There's no denying how much we're looking forward to seeing Super Nintendo World's grand opening. Having been given a full look in last month's special Nintendo Direct, it's gearing up to be something special for Nintendo fans, but those in Japan will have to wait a little bit longer. Due to open on February 4th, Universal Studios Japan has just confirmed this has been delayed.
It follows news that Japan's state of emergency is now being extended to cover 11 of the country's 47 prefectures, which includes Osaka. Announced by Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, the country has faced a recent rise in Covid-19 cases nationwide and this measure had previously been focused on Tokyo.
It's set to remain in place until February 7th and providing all goes to plan, Universal Studios Japan has confirmed they'll reveal a new Super Nintendo World opening date then.
As much as we're looking forward to seeing this theme park in action, it's not surprising this has occurred. A pandemic is a strange time to be pressing ahead with a theme park opening but we'll keep you updated once the state of emergency has been lifted.

That was inevitable unfortunately
It was bizarre they even announced a February 2021 date given the current situation.
i mean yeah, thats fair
I was more surprised it was opening so soon
I heard they're going to hand the project to Retro Studios to complete, might be a couple of years before we hear about this again.
Anyone shocked by this hasn't spoken to anyone or seen/heard any news article for the last year.
@thiswaynow A couple years sounds pretty optimistic to me... The last Retro Studios title was DKTF and it was completed in 2013... going on 8 years.
Not suprised, the original date was optimistic at best.
Like everything else, it sucks but we just need to wait for it to pass.
Big surprise NOT.
Good (Hmm, that's it? Can you think of someting [sic] more to say?)
They'll be lucky if it's open by summer.
Stevie Wonder saw that coming.
They probably realised it was all fake
@thiswaynow Hideki Kamiya also said that it's going well and is getting very sick of people asking him about it too.
Dead on arrival...
They're also having a laugh thinking that they can go ahead with the Olympics this year.
@roboshort True, maybe put the opening back to 2027
Only one thing I can say....谢谢中国!
Postpone it until they finish Donkey Kong section!
People running Super Nintendo World crawling out from under their rock like...
@Vonsparrow what?? lol
@thiswaynow What do you mean retro studios is taking over the project? They're working on metroid prime 4
I never saw it coming
