Glad they added a sprinkle of extra healing items, as there really should be more with each hero being your only Lives for a Level instead of the usual Extra Lives & Continues most other Beat 'Em Ups have. Nice additions and changes overall, and it's good to know they still have time for it while also about to release Scott Pilgrim EX. Hoping the closeness of the two releases doesn't impact either getting DLC.
Have a feeling they'll have more marketing for the 30th Anniversary than actually having anything for it. As an example, pretty sure despite the fact they were in the initial announcement of GameCube games, they've been holding onto Colosseum & XD Gale of Darkness to pretend like they're a big surprise for the 30th Anniversary, with not much else planned. As usual I'd love to be proven wrong, but TPC tends to disappoint.
I'm curious if these Mario Sports games will survive much longer. Not because of quality, but because of pricing. $70 or even the previous $60 will seem a bit extreme to people for something like Mario Tennis nowadays, especially since the online likely won't have a long shelf life of a playerbase. And game companies just don't seem to realize that a $10 price difference could make or break sales numbers drastically. If it was priced at $50, regardless of quality you'll have more people buying it simply because it was a little cheaper.
But considering Nintendo only bothers discounting things when they're not as well finically, I think it's more likely the games just don't sell well after a certain point and get put on the shelf with F-Zero for eternity, only to be referenced and never made again.
@obijuankanoobie So in order to play the Virtual Boy for more than a few minutes it's like taking small doses of a poison to build a minor form of immunity. That cannot be healthy lol.
@hcfwesker Nooo, ignore the fact companies are spending trillions on developing AI and buying up all components that are also used in game consoles and PCs for it! Orange man bad!
But anyways, yeah, the Chat system was not a great idea. Even without hindsight of shortages, if it's not as simple as using a headset and the console itself, it's a feature people won't use, let alone in an era where we have things like Discord.
@MamaSymphonia It's almost like the rest of the World was using said country as their ATM, and the people of said country were the ones getting screwed. Cause and Effect is wild.
@Jumwa Personally I don't think it's the fault of the richest, most powerful country that the entire World economy was being subsidized by hand outs from it. If anything one could argue long term it will better the World economy to go back to not relying on said singular country now by choice in case anything ever ruined said country's economy in the future.
@sportymariosonicmixx Your '''fix''' is literally just 'put them in cars to make it fair' but far worse in every way, because now instead of going fast in cars on an equal playing field, anyone faster than Big the Cat has to be slowed to a crawl. It's literally the same solution but more dumb and needlessly complicated in every way. You know, like Sonic Labyrinth where Robotnik sneaks the Slow Down Boots on Sonic, and everyone hated it? So not only is your idea bad, but it's unoriginal - and you've already glazed ourself for it no less.
I can't help but be annoyed at the Comments acting like CrossWorlds was a Switch-exclusive directly competing with Mario Kart World and Kirby Air Riders. As opposed to, you know, reality, where it was a Multiplatform Release on PlayStation, Xbox, & PC where those games don't exist and Kart Racers are scarce. If anything it shows that Mario Kart is more of an exception to the rule like Pokemon or Call of Duty.
@LazyDaisy I'd imagine the reason for that is it's easier both to make and market a Kart Racer than try and make a Racing Platformer hybrid like Sonic R. Especially with how fast Sonic moves now versus back then, at that point you're just making a regular Sonic game but more prone to screw ups. The Extreme Gear from Riders is also in CrossWorlds and play pretty differently from the regular Karts.
@waluigilives Characters like Sonic and Shadow are in cars because, if they weren't, there'd be no point in picking anyone else because they'd always win. It's really, REALLY simple.
Sad to hear, as it hooked me until Mario Kart World. The 'worst' maps are just okay, the Rivals exchanges for Grand Prix Mode and dialogue overall is really fun with lots of callbacks, the gameplay is amazing overall, the online and Events are fun. My only complaint is don't include guest characters if you're not gonna voice them - I'd rather have gotten more Sonic characters if that was the case.
Haven't been nearly as invested in my Switch 1/2 since I gave up on Pokemon. I'm voting Pokopia but probably won't get it just because I doubt it'll be better than ACNH, and I don't see a point in playing 2 similar games at once. Unless there's some wild announcements I'll just be using my Switch 2 to whittle away at Switch 1 games.
@AussieMcBucket Some games like Pokemon never go on sale too, and older games that aren't as popular might have multiple years between their sales, if they ever go on sale again at all. But unless you get/want a lot of stuff Day 1, yeah, you save more long term in most cases.
I'll pick it up on a really good sale like any Nintendo game, but as much as I see the appeal, it doesn't appeal to me specifically. The original made me think of those Cube World toys from the 2000's where you'd connect them together and they'd interact in different ways on their own, which is neat, but made me want to re-buy the toys more than play Tomodachi Life (which I did give a chance on 3DS).
