The Stardew Valley 1.5 update has been in development all year now, so when is it going to be ready for release?
In a recent update over on Twitter, the game's creator Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone said it's now in the "home stretch". As you might have already worked out, it's a "very big update" so it requires a lot more polishing and bug fixing, but when it does arrive it'll include plenty of surprises.
Some tweets before this one revealed the long-requested split-screen co-op feature would finally be added to the game in this next update. It will support up to four players on some platforms, and two players on other systems.
Throughout the year, other information about version 1.5 has also been revealed. For example, there'll be new end-game content, possibly new areas to visit and even banana trees. You can read about all the previous updates on our Stardew Valley game page.

Brilliant! That sorts out the rest of 2020
Had stardew for a while.. just never played it. Will try it when the update is complete
Just started playing this game, and I’m loving it so far! Perfect for playing a little in handheld mode every day before going to sleep. It’s so relaxing.
I really tried to get into this game but I found the incredibly short days unappealing. This was when it first hit the Switch so I don’t know if that’s been updated. If so I could see myself giving it another chance.
Oh hell yes! So ready for this!
Nice, was actually thinking of starting a new save as I last played during v1.2 days. Will wait for 1.5 then.
Been waiting for splitscreen since the game came out!!
That will probably convince me to start a new game. I tried to pick up where I left off on v1.2 to discover the 1.4 endgame but I couldn't remember a thing.
Still have Stardew Valley on my wishlist. Think I would enjoy this more than Animal Crossing but we'll wait and see.
My most played game. I think on my next play through I'm going to focus on a variety of crops instead of just mass producing one.
This is so hard to go back to after a couple of years. The controls are crazy convoluted :/
I’m thinking of kicking off a new game...
I believe Switch owners are gonna have to wait even longer much like with 1.4.
This is great. I honestly can't wait to see it, and will start a new file when it comes out.
At the same time, I hope Eric Barone moves on to another game at some point. It's fun to have updates to Stardew, but I feel like at some point you have to say "done" and start putting all those new ideas into a new game.
Even more than the unusually short day cycle, I found the PC user interface very unappealing on the Switch. Navigating the menus was incredibly frustrating, and at the time I played, it seemed to be directly ported without redesigning it with button interfaces in mind.
So those that bought recently from FanGamer....don't have 1.5??
What a hero! I will probably have a second play through one day - if and when he ever finishes with it!
God damnit. I literally started a new game about 4 days ago (for the first time in two years) and I'm already pretty deep into it. I'm going to assume that I'll probably have to make a new save to experience the updates?
Can't wait for this!
Love this game so much, I can't wait to see what Mr. ConcernedApe has next!
I respect the support given to this game considering it’s not trying to peddle endless skins and DLC. I don’t own it but I think I’ll buy it next time it’s on a half decent sale to support the dev.
@Andy_Witmyer as far as I know, he's been focusing on adding new things for players that already have ongoing files with these latest updates.
@Sourcecode see that’s why I absolutely adore Stardew Valley. I hate days that are incredibly long or are “real time”. I tried to get into Animal Crossing and I just don’t like it for that reason.
@YourBiCon yeah I can absolutely see your point of view as well. It’s just a preference thing that changes from person to person. I can agree that AC being real-time can be a bit annoying. It gets to the point where there isn’t much to do in a day so you find yourself doing the dailies and switching to another game after about 15 minutes of play. It’s why have stopped playing AC New Horizons after only 80 hours or so of playtime. I believe the days in Breath of the Wild were probably perfect.
@Sourcecode You got 80 hours. I only got 25 hours and gave up. While my AC on 3ds had 300+ hours. Somehow I felt it wasn't all that much different or new compared to the 3DS version.
@hakjie11 I sank over 300 into New Leaf as well and what you have stated were exactly my thoughts on New Horizons. They didn’t change it up enough. At times I felt like I was playing a port of New Leaf. I doubt seriously I’ll be buying the next one (probably on the next system) unless I see some evidence of drastic changes to gameplay.
@Sourcecode I am hoping Nintendo would release a big city life DLC expansion where I can shop with my bells and meet with other random players in real time...kinda sick of paying Nook for everything on that 1 island...I should sue Nook for monopoly.
I am wanting to buy this game for my family. I am hoping that the Switch version will come out soon and that it might be able to have at least 3 player local coop.
@hakjie11 YES!! Nook and his monopoly are horrible! There should definitely be some sorta hub where players can get together to trade and shop. That would be awesome!
