With all the hype surrounding the next Animal Crossing game, the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC and Super Mario Maker 2 more recently, we wouldn't hold it against you if you forgot Luigi's next spooky outing for the Switch is also due out this year.
In case it slipped your mind, Luigi's Mansion 3 was first announced by Nintendo during a Direct presentation in September 2018. We got a teaser displaying the work in progress, but since then, there's been little to nothing revealed about the game. In fact, every news item so far has been tied to a retailer listing.
Now, it's been discovered the game has been rated by the Game Rating and Administration Committee in South Korea. This suggests a release for the game could be happening as soon as this summer. While this might not be the most surprising news given the fact E3 2019 is less than a month away, it's reassuring to know the game is still on track, following the delay troubles with Metroid Prime 4.
In February, a UK retailer listed Luigi's Mansion 3 for a July release, which would obviously follow on from the release of Super Mario Maker 2 in June, but would clash with Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The only information Nintendo has provided so far about Luigi's third solo adventure is a "2019" release date. Even on the official website, it's still listed as a working title.
Do you think this game will be released sooner rather than later? Are you looking forward to its arrival? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

I enjoyed both Luigi’s Mansion games. I’m ready for the third. I need something to spend my second voucher on.
That's a lot earlier than I expected! I mean, they haven't even released a trailer yet, have they?
Man, maybe this E3 is gonna be really nuts!
This was supposed to be a spring game. TwT
Ugh, buying games is difficult lately, bleh. At least I'm lucky with Mario Maker 2 being near my birthday, lol
Kinda hope its October as long as links awakening drops in a different month.
Am I the only one who wants it to come out in October? Think of how cool it would be to celebrate Halloween with some Luigi's Mansion 3.
A Halloween release would be more fitting marketing-wise but hey, I'm not complaining if we get it earlier!
No @Morrow your not, the people right above and below your comment want it too.
I hear it will have a hard M rating.
@Joeynator3000 It was never said that this would be a Spring game. It has always been a 2019 release and it has never gotten a smaller window than that.
EDIT: Might you be thinking of Fire Emblem: Three Houses? That was given a Spring release before being pushed back to July.
Agree about october but if we get it earlier.. I'm not complaining xD
And hell no, I didn't forget, how could I forget about luigi? ^_^
A lot of exciting games coming out this year, and some of the speculations about what the DLC for smash could be sound amazing
can't wait to see more during E3.
It seems like it's always one big Nintendo release a month, at the most. Having Fire Emblem and Luigi's Mansion in July seems unlikely. Nintendo might have so many games that are ripe for release right now that they want to do that. That would be exciting because I'd guess it means they have a big game for every month through the holiday season. Link's Awakening, animal crossing, Pokemon, ... I can't think of two more to fill in July through December. I guess Pikmin 3 could be ready, possibly. Maybe another Ubisoft game that's a big Nintendo crossover. Maybe Mario 3D World is getting a deluxe release on Switch this fall? Oh yeah, what about Bayonetta 3? That could be a fall 2019 release. It could be so packed that they want to release Luigi in July. I sure hope so! I also hope it runs at 60 fps!!!
I definitely didn't forget! LM3 is one of my most anticipated releases this year along with Astral Chain (And that Retro Studios project involving the robot hand--I know it's coming!) After Dark Moon, LM is now an important, established franchise for me. Was so hyped last year I replayed DM for kicks, in fact.
So ready for this!
@Philo Yep,I reckon Retro's Robot Hand will be revealed at E3.
Yeah not seeing it as a summer release. Probably be spooking it up with Medievil in October. Man, this year is looking rough on the wallet.
Can't wait. My 4yr old goes round the house humming the theme and shouting Mario after watching me play the original GameCube version. God I love the wee spud...
@Joeynator3000 Wrong. Nobody ever said this game will come out on Spring.
If this is true, Nintendo is publishing 4 games in July! DQB2 (in the West), FE:TH, MUA3, and LM3.
@NintendoByNature
Zelda is 99% the middle of november. So Luigi’s Mansion would be the release from october then.
So after a dry spell Nintendo has it’s next big self published titles spaced nicely over the next 3 months:
Mario Maker 2 28th Jun
Dragon Quest Builders 2 12th July
Marvel Alliance 19th July
Fire Emblem 3 Houses 26th July
Astral Chain 30th Aug
That really just leaves September, October, November, and the first week of December that Nintendo usually has releases. In that period they have to fit:
Daemon X Machina (Listed on the eshop coming soon page after Astral Chain)
Luigi Mansion 3 (assuming it’s September?)
