Re: Video: Immortals Fenyx Rising - Switch VS PlayStation 5 Graphical Comparison

thiswaynow

Switch holds up well in that comparison. I think were reaching a point of graphical fidelity where the gains from the newest hardware are very marginal. A bit more shadow here, better reflections there, more realistic hair... All nice but not amazingly different to the previous generation. Nothing like the jump from SD to HD, for example. Like a slightly nicer gloss on this year’s Ferrari. For a Switch Pro to keep up with the next gen I think it essentially just needs a bit more grunt to maintain frame rates. Graphically I think it doesn’t need that much more (for me).

@Bl4ckb100d Many would disagree, but I personally think it might be the best console anyone ever made (and I started gaming with the Atari 2600 in about 1979). Good enough that Nintendo could probably keep the Switch line going for the next 10 console generations; the hardware could be more powerful but I can't think of a better form factor.

@westman98 There’s no denying that the software for q3 and q4 have been underwhelming though. I fully expected something big to have been kept under wraps to steal some limelight from the rival console launches, but it seems there’s nothing ready. You can blame COVID etc but still, a company with the resources of Nintendo shouldn’t ever run into the peak buying window without at least 2 major releases IMHO.

@spirit_flame Couldn't agree more, I personally don't have an issue if a game is a port that I haven't played on another system. It's essentially a new game to me, the fact that someone else played it on another system two and a half years ago isn't really relevant. In fact, the fact that it's landing on Switch complete with all the subsequent patches and DLC means the Switch gets a bumper version.

Re: Yes, Monster Hunter Rise Is Running On Capcom's RE Engine

@Reprise The time and cost involved in making HD games from the ground up is completely different to games development back in the Mega Drive/SNES days. For a 3D, HD game to break even financially you’d need to sell perhaps 1Million+ units, maybe more like 2 Million. These projects take big teams and lots of time, so it’s understandable that companies cannot create dozens of such games at once. It also explains why multi-platform engines and remakes are so much more attractive for games companies.

Re: Feature: Burnout Paradise Remastered Dev On Optimisation, Resisting Temptation And Nailing 60 FPS On Switch

@Hagemaru Completely different driving experiences; Burnout is much closer to an arcade experience, whereas GRID is edging towards simulation. GRID is all about track races with qualifying and rewards studying the circuit and nailing the racing-line. Burnout is an open-world tear-up through the streets. I personally prefer the more precise, ‘realistic’ racing style of GRID, but Burnout is a lot of fun too.

@Razer Pricing is mostly about what the market will pay. XCDE is an epic game that will provide months of entertainment (I get limited time for playing games so don’t often plough through them). They’ve done a lot of work to modernise the game, and it’s worth full-price for me. It’s one of my favourite games on Wii, and it seems that a lot of effort has gone into the new version.

EA games are more disposable for me, and mostly get replaced by annual updates, so I’d pay less for them.

If enough people see the full-price as justified, and will pay it, that’s the right price as far as I am concerned. If the market doesn’t see the price as justified it’ll sell poorly and get discounted.
