I'm curious about a Windows handheld. Reason being Microsoft pump out so many updates every month. One of my 3 year old laptop barely functions. How long does a GPD hold up against a barrage of Window updates?
@Park_Triolo Ignorance is bliss. I've never broken a bone in my body, yet others have. Does that mean broken bones is a myth? Surely you can build a splint and stick that on your broken arm or leg - case closed.
Anyways, My Time at Portia has bewitched me. Rubbish combat but the other systems and world is quite deep. It is quite tricky to expand to be able to manufacture the next key object, but there is always other things to distract you. I love the living world go about its affairs.
Got my Game & Watch in the last hour. Super cute device, gonna have to investigate the clock (not a fan of its constant click/beep). I love that (copper?), face plate. Previously in my childhood I had the orange Donkey Kong flip unit. VERY sturdy construction. Wish I still had it to sell. My childhood dream was to have the Cement Factory game. I used to remember seeing the Game & Watch units on display at the newsagents! Fond memories of childhood desires.
Just got my Game & Watch delivered! It's a lot lighter than I thought. Screen is really good. TBH I'm not very good at Mario games though I do find them cute and the chip tunes are amazing.
Nintendo are not doing their baby any favours by not producing new Nintendo content. MK8 sequel or DLC???. This "I'm holier than though - YOU support my baby with more killer apps" attitude will limit the Switch's growth.
I've got a Switch and a gaming laptop. The laptop is currently used for business but eventually will be my sim-go-to for Arma 3, Sub sims, Euro Truck and DCS. If I get a tv console, more likely will go for Xbox. Gone off Sony.
The fear of the eShop going kaput is palpable. Does anyone here game on the PC? Those games are download only. My Acer laptop doesn't even have an optical drive. I just can't see publishers supporting cartridges in the long term, and cartridges with DLC is impractical unless it's a done & dusted GoTY at the end of its life.
I've been playing My Time at Portia the past week. Picked it up on a eShop sale. It's really rather good. The world is large and very well crafted. A distant windmills blades cast shadows across my property, so the lighting is good. The town is lively with some very good NPC's. It's very satisfying to see your crafted builds adding to the game world. The crafting requires a LOT of sourcing and preparation which is good and bad. I find very little time to sandbox and sell my own crafts. There is this underlying pressure to save the town, which increases your workload. Basically you are kept busy. Exploring and relationships have to be squeezed in between work. I'm hoping things become balanced later in game. I've still got a dozen townspeople to meet also. Good game that requires planning.
They have lasted a long time. I'm no expert, but I think they just went indigenous and focused on Japanese ventures. They should have released their entire backlog on to console or mobile and made more revenue. For Sega, Covid is just a smoke for bad management.
I played the original series back in the day on PC. It was a thrilling game with excellent graphics. It has a cinematic appeal films like "The Guns of Navarone". However... it is essentially a path finding puzzle (each character has their critical action), game. There might be 2 or 3 routes, once you've completed them it's got limited replayabity. I won't be double dipping even after many years.
For calmness I delve into Stardew Valley for the ambience of the seasons and soothing music. Also the cute architecture. On a slightly similar level - traipsing through the valleys under the twin moons of Nirn in Skyrim with that awesome music. Of particular note, looking out from the porch of the inn at Rorikstead. Farmland with rolling hills and a sweeping valley. BoTW is good in very similar ways. Sonic always cheers me up and takes me back to my Megadrive days. There is bunch of arcade games that take me back to my arcade gaming days in the 80's. For me, it's about retiring to the bed with an undocked Switch and if I'm not gaming, then YouTube on the Switch.
@NEStalgia Never completed it, one of the best games I've ever come across. I had the 6 cd wallet with a wall map I think. Planning to get it on Switch, when I finally complete Skyrim. Having this discussion with you has made me want to get the original manual for SU27, brilliant evasion tutorials in there as well as general flight. Nice to run into someone like you!
@NEStalgia I love steam. I've been able to resurrect Janes 688i Hunter Killer sub sim on after 20 or so years. With the right management cloud based gaming can be a blessing. It's only recently that I picked up a gaming laptop. I do miss the old ways though. Big fat books that came with simulations (above mentioned sub game), games Like SU27 Flanker and the book that came with that.
Not sure whether you could call the Switch Chinese launch a success. They only have a handful of games to play. I've read about the anger from consumers. Any game that allows communication or graphic mod is a no-no. I'm guessing that any game narrative regarding freedom is a no-no too.
Waiting for the physical brigade to show up and get the party started! I've got steam and don't have issues of ownership. Then again I don't collect. All my previous gen consoles & games were either gifted away or sold.
I downloaded My Time at Portia last night, it was on sale and had it on my Wishlist. Very nice charming open world. The loading times seem OK. Takes a while to get used to the mechanics like building and initially even shop transactions. I am happy with it. Brilliant presentation and there is a huge amount of depth to every thing. Picked it up for £6 something. Happy.
@asdf0987 Mario Kart 8 is more Battle Royale on 4 wheels than a racing game. Lovely graphics and buttery smooth frame rates - but deffinately not a racing game where you can win in the conventional sense.
Very interested, last time I played was back in the 90's on a PC. If people can worship pixelated classics and pixelated indie shovelware, I can live with a pixelated Tropico - as long as the gameplay is good.
On Switch, on my third play through with Stardew Valley. The early game seems the most interesting. On PC I got my Pro Controller working with Arma 3! Though it's very slightly too slow in a firefight.
Pre-Ordered it day one. I'm not the biggest Mario fan, but I did grow up around Game & Watch consoles. I loved that metal finish on the cases. This was too cute and nostalgic to pass up on, the price is also very reasonable. I'm going to save the box in a sealed bag. A treasured investment.
It's very easy to make fun of the genre and there are plenty of shovelware driving games on the Switch. I watched some videos of Euro Truck Simulator 2 on the PC, and then bought it. Done well, it's very relaxing. Same kind of relaxing as farming sims. I'm hoping it's similar to ETS2
One of the most beautiful and engrossing games ever made. I remember catching an online glimpse of it on PC and the wishing began! Two wishes 1) having a stall for better economy 2) options to cultivate or modify the wild areas.
I've mostly been playing City Skylines and I've got a two area city crammed full of skyscrapers. Learnt to manage demographics to support the richer side of the city. I might jump into Assassins Creed Origins and free roam ancient Egypt, been watching several YT channels.
Price is a huge factor. I'd rather invest in a HOTAS stick or steering wheel for pc gaming. Second is replayabity. I don't play my MK8 enough as it is and I fear the novelty will wear off of this. However, if Nintendo released something robotic or drone - then it would have greater playability.
Absolutely can't stand this Diva at all. 1) He's totally up his own intestinal organs. 2) The people he rages against are probably kids whose money feed and clothe him. Wretched ungrateful thing.

My most played game. I think on my next play through I'm going to focus on a variety of crops instead of just mass producing one.
