The uphill indie platformer Celeste will soon grow in size, with the creator Matt Thorson - on behalf of the team at Matt Makes Games - revealing the free ninth chapter DLC will include more than 100 levels.
The current game already has more than 700 levels in it and the next chapter is expected to ramp up the difficulty yet again. As previously revealed, it won't include any strawberries and will be more streamlined than previous chapters.

As Thorson explained in his follow-up tweet, the DLC has missed an internal target, so there are no plans to reveal a release date until the team is absolutely positive the game is ready to go.
Have you downloaded Celeste from the eShop yet? Will you be trying out this DLC? Tell us in the comments.

Oh wow, that's way more than I would have expected. How exciting. Celeste is my favourite 2D platformer of all time and I can't wait to get stuck back into it with some fresh content.
I enjoyed watching Raocow play this one. It's quite the hard game.
I'm waiting for this to be in a decent sale then I'll add to my list of games I'll never see the credits to
@Heavyarms55 I actually find it easier than a lot of other 2D platformers due to the controls just being so tight and intuitive. Certainly gets a little crazy from a level design point of view later on though, which makes it all the more satisfying to get through.
@BigE It was on sale just recently.
Hope they release it soon as we are a lot of people waiting for the physical release from LRG.
Got this on Xbox with games with gold. I will be playing this once I beat the core
Impressive number, especially for free content! Can't wait.
@BenAV yeah I ended buying a couple of others in front of it, I'm sure it will be back on sale again soon
Waiting for it (2018 GOTY)!
I hope they don't go mad with the difficulty on these. Slightly harder than the main quest levels would be good but some of those B- and C-sides were a bit too much.
@BenAV I agree with you! Even though I clocked over 5000 deaths, it is still in my top 3 platformers. Difficult: yes, but the controls are so good, the path to jump is usually obvious and the restart times are super quick. Add to that the great story and this game deserves all the praise that it got.
@dystome Opposite for me. I found everything in the game challenging but it never got to the point that it was too hard. Felt like my skills got better at about the same rate as the game got harder so it never got overwhelming. Need a new challenge now that ramps things up and pushes my skills a little bit further.
Got LRG release ordered.... what a game this will be
Love this game so much. I can't wait for this DLC to drop. I'm so ready to get my butt kicked by Celeste Mountain all over again.
I'm just sad I missed the chance for the LRG special edition.
I guess they mean 100 screens, rather than levels. Like the main game is divided in chapters.
I saw the credits and was very happy to do so. I destroyed my thumbs in the process, can't get past a single screen of the B-sides (let alone C-sides!?) and I'm shocked that devs like this one and the Hollow Knight dev seem to be so compulsively generous that they want to keep adding free content to games which already released with more than most dedicated gamers will ever even see.
Meh it’s not even that hard. I died a lot because a lot of the platforming was like a puzzle but you can’t see far enough ahead sometimes to know where to go next which is more frustrating than difficult. Definitely not a 10/10 game like a lot of critics say. But whatever I’m pleased I got in sale rather than full price.
I haven't been excited for a free content update like this in a long time. Celeste is on my top 10 platfomers list of all time, joining some Marios, DKCs, and Downwell
@sandman89 "It's not that hard. I died a lot..."

For the grand majority of challenges, you can easily see what you have to do. Very few of them have "forced" level scrolling (eg moving platform). No idea what you're talking about.
Can't wait for this to come out...only to presumably have the aid of Assist Mode to pull me through the new chapter. (It is supposed to be the hardest in the game.)
100 more? Seems like level spam. Yikes.
The major frustration for me when playing this game was my dodgy pro controller D pad, which regularly mistook a clear diagonal input for a horizontal or vertical one. I'm not sure if my particular controller is buggy or if others experienced the same problem, but it really detracted from my enjoyment of the game. I switched to the thumbstick, but I don't think it's the best way to play this kind of game.
I'm probably going to restart it when this comes out. I finished the main game, but I'll for sure be jumping high when the dlc hits
This is great news! I wonder if it'll feature some new tunes.
@JohnQuixote Yeah I only tried the Pro controller once with this, but quickly switched to 8bitdo while docked. I mostly played in handheld, though and switched back and forth between my d-pad and thumbstick. The d-pad was best for any linear movements, but for me the curvy movements in the feather parts were only playable with the thumbstick. I can’t wait for the extra content.
I have yet to download this game. I can't explain what makes me hesitant, but I am.
I like my DKCs, but this was just too hard for me. And the graphics and at least the start of the soundtrack weren't doing much for me. Looks like a great game and I understand why people love it, but it's just not for me.
I'm both excited about and dreading this. I love Celeste but, man, it kills me (thousands of times).
Best game.
Pro tip: Use GameCube controller
@Quarth I can’t remember, is the Limited Run Games physical release expected to include this DLC on the cart?
@Hordak Yes, that’s why it has been delayed. Glad they decided to hold out for it though. I’d rather have the complete package on the cart!
@Hordak The LRG edition was supposed to be shipped at the end of March, but when the DLC was announced, they decided to wait for it. And that's a good deal, even though we have to wait a little longer for our copies.
@BadWaluigi2 well if you read my comment properly I explain why...... not through difficulty just bad game design. Tropical freeze for example you can clearly see where you are going next and if you die you likely have made an error but Celeste a lot of the time something happens before you even see where to go next. All trial and error and not a massive amount of skill involved.
Been waiting for my physical from Limited Run, but they are keeping it until this DLC is released so that the full game is on the cartridge.
@BenAV i picked it up in the recent sale but yet to give it a go. Just finished the steamworld dig games, and now jumped back into dead cells. I will definitely start Celeste soon though
@dystome It requires completing the C-Sides to unlock and is supposed to be harder than those.
@XerBlade Ha! Well, screw that then. I've got plenty of other games to be going on with.
