It makes sense, with costs of hardware production and net profits from them going further in the negative (they were already selling them at a loss), it makes less and less sense to be both a developer and a hardware manufacturer at the same time. Better to partner with those that specialize in PC hardware and take that financial burden off yourself, make Xbox more a service that makes PC's more accessible to casual gamers. The PC and other console manufacturers get an expanded consumer base while Xbox uses brand recognition to get more subscribers outside their previously limited hardware infrastructure.

Hey you know what, I'm glad they're not rocking the boat too much. Nintendo found their niche, you don't have to start your library all over again, and it has huge appeal for both kids and won over adults like myself who got off the Nintendo wagon after Gamecube, but was won back over with it's ease of use and fantastic support of third party developers alongside some of the best 1st party Nintendo games since the early 2000's in their last iteration.
