It's been another busy week with plenty of new data from Nintendo revealing that the Switch has now outsold the NES, that Super Mario 3D All-Stars sold over 5 million copies in just 12 days, and even an updated list of Switch's best-selling games, so it's about time we sat back and had a breather, right?
With the weekend now upon us, it's time to discuss our weekend gaming plans. Members of Nintendo Life have done just that below, and we'd love for you to join in via our poll and comment sections. Enjoy!

Roaring through the first two No More Heroes titles gave me quite the hankering for the upcoming third instalment, so I've watched the excellent The Return trailer a number of times. Aside from this I've got Tropico 6 and Cobra Kai to review, so look out for those soon.
Otherwise I've been chipping away at Paradise Killer, and I'm about to start playing Pokémon Sword - my first pocket monster adventure since Pokémon White, so I'm a little apprehensive. Lastly, it's back to waiting for Destiny 2: Beyond Light to drop, though that's not on Switch. Of course, if it was, my life would basically be over, so I'm quite glad.

I’m not going to have the opportunity to play much this weekend, but any time I do nab will likely be spent with an upcoming release (I won’t spoil here). Still, if by some stroke of luck I manage to squeeze in a cheeky half hour, I’d love to get back to Banjo-Tooie. I’ve been dabbling with it for the last couple of weeks and it’s been eye-opening to revisit a game which felt so overwhelming the first time I through. The game hasn’t changed over the years, so it must be me. It’s good stuff!
Take care, everyone – it’ll be all right in the end.

This weekend, t'is myne day of birth! I shall avoid all chores and responsibilities and simply play video games to my heart's desire. On the menu: Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Pokémon Shield Crown Tundra DLC, Paper Mario: The Origami King, Luigi's Mansion 3, the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity demo, and OBVIOUSLY attending my birthday party in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Additionally, a friend is stopping by, and has many questions about which games to buy his daughter for Christmas with her very first Switch (and first console, ever). I plan to show him all of the above games, as well as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey, and more. If anyone has suggestions for other great titles to get a young'un who's new to gaming, drop them in the comments below!
Ryan Craddock, news editor
This weekend I'll continue working my way through the long list of legendary Pokémon I need to catch in Sword and Shield's Crown Tundra DLC. The number of times my team and I have got all the way to a legendary in the Dynamax Adventure thingy just to lose out at the last moment is starting to get painful now!
Elsewhere, I'm still mopping up the last of the collectables in LEGO Harry Potter Collection, although the end is finally in sight. Hopefully I'll have that done over the next few days. Have a good weekend everyone, and hang in there.

Last weekend’s spooky retro gaming romp coupled with the re-release of both No More Heroes titles had an unexpected consequence. My Wii is once again powered up for much-needed comfort gaming, starting this very weekend with yours truly producing some gameplay videos of my Wiiware collection. Star Soldier R, Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth, Contra Rebirth, Gradius Rebirth, Excitebike: World Rally and Military Madness: Nectaris (a series that deserves more love) are all frontrunners for my free time.
My game of the week is the extremely clever YesterMorrow. Don’t really want to spoil this one so just trust me on that. Join me next weekend as I pick up my next generation console. It is probably not the one you’re thinking...
As always, thanks for reading! Make sure to leave a vote in the poll above and a comment below with your gaming choices over the next few days...

My main goal at the moment is to finish the last route of If My Heart Had Wings which I should get done tonight. Also been playing some GROOVE COASTER WAI WAI PARTY!!!! and Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix for my rhythm game fix, checked out the first trail of the Lonely Mountains: Downhill DLC and I did a few runs of Iris and the Giant till I got my first win earlier today. I plan to start Borderlands with a friend later and I might try to squeeze in some Part Time UFO and Disc Room if I can find the time.
Have just completed the main story in Hades, so am starting to explore the post-game loop. The story was great, as are the characters, and the writing. The whole thing just comes together in the most glorious way... the game is a massive achievement by Supergiant, and could well re-define what a rogue-lite can be. Have a great weekend, guys, and stay safe.
Finishing up The Last Of Us II before AC: Valhalla. But also collecting a dozen or so stars in Mario Galaxy.
