I've been feeling the Switch needs a tech upgrade for a while. My PC can run games at 144hz in 1440p and they look so much better than what the Switch can do...
But then I play a few hours of Tears of the Kingdom and for some reason that doesn't matter at all anymore.
I got Spirit of Justice to play on 3DS later, but didn't find anything new on Wii U to pick up. Would have appreciated some more sales so the shop could have gone out with a bang instead of just disappearing
Condolences to Jason's friends and family Sounds like he was a real wonderful person and team member. I worked in game QA for several years and used to play a lot of Terraria with my friends and co-workers after hours.
I'm also confused. Feels like wave 1 should have been a bonus item that you get on purchase maybe? Also I don't like how you get a bunch of cash and boosts for buying the expansion pass. I tend to avoid that sorta pay to progress/win style crap.
This reminds me of the Fi fonts in the Skyward Sword remaster. Like they weren't scaled up to the right size. (Although I swear I'm the only person on the planet that noticed it.)
@Poodlestargenerica oh yeah I get what you mean. I'll also be getting this one on release day, whatever the cost! Hoping they'll accept vouchers for it though.
@Poodlestargenerica I'm not sure if it's bad math necessarily. When I was a kid a chocolate bar probably cost 90 cents, now they're usually over 2 dollars. The fact that the price of a new video game is usually less than it was back in the 90's is kinda crazy.
Having said that, I still can't usually bring myself to buy "premium" games brand new these days, unless it's something really special, because of the cost. Especially since there are so many great indie games that are often even more enjoyable for so much less.
@GameAndLuke Yeah but by the time those formats are retired they've likely already republished everything on the new format. They're not just gonna give up on potential sales.
Like say someone loves the new Fire Emblem and wants to go play the back catalog, starting with the 3DS. There are like, 5 games there they could either purchase directly from Nintendo in digital format, or go to the used market and pay way more, where Nintendo gets $0, or they can go the /other/ route where no one gets anything.
Why do video game companies have to retire their old content? Imagine if the movie industry was like "we're just gonna stop selling all these old movies, you can watch new movies from now on".
I'm sure there's a way they can keep selling digital games for 3DS and Wii U on the web version of the store. What's the harm? Someone might pick up a used 3DS and wanna load it up with digital content instead of trying to pay a premium for out of print carts.
I thought about it while the article was loading and had the same numbers! Persona 4 is just about perfect, but the dungeons can definitely become repetitive. Persona 5 got that one right. And then not being able to walk around outside of dungeons in P3 Portable brought that one down for me, but still a great game overall. (If only they'd have done a "Golden" version of Persona 3 FES instead.)
I played this on PC and can confirm it's a ton of fun. I usually find shmups too hard, but this one has a great difficulty level and lots of cool upgrade options. Also the pixely 3d art style looks fantastic.
I'm not sure Nintendo would wanna get a big name to play Mario, and then ask them to sound nothing like themself. I think the Mario voice sounds great.
Also Chris Pratt was awesome in the Lego movie and I'm not sure I even realized it was him until afterwards.
Still the only (legitimate) way to play Xenoblade Chronicles X, one of my favourite games! I definitely wasn't first in line to get a Wii U, but once I had one it definitely turned out to be a worthy gaming system. Nintendoland, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Maker, XCX, Zelda: BOTW, and so many other great games!
I kinda wish a 3rd party would produce a new gamepad for it though, that is less clunky and has a nicer quality screen.
I haven't played Animal Crossing in so long, but what I would really love is some kind of buildings update, that adds a couple of new facilities. Or even another upgrade to Nook's store. Maybe toss an observatory in there or something.
I'm just ignoring the entire rewards and purchasing system for now. I've never understood the player appeal of a "premium battle pass", it's just a tool to abuse people's OCD to "maximize player engagement" at all times. I like to be able to take a break from a game and not feel anxiety.
The game Tombs & Treasure on NES always creeped me out as a kid, but I still loved it. Other than that, the original Splatterhouse on TG16 definitely gave me a few nightmares.
All I really played in Overwatch was Mystery Heros, and this puts more maps and characters into that mix, so I'm mostly content.
Looking at the challenges and battle pass I get the feeling I won't be unlocking many, if any, new cosmetics for the amount of time I play though, which is kind of a bummer.
Such a fun game! I really liked the characters and little side stories. Hope they take this series onto another console somehow. Guess I'll download it again and give it another try before it ends
I haven't had much interest in the side scrolling Mario games lately, mainly cause the art style is pretty uninspired. Something like this would be amazing though!
I'm hoping for a really awesome single player story mode. What they did with the Splatoon 2 expansion showed they've got interest in expanding the world. Gotta wait and see I guess.

Re: Poll: Would You Pay $70 For The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?
I remember paying $99.99 CAD for Chrono Trigger in 1995. Apparently that's about $172 CAD today due to inflation, or $128 USD. No regrets though!
