Although there's been no mention of the Switch version of Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate receiving a physical release in North America, the game appears to be getting a hard-copy release on the hybrid system in the UK (and seemingly other parts of Europe).
A listing for a physical version - including Mortal Kombat 11, Kombat Pack 1, Aftermath Expansion and Kombat Pack 2 - recently popped up on Amazon UK. It's priced at £49.99 and pre-orders are now available (with the release scheduled for 17th November, as previously announced). Here's a look at the box art:
According to the product description, the box for this "definitive" Mortal Kombat 11 experience contains a Switch cartridge.
As highlighted by Nintendo Everything, the Ultimate edition of MK11 in North America is currently a digital-only release, so if you really want a hard copy and happen to be located in this particular region, you'll just have to import it. Other countries such as Australia seem to be getting a physical release, but the catch is it's a "download code only" version and is clearly marked as this on the front of the game case.

God bless the UK
Probably not all on the cartridge as per usual.
I haven't actually played MK11 on Switch but I'm seriously impressed at all the technical circumventing the port team had to do to retain performance parity with the other versions. However that came at the expense of the Krypt looking like an early gen PS2 game hastily ported to Dreamcast
The base game is 31gb, there's no way this is all on cart unless it's the first 64gb cartridge release, which is unlikely
Would love to have such a thing though to save space
I had to archive some of my games on a 128gb sd... Now I'm thinking of picking up a 400gb sd to maybe avoid losing games after the inevitable digital store shutdown
Still haven't picked this game up yet. Glad I waited though, best to get the complete package, hope this specific version comes to the U.S. That case art is my favorite between all the versions of MK11 (vanilla, Aftermath and Ultimate)
@Slowdive It's 31gb, not 22gb. I have it digitally and every time I try to clear up space I notice it's massive size sitting there.
My retailer in Bulgaria had this for pre-order for a month now.
I asked them if they know about the download requirement but they said that the publisher did not share information on that.
Had the regular copy before
But it had a bad issue of crashing a lot !
The game played ok the graphics were a bit and miss
But if you really want a mk game it's not to bad.
@NullPointerExcep Digital store shutdown?
I wouldn't get too excited. In all likelihood, they'll just repackage the old cartridges with a download code in the case. A revised cartridge with the DLC unlocked from the get-go would be a better value proposition than the previous release (though one is still likely to incur a massive download), but I can't see Warner Bros. splashing cash on a full cartridge edition.
Even if Warner Bros. were to theoretically issue a physical edition with EVERYTHING on the cart, unless the physical edition of MK11 Ultimate is treated as a separate piece of software to MK11, then if Warner Bros. issues so much as a single software update after the fact, however inconsequential, then users will have to download the ENTIRETY of the software update (25GBs or so), because software updates are downloaded in their entirety (from Version 1.0 to current) regardless of how up-to-date one's cartridge is, virtually negating the point of having a full cartridge at all (unless you refuse to update the software).
If this, however, is an honest physical release, then I will absolutely consider it.
I reckon it's a download code and Amazon's product listing is just incorrect. It wouldn't be the first time.
Hell yeah! Now this is more like it!
@Bearzilla823 It won't happen anytime soon so it's not that big of a deal for the Switch, but it could happen sometime later like it already happened in some countries with the Wii U and 3ds eShops
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/04/nintendo_to_shutdown_limited_wii_u_and_3ds_eshops_in_select_countries
But if it comes to that we'll be warned with enough time left I hope
I think even the Wii Shop still let people redownload stuff though? So not that big of a risk but eventually I'll pick a sd card big enough to have everything downloaded just in case, also, less nuisance having to redownload games anyway
If it's all on the cart I'll buy it.
Number of DLC characters by game:
Mortal Kombat (2011): 4
Injustice: Gods Among Us: 6
Mortal Kombat X: 8
Injustice 2: 10
Mortal Kombat 11: 12
Zero interest, the Krypt and Towers are online only.
MK11 is basically a live service.
What a way to screw us over here Warner Bros. At this point everything should be on the cartridge.
@Magician on Switch yeah
Switch is the only platform with that limitation. It's a stupid limitation but the other platforms are always there, will remove that restriction and look significantly better
@HotGoomba___Rebrand God save the Queen.
I don’t know why this article, of all things, triggered this memory but boy would it be swell to get a solid, modern remake of Clay Fighter. Online multiplayer would be so fun!
Is it for UK or is it England?
Many sites falsely claims random releases is for UK, but is in reality for England only.
@TheFrenchiestFry The Towers and Krypt are online only in every version, only things what can be played offline is the story and Klassic Tower.
Fine, I’ll import it. Been wanting it for a while anyway. Congrats UK.
I'm just here for your daily reminder that Kombat Pack 2 isn't available on Switch. No skin pack for preordering. Thanks, WB.
I would seriously consider this is it was actually coming on cart. As mentioned though it would have to be a bigger size cart (I've been saying for ages that Nintendo needs to get the 64gb released and start reducing costs of the smaller sizes to stop the half game/half code rubbish.)
@Slowdive the Total size Is 31,6gb without expansions... I have It... And physical versione Is unusefull... Because I think,likes the vanilla mk11, they Will use cartdrige only di 6gb, the rest must be downloaded
@dojmin in fact I preordered the full pack on cdkeys...It contains the game (that I already have) and all expansions...but there the cost Is 40 instead of 60 of the Nintendo eshop or the "physical" version... (Physical...only 6 GB on cartdrige...)
@Brummieendo90 I'm afraid It Will Not... WB May use a 64gb One because the game vanilla Is 31,5... And the First realase has a 6gb cart...
@Ventilator I live i Wales and have never come across an England only release.
The fear of the eShop going kaput is palpable. Does anyone here game on the PC? Those games are download only. My Acer laptop doesn't even have an optical drive. I just can't see publishers supporting cartridges in the long term, and cartridges with DLC is impractical unless it's a done & dusted GoTY at the end of its life.
Like some have said I'll definitely grab this if all of it was on the cart. However I doubt that will be the case.
@ChaosBadger777 Okay then.
@NullPointerExcep I've bought 5 sd cards with 256 GB of space (worked out cheaper than getting a few 512gb cards, I think they were on sale) and that way I don't have to archive software, I have everything downloaded and I switch out the sd cards (remember 5k turn it off before removing the card, don't remove it when the switch is in sleep mode)
I'm thinking long term. I wanna be able to play these games in 10 years time. When the servers have been shut off and you can't download the games anymore
There really needs to be more consistency with physical releases. I know that different regions have different management and market restrictions blah blah blah but this rarely happens on other consoles.
Shop to have mortal kombat 38.85 pound
https://www.shopto.net/en/swmo88-mortal-kombat-11-ultimate-edition-p535364/
And it's a code in the box 😡
@Mirage-5x5
So it has no cartridge? Just a code?
@luxoricious it has no cartridge at all just a code
I order my copy of shop to and when I got it I found a code in the box not good at all.
I given up on MK because the DLC kept raining. Even now it's the ultimate edition, my feelings are still mixed
@Mirage-5x5 Is that the Ubisoft logo on the spine??? seems fake
@Flashlink99 there is no ubi soft logo on there.
when can b release in PH