I've been getting back into Digimon Cyber Sleuth after a very lengthy hiatus (thanks to Animal Crossing, Pokémon Shield etc.). I've also been trying to get back into Super Mario Party, which is tricky due to the lack of handheld mode support. I want to at least unlock the other characters.
I've bought both physical expansion editions of Pokémon Sword/Shield yesterday, and have been picking up where I left off in Shield. I was lucky to run into a shiny Tangela last night, which is now a big fat green boy.
I also transferred my shiny Machop (now Machamp) from Let's Go Eevee, who can now Gigantamax into a very green and muscly boy. I've transferred my shiny Onix (now Steelix) as well, but I resent that I cannot bask in his shiny mega glory cue Animal Crossing crying reaction.
I’ll be continuing my shiny hunting for the tapu’s in dynamax adventures in pokemon shield. Also rise of the tomb raider on ps4 which has been a blast so far.
Kingdom Hearts 3 and Sonic Advance. Been super craving the Sonic Advance series for some reason. Would love an enhanced port collection on Switch rather than the Mega Drive games for the 70th time.
Rune Factory 4 with the game trials program. And right now I wish it lasted longer or that they would come together with a discounted price for the game on trial, really enjoying it!
Dipped back into Origami King after remembering how much I adored the OST, I'm now 100%ing the game, refighting all 12 bosses atm
Still plugging away at Xenoblade Chronicles. Currently 92 hours in and on Chapter 17, I finally can see the end. Those story cut scenes though, damn! Amazing experience.
EDIT: Oh, also some Hades. Recently bought that on sale and now I'm addicted. If there is such a thing as a perfect game this might be it.
Hoping to complete Team Sonic Racing story mode (I'm on chapter 6 out of 7) and might start playing Mario Maker 2.
I finally jumped on the bandwagon for Hades, are you all happy now?!
Seriously though, what I have played is awesome!
Found myself replaying Celeste this weekend. Unlike my first run two years ago, this time I'm going for every strawberry I can find, and so far I even finished a B-Side for the first time!
For me it’s bouncing between Gibbous and replaying MH3U on 3DS. Been craving MH since watching the Rise vids, and decided to give MH3 a full run since I never went past HR8 on it and instead jumped over to MH4U. Gibbous is a really fun PnC style game with excellent animation, a good story, and plenty of nods to past great PnC games. Also playing Hades on and off between those two.
@Ooyah Hades is soooo good! Been addicted to it since release. Think I did my 70th clear tonight.... so much still to unlock and do.
I played a lot of games on this weekend after i got my order yesterday. 😀
I played Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story PS4 in the morning, the only game made by Indonesian peoples (from Bandung).
I was shocked when i saw my Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Airu Mura G PSP UMD surface was quite dirty. I cleaned up the disc carefully after i tried to play before cleaned up, it won't even played. Fortunately, it worked after i cleaned up the UMD and i quickly created my Airu cat, Save and Quit as the game was heavily text based with a lot of Kanji words. 😩
In the evening before bath time, i played Para Para Paradise PS2 with official infra red controller for PS2 and Dance Dance Revolution 4th Mix PS1.
I'm not sure what games i will play tonight.
Maybe some Animal Crossing New Horizons to check my villagers situation.
Mainly modded skyrim and some x-com 2
Yep on god mode I managed to escape hades, have done 3 runs with the spear my favourite. Superb game well worth it. Not a rogue or whatever fan, but if you like action yeah it’s awesome. Just got 70 stars on Mario 64 again. Feeling like some bare knuckle 3 now on the mega drive collection. Happy gaming everyone. Also hope that mass effect remaster is announced today. Xxx
I've been playing My Time at Portia the past week. Picked it up on a eShop sale. It's really rather good. The world is large and very well crafted. A distant windmills blades cast shadows across my property, so the lighting is good. The town is lively with some very good NPC's. It's very satisfying to see your crafted builds adding to the game world. The crafting requires a LOT of sourcing and preparation which is good and bad. I find very little time to sandbox and sell my own crafts. There is this underlying pressure to save the town, which increases your workload. Basically you are kept busy. Exploring and relationships have to be squeezed in between work. I'm hoping things become balanced later in game. I've still got a dozen townspeople to meet also. Good game that requires planning.
