Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Nintendo Switch 2

I'm delighted with the upgrade; everything about the system feels like a generational improvement to me. A longer battery life would have been a nice benefit but I mostly play handheld in the house so can plug it in without too many problems. I'll get a new powerbank for other times.

Re: Hardware Review (In Progress): Nintendo Switch 2 - A Faster, Slicker, Sexier Switch

The magic for me is all the free updates to existing games, such as the No Man's Sky S2 update that adds all the features missing from the Switch release as well as dramatically improving the visuals and framerate. One of my favourite S1 games suddenly becomes much better, and for free. That's my biggest revelation after a few hours of ownership. I haven't tried Mario Kart WT yet. Oh, and the Welcome Tour is charming, and worth the £8 for me. No buyers remorse here.

Re: Want To 100% 'Welcome Tour'? You'll Need To Cough Up For Some Accessories

How can you be critical of the fact that the game has demos for optional accessories? If you don't have the camera, obviously that part of the tour isn't relevant. No-one needs to try to '100%' something like this... To suggest you're going to need to go and but a new 4k tv for this to be a complete experience is nuts. It's a really fun little experience, people are just looking for things to get upset about!

Re: Ex-PlayStation Boss Comments On Switch 2's "Hefty" Price Hikes

It's a simple proposition; the game is either worth $80 to you or it isn't. Like many many people, I opted for the pack-in version so the relative cost is much less (and it makes the MK bundle look much better value). Mario Kart is a game that people keep playing for years and years, so in terms of value for money it seems fine to me. I doubt other many games or third parties will follow that price.

@gingerbeardman Wow, that's amazing, there can't have been more than 100 people there! Small world, as you say... I was thinking about that evening yesterday after making the comment and delighted the rest of the household with some classic retro tunes (not Jeff Minter related but the Crazy Comet theme has been living in my brain since 1984). Happy memories.

Re: 'Hidden Gems: Volume One' Brings Four Classic Commodore 64 Games To Switch Tomorrow

The C64 carried my gaming interests through my entire childhood and none of these games resonate with me. Uridium, IK+, Bubble Bobble, Defender of the Crown, Lords of Midnight, Commando, Mercenary, Elite, Little Computer People, Wizball, Spy Vs. Spy, Monty on the Run (and other Mole games), Sentinal... To be honest, there are probably 100 classics that stand the test of time. None are featured on this collection.

Re: A 'Pro' Switch With More Power Might Not Even Be Fully Utilised, Says Industry Veteran

I think that the more likely likely revision will be a small hardware upgrade to the screen, the infamous joycons, the battery and perhaps the cooling or general chipset efficiency. The latter might allow for 10-20% higher clockspeeds to be available (don't forget that the now elderly Tegra X1 is underclocked in the current model). It'd tempt some current users to upgrade (probably including me) and maintain momentum without fragmenting the user base for developers. Then in 2023... Whole new model with generational jump in performance, somewhere between PS4 and 5 in terms of power.