Oninaki
Zelda
Dragon Quest XI
2 Pokemon’s (likely to keep its usual end of November date)
Animal Crossing
Town (if it hasn’t been delayed to 2020)
And possibly one, maybe 2 unannounced games
That’s a lot of games before any 3rd party published stuff has to find spaces as well. It’s going to be a bit of a log jam...
I highly doubt Luigi's Mansion will be release during the summer. I'd say October is the earliest possible release date - a Halloween launch would be ideal from a marketing perspective.
The sooner the better as far as I'm concerned, it's been a quiet year so far on the Switch front with Mario Maker being the first game that I'll be buying, so a July release is more than welcome
Both summer and fall are going to be insane, even seeing some months having 2 big exclusives, which is insane to me
I shiver knowing that nintendo hasnt released their full line up for this year
I was hoping luigis mansion 3 comes out before super Mario Maker 2 but they coming either way so that’s good.
Now just show us that pikmin 4 you have finished
They really need to bring 1&2 HD to switch aswell.
Most have never played 1 or 2 lol
This and Astral Chain are my most anticipated 2019 games.
Surely it's an October release for Halloween?
Really doubt it, summer's completely packed already. October seems much more likely to fit in with Halloween.
@MrGawain Position in the coming soon section of eshop for games with only 2019 release doesn't mean much, otherwise Cadence of Hyrule would be coming after Pokemon despite the Nindies Showcase saying Spring 2019.
This year is absolutely insane with major Switch releases
Fitting it in with Animal Crossing/Pokemon and Zelda being out before years end will be tough. The timing of this release will be key to its sales....
If it were to release within a couple of weeks of either of them it could really suffer.
Ideally it suits an October release alongside Halloween, but that may not happen.....
Strangely for me I'm looking forward to it far more then Pokemon and Animal Crossing, it's more my type of game.
@JHDK for the sexual or the violent content?
@NintyNate they have been released on the 3ds already, i doubt they will re release them again on switch.
@Morrow Or you could wait until Halloween then play it
Remember that until september 21st is still summer...
I see it. I actually see it coming out a couple weeks after Astral Chain.
@carlos82 It won't come in July. Fire Emblem and Marvel Ultimate Alliance are coming out during that month, it would be a complete nonsense.
A summer release (if this is true) wouldn't bother me at all. It's never too early for Halloween in my book.
I'm not sure a summer release would be best really, seems a better game for those October/November nights.
@JHDK Rated M for Mario is stuck in a painting again
@the_beaver I agree it's unlikely but I'd definitely take Luigis Mansion ahead of both of those games
I was hoping October so I can have some time with the other upcoming releases personally... I suppose we’ll find out soon!
@Muddy_4_Ever I thought it was a dash of both... 🤔
Looking at my diary I've got Mario Maker 2 in June, Fire Emblem in July and Astral Chain in August. I can do September?
I would love to see it this summer, but I seriously doubt it. It still only has a working title and it seems more fitting for Nintendo to take it's time and release around say Halloween this year. Luigi's Mansion for 3DS released at that point and I would assume this is the same.
I know Nintendo will have some surprises for us at E3 but I doubt this will be one of them. With the Mario Kart app releasing this July I would say one of those surprises will be Mario Kart 9 this summer or Fall. Mario Kart 8 will be five years old at the end of this month, it is long overdue for a sequel for this generation. I would love to see more Mario Kart 8 anti-gravity courses as well as a slew of retro courses. It would also be nice to see the option of Double Dash two man carts as well. E3 just can't come soon enough.
@Nico07 MK8 is still the top Switch game - practically a must-have when getting the console - and I don't see them wanting to cut into its tail. Releasing a new Mario Kart would mean MK8's online would probably get killed off earlier, and MK9's online would struggle with a much smaller install base for some time. Both games would be less valuable for it.
On the other hand, I'd easily pay $30 for a few new DLC cups.
@CoastersPaul If Mario Kart 8 becomes a service with new paid circuits, etc I'm fine with that. But we are over two years into the Switchs life with no original Mario Kart content and we are overdue. I can also see a Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 9 co-exist for online. Either way something needs to happen, consumers and Nintendo shouldn't be okay with no new content from Mario Kart on Switch. Most like myself assumed Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was a stopgap until the next entry was ready.
Please, PLEASE bring back ScareScraper. That'd make my summer complete. Best mode in the series, easily.
Please re-release Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon for the Switch with Amiibo compatibility and checkpoints. Without them the game is way too difficult.
@huyi they should! The 3ds is meh they need to be remade.in HD for Switch
@Morrow just play in October
Really looking forward to it. Since I'm not into any cultural "festivities" like halloween, for me they definitely don't have to wait until then. Just don't rush it either.
Even if I didn't have enough to keep me going on Switch, I recently got a used PSVR and plenty of fun to have with that yet.
