It would appear that those fortunate enough to have been selected to take part in the closed beta test for Mario Kart Tour are starting to be notified via email. If you applied for the chance to take part, make sure to keep an eye on your inbox.
Last month, Nintendo opened beta test applications for Android users in Japan and North America. The test was said to be taking place "in order to improve the quality of the game" before its expected summer 2019 release.
It seems that Japanese applicants were the first to be notified, with emails reportedly asking those who have been successful to refrain from posting any images or videos of the game online. Naturally, we'd expect North American applicants to also be informed pretty soon - especially considering the beta test itself is taking place this Wednesday.
We'd also expect to see plenty more info on this one before it launches, maybe at E3 or in a later Nintendo Direct - after all, we really don't know all that much about it just yet. Summer 2019 doesn't feel too far away, though, so hopefully we'll be zooming around mobile circuits before we know it.
What are your hopes for Mario Kart Tour? Do you think it will be an enjoyable take on the franchise, or do you have any concerns? Let us know in the usual place.

Europe forgotten again.
Sweet, I hope I get in
"refrain from posting any images or videos online" ... that rule is going to be broken first thing on wednesday, i guarantee it.
I just hope Mario Kart 9 is a worthy successor... take your time Nintendo, and make it good!
Looking forward to being able to play Mario Kart 64 in absolutely any situation! Still not sure how well the 4 player split screen will work on my Nokia 3110 though.
@Folkloner here's hoping.
Ah just what mario kart needs Pay to Win mechanics .
My hopes for this game?
NO. MICROTRANSACTIONS.
That's all. The Mario world is thus far clean of this filthy business practice. Keep the Mushroom Kingdom clean! If this game has any sign of this practice then I'll be staying as far away from it as possible.
Mario Kart for the smartphone, sigh. Got my hopes up they were doing a new Switch game
@Yosher Didn't they announce already that Mario Kart Tour would be free-to-start, as with Mario Run? Nintendo's never stuck microtransactions into a paid game, so if my memory isn't failing me, then the game should be in the clear.
@PikaPhantom I really hope you're right about that. I don't really recall them announcing that though, I might have just forgot (short-term memory and all).
@holygeez03 I'd much rather have more MK8 DLC cups rather than having a new MarioKart cannibalize 8's online without the install base to have good online immediately itself.
@holygeez03 This is not Mario Kart 9.
I'm in the US and got my email just 3 minutes ago. Now let's hope they don't change their minds after they find I'm rooted. Lol
Got my email and I am ready, have some high hopes for this if done right the Big N will have another massive success with this one.
I have been chosen!
Yes! I've been chosen! So excited to play..... I mean test it out
I just want to be able to play solo cups like a normal MARIO kart. Let me pay money and buy a full version with AI karts to race against with 20 or so tracks at least and a good selection of racers and karts
@holygeez03 I hope Mario Kart 9 has a Single Player/Adventure mode like other kart racers have had
I just got the email about getting an email for the game. It lasts til June 4th. Woohoo!
I'm in. US here...
Can't wait to see what's to come
@zever if it's anything like pocket camp or Mario run, then it probably won't work if rooted. I had that issue on my tablet before masking my root. My phone isn't rooted though so I'm super ready for this beta to release in a couple days.
Looking forward to release!
If I have to buy the full version, fine.
If there are micro-transactions, then keep this away from me.
Why do we need a mobile version of MarioKart? Just answer that for me!
My expectations? Some sort of kart driving sim, where you can only do one race per couple hours, don't have direct control, and have to excruciantingly slowly upgrade your Kart in order to compete.
I got my email this afternoon!
Sweet just got mine can't wait
@forgottenarctic, Most likely because there are far and away more people on and with a Smartphone than a Switch, PS4, Xbone or PC combined. Other than that we don't and I am surprised Nintendo is releasing one of it's staple franchises on the free to play market though I'm sure it will be a massive success story for Nintendo.
@Romeo-75 It just seems sacrilegious, that's all!
I'm quite curious to see how they pull a Mario Kart-esque / racing kind of experience off on the phone. I've doubts
"...asking those who have been successful to refrain from posting any images or videos of the game online."
That doesn't mean y'all cant 'describe' what kind of game this is exactly. I have a hard time believing it's just a regular action racing game, those never translate well on mobile.
Thanks for the heads up! I got one this morning after and didn't notice until I saw this.
Got my email yesterday morning, can't wait.
It’s out now in Japan. Heavy monetization built into the game.
