Re: Nintendo Will Now Let You Upload 64 Courses In Super Mario Maker 2

CoastersPaul

@shaneoh Someone checked, and levels stored on the system, including the thumbnail, take up 480 KB. So 32 levels works out to 15 MB. Minus some compression, plus some extra for comments, like/boos, and player stats. 64 levels works out to 30 MB.

Dropbox gives you 2 GB for free. Google Drive gives you 15 GB for free - a thousand times what SMM2 gave us at launch. Nintendo should be able to handle a few dozen megabytes for the much smaller group of people who bought a $300 console, a particular $60 game, and are paying up to $20 a year for their online functionality.

Re: Class Action Lawsuit Officially Filed Against Nintendo For Switch Joy-Con "Drifting" Issues

CoastersPaul

I've had one set for a year, which I used nearly exclusively for ~6 months before buying a Pro Controller for Smash, and another set I bought a few months in and used a little, mostly in December. Neither set has drifted, but I've also barely used the Switch over that time compared to some. So I'm not going to blame other users.
Nintendo's a big company. They can afford to be held accountable for $80 controller sets where half is prone to break. The lawsuit will try to prove that they're defective and finally answer that question, but don't worry, Nintendo will get a chance to prove that it's user error, so you all don't have to do that for them here, for free (I assume.)

@Anti-Matter Try building a computer in either of those other games. Or making your own game within the game, or just making huge automated farms.
On PC, there's mods and resources packs to make it look better and add more details. And mods adding even more automation, extra dimensions to explore, expanded movement options, an expanded height limit by saving the world as cubic chunks rathed than the 256-tall squares... and basically anything anyone's ever thought Minecraft was missing.
I don't see why the Switch version is so popular, though. It really works best with a keyboard and mouse.

@personauser93 I'd imagine it's pretty easy to port everywhere, and people who want it are probably just going to go with whatever's hooked up to their TV. Might as well just port it everywhere!
It works pretty well for large groups since you don't need to focus on the TV too much, and you don't need to mess with controllers.
I think a little of it every so often is pretty fun, if you've got a good group for it.

Re: A Sequel To Pokémon Snap Won't Happen Unless There's A "Very Unique Twist"

@Noid Why should Nintendo port Mario Kart just because the fans demand it? There's already 8 of those games! EIGHT!
The last console F-Zero was 16 years ago on the GameCube. (The last handheld was 15 years ago but Japan-exclusive!) You might as well cancel Mario Karts after Double Dash sold less than 64! And good luck trying to find a copy these days. But, fine, plus the virtual console that makes three F-Zeroes on Wii. The Wii U virtual console had GBA games, so if you can use the Japanese virtual console, and mod your Wii U to play GameCube games, that makes six (but all the GBA games look like and play mostly like the first, so why bother?)
None of that matters, because there's 0 (ZERO!) F-Zero games playable on Switch. So I'm having to scratch that itch with new futuristic racing games on PC.

@Heavyarms55 In what world are the new card arts "nothing remotely risque"? Mostly, the new outfits and poses fit the rest of the game better, while still being plenty sexy enough.
Succubus was replaced with something that honestly made more sense for its effect. Removing blood from Eviscerate is dumb but... hardly noticeable. Deadly Shot... okay that one's just worse, I'll give you that. Bite also seems unnecessary, but the new art looks good, so I don't hate it.

If DKC Tropical Freeze can push 1080p and keep a stable 60 fps, I don't see how this game couldn't have done just one of those.
I don't really care which. Full 1080p would've made up perfectly for a more stable 30 fps than we got. A smooth 60 fps would make up for even slightly lower than 720p, IMO, and the input would probably end up at least feeling less laggy.

Re: Nintendo: It Would Be A "Disservice" To "Loyal Fans" To Release Animal Crossing In A Rushed State

@Lord It's quite possible BOTW 2 releases in late 2020 (Kotaku's Jason Schreier thinks there's a decent chance) if they pull another Majora's Mask. They've had one and a half years since the last DLC already - they could've started some of the work even before then, and they have a solid foundation to use. It'll be three years by 2020, which is standard for a lot of games that aren't from-scratch Zeldas.

Re: Breath Of The Wild's Sequel Came From Having Too Many DLC Ideas, Aonuma Says

CoastersPaul

@KoopaTheGamer They totally could've handwaved it by having the corruption/blood moons/etc. continue after "defeating" Ganon, so Zelda had to go away to find the cause (setting up the sequel?), and you were free to keep exploring.
The end took away any enthusiasm I had to keep playing - I didn't really want to go back before defeating Ganon, even though I really wanted more Zelda. Sure, every Zelda game does this. But does it have to?
The DLC did get me back in for a bit. But at this point I just want a new game.

@CupidStunt Have you seen the terrible launch of Chrono Trigger on Steam? The fact is, most people don't seem to want graphically "UPDATED" versions of retro 2D pixel-art games. Full remakes? Fine. Early 3D? Needs some remastering. But the old look is part of the charm for a lot of people - especially by the SNES, which I'd argue holds up pretty well graphically.

Re: Korean Ratings Board Suggests Luigi's Mansion 3 Will Be Ready To Scare This Summer

@Nico07 MK8 is still the top Switch game - practically a must-have when getting the console - and I don't see them wanting to cut into its tail. Releasing a new Mario Kart would mean MK8's online would probably get killed off earlier, and MK9's online would struggle with a much smaller install base for some time. Both games would be less valuable for it.

On the other hand, I'd easily pay $30 for a few new DLC cups.

Re: Nintendo President Comments On The Risks Of A Potential Hostile Takeover

CoastersPaul

@rjejr Miyamoto gone means a chance of a new, good Paper Mario; a new F-Zero; a new Starfox with good controls...
He's significant as the last of the big three left, but I think his importance these days is sometimes overstated, and the negative impacts of the older Nintendo sensibilities aren't stated nearly enough.

And while the question being asked is significant, it's also possible the question could've been posed by a "smaller" investor wary of a hostile takeover, since that could destroy the value of their own shares, particularly if the new owners just don't get it and tank the company.