Into the Breach as usual, Ni No Kuni, and in PC Control and Modern Warfare.
You know what I'm not playing?
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
It still hasn't been made available on the Australian or New Zealand eShop after it was removed months ago.
I'm playing Pokemon Sword aswell as Paper Mario The Origami King.
My Switch is back, but... contrary to the other party's initial confidence (likely stemming from the fact that, for all its recurrence, the whole variety of issues remains rather random), nothing has really improved. At least the core problem's been diagnosed and the service folks will give it another shot come Monday, but seeing as I've got the console on my hands until then (picked it up to check if the prior file errors on the cards themselves were the remnant culprits), I'll be falling back in internal memory for the weekend - thankfully, moving games to and from it has been the one job the MicroSD slot still does without hijinks. I'm downloading some of the new acquisitions there as well, including Ni no Kuni, Kingdom New Lands and A Magical High School Girl - the latter generally a familiar Shiren-style crawler but standing out for its ability to name your spells and linguistically define their characteristics. Yes, I'm spamming My Little Pony names for the most part, need you even ask?
@Dm9982
Oh i love MH3U,
it is so a great Feature to be able to transfare the save Game between 3DS and Wii U and even play local together with those two Systems.
Thats what gave me thinking back than that the next Nintendo System will be a System that can Crossplay between local and mobile Console.
NX for Nintendo Cross(play) or something
Focusing on Atelier Ryza, which I'm about 45 hours into.
A whole lot of Trails of Cold Steel 4, about 50 hours in and it's going to be my GotY.
Last night I finished up Ori and the Will of the Wisps, and man, this here it my GOTY. Despite pausing midway through to wait for that patch, and despite having it even crash after that due to some framerate issues in handheld mode (I ended up playing docked after that and experienced no issues), the game was absolutely phenmonenal. That musical score and those boss fights/chase scenes gave me the absolute chills. The exploration that made use of my abilities was even better than the last game. This is landing near the top of my list of my favourite games of all time, right with the original.
Aside from that, I'll probably try to finish up DKC2 before my NSO runs out. I'll be playing our new Ms. Pacman Arcade 1up along with our Golden Tee. And I may boot up some Hades to do some more runs to get more of the story, or possibly finally get back into Hotshot Racing.
Waiting on AC Valhalla so might play a bit more AC odyssey - if I can drag myself away from Anthem which I've just picked up cheap and currently enjoying
Xenoblade Chronicles and Octopath Traveler.
Animal Crossing New Horizons.
But, I am quickly doing chores on ACNH and then going into Spiritfarer.
Spiritfarer is an absolutely fantastic game. It is one of those games that you think about when you are not gaming. What I will do next, how do I get this resources, etc.
I played a little of Part Time UFO: it is what they say it is, and that is good. If I wasn't so stuck on Spiritfarer, I would play more.
Happy gaming, everyone!
@GregamanX Good job finishing! Ori is so high on my wish list. Is it better than the first one? Did the patch make it better, you say it crashed after?
Happy birthday Austin! This weekend, t'is myne day of birth as well! So, I will be attending my birthday in Animal Crossing New Horizons too. Besides that, I'll put some time in it-never-stops-giving Persona 5 Royal and some in Rocket League, which has become almost a daily habit. To top it off, I'll finish Rexxar's Book of Heroes in Hearthstone and plan to play some Nioh which I started last week as well. Busy busy!
Fire Emblem Three Houses (Azure Moon), and Pokémon Sword Nuzlocke
@dugan Yeah it was surprisingly better than the first game (and the first was nearly perfect on my eyes). The game did crash again for me after the patch in a section of Baur's Reach (the snow area), after the framerate reduced to a crawl of 1 FPS. The horrendous framerate also happened to me in the midnight burrows at a point, but luckily it didn't crash. This all happened during handheld mode though. When I switched to docked mode I didn't experience either framerate issues or crashing. From that point on, everything was smooth as butter. And really, docked mode is how a gorgeous game like this should be played anyway.
