Tomorrow, a brand new Pokémon Presents livestream will offer fans more information on both Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the next major instalments in the world-dominating franchise. Any Pokémon Direct is a special occasion, but this one looks set to be crammed full of more info than ever before.
Tomorrow's show, which will be streamed at 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm BST / 3pm CEST, will be "about 28 minutes long" according to The Pokémon Company. We've run the numbers, and a 28-minute duration will make the show the longest ever Pokémon-focused broadcast – and by some margin, too.
Since rebranding to the 'Pokémon Presents' name, we've only had three presentations. The longest of these was this year's Pokémon 25th Anniversary special, which was about 20 minutes long:
- June 17th, 2020 - 11 minutes
- June 24th, 2020 - 11 minutes
- February 26th, 2021 - 20 minutes
Up until the summer of 2020, The Pokémon Company's shows were simply referred to as 'Pokémon Direct'. Seven of these were broadcast in total, and again, none of them were anywhere near 28 minutes long:
- January 8th, 2013 - 11 minutes
- September 4th, 2013 - 19 minutes
- February 26th, 2016 - 6 minutes
- June 6th, 2017 - 8 minutes
- February 27th, 2019 - 7 minutes
- June 5th, 2019 - 17 minutes
- January 9th, 2020 - 21 minutes
The Pokémon Company has promised "exciting new information" on the games mentioned above "and more". What is the 'more' referring to? Just how 'exciting' will this lengthy show be?
We're certainly intrigued, that's for sure. Make sure to join us at the times mentioned above to watch the show and get all the announcements as they arrive. It's going to be a big one (literally).

Well now they have their MOBA live service to take up 10 minutes flogging their overpriced tat in.
2 minutes of BDSP, 3 minutes of PLA and 23 minutes of Pokemon SLEEP!
Dang... I was only gonna watch if there might be info about New Pokemon Snap / PMD / the highly unlikely something new with the Ranger, Pinball or Colosseum/XD spin-offs.
...but if it's that long there's a decent chance at least something I'm interested is in it.
Sounds like they got lots of splainin to do.
@Kyloctopus Pokémansplaining
I'm looking forward to seeing more of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. It's probably one of the most intriguing Pokemon games I've seen in recent times.
Hopefully it's good. I just don't want them explain every little detail about each game and ruin any surprises they may have.
Still being carefully optimistic, hoping for a good show. I really wanna dive back into the games again after skipping Sword and Shield, but they could easily make me skip the next games again if they keep screwing it up.
Bring it on, and show us a good time! The Pokémon series deserves to have their games treated with love and care and not be rushed out the door, please give us quality again!
remember how a Detective Pikachu port was announced years ago? The Pokemon Company doesn't
@nessisonett Apparently tomorrow does indeed get a new pokémon added in so you can 100% assume that it'll be shown alongside some roadmap that they wanna do. I'd say that'll take up to 10-15minutes like you said.
I'd hardly call 7 minutes "a considerable margin".
Anyway, I'm looking forward to see more Legends gameplay footage. It has a lot of potential.
The January 2020 Pokemon Direct was split up as around 2.5 minutes on Mystery Dungeon DX and 18 minutes on Sword/Shield Expansion Pass so I'd guess we'll get 8 minutes on BDSP and 20 minutes on Legends Arceus.
Wasn’t going to preorder the remakes, I kept telling myself, but I couldn’t resist it for some reason.
Can’t wait for Arceus though. Hopefully there’s some good surprises coming. Could be legitimately a nice presentation. I mean, we never expected Pokémon Snap and yet it came. I don’t care what anyone says. I’ve enjoyed Snap a lot.
Let's hope for more info on Pokemon Sleep
I would imagine that's mostly for Arceus, the game we know very little of and are most concerned for. If Sword/Shield are any indication, they're still not entirely sure how to make an open world design work well. Here's hoping!
@Mando44646 yah what the hell happened to that 🤦♂️
In the past, Pokémon Directs have opened with a motivational style trailer celebrating the series history, grandly revealing a new title after a few minutes and then letting us chew on that.
So it makes sense that a presentation focusing on the contents of not one, but two upcoming games will be longer than those.
@nessisonett
Better yet, they'll announce a second Pokémon Presents within this livestream just for said MOBA game, but they won't tell us that it's for the MOBA game.
@RupeeClock And the review of the series history will get longer each time! 😀
Think I'll skip it live and skim through at my leasure later.
The hype is real 🤩🥳🤩
The focus will be on BD/SP I'm sure, but I'm really excited for Pokemon Legends Arceus. I will probably try to watch it live, but if they take too long to get to Arceus I might come back later.
Hopefully the TCG??? I live in a constant state of hoping for it!
Fingers crossed for a massive Pokemon Smile update - where's gen 2???
Looking forward to more details on the new game.
"Pokemon Cafe Re-Mix" and "Pokemon Quest On!"
Honestly, I'm not readying myself to be amazed. Not pessimism, just realism.
