The first official trailer for Beyblade Burst: Battle Zero on Nintendo Switch has just landed, giving us another look at the Joy-Con being used as ripcords in the game.
As you can see above - if you make it through all the hectic excitement - the game has you using your left Joy-Con to set up the Beyblade's position and angle, before using an imaginary ripcord by holding the Y button on the right Joy-Con and pulling back. Once you and your opponent have flung your Beyblades into the arena, you can move your Joy-Con up and down to increase power during the battle.
With over 40 characters available to choose from, and with more content than any previous Beyblade title, this one looks like it could be a great entry into the Beyblade franchise of games. Unfortunately, there's still no word on a western release date; the Japanese release of 25th October is coming up fast with no hints at a release elsewhere.
Still, if you're thinking of downloading this one from the Japanese eShop and playing the game anyway, or if you'd just like to learn a little more about it, make sure to check out these videos showing matches taking place between two players. Again, all speech is in Japanese, but you should hopefully get the general gist of what's going on.
Would you like to see this one come over to the west? Let us know with a comment.

I can't believe this is still a thing. I had some of these and a toy arena to battle in when I was like ten, but now that I'm older I can't believe I ever thought these were cool. There was no strategy or anything to the toys, you just let 'em rip and hoped yours kept spinning longer than your opponent's. I know the Yugioh anime was just marketing for the cards, but I didn't really notice it until I watched the Beyblade cartoon.
@Dalarrun I caught my baby brother watching the show yesterday... It's so crazy, haha.
@Kalmaro
Haha, I mean I can see the appeal of having spirit monsters or whatever in these things, the tiger is what hooked me in the show and why I wanted the toys!
@Dalarrun I would have preferred something cool like.. RC cars or something.
Also, your profile pic looks familiar, where is it from?
@Kalmaro
The Ancient Magus Bride, it's one of my favorite anime of the past couple years!
@Dalarrun The Ancient Magus Bride! I knew it was something with a bride. I'll see if I can get buy a manga. Thanks bro 👍
Aw man, I wish they had a game like this when I was a kid and into Beyblades. I don't care for gimmicky motion controls now, but in this case, it makes sense and really got the old fanboy in me going...
Seems to lack the luster of the first ever season of Beyblade. Where are the stadiums with differing environments? Why can't you just move the beyblade wherever you want? Grind, do awesome tricks and balance? And what about the abilities and bit beasts? There were some awesome abilities in the anime, like sinking the stadium and just being forced to fight that way? Or fighting in the midst of a tornado. Like... if they implemented a lot of the anime elements into the games (first season) it'd sell so much better. I'm sure of it.
LOL
The Showdown of Gasing that peoples (the Anime characters) cried and yelled about.
It just only a Gasing, what do you expect from bumping each others ?
yes please! please bribg to west!
@Dalarrun just bought volume 1. Read a sample and I'm already interested.
0:37 in the video. Jesus Christ... How is this still a thing? 2007 nightmares...
@Haywired
Well, typical Japanese Anime about showdown.
To summon a Powerful energy or Guardian creatures from Bumping Gasing for me was like a Hyperbolic way to play Gasing.
What a LOL LOL LOL Way to play Gasing by yelling and screaming Imaginary Creatures to get the power to beat Gasing's opponent.
3, 2, 1, Go. Go? Really? "Let 'er rip!" was the best thing about the show.
Missed opportunity not having NFC chip enabled blades. The blades could be in 3 parts like the toys, each part with a chip. Skylanders had dual pieces years sgo, surely they could do 3 now. Or if not, just 2, top and bottom. It's Japan, they would sell.
In Beyblade lore Moses split the red sea with a beyblade.
Beyblade is one of my daughter and I favorite things to do together. If it comes west I would pick it up for sure.
Neat use of the Joycons, but I'd rather play with the real deal, and I outgrew those things over a decade ago, anyway.
My eighth-grade self is getting all giddy over an use of motion control that's been years in the making. Dat nostalgia.
That's pretty cool. I was into Beyblades in the early 2000s, the novelty wore off rather quickly, but I still think some of the characters on representing the toys themselves were cool.
@Dalarrun @ReaderRagfish I'm pretty sure all the strategy rests in shouting "Go Dragoon!" and then looking angry. I remember playing Beyblades with my little brother when we were young... I only really liked the ones with the silly gimmicks like the pop-out spring or magnets.
I didn't understand a word but if it's a 6 or a 7, I will pick up a copy for my daughter and I to play.
@Kalmaro Love this franchise. When I see it, Im overcome with positive emotions. I can still here the echoes of 'Let It Rip!' or Pegasus!!!!!
@rjejr Being able to own a legit NFC Genesis Valtryek or Spryzen even the old ones like El Drago would be insane!!!!!!!! I HYPE!!!!!!
