, you can never actually stop it.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Urges Game Developers To Embrace Subscription-Based Services

DarkKirby

Saying "games as a service" is "necessary" for the game's industry moving forward is like the nonsense EA spouts about how nobody is interested in single player games anymore, when the real reasoning EA isn't interested in making single player games is not because of a lack of demand, but because it's difficult to convince people to spend money on extremely profitable loot boxes and micro transactions outside of multiplayer environments.

"Games as a service" is the biggest scam the gaming industry wants to work after loot boxes and micro transactions.

Screw that, I like to actually own the things I buy, thanks.
