@Zeebor15 That’s interesting. It’s not so much that I don’t trust Atari. It’s that I think a narrative heavy JRPG like Child of Light would not be a good fit for them.
@PeterTomlan86 Japan makes better movies than Hollywood so it does suck. Instead they’d prefer to get the Maze Runner director to direct Zelda. At least they should do collaborations.
@MSaturn Not to mention, Team Cherry already has had a ton of organic advertising for Silksong, so I think they may not need to spend much on advertising.
@eldersnake Which other games have been rough? This is the only one I know about so far and it hasn't released yet. Donkey Kong may have had some framedrops, but it wasn't really "rough".
@rushiosan Because optimization in general is hard. You try to improve one thing, and it might cause something else to become worse for instance.
This is especially true if the core software design is not sufficiently modular. You'll have a hard time improving the performance/fidelity. I'm guessing FromSoftware's game engine has serious design flaws.
@Krull I found that weird as well, but they wouldn't make this a Black Friday game if they were sending it out to fail. Plus, I wasn't sure what to expect, but from what I've seen so far, it looks pretty awesome. Also, the next big first-party game is technically Pokemon, albeit cross-generational.
@Nintoz Yeah. I’m wondering that, too. Keep in mind though that MP4 is also a Switch 1 title and Pokemon is the only other big Switch 1 game coming. My guess is MP4 and Hyrule Warriors come in October. If Super Mario Allstars 2 or 3D Allstars 2 comes, that’ll be in September.
@Coffee-Waffle The problem is that what you like is more niche and that strategy was bringing financial trouble to Capcom. I imagine Capcom wants to satisfy the hardcore fans as well and is trying to strike a balance.
But Capcom is far more successful now than it was before Resident Evil 2 Remake and World.
I'm a bit surprised that Nintendo proper developed it. It lacks Nintendo charm and polish. Even compared to their budget titles before like Game Builder Garage or Star Fox Guard, this really just lacks something.
I'm guessing they originally planned more for this, but then just decided to package it up and release it as-is.
@FX102A A big part of the problem is Nintendo. They likely don’t want to offer 32gb and 16gb game cards to save on cost.
It would be hard for Square to justify going the 64 gb route with a game like Octopath. For large games though, I can blame it more on the 3rd party publisher
@IronMan30 The core gameplay on the first one was good but it seems they didn’t have the budget to really build up the world and the storyline. Maybe with the sequel they’ve been able to
I don’t have much experience with this generation of D&D games, though have always been curious. I played the games in the early to mid 90s a bit, though. Probably my favorite was Fantasy Empires
@Wisps A lot of S1 games play significantly better on the S2. You just won’t have some of the upgrades that the S2 version has. But for a game like this, I probably wouldn’t care. They’re gonna want to treat S1 owners well too because there are far more S1 owners in Japan than S2 owners.
@IronMan30 NVidia's CEO is an engineer so not your typical corporate type. Granted not all engineer CEOs are genuine, but a lot like him (and Iwata) are.
@StyrofoamCup SE should be blamed. They know Forever has a bad reputation for quality and went with them anyway. Likely because they are cheap. I am still surprised Nintendo invested in them despite the low quality. There are much better port/remaster studios.
@BoomingEchoes I had the opportunity to go the home of a CEO of a major corporation in Japan for dinner before and it was a bit surprising. It was just a middle-class home. He bought the home probably in his early 30s and just stayed there. That would be unthinkable in the US. But things work differently in Japan, and you have to view everything through a different lens. Though those in IT like Masayoshi Son tend to be more like the type of CEO you'd see in the US.
@Arawn93 it depends where you live. If you are in Montana you can live in a castle with 6 figures but if you are in Silicon Valley, you’ll be in a roach filled apartment
@JohnnyMind Nintendo is a Japanese company and it’s not a good look in Japan for a CEO to make so much more than employees. And Nintendo’s CEO fairs better than a lot in Japan relative to the median employee wage. For all the flack Japan gets in regard to working long hours, employers tend to have much more regard for employees than in the US.
@axelhander I'm old enough to remember all the really bad CG art that people tried to peddle in the late 90s and early 2000s. The world was not as globalized back then so it wasn't quite what it is now, but eventually people tired of the novelty and quality won out.
@BlaizeV Japan has a large population but not the percentage of young people is low and the percentage of old people is quite high. That’s kinda sucking the life out of the domestic market.
@LikelySatan Yeah. I forgot about the movie. I don't know if I want the movie to connect to the game. Maybe I'll change my mind after seeing the movie, though.
@Dhaladog Nintendo tends to release one Zelda game a year. This year it is Hyrule Warriors. I’d guess next year will be a remake of a 3D title, though I really have no idea.
@Strumpan @JokerCK He said the Series S, not the PS5.
Even just in terms of the raw numbers, it is much more powerful than the PS4, and close to the PS4 Pro. But that doesn't take into account being able to use DLSS and having better hardware, which gives it an even greater edge and puts it closer to the Series S, and above the PS4 Pro.
@Paraka Okay. The WiiU was actually backwards compatible with the digital library for the Wii, though. But the WiiU backward compatibility functionality sucked to use because you had to restart the system and go into "Wii mode".
@Johnny44 I don’t know about other countries but here in Japan a lot of people weren’t able to but a Switch 2 that wanted one. It’s probably 75% or so that couldn’t get one
ARMS was great. But I think to really get big as a fighting game these days it needed more frills. The core experience was really solid. Also, it was not as addictive as Splatoon so that maybe hurt it. I hope Nintendo gets back to developing new IPs.
I feel like between 2015 and 2019 Nintendo was doing more innovative stuff than now.
@skycargav2000 In terms of raw specs it looks comparable to the PS4 Pro but its architecture is more modern which improves its efficiency and use of those TFlops. Also, it supports DLSS which also helps it do a lot more with less.
So it looks actually better than the PS4 Pro.
It looks like Digital Foundry was way off in their original assessments. But that was obvious from the reveal even though they didn't want to admit it.
@riggah Or more recently similar to the 3ds. Nintendo has offered upgraded experiences quite a bit actually. Their more innovative experiences have been hit and miss. The WiiU and Virtual Boy especially. I did expect Nintendo to lose some creativity when they selected their current CEO, though.
@ChakraStomps I don't see good evidence that building up manufacturing is an ends. It could be a means, though.
The main pattern I've seen throughout the last couple months has been subordination. Subordinating congress. Subordinating the bureaucracies. Now targeting the press and lawyers.
The tariffs provide Trump with another tool for subordination. Through them, it seems he aims to subordinate foreign nations, domestic corporations and possibly states.
It all looks like a self-coup (authoritarian takeover).
@Uncle_Franklin Negotiations are the aim. Trump wants to subordinate the allies and kill the current economic order of free or nearly free trade. That is from Oren Cass. It’s likely to fail because no country is going to trust the US and he’s started economic warfare on all countries around the world at once. But the premise is bs anyhow. The US has not been ripped off.
@Galaxy2IsTheGOAT It will get cheaper and easier with AI to max out specs for graphics. But the differentiating factor in future games will be in-game AI not the quality of the graphics as much.