@Azuris Yeah I think I like MH3U over MH4U to be honest. I like the elements on the bow better on 3 than 4, they feel a lot more worthy. Honestly my only complaint on 3 was the underwater sections, which can be easily remedied with LBG/HBG Norm 3 shots, lol. 4U I had a lot of fun with, but didn’t like the apex monsters, and never felt like grinding for GQ140 mix and match gear.
So MHGU, MH3U, then MH4U would be my order.... can’t wait for Rise! Hopefully it’ll dethrone MHGU, but that’s a VERY tall order. Over 1400 hours on MHGU alone between 3DS and Switch versions.
Feliz cumpleaños Austin!
I am playing Persona 5 Royal, and Animal Crossing, I put it aside some time, but it kook me up again.
Bioshock on Switch and Odin Sphere Leifthrasir on PS4.
Still messing around with Animal Crossing New Horizon. I’ll throw in some Smash and Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate as well. And going old school on the Sega Genesis Mini playing Phantasy Star 4.
Haven't played much in recent days. If I play, it'll probably be Rocket League(training, 3v3, or Dropshot) or Splatoon 2.
Pokémon Sword Isle of Armour expansion which is nice but the environments could do with more detail.
Also playing Donkey Kong Country which is still amazing today. Tried Super Mario 35 but got bored quickly, prefer Tetris 99 a lot more.
@Glitchling78 Having the Sonic Advance games on Switch is a great idea. They're great games and I'm also fed up of seeing the Genesis/Mega Drive ones being re-released all the time.
this weekend while im out of town, im pretty much playing Xenoblade 1 for my Switch Lite. also from the Walmart store while im shopping around, i might buy either Dragon Quest VIII or at least Yo Kai Watch 1
Mainly Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night on Xbox via Game Pass, almost 100%'d the map, but there's 4 more pesky hidden rooms I'm missing!
Contemplating picking up Spelunky 2 on PS4 while its on sale. Other than that, more Dragon Quest XI. Also started a new game of Skyrim and the latest Diablo 3 season.
This week I will be mostly playing
Star Fox Adventures
Pokémon White
Two Point Hospital
I am gonna play alot of Minecraft:)
I’m playing dk64 on my 64. With my brawler64
Just beat Planescape Torment, I may have to run through it again... it’s unbelievable the amount of content I missed!
Other than that I’m enjoying Shenmue 3 on my PS4. Why haven’t Shenmue 1+ 2 been ported to the switch yet?
Gaming ADD has me flirting between Dragon Quest XI S and Hades on Switch and Outer Wilds on PC. They are all equally great in very different ways!
Just this last Wednesday I finally finished Dream Team after slogging it out for more than two weeks. I really enjoyed playing it again, but the game honestly had too much padding. Took me longer to finish than any other game in this marathon so far. Actually Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door and Dream Team both took about 30 hours, but with Paper Mario I did that entirely within Labor Day weekend instead of dragging it out over weeks. At least I really enjoyed both games though. From then until Friday evening I did a quick run through of Super Mario 3D World (didn't 100% since it's coming to Switch).
Now I'm on Mario and Luigi Paper Jam. This is a bit of a landmark for me because it's the first game in this marathon I've never played. So far the game feels a bit weird to me for some reason... possibly because it's the only Mario and Luigi game that I didn't play when it first came out so it's unfamiliar to me.
I'm also playing a game I found on sale called Jenny LeClue. It's kind of like Night in the Woods with some detective elements. I like it!

i alternating between the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild(that my cousin lent to me last saturday)and my Animal Crossing New Horizons(460h), i now playing more the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild that my cousin have lent last saturday then my Animal Crossing New Horizons, because i have been playing my Animal Crossing New Horizons since 25th of april with 460h and counting, and i feeling a bit fastigated by my Animal Crossing New Horizons.
Pokemon Fire Red (GBAsp)
Monster Hunter generations (3DS)
Mario Strikers Charged (Wii / Wii U)
AND Mario Strikers (Gamecube) ooooh yea!
@Lynox Heck yeah, birthday buddy!
@AlienigenX Thank you!!
Hoping to get proper stuck into Darkest Dungeon; I started it back on Tuesday and I'm already really liking the game's gothic horror ambience.
Patience is key; I know it'll get very difficult, very soon.
