It makes sense, with costs of hardware production and net profits from them going further in the negative (they were already selling them at a loss), it makes less and less sense to be both a developer and a hardware manufacturer at the same time. Better to partner with those that specialize in PC hardware and take that financial burden off yourself, make Xbox more a service that makes PC's more accessible to casual gamers. The PC and other console manufacturers get an expanded consumer base while Xbox uses brand recognition to get more subscribers outside their previously limited hardware infrastructure.
Can we stop acting like Nintendo ever made an overarching world or mythology in their games? They’ve always been gameplay first, graphics second, story last.
There’s just some games you don’t play on Switch, but that’s ok it’s a different tool for a different function. There’s some games (ie Witcher 3, Elden Ring, current Doom series, etc) that I only want to play in full 4K on a 60”+ screen and can leave at home.
Yeah dark Batman from the movies and video games was always “my Batman”. Even as a kid I tended to avoid “campy Batman” so I mostly avoided those LEGO games, I’m legitimately looking forward to this LEGO tribute.
I don’t get why they’d change the Switch box art style, original Switch had my favorite box styles of any generation. New box is atrocious. Oh well, I mostly buy digital anyway.
@MrCarlos46 Exactly, as long as the hardware keeps improving (which it is) it's going to be a no-brainer for hardware designers to implement versatility into their consoles, guaranteeing portability will be an essential industry standard in maybe 10-15 years time. Nintendo and Apple were a major push in that direction.
@jfp Agreed I think Nintendo, Steam, and even Microsoft are showing the days of large box consoles are fading, people like versatile play options (and not in with Nunchucks cough Wii cough🤣)
Hey you know what, I'm glad they're not rocking the boat too much. Nintendo found their niche, you don't have to start your library all over again, and it has huge appeal for both kids and won over adults like myself who got off the Nintendo wagon after Gamecube, but was won back over with it's ease of use and fantastic support of third party developers alongside some of the best 1st party Nintendo games since the early 2000's in their last iteration.
I can see it. Honestly since it’s got confirmed backwards compatibility and carryover of features from the Switch, I doubt Switch 2 will sell as well, there won’t be as urgent of a “need” to access its library of games for more casual consumers.
Yeah they've already said Switch games would run on future hardware, plus if that weren't the case they wouldn't be investing in AAA material so late in the Switch's life.
The thing that usually keeps me from upgrading systems is the prospect of having to start my library all over again. So glad console developers have figured out how crucial this is.
AI has been vastly and annoyingly overvalued. It’s handy, but like most shiny new tech fads (yes, it’s a fad) it will cool off. And no, its not going to attain God-like sentience, it will always have its limits.
Totally agree. This is one of the reasons I prefer Nintendo or indie games. Nothing kills my interest in a game more than a prolonged opening cut scene or tutorial. If I want a long video I’ll watch a movie, if I want detailed instructions I’ll play a board game.
