Japanese games company Konami - known for titles such as Metal Gear Solid - has announced it won't be attending E3 2021.
In a statement on social media, the company said it still had "great respect" for the ESA and would continue to support it in the future. It's also taken this opportunity to reassure fans it has a number of projects in "deep development" - and will be sharing updates in the coming months.
Konami has been in the headlines quite a lot recently. Over the past few weeks its cancelled Castlevania Dreamcast game was resurrected, there have been rumours about a Metal Gear Solid remake, and Konami's Spanish Twitter account has apparently teased some surprises.
To see who will be in attendance at E3 2021, see our full guide. What do you think Konami might have in the development? Comment below.

In fairness, E3 isn't really the place to announce pachinko machines. Would of said gambling in general but most AAA announcements include that nowadays.
"What do you think Konami might have in the development for fans?"
Oh, please. Dance Dance Revolution A20+ for Nintendo Switch !
the rumor of the Souls like Castlevania would be amazing, the two games are a match made in heaven
Ah yes, the most thrilling of announcements
Metal Gear Solid Remake - Metal Gear Solid is now remade in stunning HD graphics! Simply the finest pachinko machine exclusive to Japan!
Contra: Rogue Corps 2 - A switch exclusive sequel to the most talked-about Konami game of 2019
Silent Hill HD Remake Collection - An hd remake collection of Silent Hill Origins and Shattered Memories
@AnnoyingFrenzy Re Silent Hill, don't forget it will be based on broken code that the porters will have to try and fix immeasurable amount of bugs again.
@XenoShaun Ah who could forget such beloved -features- that will surely make fans nostalgic
Let me guess, more pachinko and slot/(fruit) machine IP's? LOL
So many wonderful franchises wasting away just because they want to focus on pachinko machines.
Konami doesn't really make games so I'm not surprised.
@Anti-Matter An honest question to the DDR expert. A DDR game on Switch would require a dance mat, correct?
@Tandy255
Yup.
But you can play DDR with normal controller. Just only need D-Pad and 4 buttons ABXY / Circle Square X Triangle, same way like you play DDR on Wii / PS1 / PS2 / PS3 / XBOX / XBOX 360.
I saw from Konami's Twitter when they want to release DDR Ultimate Mobile, Konami will provide 2 different kinds of DDR pad: Plastic pad and Metal pad (Arcade style).
Also, there are a lot of DDR Metal pad provided by 3rd party companies or handmade by certain peoples that i can order here in my hometown.
Just port Bomberman 64.
I'll just be sitting here waiting for a ReBirth collection. God, I want that to happen.
Comment section as original as always.
An Igavania Collection would be a welcome surprise.
I have it on good authority that Konami will be announcing Blades of Steel HD reBoot, Goonies II 2, TwinBee 4K, Quarth 3D, and Rollergames 1990 2021.
MORE CRAPPY ONLINE VERSIONS OF POPULAR FRANCHISES YAY
Man I would love just getting Metal Gear Solid V: The Definitive Experience on Switch. It's one of my four all time favorite stealth games along with Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and Blacklist and Ghost Recon Future Soldier.
The Pachinko Machine maker is not coming to E3 2021, color me surprise.
I want to see some HD versions of Silent Hill 1, 2, 3 and Shattered Memories, PES 2022, for NS
I'm crossing my fingers for an MGS collection and a Castlevania collection vol. 2 for Switch. It's surprising that neither one has happened yet.
silent hill plz and PES 2022. Thats all I need.
Silent Hill 1, 2, 3 HD remasters for switch plz
I wish they'd release a MGS collection on Switch. They can throw V on there,is the worse game of the entire series, but I'd replay it on portable mode.
@Paraka
You have that 9 upside down. Bomberman '94.
Puhlease give us another Castlevania game!
Fingers crossed for that Metal Gear Solid remake by BluePoint.
New pachinko machines everyone! Yeah!!! Woohoo!!!
I think peoples here don't even know other Konami games.
1. Dance Dance Revolution
2. Para Para Paradise
3. Guitar Freaks & DrumMania
4. Beatmania IIDX
5. Pop'n Music
6. KeyboardMania
7. Martial Beat
8. Dance Evolution
9. Sound Voltex
10. Jubeat
11. Mambo a Gogo
12. Toy's March

@robr - My bad, I graduated public school during the Bush era, I can only count to chair.
