Re: Sword And Shield Leakers Required To Pay The Pokémon Company $150K Each

DarkKirby

"At the time, The Pokémon Company's legal representation said it caused "irreparable injury" to the brand and undermined the carefully cultivated excitement and interest in the new games."

Sure, but the problem in general with the Sw/Sh leaks was the game itself, and those leaks weren't from a strategy guide. It sounds like they're essentially trying to make an example of these people to discourage other leakers, the ones that leaked things that actually mattered, and that they couldn't catch.

And truth be told, while I'm sure sales were lost, it's not like Sw/Sh was anything less than amazing sales wise. Pokemon games will sell in huge numbers regardless of the game as long as you call it a "main" line game.

Re: Sinnoh Confirmed: Pokémon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Officially Announced For Switch

DarkKirby

You thought main series Pokemon games couldn't be lazier?

Rather than actually remake Sinnoh in actually 3 dimensions with Sw/Sh's poor engine, which would already be low effort, they took a step further than that, and kept the layout the exact same and replaced the sprites with 3D models made to look like the sprites with the same terrible fixed overhead camera angle.

I guess if you're really a huge fan of retro graphics you'll be happy though.

Re: Paper Mario Is Coming To Switch! Paper Mario: The Origami King To Launch This July

DarkKirby

Look, nobody can take away from this game that it looks visually stunning, but the "shiny boots" attack has me fearing they've gone with a disposable item based battle system again, considering I don't see any FP either.

Now, I'm not of the opinion that every Paper Mario game need to be Thousand Year Door, but every disposable item based combat system Mario games have tried have ended up being terrible, so I don't know why they keep trying it.

Re: Atlus Says Its Survey Asking About Switch Ports Exceeded Expectations

DarkKirby

Atlus, if you were not aware, is infamous for releasing almost all of their games on a single platform, and never porting them.

How the heck does Atlus actually think nobody wants games on any platform outside of the Sony ones or whatever one platform they put a game on?

Of course people want games to be multiplatform, because not everybody owns that 1 platform you put the game on.

And before someone restates the tired old excuse that Atlus can't afford to make their games multiplatform, the entire point of making a game multiplatform is to make more money off of already completed work with minimal effort.

I'm not even just talking about the Switch, which would take more effort to port modern AAAs to because of the hardware limitations, they don't port their games to the PC or Xbone where the transition would be much easier either.

Re: Goku (Ultra Instinct) Is Joining Dragon Ball FighterZ As A DLC Character

DarkKirby

@Smashfan502

Exactly how does Ultra Instinct Goku specifically make Dragon Ball FighterZ better "as a game" over another character that isn't another Goku?

We don't even know how he plays yet, so you can't make a judgement on how he improves the game mechanically.

And if you're arguing that any new character would improve the game and it doesn't matter that it's another Goku, than that argument works both ways, and any other character would have equally been welcome.

And most people don't want even more Gokus.

Re: Nintendo Won't Be Required To Offer eShop Pre-Order Refunds In Norway Or Germany

DarkKirby

You really shouldn't pre-order in general, because you never know what issues a game has that are being hidden. No, you can't "just trust the publisher", because their job first and foremost is to make the sale, honesty is only relevant if it increases sales.

If you're purchasing digitally, the game literally can't be sold out.

Pre-order bonuses are terrible to non existent these days as well.

That said, while Nintendo didn't do anything illegal, because they do things like ask you to agree to waive all your rights when making a purchase (which is itself a problem), not allowing a refund on a pre-order is simply anti- consumer, and that is the problem.

What the law decides is legal does not equal moral, and certainly not pro-consumer.

Steam in comparison, allows people to refund games within a few hours of playing it.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy With Smash Bros. Ultimate Challenger 5?

DarkKirby

I'm not invested enough to be upset but even if they were added a Three Houses character, Byleth is basically the safe boring choice.

If the claim that the DLC was decided before the game was released is true, that means Byleth was decided upon before anyone even played Three Houses.

The fact that Nintendo delayed the reveal until the middle of January means they knew Byleth wasn't going to be well received, January is the month companies have deemed non profitable and dump all the things they need to get rid of.

So who is this DLC for? Not Fire Emblem fans, because the series is already represented, and if they actually wanted to make Fire Emblem fans happy, they'd make one of the house leaders playable.

This DLC is likely just filler to put in the final slot of the first fighter pass since mystery season passes are often front loaded to convince people to buy the entire pass and people who would have purchased the season pass already have by this point.

Any characters they think are impressive and would make people happy they're going to front load into the second Fighter Pass, since they require a brand new purchase and can bring in more income.

Re: The Original Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Games Are Being Remade For Switch

DarkKirby

I liked the first 2 Mystery Dungeon games (after that the story went downhill), but if this is purely a graphics update I'll pass.

I want more out of a "remake" than just updated graphics to justify playing it again.

Similarly, as much as I loved the original Link's Awakening, I was not interested in Switch "remake", because it was basically the exact same game with a newer graphics (arguably a worse art style).

Re: Hang On, Competitive Pokémon Fans Are Liking Sword And Shield's National Dex Cut

DarkKirby

It wouldn't be better or worse, I'd be the same with different Pokemon.

Because of the turn based nature of the game, there will always be a handful of Pokemon that dominate and define the meta. And that issue stems from the balance of the game being poor in the first place.

To that point, people who play Pokemon purely for competitive reasons don't really care about the Pokemon selection, because they will always just choose the best Pokemon anyway regardless of what they are.

Re: The Pokémon Company Is Taking Legal Action Against Sword And Shield Leakers

DarkKirby

First of all, you really, really shouldn't pre-order games.

Doing so means you have nothing but the publisher's marketing team to go by on if a game is good, and it's a salesmen job to sell you a product no matter what, regardless of how honest they are being.

Second, this lawsuit is essentially advocating the right of companies to dishonestly advertise and sell their products.

I'm not saying you shouldn't enjoy Sword/Shield if you like it, but there was a very much intentional lack of information shared about Sword/Shield because Pokemon Company knew it might lose them some sales.

Did it tank sales? Of course not, it's Pokemon, it's pulling in money by the truckload like usual.

But things like how many Pokemon were cut, the reused models and animations, the popping, the performance issues, poor online, and the general lack of polish the game has is something customers have a right to know, and trying to use lawsuits to silence people who want to tell people about these problems is scummy as heck.