If it ends up being exciting, great. If not, then I wasn't hyped anyway.
But my wish list would be Arceus Legends gameplay that isn't 20 FPS and BDSP features that take positives from Platinum. Battle Frontier would go a long way.
Interesting. Hope we see updated graphics and models for BDSP.
Same with Pokemon Legends Arceus
@Yosher I'm the same as you. Skipped Sword and Shield, looking for something to convince me to come back. For now, every other generation will be keeping me entertained anyway.
Is this where they announce the last Smash fighter is from Sword/Shield?
5 minutes sinnoh remakes
5 minutes legends arceus
18 minutes chinese moba crap, with interviews with devs and "pro" players and the roadmap for the next 2 years. glory to the ccp
Oh I don’t see the “and more”, fingers crossed for a more fleshed out roadmap for Unite. It’d be nice to know what sort of events they have planned and who’s coming after Blissey (besides Blastoise).
It's truly a shame what the Pokemon Company is able to get away with nowadays and the consumers are at fault for allowing it to happen. I hope Legends Arceus is a high quality game for those who are looking forward to it, but I won't be surprised it if isn't.
@NinjaGuy69 this. Legends is their final chance for me. if it turns out to be just as bad as Sword/Shield or even worse, then I officially quit and I will feel so bad for the longtime fans who will keep sticking around. I can't imagine how bad Gen 9 and future games will be...
Looking forward to 26 minutes of gacha games and 2 minutes of telling that DP/LA are still in development
@Mando44646 I'm pretty sure it was a sequel, not a port
That's a good thing indeed. So far this generation we've had...2 great side games and 0 great main series games, and by this time in a generation the number is usually higher than that.
@DoctorShrunk I'm not gonna lie, I actually thought about the other day. I didn't give much thought to Pokémon Smile initially. Thought it was silly and a waste of time. But when the kiddos started giving us trouble with brushing their teeth, it actually came in handy. Pretty darn clever how they did it.
Well, i will prepare my snack for tomorrow. 🤗
Gotta watch 'em all.
@RainbowGazelle It's absolutely considerable. It's a 33% increase from the longest one yet.
I imagine a lot of time will be spent talking about Pokemon Legends Arceus given how different it is from all any other Pokemon game.
@IronDaughter I started out with the original Pokemon Red/Blue on my (stylish) lime green Gameboy Color and played all the main line games. I told myself that I would never buy another game after what they did with Sword/Shield. I may pick up Legends Arceus on sale if it turns out to be worthwhile, but if not, I'm done with Pokemon too.
@w00dm4n Don’t know if you were joking but I absolutely expect the last fighter to be Cinderace.
I wouldn’t mind some news on Gen 8 for Pokémon Go too.
A lot of these comments make me think about what people want from a Pokémon mainline game. Many want the very very best and expect/hope for significant upgrades, and feel cheated/betrayed when it doesn't happen. Others just want the core experience in a new setting and with new characters, and any actual upgrades are a nice bonus. I guess I'm in the latter field.
I want the games to be the very best, like no game ever was.
Can’t wait for Pokken 2, Detective Pikachu 2 and a side scrolling Pokemon game.
I think they have some sort of Sword and Shield news too. Legit wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the national pokedex becomes available in game.
@Mando44646 I heard it was done or near done sometime back and it's another one of those titles Nintendo is "sitting on"...for what it's worth.
Guess we'll see.
Let's be realistic.
It'll be 25 minutes of The Pokémon Company congratulating themselves for doing the bare bloody minimum followed by 3 minutes of footage that we've (mostly) seen already.
I bet the first five minutes will still be a montage of clips from every mainline Pokemon game and only the popular spinoffs again.
@nessisonett LMAO
Wonder how much of those 28 minutes will be wasted on mobile games lol
i wonder what thing Pokémon Company is gonna show for Pokémon Legend Arceus? i expect big changes for the Diamond e Pearl remakes.
@Mando44646 it was not a sequel for Detective Pikachu that Pokémon Company anounced back in 2018?
@Silly_G The way you say it, it's almost like you want them to do exactly this to be proven right and justify your disdain. It's not healthy.
@nessisonett We don't know that. They said that this presentation would be dedicated to Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl and Legends Arceus.
@IronDaughter Was Sword/Shield even that bad though?
@PaulBizkit We don't know that for sure.
@Mando44646 I don't think it's a matter of them "remembering". For all we know, it could still be in early development.
@NinjaGuy69 "Get away with"? I mean, I know Sword/Shield or Unite aren't perfect, but it's not like they're committing crimes or anything.
@BrazillianCara : Disdain? I was being playfully sarcastic, babes.
@Silly_G I guess I'm just tired of sarcasm, then. It's my own problem.
With that lenght, there will definitely be info about other games. But I hope they dedicate long, direct segments for both BDSP and Legends: Arceus, especially the one with more new content.
