@wummle That would be good. Seems such a waste for them to be absorbed into the Fortnite maker but obviously they saw what they were capable of I guess..
@Thomystic Exactly this, this direct was emptying the barrel of what left for the Switch. They are filling the next year or so with big names but relatively easy to make games. A 2D Mario, a Luigi remaster, 2D Peach game etc... The time consuming next 3D Mario, Mario Kart, Metroid 4, will all be saved for the next console at this point.
@Banjo- Yes, I agree, the Switch has been abit "same again" as it's recycled alot of the Wii U games. Being a loyal Wii U owner has had it's pitfalls. I really could do with a new Mario Kart now and a Toad Treasure Tracker 2 would be great and of course a new Donkey Kong.. It has worked out well for Nintendo as all they had to do was port them across to the much larger user base and watch the sales fly in. However, for those of us who have already played them it's very underwhelming to say the least π
I believe the same as johnvboy in that after the disaster that was the Wii U they have managed to build up a strong brand with the Switch. I would think the next console is a follow up to the Switch because of this. I would think it will be backwards compatible too, from a business perspective this all makes logical sense. The only slight worry I have is that Nintendo is Nintendo, I'm sure you know what I mean by that. You never can quite tell with them. I hope they don't go off course with some gimmick for the next console... While I believe that to be very unlikely it needs to be mentioned, and with the failure of the Wii U I strongly think and hope they proceed with the sensible path of expanding upon the Switches success with a more powerful and backwards compatible variant.
On answer to your second question, if it's revealed next year I believe they will go all out like with the Switch. They know that it will need to launch with a must have title. Breath of the wild launched with Switch and basically sold the system by itself. They will want to replicate this again. It will have been over six years since Odyssey soon so I would like to think the Switches successor will launch with a new 3D Mario.
Nintendo ensuring that the Switch goes out with a bang. A jam packed second half to 2023 with the Peach and Luigi's Mansion title to look forward to in 2024 before the likely successor launches in the second half of 2024 π
@johnvboy Exactly this, a great direct, however, I think Nintendo has literally shown their remaining hand with everything they have left for the Switch. The Switch will certainly go out with a bang though, 2 Mario's for the Christmas 23 season with the Peach title and Luigi's Mansion closing down the Switch generation in 2024.
We still have a great amount to look forward to before the Switch successor launches between June and October 2024 in my view..
Detective Pichachu/Pikmin 1 & 2 HD plus that Wario title are great additions for the Switch in it's twilight years. Nintendo's being very generous towards the end of the Switches life it must be said.
Although, I do now think that Metroid 4 and the rumoured Twilight Princess/Wind Waker HD Collection will now be saved for Switch 2 or whatever they decide to call it at thus point.. π€
@Cashews I was thinking of getting Bayo Origins but will admit I had forgotten about it since. Yes, Nintendolife's review did seem abit harsh, especially when ign gave it a 9/10. I might look into picking up a preowned copy I think, thank you for the advice π
Still not actually purchased it yet. I will do soon, TOTK, Pikmin 4 and Beyonetta 3 which I picked up recently but have yet to play should keep me going till Christmas I'm sure.
TOTK would be the perfect swansong but we know a new system is at least a year away. However, there is still no reason why the Switch can't go out with a bang. One last holiday season coming up, as long as they can announce 1 AA game and perhaps a price drop the Switch should still be able to sell strong enough before a successor launches in 2024.
Very sparce list. I'm sure Metroid 4 is just put on the list to pad it out at this point. It's been on it for years with no hint of a release. π€£ Also, when you are listing dlc in your release calendar for a 9 year old game you know you are scraping the barrel. Switch 2 is hopefully soon....
This is madness... Nintendo haven't even had a COD title release on their systems in years yet they have to go through all this... Talk about making up work to make yourself sound important...
This is great but no N64 game in February. N64 games already slowing down. It was one a month now it will likely be 5 over the next 9 months is my guess...
PS5 sales starting to hit their stride, over 60K for Switch just as it's about to turn 6 yrs is amazing. Worldwide 120 million Switches is simply superb. When PS5 reaches that then a conversation can take place regarding any criticism of Switch sales... π€£
Physical copy of Metroid Prime Remastered is en route, just been dispatched so looking forward to playing it shortly. Need to finish off Kirby first however...
Possibly may get Fatal Frame Mask Of The Lunar Eclipse if it reviews well later on...
@Baler Exactly, Xbox wise I will be all digital going forwards having a Series S I will have to be. So I enjoy getting physical copys of Nintendos first party games on the Switch. I enjoyed Halo Infinites campaign too, it was a solid game. As you say Nintendo haven't let me down yet.
@Uncle_Franklin It is quite alot I guess, especially when I just got the Metro Collection (All 3 FPS games) for Β£9.99 on My Series S. Nintendo first-party games are my weakness to get at launch and pay big bucks for.. Basically everything else I get on sale later on for well well below the rrp. Also yes, if the mini games were online that would certainly help. π
Just getting stuck into Kirby as we speak. It's a great game with plenty of content. Should keep me busy for this and likely next week with the extra mini-games and additional story mode added in.
The service especially if you have the expansion version now promotes a decent lineup of games. Just looking at my time spent on the games and I've spent 5+ hours on FZeroX, Mario Kart 64, Mario Tennis, Goldeneye and obviously Banjo Kazooie π
That's 25+ hours on just the N64 stuff, add in the SNES, NES, and Megadrive before even thinking about GBA and Gameboy games and it's quite good value for money now.
I just wish they would add games quicker but this service will carry on to the next console so I guess Nintendo need to drip feed them out over time...
My only worry is the price will soon increase as Nintendo highly regard their back catalogue and will think we are getting to much for the price... π€
Very strange... It's great to go back to the original hub world and a nice bonus to experience again as a novelty. But other than that after a few minutes perhaps what's next π€£π€£
Still on my Switch I got shortly after launch. As I only (95%) play docked it's still basically like new. However, the battery is probably not as good at holding it's charge so I plan to get an OLED before the next Switch launches...
Nightmare Reaper looks good, old stool fps... If it plays well with a solid soundtrack I might pick it up, the others will have to see how they turn out..
@MarioBrickLayer Good idea, I have so many games I start but leave unfinished... I'm playing through the Splatoon 3 campaign finally after just playing the multiplayer so far. Need to get that done before moving on.

Oh dear, Melody Gardens lacks melodies...
Surely, when you call it that you would think they would nail the sound, but no...
What a crying shame..
