I don't have any particular interest in it over any other Platformers (I enjoy them but am so bad I can only beat easier ones), but if it goes on a decent sale I'll pick up almost any Nintendo game if I've got some cash at the time. I have 0 interest in playing TOTK but still picked it up on sale for 30 bucks, that's a steal for a First-Party Nintendo game.
@Jeronan Except they have software that can detect cloned Pokémon, as proven as recent of BDSP when they patched the cloning glitch, and made any cloned Pokémon unable to be sent to Home or Traded. So they have the ability to stop such a thing with Cloud Saves and instead just don't bother.
There's really no excuse why Pokémon games can't have cloud save backups. Their excuse is, 'there might be a way to clone Pokémon', yet they've proven as recent as BDSP they can easily detect cloned or altered Pokémon and make them untradeable and unable to be transferred to Home if they want to. No Pokémon are really even that rare anymore, even for the ones that're one per save, there's been a website for every Gen for creating Pokémon that they never do anything about. It's just the usual Pokémon Company way of doing things the worst way possible.
This is why I don't get people going, "I'm not getting a Switch 2 because they're not making X game", as if what they've shown is all they'll have for a long time. It's such a bizarre form of tunnel vision.
There's really no reason they couldn't have put the stuff from the app in-game via a new menu option. But ultimately it just feels like they wanted a way to charge for BOTW & TOTK's upgrades knowing how popular they were.
@N00BiSH I'd imagine if NSMBU Deluxe has room for technical improvement in areas, so does Wonder. But considering it doesn't have one, I think there's a strong possibility it'll be getting a paid upgrade at a later date with new content.
Are there even 512GB and 1TB micro SD express cards? I've only seen 256GB ones, which is a big reason I'm in no hurry to get my Switch 2 invite order. Between the new internal and a 256 card, it'd still be less storage than what I have now, which is almost full. So I'd only be using my Switch 2 for actual Switch 2 games or ones with upgrades & versions specifically.
As much as I'd love a performance boost for ACNH, I'd rather have a new game. New Horizons just felt like a boneless New Leaf, and I have a feeling it wouldn't have done great if not for the extremely specific time it launched.
@VoidofLight You also couldn't buy DS games digitally, so they definitely wanted a new one for 3DS sooner rather than later that could be sold that way.
@CaptainQuo Most companies do remakes/remasters to fill the gaps. Persona 5 was the Skyrim of JRPGs, so I'd assume they're a bit scared P6 won't live up to the hype which is why we keep getting remakes and spin-offs to continue the story. And while Persona 1 & 2 would be cool, they're more SMT than what people know as Persona. So they probably think they'd be better off remaking actual SMT games than those 2.
It's so strange how they choose to add these post-Event, as these are really old and probably should've been added awhile ago. Then again their whole approach to the game is weird, as between games they skipped and doing repeats, they could very easily have 1 Event per month.
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is the only odd one here, as while I don't like SV or SwSh, I understand a big reason they're here is there's no longer a barrier between Nintendo's home and handheld consoles. Although I wonder if ACNH would be on the list at all if it didn't release when it did.
@Anti-Matter I will admit, there's a silver lining in that playing these mid Pokémon games for so long made other RPGs feels so much better and refreshing comparatively. It's the reason I'm really hyped for Digimon Story: Time Stranger later this year and not Legends ZA.
@Gatorclops The stories have been improving in these later games, I'll give them that. SM, USUM, SwSh, Legends Arceus, & SV all had either interesting plots or individual character arcs that were fun to follow.
And yeah, I definitely feel like Nintendo is giving the other members of TPC insane time crunches. Especially after the leaks where ILCA wanted to essentially add all the improvements and extras from Platinum to the original story of DP, but were given such an insane deadline they ended up having to re-use most of the original DS games' source code for BDSP. The lack of new spin-offs that aren't mobile games also makes the flaws with the main games more apparent, as there's nothing between the release gaps now so the latest entries get extra analyzed.