Re: Mini Review: The Exit 8 - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Unnerving Horror Loop Is Worth The Budget Price
Saw the movie. It’s quite impressive how they turned this game, which doesn’t have much of a story into a really well-thought-out horror film.

Re: Atari Acquires IP Rights To Five Ubisoft Games, Including 2011's 'Child Of Eden'
Grow Home was pretty fun. I wish someone would acquire Child of Light. Though not Atari.
Re: "We Are Not Delaying" - Dark Deity 2 Dev Stands Firm Against Silksong
Hollow Knight is great in terms of art direction, but in terms of gameplay, there is much better in Metroidvania genre.

Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of Kirby Air Riders Are In
@carlos82 This seems closer to Road Rash than Mario Kart to me. It appears it has a much stronger emphasis on combat than Mario Kart

Capcom did a great job of rebuilding. I hope they are successful now at expanding the IPs they release.

Re: Nintendo Indie World Showcase August 2025 - Every Announcement, Game Reveal & Trailer
The highlight for me was Moji Yugi. A game that only uses kanji, hiragana and katakana for graphics.
Anyone studying Japanese might want to give it a try
Re: Feature: What We Expect From Nintendo For Super Mario Bros.' 40th Anniversary
The anniversary is for Super Mario.
So it will be a Super Mario game. The 25th had Galaxy and All Stars, 30th had Mario Maker. And 40th, 3d All Stars.
My money is on Mario Maker 3

Re: Reaction: Switch 2 Needed A Partner Showcase With Pep; This Wasn't It
I thought it was a good Direct. There were a lot of announcements. But based on the comments, it was not the Direct that people need right now.
But there will more than likely be another Direct in September, less than 2 months away.
Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase Announced For Today, 31st July 2025
@DKG-85 Ninja Gaiden would be great. I hope we see some announcements for Capcom games like Pragmata and Onimusha, too.
@KidRyan Those are all at least partially funded by Nintendo so I don’t think we’ll see them.

@MeatSauce Thanks for the info. Sounds like a great time. I'll probably pick it up.

@MeatSauce I haven’t played a wrestling game since the PS2 era. What exactly do you like about this one? How microtransaction-ridden is it?

Since Splatoon, Nintendo has taken the path of gradually adding content. But still in comparison, MKW has quite a bit.
Re: Fans Reckon Nintendo Has "Killed" Mario Kart World With Its Latest Update
@Paper_Yoshi I like the intermission races too. I imagine most people really don't care and just want to play something fun.
But this particular article is written for people to vent, and a lot of gamers struggle with change.

Re: A24 Bringing Elden Ring To The Big Screen With Ex-Machina Director
@rjejr I'd prefer someone like Keishi Ohtomo to direct it. I can't think of a Western director who'd do it justice now other than perhaps Villeneuve.
Garland's best screenplay so far was by far Never Let Me Go, but that was an adaptation of a Kazuo Ishiguro novel so probably doesn't count.
Re: Nintendo Predicted To Become "Primary Partner For Third-Party Game Publishers"
I think advanced AI will be the next "leap" rather than graphics, since graphical differences are producing diminishing returns.
This may put Nintendo out of the game for truly "next gen" titles.

Re: Val Kilmer, Acting Legend And One-Time Video Game Voice Artist, Has Died
He was a great actor and probably was the perfect fit for Batman. My personal favorite of his was Spartan.
Unfortunately, his apparent difficult personality lead to fewer roles for him than he should have had.