@Anti-Matter Dude, the majority of gamers want Metal Gear and Castlevania from Konami, not these franchises.
That joke about Pachinko machines is old, seriously.
@EVIL-C
But there are some peoples out there still get into BEMANI games, even the franchises are already 20+ years old.
Konami's other business ventures are gyms, life insurance, and their pachi machines, so they've essentially been forced to revive their game division. I've heard they're looking for 3rd party developers to do the work but it's all speculation.
Let's get that castlevania anniversary collection......TWO
@Anti-Matter they do have alot of franchises but im hoping for castlevania first and foremost
@NintendoByNature
I'm the opposite and very minority here.
I'm hoping BEMANI games especially DDR will be on Nintendo Switch or PS4.
I'm a Rhythm gamer, a huge fan of BEMANI games.
@Anti-Matter you will have just dance from ubisoft to fill the gap. Ddr like games could make their way onto switch if the markets there.
@NintendoByNature
I never like Just Dance by Ubisoft with their horrible Western songs choices.
The gameplay of Just Dance also way much worse than BEMANI games.
If i want to dance with movement, Dance Evolution from XBOX 360 and Arcade by Konami is my answer. It uses DDR songs to dance, not by horrible Western licensed songs.
Konami won't be making video games*
there I fixed the article lol
not a massive konami fan boy, but man does it seem like they've slowed down in years.
This is sad news. Was expecting a comeback of sorts from them this year. Seems like a wasted opportunity.
@Anti-Matter Nobody wants these.
@Grail_Quest
But i really want BEMANI games return to consoles.
And there are some peoples out there still playing with current BEMANI games on Arcade (DDR A20+, Beatmania IIDX 28 Bistrover, Gitadora High Voltage, etc) .
I oftenly saw from Youtube the new songs being played by peoples out there from those current BEMANI games, made me want to try those songs.
And you do realize my current avatar is Pink Rose from KeyboardMania 3rd Mix / DDR EXTREME, the games from Konami.
@Anti-Matter
Just cool it, guy. Konami is going to look through this comment section and decide what to do based on what we say, so enough with the bemani stuff. learn how to play a real instrument for christ's sake. Now get on board for TwinBee 2: Electric Buggaloo, or see yourself to the doggone door!
Also whatever song is playing in that video you posted is one of the worst piles of cat vomit I have ever heard in my life.
Konami.......just hand over the reigns to the likes of M2 or Treasure and allow them to make some Sequels to your classic franchises. Goemon, Gradius, Sparkster, Contra, Castlevania, Axelay etc etc.
And in the meantime, can’t we have a port of Gradius V for the Switch?
@screechums
I can play Drum by playing DrumMania from Konami. I know the Drum parts from Hi Hat, Snare, Bass pedal, High Tom, Floor Tom, Cymbal. I can play some DrumMania songs until level 60 - 70 (old scale) or level 7.00 (Gitadora scale).
Recently i have interest with KeyboardMania from Konami, the game that i have ever knew on year 2004 - 2005 from my local game arcade long time ago and now i have opportunity to play it on PS2 with its keyboard controller. The songs from KeyboardMania was really superb, that's why i considered that game.
My life will be happier if current BEMANI games get ported to Nintendo Switch or PS4. And you should realize not every gamer expecting same games (Catlevania for example) from Konami.
So a new Castlevania is in the works? Or Gradius? Contra? Bayou Billy remaster? Metal Gear Anniversary Collection?
@GameOtaku Extra points for referencing Bayou Billy!
@screechums LMAO. I'm crying over here! Thank you!
@Anti-Matter you sound like a spoilt 5 year old......‘I want DDR games now’, ‘Western Music is rubbish’.......grow up.
Nobody wants these games, we all want Metal Gear.
Konami would be crazy for not going all in on Switch. They have one of the biggest third party games in Japan. They can create games whilst avoiding the huge AAA next gen development costs and much of their ip has a low representation on Nintendo consoles. Pro Evolution Soccer could easily steal FIFA's thunder on the system for example. That game they showed off in the Indie presentation looked bloody ace! Pretty sure they will bring MGS at some point too.
Please for goodness sake PES on Switch before the Euros.