Proof that Pokémon is Nintendo's CoD and quality is irrelevant. It will sell because it's Pokémon and each entry being good or bad doesn't influence sales, so they don't care. Seriously, why make an open world game that's not really open world because it doesn't scale? It's not like BOTW where even with early equipment you can win with personal skill, it's an RPG where the numbers of Levels and Stats determine everything. And they knew it was an issue because SV are the only games in the series where random Trainer Battles are all optional.
It's sad because I see a lot of good qualities in SV, but even if they fix the performance issues, having a game that's open world but not really is just bad. Which is weird, because they did it right with their first attempt in Legends: Arceus: There's plenty of off the path and hidden areas that can be both reached on foot or later on with new abilities, and while there are random high Level Pokémon wandering about in the form of Alphas, you can attempt to catch them or get a sneak attack advantage over them so they're not just meaningless hazards.
I'm not paying extra for amiibo. They don't have the same kind of use as actual accessories to justify that big of a jump in price, and Nintendo games have been having less and less games that have amiibo features, let alone ones that need specific amiibo.
Yeah no thanks, I'll just be getting unofficial cards that function like the amiibo from now on. $20 was already pushing it considering the quality and number of uses hadn't improved like the initial increase, and I can't see sales doing well.
I guess I'm just not using my Switch 2 for anything but Switch 2 games and games with Switch 2 Editions, because a 256G card plus the internal is still less than my current microSD which is almost full. Someone said there's a 1TB card but that it's bad, can anyone else confirm or deny?
@Scarmucci Seems so, thought I think it's an overall price increase like when they went from $12.99 to $15.99 rather than region specific. GameStop has the TOTK ones listed at $19.99, so a 4 dollar increase, and GameStop listings were the ones which confirmed only physical copies of Switch 2 games would cost more.
Thankfully they bumped up the prices of the accessories so the people acting like Nintendo was gonna have the Switch 2 be $900 in the US still have something to complain about. Even then, the only substantial increases are to things with actual tech in them like the controllers and dock, which is understandable.
But... is there really nothing bigger than 256 for micro SD Express cards right now? My current is almost full and 512GB is as much storage as the Switch 2's internal and the only card I've seen combined.
I just wish they kept actually adding uses for them. The Wolf Link amiibo is the perfect sweet spot of adding unique things to multiple games without feeling like physical DLC, but it feels like it's been a long time since they tried.
I also wish people wouldn't jump the gun on things like this and would just wait rather than spread doom and gloom. Nintendo's not gonna bump up the price to something unreasonable in one of their biggest markets, because then units won't sell, which would mean they'd take a loss on the console manufacturing, the tariffs to ship it, and not make money from software. It's likely gonna be a negligible price increase for most, and remember, a reevaluation can come to the same conclusion as before.
And if it is too expensive, just don't buy it right away. If enough people do that, the base price will be cut before the natural discounts. Since the Switch 2 is backwards compatible, they're not gonna shut down the servers for Switch 1 games like MK8 DX or Smash Ultimate, keep playing those. Play your game backlog in the meantime. If you somehow don't have one, try new games or genres that you might find yourself sucked into. There's plenty of alternatives to do until it becomes affordable, if it's even a big price increase.
Seems they're only charging for Switch 2 Versions that add things and not just graphical and FPS boosts... and they tacked on something most people won't use to charge for BOTW & TOTK.
@Mallow I think a lot of people are just used to Nintendo consoles being the more budget friendly console option since the Wii, as the GameCube was the last time they really put effort into things like competitive graphics.
@PikminMarioKirby Nintendo seems pretty good at optimizing their own games unlike companies like Ubisoft, Activision, & Warner Bros. So I can easily see them adding content and upgrading things and still manage to have it be a smaller install. Especially for something that's not open world where there's a ton of random factors that might meet or trigger and cause issues.
That's great, especially since the Switch was great for Co-op and Local Play. So pretty much everyone buying a Switch 2 will have some extra controllers.
Love the people blaming the current President, and not the previous administration where the price of everything more than doubled, the direct cause and effect of the tariffs to try and reduce prices long term. However we in the US were gonna have to pay more either way - either through tariffs or the same leadership as the past 4 years turning USD into Monopoly money. Even if the tariffs are a failure, they're a lot easier to get rid of than years of inflation.