@mr-duster They're obviously not doing anything criminal. I'm referring to the company's practice of releasing low quality games and still selling millions of units because their consumers are willing to buy anything that has 'Pokemon' in the title. I hate to say it, but that just goes to show you the level of intelligence among your average consumer.
My BDSP WishList:
Must have: Battle Frontier, Gen 1-4 national dex, Mythicals, Secret Base, Rotom Forms, Plat Regional Dex, Ball Seals, Contests, Multiple use TMs
Extra: Megas, Regional Form, Z-Moves, Dynamax, Primal Forms, EXP Share Toggle
@NinjaGuy69 I have to disagree with a couple of your points. Pokemon Sword/Shield may have had their flaws, but they aren't what I'd call "low quality". And it's not about their consumers' "intelligence" either. It's because whatever flaws recent games may have, those flaws don't bother some consumers as much as they do others. It's not that they're willing to buy anything that has 'Pokemon' in the title. Many of these people are fans of the franchise, and want to see what new games have in store, regardless of whatever flaws they may have. As for me, the positives in Sword/Shield outweighed the negatives.
@jamesthemagi Remember, don't get your hopes up too high.
@mr-duster
I'm cautiously optimistic
All I'm asking for is the content present in Platinum, otherwise is a hard pass for me.
@jamesthemagi Well, don't expect any Platinum-related content to be shown in the presentation, because they might want us to play the game for ourselves and be in for a surprise.
@Silly_G "We've added a 2nd town to legends Arceus. it comprises of 4 buildings, 1 of them is the Pokémon centre and another is the Mart" (applause)
Note to self: buy extra popcorn for tonight's comment sections.
@mr-duster I'm not sure that we played the same game. Pokemon Sword/Shield were extremely low quality and that was evident to anyone who was, I don't know....maybe paying attention while playing the game? The N64 tree, the games dropping down to a PowerPoint slideshow frame rate in certain parts of the wild area and during Dynamaxing/raid battles, the mouse cursor in the end credits, no National Dex, the paid DLC end game and the list goes on. Plus the game becomes increasingly more unenjoyable as it goes on - you're so over-leveled by the end game that you one shot everything because GameFreak removed the option to turn off experience share.
If we as consumers just accept this for all that Pokemon is ever going to be in the future, then that's all we'll get. And if that's the case, then we can't really blame GameFreak for wanting to cash in on an audience that doesn't care to think critically about the games they purchase if they can dupe them each time with low quality, low effort releases.
Anyone who tries to defend the games as being quality or being enjoyable is simply being disingenuous. If we want the games to get better, then we as a fan base need to be better and hold GameFreak accountable, we need to be informed about the products we're purchasing instead of just throwing money at anything with 'Pokemon' in the title. We need to hold GameFreak (owners of the most profitable media franchise in the world) to a higher standard to ensure that future games will actually be high quality and enjoyable.
@Archius9 : You crazy kids with your wildly unrealistic expectations.
Well I was wrong about Quest On but I was right about Cafe Re-Mix. 😂
When the satire becomes the reality. 😁
@mr-duster
Hahaha, there is no way I'm purchasing this without the above mentioned content. They will have to wait for my purchase and I believe many other people after searching online to see if is worth it if they don't reveal it in trailers.
After this present I'm fairly optimistic as I think is shaping up well.
Again, they probably won't reveal it in the trailers because they want it to be a surprise.
@NinjaGuy69 Well, that was a long comment.
The National Pokedex wasn't going to appear regardless, because there are simply too many Pokemon for it at this point. And if memory serves, the absence of the National Pokedex is what sparked this flame war in the first place, And the N64 tree and the mouse cursor were only small things. I didn't even notice the mouse cursor at first. When I played the game, they just amounted to pointless nitpicks at the most.
Besides, I didn't think the experience share thing made the game unenjoyable. If anything, it made the gameplay far less tedious for me. And I really like that the games are moving away from all the tedium and monotony of doing things one at a time.
I'm not "accepting" mediocrity, because in my opinion, Sword/Shield weren't mediocre. Not everybody thinks they're lazy , low-quality or low-effort cash-grabs. Every game in the series, whether you like certain ones or not, and in spite of their flaws, all take a lot of effort to create. If people want to play these games, let's just let them. It's their call on whether or not they enjoy the games, not ours.
We're not "throwing money" at anything. We purchase these games because we want to. And we love the Pokemon franchise. It's been a major part of my life since early childhood, so of course I'm always going to be loyal to it. I'm not "throwing money at things with the word Pokemon on it". That's a really unfair and immature way of putting it in my opinion. Nobody is being "disingenuous" because it's ultimately their opinion whether something is good or bad. Remember, Game Freak isn't the second coming of Jesus Christ or the meaning of life, it's a video game company. Holding them on such a high pedestal is sort of pushing it. We don't "need" to hold anything to whatever standards. This mentality is what feels disingenuous to me. If you want to play the games, purchase them. If you don't want to play them, don't. It's very simple.
As for me, I'm not interested in Pokemon Unite at the moment, but then again, my interests could change.
