Re: Nintendo Tells Mobile Partners To Limit Microtransactions So That Players Don't Spend Too Much

DarkKirby

I mean, this doesn't actually mean anything. It may even be a publicity stunt.

The point of microtransation based games is to keep people playing, and get the small amount of whales to pay a lot of money to be better than the free to play players (cosmetically or mechanically).

If you are too aggressive with the microtransations, your game will not succeed, you have to find the right balance.

If the game is too unpleasant to play for free to play players, they won't play it, and the whales have no reason to stick around, because there is no point in paying tons of money if you can't be superior to other people for it.

Re: Talking Point: Is The Remake Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Worth $60?

DarkKirby

Value is subjective, but is what looks like the exact same game with a different, but still not impressive, and in my opinion, ugly, visual style, worth $60 to me?

No.

And I liked Awakening.

For my $60, they needed to make a Resident Evil 2 Remake level of remake. You know, where it actually looks like a AAA game from 2019, not a 3DS game from years ago.

But the fact of the matter is, Nintendo knows there are enough people who will always pay full price (or near it) for Zelda anything.

Re: Random: The Conspiracy Chatter Is Growing: Maybe There Is No Star Fox Grand Prix

DarkKirby

Nintendo has obviously given up on making more Star Fox games since they're not 64 remakes, and are going to turn all their new game ideas into Starlink DLC instead.

The thing about an actual Star Fox racing game though, it wouldn't make any sense.

The one time in the story Fox and Falco actually did race, nobody else did because they were doing something else, it was why they became racers.

Sure, you could bull crap a story about how Fox needs to win something in a race to save the Lylat System system or something, but that premises is as stupid and Fox not being allowed to use modern weapons in Dinosaur Planet because "you're there to save it not destroy it (even after it's obvious there is alien activity influencing the planet already)". And yes, I know that game was turned into a Star Fox game for marketing reasons.

And I don't hate Dinosaur Planet, but I don't want a forced premise just for the sake of marketing it with a certain IP that doesn't work with it.

Re: Feature: Please Understand: Unpacking Nintendo's Vision For Metroid Prime 4

DarkKirby

I didn't have my hopes really high for Metroid Prime 4 or anything, but all this congratulating of Nintendo for "being honest" and "owning up to their mistakes" is nonsense.

Maybe what they said is true, but we have no evidence to show that the game was ever seriously in development at all, and Nintendo isn't the first company to use the excuse of "it wasn't up to our standards" to explain why a game was delayed or cancelled.

Re: Nintendo Participating In Virtual Reality "VRM Consortium" As An Observer

DarkKirby

So, these are VRChat avatars for other games?

At current I know there exist people who take commissions to design VR Chat avatars for people to their specification.

So this is a business based around that?

If you don't know what VRChat is or what application VR Avatars have here's a video.

Be warned that VRChat in general has profanity in it because it's mostly used by adults, and this video isn't an exception.

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate's World Of Light Mode Focuses On The "Loot Grind", Rather Than Epic Cutscenes

DarkKirby

Gameplay > cinematics

That's a statement without context. Yes, some games like Bayonetta are fun to play even though the story is pretty nonsensical. But it still has good production value.

We look at a game like Dragon Ball FighterZ, the game play elements are mostly just normal matches (with the AI having a lot of HP), but they give each fight a lot of story context, and it has tons of voiced character interactions, which is the main thing you want to see in a cross over type game.

The Project X Zone series for example, has tons of amazing character interactions.

From what we know about Wold of Light the "game play" is mostly just event matches.

To be honest though, I didn't really expect someone who previously made Kirby games to prioritize good writing.

Re: Sakurai Reveals Why Kirby Was The Only One Who Survived The Smash Ultimate Apocalypse

DarkKirby

There are characters on the Smash roster that can teleport.

Fox, Falco, and Wolf are expert pilots, but are not in their Arwings (or Wolfen) and are trying to intercept an invading force on foot instead.

The Warp Star's abilities are story dependent. It's been shot down by cannon balls before.

He chose the character he made as the destined hero, that's fine enough. Trying to justify it beyond that is just bringing attention to the flaws in your own story.
