@Uncle_Franklin who are you to judge what is the "normal" kind of strange
i pity those who view specific kinds of strange as "try-hard", that in of itself feels try-hard cynical. actively trying to make things more cynical for no reason.
@outsider83 pretty sure the power of a console was more important back then. you really only didn't care if you were a fan of nintendo during the wii era, otherwise i feel people forget how much of 80s/90s, even a bit of early 2000s gaming was just bit measuring.
@UpsideDownRowlet damn one of the cheapest actual full nintendo games in a while and you still need a sale? maybe you just don't really wanna play it, which is fine
@Markatron84 being on social media does that to you!
also, wow i can't believe people had reasonable criticisms of a product from a giant company! isn't that just so annoying?
@chatsworth everyone expected missing pokemon, i think a lot of them knew that going in. items that, as the article says, were in the trailers suddenly being gone from the actual game is a bit more of a concern. it's at least trying to be a big spot for both preexisting competitive players as well as for those starting out. why not have pretty standard items used for comps, and why not include all the items so even casuals can get used to them? i think it's easier to say "hey kid, learn like.. five more items!" compared to "hey kid, learn about 900 more pokemon!"
@JHDK oh god, is the whole patent fiasco gonna become another annoying internet thing where people spam it on any fun fan project like "nintendo ninjas"?
ahuhuhu, better watch out, nintendo might patent your soul!
wonder if this has anything to do with that update they said they would do to fix boost mode still being able to activate on tomodachi life.. otherwise maybe compatibility fixes?
@Por-E-Gone why have i seen several people say it's only for the wealthy? there are several classes, you know, not just "poor" and "rich".
my family is technically comfortable enough that i could buy a switch 2 and games, but we do still need to take budgets and saving money into consideration quite a lot. especially with the college loans...
@EarthboundBenjy honestly, i'd rather the fomo be stuck on something so inconsequential rather than anything people would actually care about not being able to get. i got my splatoon and air riders icons, that's all i really need.
not enough time to reply to everyone on here, but i am sick of the "were they looking for a super deep story???" no, of course not, they're critics, not idiots. the mario movie barely qualified as a movie (and i say this as someone that enjoyed it well enough), what they were looking for was any significant plot to begin with, and that's much more of an issue with a sequel movie that most of these previews mention is based off a fan-favorite game that specifically had a bit of a deeper narrative behind the scenes.
@N00BiSH rare case where i agree with you. most people who say "but mario games don't have plots anyways, so who cares!" are probably those that solely remember the "new" series of games and nothing else.
i will admit i liked the first movie solely for the sheer number of references, but i fully understood that it was not a good movie. this certainly isn't a case of critics being overly... critical (wow, i can't believe they did what they were supposed to), it's a vast difference in what audiences expect out of the media.
it is not a sin to suggest a mario movie should movie a lot more.
i guess i understand the clarification, but your previous comments very much read like you think the movies are delaying the development of games, not release
@HandheldHero do you think the mario odyssey team was all hands on deck on the mario movie or something? just because it's nintendo endorsed doesn't mean the teams overlap whatsoever...
@Picola-Wicola @Bolt_Strike it seems a lot of people forget you don't need an online game to use gamechat, you can play whatever and use it, it's literally just voice chat lol
unlike one of the top comments i don't think there's any particular sin with nintendo putting out a remake or two still. we're out of the switch 1 gutter, it's not all they're putting out now.
this is also my first time listening to the podcast in full, and i gotta say i do enjoy hearing nate talk. i relate to his thoughts on how people treat directs, how many seem to be shocked at the idea nintendo may have more announcements that aren't through directs because they get swept up in the thrill of a new direct. he's got a good head on his shoulders.
that being said, i always remain skeptical of most of his predictions, i'm not sure why him guessing some direct dates made him a messiah, but many of these would be very cool (raiders pleaaaaase.....)
@N00BiSH because this conniption has gone on way too long, it's like you keep forgetting this is just how illumination rolls and are absolutely disgusted every time a new celebrity is added, regardless of if they fit the role or not
surprisingly im seeing more people super cynical about this on bluesky than reddit. feels weird.
anyways, i'm leaning on the hopeful side, that maybe this means less games will cost 70 bucks by default and we get more 60/70 splits, rather than more 70/80 ones. starting this off with yoshi feels like it makes this harder to figure out, since i feel it was pretty likely they would've priced this game at 60 with the old pricing scheme anyways.
@Sylamp it still has touch screen support in a few areas that aren't just ui interaction and it has felt like the boost mode is a little picky sometimes, idk
god forbid we have some sort of online space where we normally don't have to think about it.
a lot of people want to escape it specifically because we are forced to think about it constantly everywhere else. i don't think it's unreasonable to want at least one spot where you can still find solace in the hobby.
granted, i don't think a news site is the greatest choice...
wc, i feel like the last thing these things are is "junk". they're just overpriced.
also i think people think literally every product is a "brainwash", honey that's just brand exposure. what, you gonna never show mario to your kids ever? highly doubt it! somehow, that's not brainwashing, right?
@ShadLink maybe im stupid but "just update the cable" in reference to letting it charge with higher wattage... sounds ridiculous.
also you mentioned every other significant change they would make except the one that matters here: power draw. the chip is 8nm density and almost certainly upgradable to being smaller. even 7nm could offset the lower capacity battery by a good amount, depending on how much lower it would have to be.
@ShadLink most devices have power requirements that are low enough that the vast majority of usb c cables work with the vast majority of devices. you're making it seem way worse than it is. plus, your suggestion... how is that not basically the same thing?
both versions of the standard switch 1 (and the oled!) have the same capacity battery. they usually make revisions to reduce power draw and inconsistent manufacturing. possibly, this revision could do the same, but use a slightly lower capacity battery. still a increase in battery life, but maybe not as significant.
i have my doubts nintendo would be willing to introduce a brand new revision of both the console and the dock for something like this, that makes things a bit too complex. imagine wanting an extra dock and needing to scrounge through the model numbers to make sure it's the right one.
more than likely this will be incorporated into a revision like what switch 1 got
@Nep-Nep-Freak this is one of the most harmless things for them to enforce, not all interference is inherently bad.
unless you think they're gonna implement hidden chips into the new batteries that read your fingerprints or something.
i don't trust the average internet user to see and properly comprehend a short disclaimer and then go and find the news that says it performs better now. most games don't usually fix issues like this as strongly as this has – how is this not an exception?
@Spider-Kev i do find it strange that third-party games tend to use it more often than nintendo themselves... closest thing i can think of is splatoon 3
@Misima i think to a point, stuff like the touchscreen is handled by the game itself, so i don't know if that's a thing nintendo can just force. the controller stuff, maybe, but at that point having a whole separate mode just to fix that might be overkill
@Misima basically, since the option acts as if you're in docked mode, any joycon connected to it wouldn't normally do anything.
i guess their workaround was to make the joycons act as a pro controller when connected, so that means they technically always have a controller connected.

enough with this both sides crap. there is only one wrong side.

having played the demo, yes it is very fun. i've basically never played a skateboarding-type game and even this clicked with me fairly quick.
do be warned that it feels way faster actually playing it than watching the trailers. you gotta have full focus on this game at all times.