Might also start Crypt of the Necrodancer and Enter the Gungeon which I purchased from recent sales.
Been also playing a lot more Binding of Issac as of late. Funny, since I wasn't fond of the gross art style initially.
Still working through Celeste. Right now I'm focused on the playthrough and ignoring the strawberries when I find no way to get them after a few tries. When I get to a longer play session I want to continue Octopath Traveler, but this unlikely since my exams come nearer every weak and I have much to prepare.
Still there will be time for ACNH daily tasks, I think.
I decided to start a 3rd playthrough of botw. Absolutely love that game. Aside from that maybe some more dq11 and no more heros
I'm still making my way through Super Mario Sunshine, so I'll be playing more of that this weekend. I might also get back into Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX for a bit as well this weekend. Beyond those games, probably more of the usual Mario Kart 8 (the four year old loves playing this game), and Super Smash Bros..
Finishing up Bioshock 3 this weekend. Awesome game! Strongly recommend it. I missed it last Gen and love the story, graphics and gunplay
@wazlon I mean personally I’d like a whole Sonic Nintendo handheld collection. I think the 3DS games might be going too far but a package of the GBA & DS games would be amazing. The DS games would need some tinkering to make them single screen but I’d say it’s worth it since they’re good games.
@Glitchling78 That would be awesome. Sonic Rush is one of my favourite games and I liked Rush Adventure and Colours too. Wouldn't be bothered too much about the 3DS games but the GBA and DS ones would be amazing.
Interesting, one NLer hated YesterMorrow, for another it's the game of the week.
Probably just a little ACNH this weekend. I have a lot going on in the next couple of days. Been itching for some Fire Emblem Three Houses though.
I've been hooked on the Pokemon experience ever since it arrived in the mail last week, so now I've been journeying through the Galar region any time I pick up my Switch.
Just waiting now for Sakuna to arrive in the mail, and then I'll be playing nothing but that!
Mostly just Hotshots Racing for me. Great fun.
Ni No Kuni (Switch) and Zelda ALttP (3DS) for myself, and Trials of Mana (Switch) with my brothers.
Playing FFIX, hunting shinies in Dynamax Adventures, and picking up branches in ACNH.
Honestly, I'm not really going to be playing anything this weekend. As an American, I've spent all week watching the election results come in (and it's been coming in VERY slowly), and I'll continue to do so until a winner is definitively projected.
*it does work now, thanks @guamyankee !
Finally relented and picked up Rayman Legends and Southpark SoT during the most recent monthly Ubisoft sale. Already finished Rayman and halfway through Southpark which I’ll be playing pretty much exclusively this weekend. Both great games and at around $10 each just fantastic value
For me, it's all Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2. Running through episode 2 now. I hadn't realized this game is this long lol but I will see it through to the end.
I'll be giving Secret of Mana via the Switch's Collection of Mana a proper first look; I've played the first few minutes on the SNES Classic before, but that's it. I absolutely loved Final Fantasy Adventure/Seiken Densetsu 1, and I'm sure this (and eventually Trials of Mana) is very much worth my time. It MUST be, since people have been singing its praises since the 90s. XD
Elsewhere, I'm still collecting Moons in Super Mario Odyssey. It's nice, leisurely, exploring fun (other than a few frantic moments). I'm not going for 100% completion (especially with racing involved... ugh), but my goal is to get over 600 Moons before moving on.
Have an awesome weekend! Happy gaming, and stay safe!
Finally bought RE: REVELATIONS 2 last week during the sale. And the new Raid mode is FANTASTIC; the real successor to MERCENARIES. I can't get enough!
Hopefully I will manage to give Pikmin 3 a real try since it’s arrived this past week. I’d also like to try out the Hyrule Warriors demo.
Have a great weekend everyone!
This weekend hopefully I can finish two paths of fe3h. Depending on how that goes might finish up isle of armor & then see what the hypes about for crown tundra!
You guessed it. More AC:NH for me.
FE3H on Switch and Mario Kart World Tour on my phone.
Mostly XB1 stuff though I may finish off Galaxy this weekend.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) - Finally arrived at the Fire Temple, my second favourite dungeon!