@HamatoYoshi
Who said nobody want BEMANI games ?
Maybe i am the minority here but i am a huge fan of BEMANI games from Konami.
I grew up by DDR for more than 20 years, have been playing with at least six different BEMANI games on arcade and consoles, of course i only adore kind of these games and will not thinking about other Konami games that majority users here talked about since i have no interest at all with those Konami games. And nothing wrong for me as minority here for wishing BEMANI games will get ported again on consoles someday.
I never like most modern Western songs (Nicki Minaj, Pitbull, LMFAO, etc) as their songs are really horrible for my taste but i really like Western songs from European artists (with genre Bubblegum, Euro Dance, Euro Trance, etc) such as Smile.dk, Captain Jack, Ace of Base, PAPAYA, 2 Unlimited, CARTOONS, JENNY ROM, etc and some English cover of Japanese songs sung by European artist such as Odoru Pompokolin by Captain Jack, Cat's Eye (Ventura Mix) by E-ROTIC, PETIT LOVE by Smile.dk, etc. Those are superb Western songs for me. 👍
@Anti-Matter Nobody cares ... just move on. You are not the center of the universe ...
Also in my language BEMANI (бе мани) means "GTFO"
Suikoden VI would be welcome (although the Euyoden Chronicle KS is likely the closest thing we'll ever get to that). More of their classic Arcade coin-ops would likewise be great.
But given recent history, I plan to keep my expectations low. The same goes for Sega and most of the rest of the former powerhouses of the Japanese videogame industry; for whatever reason, they just can't seem to trust many of their beloved IPs or the legions of fans who've been begging for them for years. It's sad as a longtime hobbyist to see what were once some of the best and most prolific companies in the industry reduced to one-trick ponies that trot out the same tired franchises they associate with their glory days.
@Anti-Matter maybe you need to get yourself a girlfriend, broaden your interests a little.....you’re actually obsessed with these dance games. Everyone on here is talking about Metal Gear and Castlevania and you’re just harping on and on and on.
@HamatoYoshi
Am i not allowed to wish other Konami games such as BEMANI games for modern consoles ?
Konami games are not just about Castlevania, Suikoden, etc.
There are a lot of other minor Konami games that i have interest about such as K-1, Lost in Blue, Twin Bee, Tiny Toons Wacky Sports Challenge, Bishi Bashi, etc.
Those games are really caught my attention.
There is always a minor people like me have interest with different games from Konami.
Be proud if you can find an user with different interest like that, that means not everyone is a cookie cutter.
Oh, btw. I have no interest in looking for girlfriend. I enjoy my life as single forever and keep pursuing my gaming hobby. 🤗
I recently got to play Cotton Reboot on my Switch and it's an awesome shooter. I hope Konami makes a Parodius Reboot, or we at least get the Famicom game, a Super Famicom Parodius, or a Hamster release of one of the Parodius arcade games.
@Anti-Matter no interest in a girlfriend? You don’t want to play alone with your joystick forever surely?!
@HamatoYoshi
I'm used to play alone in public and at home. 🙂
Sometimes i have ever got some partners to play DDR Arcade together.
But, when i played DDR Arcade alone, i didn't hesitate to show off my DDR skills that i built from a lot of training by playing the songs on Expert or Challenge difficulty and got AA or AAA grade / playing Boss songs with level above than level 15 and cleared the songs with any grade / playing specific DDR songs with blindfolded (playing without seeing any arrows on the screen and facing backward from the monitor) and cleared the songs as well.
@HamatoYoshi
oh man, this @anti-matter guy is not picking up anything you are putting out there. you might need to give it to him in language he can understand, like an interpretive dance he can follow along with. Also, he mentioned TwinBee! It's catching on! We need more fan outcry for "TwinBee 2: Twinner Bees, Too".
@AtlanteanMan
"once some of the best and most prolific companies in the industry reduced to one-trick ponies that trot out the same tired franchises they associate with their glory days." Dude, those are the days we are living in. Stay tuned for Zelda 20 and Mario 52, Call of Duty: who cares anymore (or ever), Madden 3024 (isn't he dead yet), and so on and so on. Mortal Kombat just got remade as a movie for christ's sake! Maybe Konami will give us what we really want, Goonies II 2: Let's Get Goonier HD 4K liquid nitrogen steel book ultra special edition.