The price increase is only for the physical side, digital versions will still be at the standard $70 or $60 they said would be case by case for games starting with TOTK. But if physical sales crawl to a halt, they'll either backtrack or stores will just stock less Switch 2 games from now on. But physical media is way more prevalent in say Japan than the US, so it'll lean more on how those markets respond to this.
Though IMO, ultimately unless it's a game you've been waiting for a long time to happen or it just never goes on sale (ex. being Pokémon games which only get discounts via stores like Walmart or Target), you should be trying to shop during sales anyways. Even if it's only $20 off, it adds up when you continue the habit.
I hope they do it a few games at a time, and I hope they do that to add Cross-play to the Campaigns. Because as far as I'm aware, the Multiplayer is all Cross-play between Xbox and PC, however only the Halo 3 and I think ODST have it as far as Campaigns go.
It could also just be worded or thought out poorly, as, well yeah, the MCC wouldn't contain 5 or Infinite which would be 'all' the main Halo games.
I'd love to see a Switch 2 upgrade for Kirby's Dream Buffet that has 4 Player Local Play. But unfortunately I'd see them just making a new game instead of improving the original, if they even did either.
They're releasing Packs way to fast if they want this game to not burn out and end in 2 years. And not only are they releasing too fast, the powercreep brought with each one is also insane. Most games would give you more ways to earn Pulls the more they add, but nope, not this one. They're gonna find F2P players giving up and the few people who pay are gonna be frustrated their cards are worthless ever 30 days.
Enjoyed my time with the game, but aside from the new levels of customization and a few QoL changes, it really was just a boneless New Leaf. The holidays especially felt boring and meaningless compared to previous entries.
Wonder if for Home they'll just have to axe the GO Dex if anything happens. Not like it would've ever been completable at the rate Niantic was doing things anyways.
@DwaynesGames Very rarely they have make-up Events where you can earn around 5 previous Themes by playing and unlocking others not currently available with Tickets. But it's just strange they don't do more of those, especially since the unlock Events are only a few days each in length.
Sounds like a few toy companies are trying to focus more on gaming now. Hasbro's been knocking it out of the park with Transformers toys in particular but there profits from it are down like crazy, so they're thinking about scaling down toy production and increasing game production. Potential start of this is a project with the Space Marine 2 devs, with their engine with really good vehicle physics for either a Transformers or GI Joe game.
@Anachronism It's really bizarre they don't do them more often, especially with how many games they've passed over. That and the fact the Events to earn previous ones you might've missed are sparse too.
@BrazillianCara That and why Nintendo seemingly doesn't care about the quality like their other IPs. If a Mario or Kirby game had any of the problems Scarlet Violet had and launched, heads would roll. But since it's not theirs and it sells anyways, they couldn't care less.
This is the equivalent of if Nintendo remade Mario 64 as a 2D game, because "well the previous Mario games were 2D so it wouldn't make sense to be in 3D".
It'll entirely depend on how well it's executed. Since there's presumable no PvP like Legends Arceus, if they AI isn't perfectly balanced and is instead say, really stupid or annoyingly good, it's going to make or break it for a lot of people. If in most instances the AI will just take hits and you can mostly avoid getting hit, it's not engaging and people will get bored. But they also can't have every Wild Encounter feel like a fight for your life, that's going to turn off a lot of people too.
Then there's things from the series they'll have to properly translate to real time combat that they didn't have to think about for Legends Arceus. Are fast Pokemon gonna be able to dart around the battlefield avoiding everything while slow Pokemon just get destroyed? Are there gonna be a specific handful of Moves that just trivialize the game, where as in a Turned Based format Moves you might run like Hydro Pump, Scald, Surf, or Muddy Water might all be wanted on the same Pokemon for different reasons?
There's A LOT you have to think about for Real Time Combat, especially when moving from Turn Based. And I'm not sure GameFreak is gonna be capable of handling such a big, complex task when they fumble much simpler ones. I'm not saying they can't, but considering they couldn't even make a proper open world with scaling for Scarlet & Violet, I don't see this working.

Re: Opinion: Legends Z-A's Xenoblade-Style Battles Are Pokémon's Most Exciting Evolution In Years
It'll entirely depend on how well it's executed.