Halo: Spartan Assault (Windows Phone) - This is a decent twin stick shooter tbh.
AlphaJax (Windows Phone) - Running into loads of issues now with the workaround and having trouble running the app at all.
Going for my 20 heat escape on Hades.
I do need to start Mario Galaxy (which i have never played). So may do that later!
I'm working on Ni No Kuni, it was off to a little bit of a slow start but it's starting to pick up a bit. Also still trying to 100% FE3H (currently on the 4th playthrough). I'm on floor 18 with Ys Origin...I feel like I could've finished it by now but the other games are stealing my attention lmao.
I'm mainly getting into Pikmin 3 Deluxe. Starting on easy since I want to relax a bit, and want to make sure I understand how to the final boss before gong into the harder difficulties. Also, I want to make sure I don't have too many problems grabbing as many medals as I can.
I'm not feeling like making any other big commitments, and since I'm burnt out on Tetris 99, I figured Mario 35 would be perfect for some fast multiplayer rounds. Also, I got the demo for Mad Rat Dead, and might hop into that a few more times. It's a really cool rhythm platformer game by the Disgaea devs.
I’ll be playing Ark, and there was an incident involving raptors murdering 4 of my parasaurs, so I’m going to craft a shotgun and get even. RIP Wanda, Tina, Pork, and Beans.
Also Grizzland is on sale here for 1.99, so I might get that.
Genshim Impact is the name of the game for moi-need to kill the dragon and continue questing. Other Switch are backlog needed game play....including Sniper series which needs finishing.
Genshin Impact, of course, doing some dailies and build my characters. Thursday I got Qiqi, but I do not like her. I mean, freezing the enemies is cool, but the raw damage is small compared to my Razor or Traveler Anemo;
Learn Japanese to Survive! Katakana War, I'm studying Japanese real hard, even on my games lol
Personally, I am playing Underhero, an awesome little platformer/rpg that flew under my radar back when it originally released. Glad I am experiencing it now.
Hades. I am literally addicted and it's all I can play!!!
I finished Fire Emblem Awakening yesterday. Really enjoyed it but glad I was able to make it to the end. The last few maps were a bit of a challenge as my team felt quite under levelled. Given I've played Three Houses, Birthright and Awakening essentially back to back, I've decided to wait a while before starting Shadows of Valentia. My next 3DS game will be Ocarina of Time (first time playing it).
On Switch I've started Mario Galaxy off properly now. On the second set of galaxies so far.
I'd love to also start Trails of Cold Steel on the PS4, but on that side of the fence I'm trying to avoid getting into too much at the moment with the imminent arrival of Demon's Souls.
Played a lot of Ni No Kuni. This game is just fantastic: not too easy, looks brilliant and the story wants you to play more! The Switch changed my view again about a game I didn't like in the past.
@Dpullam I got that on discount last week. Looks marvellous. I won't start it for a little while yet though.
Dragon Quest 11. Currently stuck on the bit where you have to fight jinxed Jade in the monster casino. Damm that girl is tough.
Haven't played much this weekend though tbh. Just really enjoying the news right now. Straight up bants yo 😄👍
I’ve just been playing Mario Sunshine on GameCube. Now I’ve finished it and have started The Chaos Engine on SNES.
@PapaMurphy I am only 5 hours in so far, but it has been a joy, and the humor has been right up my alley! Hopefully you will like it!
Mario Maker 2 (loads of fun) and I also got the 3ds out and downloaded mario land. Completed it on the first go but it was a great nostalgia blast, back to when it seemed almost impossible to have a mario game that you could play in school.
Happy Birthday weekend @austin_voigt! I’ve just played Super Mario Bros. 35. Playing it every day to do the challenges and get to level 100! Love unlocking the icons and looking forward to playing as Luigi. Should probably get back to Sunshine, took a break from it to play RE: Revelations 2 over Halloween. Have a good weekend all, what’s left of it.
@echoplex If you manually download the new dlc from the online store the game will start working again.
I've been playing tons of Hyrule Warriors DE, getting ready for Age of Calamity along with Pokemon this weekend.
Hopefully I'll be able to have more time with The Last Story. I'd like to explore the town more and get more comfortable with the fighting system.