@screechums
I like to play Twin Bee song from DDR EXTREME / DDR EXTREME 2 USA PS2.
It was originally from Beatmania III.
This song is easy peasy for me.
@Anti-Matter
I wouldn't watch that video you just posted even if for doing so Konami promised to release Rollergames 2: This Time It's Personal. You are on your own with DDR my friend.
@Anti-Matter you need to be careful playing with your joystick in public because that sort of behaviour is just going to end up with you being on some kind of register!
@screechums he lives his life in the Dance mat world!
@HamatoYoshi
This is when i played DDR SuperNOVA 2 Arcade with blindfolded. 😎
It was 10 years ago i did that.
I was the guy with blue outfits and blindfold from this video.
To be fair about Bemani games, I wonder if they are still popular in the Japanese arcades. They would suit the Switch loads. Mind you, everything does lol!
@GrailUK
BEMANI games are still popular in Japan and other Asia region. A lot of peoples still willing to try the new songs from new BEMANI games.
I oftenly saw from Youtube some upcoming DDR A20+ / Beatmania IIDX 28 Bistrover / Gitadora High Voltage songs have been played by professional players. Japanese / Asian players are really hardcore in playing rhythm games with very Hard difficulty.
@Anti-Matter then it sounds perfectly reasonable you wanting them! So keep asking I guess 😁
Yes won't hold my breath, until Contra, Gradius, Castlevania, Axelay 2, reboots are announced not that interested. And I'm pretty sure none of the above will see the light of day.
@SakuraHaruka People wouldn't label them as a Pachinko machine company if they actually make games like they use to, like actually making them and not just licensing indie titles.
@JeanPaul It gets even worse given it's not just their franchises that are being ignored.
They also own Hudson Soft's franchises and it's legacy.
People often cry about Castlevania, Contra, and the fate of Konami's other franchises and they are correct to do so.
But Adventure Island, Bonk, Blood Roar, and other Hudson IPs have also been forgotten and ignored, all of them begging for new entries.
After reading the comments here, this tends to be forgotten.
Konami has basically taken a dump on the legacy of two companies that were at one point, major players in the world of gaming.
I don't trust Konami to deliver anything worth my attention anymore anyway.
@Caryslan Damn, I completely forgot about Hudson soft! They were huge, now I know why they disappeared, the Konami effect.
This is actually even worse.
I would just like to say I am not looking for a girlfriend either, but if Priti Patel knocks on my door then I am ready for a date xxx
@SeantheDon29 This would be the best news ever for me. Especially the DS games that are tricky to emulate.
Konami needs to bring or make new entries to their arcade classics on Switch with local & online multiplayer support...
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Simpsons, X-Men, Bucky O'Hare etc... all classic fun arcade multiplayer brawlers.
I understand there are some licensing hurdles, but they've already kinda sorted through some of that before in the past bringing some of these to PS3 before, so it's not impossible. A collection like Capcom and others have done already on Switch or cheap separate listings would be great!
Such a great developer in ye olden times now gone sour smh.
I would love to see a new Track & Field. Or Skate/Ski or die. And why not a hd remake of Goonies 2
Konami jumped the shark when they released the Otomedius games. They were obviously a shell of their previous selves.
PLEASE, give us more Castlevania.
Anniversary Collection #2 PLEASE
So, no Silent Hill, again...
@Muh-ario I would be okay with this if Konami is just the publisher and nothing else. Maybe a Castlevania Metroidvania Collection would be awesome
@DBZdan12 yeah I really want that with all the metroidvania. Maybe add Rondo of Blood as well
@Mfreddy22 DS games aren't that hard to emulate.
Whos Konami? Wasnt that the game company that made some awesome stuff before they treated their staff like utter garbage and basically gave the middle finger to fans?
Their entire board needed to be fired and start again.
@CarlosM87 If they were smart they would just sell the right to Silent Hill. the only money they make on it now is bloody Pachinko machines, might as well give it to a studio that can do something good with it. The team behind The Evil Within could really make something special.
Goemon for Smash!
@PickledKong64 Oh agreed but if you add Rondo you have to add SOTN.
For the 3 DS, 3 GBA, rondo, chronicles, SOTN man oh man I’d pay $100.
