Re: Forget Next-Gen, Nintendo's Also Launching A New Console Today

Got my Game & Watch in the last hour. Super cute device, gonna have to investigate the clock (not a fan of its constant click/beep).
I love that (copper?), face plate. Previously in my childhood I had the orange Donkey Kong flip unit. VERY sturdy construction. Wish I still had it to sell. My childhood dream was to have the Cement Factory game. I used to remember seeing the Game & Watch units on display at the newsagents! Fond memories of childhood desires.

I've been playing My Time at Portia the past week. Picked it up on a eShop sale. It's really rather good. The world is large and very well crafted. A distant windmills blades cast shadows across my property, so the lighting is good. The town is lively with some very good NPC's. It's very satisfying to see your crafted builds adding to the game world. The crafting requires a LOT of sourcing and preparation which is good and bad. I find very little time to sandbox and sell my own crafts. There is this underlying pressure to save the town, which increases your workload. Basically you are kept busy. Exploring and relationships have to be squeezed in between work. I'm hoping things become balanced later in game. I've still got a dozen townspeople to meet also. Good game that requires planning.

I played the original series back in the day on PC. It was a thrilling game with excellent graphics. It has a cinematic appeal films like "The Guns of Navarone". However... it is essentially a path finding puzzle (each character has their critical action), game. There might be 2 or 3 routes, once you've completed them it's got limited replayabity. I won't be double dipping even after many years.

For calmness I delve into Stardew Valley for the ambience of the seasons and soothing music. Also the cute architecture. On a slightly similar level - traipsing through the valleys under the twin moons of Nirn in Skyrim with that awesome music. Of particular note, looking out from the porch of the inn at Rorikstead. Farmland with rolling hills and a sweeping valley. BoTW is good in very similar ways. Sonic always cheers me up and takes me back to my Megadrive days. There is bunch of arcade games that take me back to my arcade gaming days in the 80's. For me, it's about retiring to the bed with an undocked Switch and if I'm not gaming, then YouTube on the Switch.

@NEStalgia Never completed it, one of the best games I've ever come across. I had the 6 cd wallet with a wall map I think. Planning to get it on Switch, when I finally complete Skyrim. Having this discussion with you has made me want to get the original manual for SU27, brilliant evasion tutorials in there as well as general flight. Nice to run into someone like you!

@NEStalgia I love steam. I've been able to resurrect Janes 688i Hunter Killer sub sim on after 20 or so years. With the right management cloud based gaming can be a blessing. It's only recently that I picked up a gaming laptop. I do miss the old ways though. Big fat books that came with simulations (above mentioned sub game), games Like SU27 Flanker and the book that came with that.

I downloaded My Time at Portia last night, it was on sale and had it on my Wishlist. Very nice charming open world. The loading times seem OK. Takes a while to get used to the mechanics like building and initially even shop transactions. I am happy with it. Brilliant presentation and there is a huge amount of depth to every thing. Picked it up for £6 something. Happy.

Re: Truck Driver Sets Course For A November Release On Switch

It's very easy to make fun of the genre and there are plenty of shovelware driving games on the Switch. I watched some videos of Euro Truck Simulator 2 on the PC, and then bought it. Done well, it's very relaxing. Same kind of relaxing as farming sims. I'm hoping it's similar to ETS2