@Joeynator3000 It's pretty niche in all fairness. One of those games where it's definitely not for everyone, but the handful of people who enjoy it really love it. I'd say Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment and Kirby Air Riders fall into that camp too, that doesn't mean they're bad games.
@JaxonH It's not a Switch 2 Compatibility thing, the port is based on the 3DS port that didn't have Co-op. In the original Wii release, when one player jumped on an enemy, there was a delay between the jump and its death so the other player could also bounce off them, and there's a lot of jumps that need that mechanic that's absent in Returns HD. I'm just confused on how and what Nintendo decides gets fixed and what doesn't.
The Midna & Wolf Link amiibo was the best and ideal balance of things. It had a lot of specific and good unlocks, along with the generic ones every amiibo has, but none of them felt like you were missing out or being forced to pay extra for features. Amiibo should be made with many more than 1 game in mind, whether its for pre-existing games or ones to come. But you see so many now where they exist for a singular reason and nothing else is planned for them, which is not a great combo with the price bumps.
@Sirko I'd guess most people are (correctly) assuming the score is for the $5 update, not the game itself. They even have the original Review for the actual New Horizons full game linked in the article.
I find it so bizarre what Nintendo will and won't fix and address. They can make time so that BDSP work, but they can't take time for one patch for DKC Returns HD so that the Co-op is functional.
@87th This. The Switch 1's Year 1 Lineup was not great either. The big launch title was a Wii U port, and Splatoon 2 was not breaking any ground as a sequel and felt like they just wanted Splatoon on the new console ASAP.
Until more games are made with the Switch 2 in mind, this should've been expected after the initial hype. The choices for Year 1 games were also not gonna push units. Minus Mario Kart World, which would've been a good choice if not super underbaked, a lot of the titles leaned more towards the niche side of things. Kirby Air Riders, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Donkey Kong Bananza - these are good games and things people wanted, but they're not what the average Switch owner is gonna buy to upgrade. The Switch 2 Editions are also not great, $10 ones like BOTW & TOTK didn't add virtually anything and should've been free, and the $20 Jamboree and Forgotten Land ones were not worth the price.
I'm sure there's a lot of stuff people wanted for a Mario Wonder Switch 2 Edition, and more Multiplayer stuff was not anywhere on the first half of that list. Though unlike the Jamboree one at least it (probably) won't need multiple pieces of new equipment to use.
@Sindayl Do you have CrossPlay off? Virtually everyone plays with it on since it's the default, and it's been a known thing that so few people play with it off that people use it to purposefully get Bot Lobbies to increase their Rank easily.
@Kingy There's a lot of turns where taking your foot of the gas is necessary even on lower speeds compared to Mario Kart. Aside from that, even without learning shortcuts or the best paths, just learning the tracks, items, & gadgets is enough.
Maybe since Pikmin 3 was for Wii U where you could use the Wiimote to point 'n aim, it was easier/faster to add mouse controls than 4 since it had something similar already?
Didn't get to use my Switch 2 for the first day/24 hours when I got it because it took THAT long to re-download all my games, that's the first thing I had to do lol
@electrolite77 "... but I treat them same as any other similar company." Well clearly you don't because every similar company puts their games on better and more frequent sales than Nintendo.
Missed a day this year, because Nintendo's online storefront always gives me an error at checkout for the eshop on desktop and I forgot to claim it on my Switch 2.
@Serpenterror The question is how many of those are by the same companies? The only reason the Cowabunga Collection and MvC Collection happened were because all those games were made/owned by the same companies.
Getting a third Marvel Ultimate Alliance game but it being a Switch-exclusive was a true Monkey's Paw Wish. That's not even to say that made it bad, just that it really limited things. I'm still waiting for the real Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 that follows up on the plot for the first game.
At least they're actually doing a few balance patches and bug fixes, unlike DKC Returns HD, where the Co-op will forever remain broken because it's a soulless one 'n done.
@ThatOneLevel Nooooo, they totally needed an extra month for this! (But also don't ask why they couldn't just delay the game a month if it wasn't cut content.)
@PKDuckman It'll never happen. Heck, the only reason it happened back then is because Microsoft though 343 would do better with Halo. They'll likely remake at least the Bungie games in Unreal 5 like Campaign Evolved, but we're not getting anything new from the MCC.
Still wild to me there's only been 50 of these after all these years. There's so many First-Party Nintendo games and Switch-exclusives that could've gotten one and just never did.
I think Transformers could have a lot of untapped potential for a Beat 'Em Up with all the gimmicks you could do, and it would be another banger choice for old school nostalgia. Though honestly I'd be down for the same game idea but DC Comics.
This Remaster was almost entirely done with AI. I don't mind it being used, but it doing the majority of the work, and the work not being very good? I'll pass until it's 5 bucks like the GOTY Edition on Steam.
No Switch 2 exclusive stuff, but I've gotten 5 First-Party Nintendo games for half off from Target, and 3 of them in Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, LoZ Echoes of Wisdom, & Princess Peach Showtime weren't ones with prices Nintendo had set.
